Wow, finding parking in this area is not easy. On my mission to try every boba place in the city, I was attracted to this one because of the thai green milk tea. I've only seen this in a couple other locations. Thai green milk tea has a grassy, floral tea taste that reminds me a bit of pandan. I came across them via Instagram and saw that they were offering the Katsu sandos (a sandwich that has been on my radar for a while now and trending!). The menu is pretty simple and not overwhelming with multiple drink options (not that I don't like that, but I can be indecisive when it comes to ordering). The use natural and real fresh fruit in their drinks, which is what I'm trying to go for nowadays. That clean and anti-artificial ingredient life! They have a small matcha drink line and snacks such as spam musubi, takoyaki and onigiri. I've tried their watermelon jasmine tea and the Sunset District tea (strawberry, mango puree in JT) and I gotta say their teas are no joke. It's like punch you in the face TEA. Strong AF. But the fruit is still notable in the drink. They're refreshing and will keep you alert. The Katsu sandwich was tasty and filling. The chicken was juicy and not dry. I tried their salmon onigiri and was a bit underwhelmed. It was good, however, it was spicy af and it wasn't made with the right kind of rice. When I bit into it, it crumbled and fell apart like a sand castle. Overall, I'll come back for the teas, they have such unique combinations and maybe try more snacks in the future. They recently remodeled the shop and it's super cute and modern now. They server is super sweet and nice and the order was fast. Love that they are also Asian and women owned business. "Picnic for two" (premium items with extra charge): 5/5 - came with Katsu Sando, popcorn Chicken and potato Croquette with boba milk tea and mango green tea. We order it for an afternoon snack, so it's enough for 2. If we get it for lunch, we might need to order more. All the items are delicious. I think District tea has to be one of my favorite boba shops in San Francisco. I've visited a few times and their quality has consistently been amazing. Their service is also outstanding as well. In my opinion, District Tea is the best boba tea shop in the Bay Area. I don't profess to be a boba aficionado, but they have the most fragrant and flavourful teas -- period. Even as their doors are shut due to Covid-19, my family continued to support District Tea as much as possible. In return, they supplied the goods to my family's boba addictions. Win-Win! We were able pre-order 1/2 gallon drinks for pickup during the shutdown. Not many businesses were able to continue serving their community, all the while, planning for an eventual reopening. They are now open utilizing a seemless, contactless purchase experience. I highly recommend the following drinks - HK milk tea, jasmine oatmilk tea, and the watermelon matcha fresca. We ordered the picnic bundle 45 minutes ahead of time online and the pick-up went smoothly! Parking can be hard to find so I would suggest leaving some time for that. I ordered the hojicha latte and the mung bean latte. The hojicha had a strong tea flavor which was good. I ordered "easy sweet" and it tasted like there wasnt any sugar in it - I kind of questioned if they put any sweetener. Lots of caffeine in the hojicha though because I was super amps after drinking it. During COVID-19, District Tea is set up for in-person orders, pickup, or delivery. They closed off the inside, so you order at their door. So many good milk tea places have been popping up in San Francisco steadily, a couple of them in the Mission district, which is a tedious drive for me. Luckily, I saw that they were doing a BOGO promotion for their one-year birthday in mid-July. We got: Thai Green Milk Tea (large, honey boba, Oatly oat milk, half sweetness, easy ice) - Super bold, phewee! Love the bold and bitterness. If any bit of bold and bitter teas deter you, this isn't for the faint of heart. I didn't taste much sweetness, so I'd up the sweetness if you're not the tea version of a black coffee drinker. Strong floral taste with earthy matcha paired well with the creamy oat milk. Assam (Black) Milk Tea (large, honey boba, organic 2% milk, normal sweetness, easy ice) - I can't put my finger on it, but there was something off about this milk tea. I think they don't put enough milk in it, or the milk doesn't make it taste as creamy as typical milk teas. This is my boyfriend's usual order, and he couldn't drink more than a sip of it. I can't drink things at full sweetness anymore since I'm a bitter gal, so this at normal sweetness just tasted like maple syrup mixed with water to me. I did taste a strong black tea, though. Because this was too sweet, I just mixed it with the bold thai green milk tea to create a nice middle ground. Watermelon Matcha (agar boba, half sweetness, easy ice) - The agar is smaller (and thus more manageable), softer, jelly-like, and more pliable than normal. This was almost my favorite drink, but my boyfriend drank most of the watermelon puree, leaving me with a bunch of bold matcha with subtle watermeon... You need to mix this to evenly distribute the bold matcha with sweet watermelon! I love the strong watermelon taste, as places generally have watered down watermelon. This is not the case for District Tea. Half sweetness was just perfect, as the watermelon puree is sweet itself. Mango Coconut (honey boba, half sweetness) - I'm a minority, but I don't like mango sago or mango milk drinks as much as the general population. I really liked this drink, though. I was expecting the mango freeze to be overly iced, but I think it slushed quite nicely and blended perfectly with the coconut milk. I love the thick fruit chunks, although at times, the fruit chunks and boba made it tough to suck through the straw. This was my favorite drink of them all, and would also taste good at a lower sweetness. Popcorn Chicken - Asked for it to be spicy, and they conveniently