Let me potentially save you a headache: currently this store closes at 8, not 9, due to special "Winter hours." Yes, even though it's not posted anywhere online. (The website says 9.) Yes, even though it's technically Spring now. Yes, even though that's really annoying when you make plans to meet someone there at 8 and you get there at 8:05 and the place is locked down. Ask me how I know. But: the barista took pity on our plight and let us stick around and drink tea while he cleaned up. Diva on Greenwood was my first taste of espresso in Seattle. My mission is to try as many coffee joints as I can, and this place currently tops the list for ambiance, goodies and friendly staff. My roommate took me here to chat about house stuff while we sipped. I was lame and got an iced drink (which according to a friend is committing espresso suicide and apparently I should be tried in the Barista court of law), but I am happy to say I have since returned and purchased many a latte. A tall mocha set me back $4.88. The coffee was good, better than what I normally expect when trying a place for the first time. What I do expect, though, is a friendly, welcoming environment from the customer facing staff. I found this to be a bit lacking on this visit. Today was first time in, although I've driven by Diva Espresso the last 5 years. The barista was very nice as I stared at all the pastries in the case. I used to frequent Diva Espresso when I worked at a school around the corner. The staff there is very good to teachers (once a month they have Teacher Appreciation Day where you can get a free drip coffee and half off a pastry). Generally, coffee shop mochas give me a headache (not joking) but Diva's is the ONLY place I have found in Western Washington that does not have this effect on me. I don't know what kind of chocolate they use but it works. During spring and summer months I would recommend sitting outside either at the tables facing Greenwood Ave or on the back patio. My only complaint about is the small size of the coffee shop. There are not very many tables and often times people stay for a long time with their work and computers. But if you don't mind sharing a table then this shouldn't be a problem! read more

Given the name Diva, I thought it would be fitting to list my likes and dislikes for this coffee house.. Likes: 1) There's a parking lot. 2) People watching on Greenwood Ave. Dislikes: 1) Three baristas behind the counter. I was the only customer, but it took close to 15 minutes for me to leave with coffee in hand. Most of that time was spent waiting to be acknowledged by the chatty workers. All three were engrossed in a conversation about cheap wine and parties with someone who came in to visit them. Enjoy your work, but please don't forget about your paying customers. 2) I thought I ordered a vanilla latte. Not a tall cup of syrup with a dash of coffee. 3) No wi-fi. I live close to the Greenwood location and visit the Diva regularly. Great coffee and service, yet I find their lack of compliance with labor laws and treatment of their staff troubling. What a cool cute little coffee spot! The layout and decor is quirky and neat and overall this joint just feels welcoming. They have a 'feature your pet' board up where customers can post photos of their pets (mostly dogs) and they also had, what appeared to be, children's colorings on a different wall. It just added to the "community" feeling of this Diva. There was also your typical art and such displayed on walls and filling in corners. Plenty of seating and their free WIFI password is prominently displayed on a placard so there's no Sherlock Holmes routine involved when you try to hop onto the interwebs. I had my usual tasty Diva Americano with an extra shot. I want to taste the angst in every sip! It also doesn't hurt that this location is adjacent to Valentine's so I can stop in before a haircut. Really the only weird thing for me was the brorista wasn't quite sure about me. Maybe I looked like a convict with my hoodie up but it was raining and cold outside. My friggin' ears were about to fall off like meaty earcicles. Next time I'll come in wearing helium filled balloon animals and flowers with LED lights. This way they'll know I'm a friendly dude... or extra creepy. Greenwood Diva Espresso is a great spot for a quick cup of Joe or a spot to relax and sip your latte. I'm a fan! read more

I like going to Diva Espresso for a tea. I go there regularly either to meet with someone or to work on my computer for an hour or so. It is a cozy and inviting coffee shop and it has free wifi. The staff is always friendly. They have a small parking lot, though there's plenty of street parking in the area. The perfect spot for a break and a warm beverage! read more

As I drove towards Greenlake, I decided a coffee would be tasty and give me some pep, since I was a tired girly this morning. Found parking conveniently in the lot, and stepped in. Same time as an obvious regular. I ordered my iced latte and a new staff member came up to ring me up and asked the barista what she was making, an iced latte. "Really? Iced? Really, an iced latte?" Hell, maybe this was an inside joke, but I felt like I had to say something, so I did. "Yes, I like iced lattes" I ordered a slice of bread which was dry, and soon enough was cast aside so they could fawn over a regular. Arrived around 9am on Sunday morning to get a drip coffee and I was surprised to find a line. I was irritated and glad at the same time (it must be good, but I was in a rush). It only took a few minutes to get through the line...the guy in front of me ordered a latte which had pretty latte art on top--I suddenly wanted a latte just so I could look at my coffee in admiration, but I was in a rush and ordered the drip. It was strong, and really, really good. In fact, it was the best tasting drip coffee I've had since moving to Seattle. The "Diva" title is well deserved! read more