added their powders for spice on the side! It was a standard popcorn chicken chili powder and white pepper powder. I liked having the option to mix the flavor in myself. I liked the quantity for $6.50, and it was still a bit crispy even after the twenty minute transport. They seemed to forget the basil in mine. Korean Corn Dog (sausage + cheese, sausage + cheese and sugar) - Oof, when you ask for sugar, they definitely coat that thing in a bunch of sugar crystals! I'm still in a sugar rush while writing this. The sausage + cheese filling is made with a large block of slightly stringy cheese on top, and a tiny, crunchy kurobuta sausage half on the bottom. I liked the crunch factor, and wish there was more sausage, but it's still not bad for $6. Mix Onigiri - Mashed salmon or tuna mixed with mayo in a riceball. I thought they were seasoned and mashed well. Mine seemed to be missing furikake and brown sauce. They were still tasty, though. Rice portion was large and fell apart easy, so can get messy. District Tea's boba consistency is really good; it has perfect chew and squish. However, some were clumped together and didn't have much of a honey taste, but that's fine. I'm constantly on the hunt for cafes that offer iced matcha lattes with oat milk at a reasonable price. - I ordered a large iced matcha latte with oat milk with light ice and easy sweetness on their sweetness spectrum. Somehow along the lines, the woman thought I ordered a mango matcha latte, but I corrected her which I didn't mind. The drink took around 5-10 minutes to make, and I saw that a lot of customers who strolled in were past customers or friends with the owner. The drink first tasted refreshing and I thoroughly had to mix the oat milk and matcha together. I would recommend ordering no sugar since the oat milk compensates for it in taste. When I got to the bottom of the drink, I noticed that there were bits of matcha powder, which either means the quality isn't there or it wasn't whisked enough. I know, I know... There's Boba Guys and Brew Cha nearby but District Tea has a delicious snack menu. The other two don't. Popcorn chicken. Takoyaki. Spam musubi. Sesame Balls. And, more... Plus, this is a family-owned business from SF natives. As an SF native myself, I love to support the unicorns. In addition to milk and fruit teas, District Tea has drinks as a nod to The Mission like Mangonada and Watermelonada. All organic ingredients and fruits are used with three milk options: 2% milk, oat milk (+ 50 cents), and soy milk and three sweetness options: normal sweet, easy sweet, and no sweet. Toppings (50 cents): honey boba, grass jelly, lychee jelly, and agar boba (75 cents) Drinks prices start at $4-$5 for the regular size and an extra 70 cents for the large size. Very reasonable prices for SF especially for the high quality ingredients used. As a heads up, the tea flavor is STRONG so they recommend normal sweet to balance the bitterness of the tea. If you like your milk tea on the creamier side, opt for the oat milk option. They were THAT good. My only feedback would be to add some pickled red ginger for a nice pop of tangy spice. The Hojicha Milk Tea (low caffeine) is strong and floral tasting, not as nutty as I expected but still solid. I like my milk teas on the creamy side, so I liked the one with oat milk versus the one with 2% milk. Service is excellent. The ladies who run this place are warm, welcoming, and customer oriented. If your drink is not sweet enough or too sweet, they're more than happy to adjust the sweetness. They tell each customer upfront about this and even have a sign in English and Spanish. On my second visit, they greeted me by name. They're making an effort to get to know/form a relationship with their customers and the local community which is great. Please consider adding a tip jar. I had heard great things about District Tea and was in need of a caffeine boost in the evening, so I headed here after work. I actually ordered ahead via their website, which was super convenient and easy to use. I chose to order a matcha latte, and was pleasantly surprised that the price was under $5- rare for tea places in the Bay Area. I dished out an extra $0.50 for the oat milk replacement, although there's also soy milk for free. We got there close to closing, so the wait was super short, and we also saw that they had a bunch of cute looking lunch boxes that we're going to come back and try! We got the mung bean latte and the jasmine milk tea. The mung bean was actually quite surprising; super strong traditional mung bean taste, which I really enjoyed! If you're not used to the taste, it might take you by surprise. The jasmine milk tea was also good; strong tea flavor with a nice creamy balance. The pearls were good too. The tea was a bit sour but yummy when blended with the milk - still prefer the original Thai tea. The boba was a bit soft. 2) the Korean corn dogs I was excited to see because I don't see it much on menus in LA, but definitely DO NOT recommend these as it was largely the outer shell with just a small amount of sausage (which wasn't yummy anyway) and some cheese that easily hardens. I'm so glad I found District Tea! I was in a rush at work to order a large quantity of boba...just the tapioca. I reached out to District Tea via E-mail, and Mickie responded within the hour, letting me know she was happy to complete/support my order. While I was there, I decided to order a couple of drinks for myself/colleagues (btw their website is so pretty - designed by Mickie herself - so talented and aesthetically pleasing) and we ended up with the Mung Bean Latte (for me) and two honk kong milk teas with boba for my two colleagues. I loved the freshness of the Mung Bean Latte. I advise getting it less sweet. If you don't prefer gritty stuff, don't get the Mung Bean latte - it's not smooth because of the beans, but it's all personal preference. The HK milk tea is pretty strong! Their strawberry matcha is actually better than boba guys.