Received really terrible service here. When my friend and I walked in, there were two men at the counter. We waited, then moved out of the way for a man who came in after us. After a little while, a woman and two children came in. The barista skipped us in the line (we had been the only people besides the two she was already helping). When the man, who had come in after wardsrealized this, he turned to us and apologized. The barista then informed us (in a very sarcastic tone) that we needed to," wait UNDER the order sign". Now, I live in the neighborhood and have been in before (2x prior this week, same barista) and had NEVER been informed. I guess she was trying to make an example of us (?). She was very rude. Also, after we got our coffee she helped the next (and only other party) FROM THE COUNTER. Why were we the only ones informed of this order line? Why did she stare at us and not inform us while she was helping the only other party?? This put me and my friend in a very uncomfortable situation as we are both minorities and everyone else was Caucasian. It was awkward to be treated like that while no one else was. The barista knew I was upset and offered me the office's number which, I called and left a message. I did receive a call from the GM later the next day saying that the barista had called THE OWNERS and told them she informed everyone to wait under the sign......um...no, she did not and obviously she was worried about getting into trouble.... With all the coffee shops in Seattle, please do not support this Diva Espresso location. No customer should ever be treated in this manner. The sad thing is that if the barista had just apologized for skipping us (she didn't) or informing ALL of us (not just the brown ones) about the order area, it could have been avoided. read more

The menu isn't cluttered with too many choices, and the seating areas aren't so crowded that your chair is resting against someone else's. The coffee is behind you" Me: hand over credit card, go get coffee, coffee container is empty, so I bring it over to the lady behind the counter. "There's no coffee" Lady behind counter "Sorry"...goes on with conversation with other barista. Me: Walk over and sit down. As I wait for coffee that I just assume is going to be made, since the lady behind the counter said nothing else, I start my computer, and connect to internet. Need passcode. Me: "Scuse me, what's the internet passcode?" Barista from behind counter: "It's on the sign right in front of you, right there" as the points to the wall to my left. Me: Thought appears "These people seem kind of rude". Me: Go back, enter passcode, wait 2 minutes, internet doesn't work. Try again, disconnect, connect, type passcode, internet doesn't work. Me: "The internet isn't working." Barista from behind the counter: Blabbing with the other lady, stops, looks at me and says nothing. Lady behind counter: Makes no eye contact, keeps looking at a receipt, says "I'll restart it" Me: "You know what, I think I'll leave" Me: Pack up and walk out as they stare at me, probably thinking I'm making a big deal of the shit service their providing. Forget the refund for an overpriced cup of coffee that wasn't even brewed in a coffee shop! Um, pass on this spot from here on out, thanks to the two bitchy baristas. read more

Rather than go to Greenwood Chocolati last week, I went to Diva - - and I'm glad I did! Diva has friendly and efficient staff, bright and sunny rooms, tasty chocolate milk and quality coffee at reasonable prices (and quite a large range of choices, too), and no violent images on the walls. It's the anti-chocolati! I never liked Chocolati's dark rooms, overpriced and sludgy drinks chocolate (was it chocolate? or mud?) but it was near my daughter's class, we had coupons, all the other reasons that make the mediocre tolerable. Then came the day that I looked up and saw a picture of blood-stained people holding meat cleavers, knives, swords - - really, doesn't anyone at Greenwood Chocolati have any decency or common sense? They're inviting children in with a kids menu, for heaven's sake, but I wouldn't wish a picture like that on my worst enemy, let alone my child. So I was very surprised to discover that right across the street was Diva - - warm, friendly Diva! Even the customers smile and talk to each other - - something that doesn't happen at Chocolati. The staff actually tries to make a drink to order the way the customer wants and doesn't try to arm-twist you into buying more food. Again, all anti-Chocolati, but who cares about that dive? He got my drink wrong and then blames me for his mistake! He was super defensive when I told him of the mistake. He didn't correct my drink either after I told him about it so I just left!! I'm so ashamed. I've lived within walking distance of Diva for a year now and just started frequenting this shop. The coffee is GREAT; they offer almond milk and always manage to make the coffee taste toasty but not burned. The specialty drinks that I've tried are indulgent and delicious. I also think the staff is very friendly. I have not had a lot of Diva pastries, but I've taken to dreaming about their cookies at night. The interior does get busy, but it's so cute and cozy. I go to cafes for the atmosphere and the baked goods instead of coffee (I'm a tea drinker). The banana nut bread here is supurb and its not too sweet like most, just right. There's also good zuchini bread and muffins without a huge amount of crystalized sugar on top. Sometimes I luck out and they have day old or end of day things and they are half-price...however going late they might be out of something so that's very risky! read more

This place continues to disappoint. The ONLY reason I continue to go it because it is kitty corner to my daughter's dance studio. The coffee is just OK. Today I was shocked when the two baristas began complaining about their lack of tips right in front of costumers. Uh....pretty sure this attitude is not helping your situation. Possibly the best espresso I've had to date. I found out one of the reasons today when I went in for an espresso....ristretto shots! Yes! I wanted to know the secret and now I understand why each time my shots of espresso are dreamy, sweet, plenty of crema sans bitterness....lovely. The service was great and we had our bevies within 3 minutes of ordering. Great place for home made delicious cookies, bars, biscotti and pastries. The location is chill too. read more
