I went there last week with a group of friends. The ambiance was nice however the servers were very rude. We waited 20- 25 minutes for them to take our order, anytime we tired calling them over they completely ignored us. We had ordered 4 apps (crab ragoone, scallion pancake, spring roll, and popcorn chicken) and 3 beef entrees (szillinf beef with black pepper sauce, beef dumplings). The beef entrees came out before the appetizers. However one of the beef (szillling black pepper beef) came out and it was not cooked thoroughly. The popcorn chicken was dry and didn't taste good and the beef dumplings were not seasoned properly. The server did not check-in on the food, didn't refill waters. Just an unpleasant experience. The food is pretty pricey and is a hit or a miss. Beware, that there servers are very rude. If you know what you like, get takeout it's better than sitting there to be disrespected. read more

Famous XXL juicy pork & shrimp bun dumpling: it was smaller than I expected. I expected it to be bigger based on the pictures I've seen on Instagram. However, it was still fun to take pictures and experience eating the largest dumpling in my life! Since it was bigger than normal dumplings, it was hard to eat the soup part of the dumpling properly, but they give you a straw to sip hahaha. It tasted exactly like regular-sized pork & shrimp bun dumpling :) General Gao's chicken: my friend and I weren't planning to order this dish but we had to because a lady, who was sitting nearby the front door, was eating this and we were super intrigued! We actually asked her what she ordered so we could order the same thing haha. We couldn't thank her enough because even though District Kitchen is famous for its "famous XXL juicy pork & shrimp bun dumpling," my friend and I wanted to come back to this restaurant because of General Gao's chicken! Ok so this is my new favorite !! Delicious food, extremely good quality ingredients, super awesome martinis, and the service - the best of all. We ordered the Crab Rangoons, Cucumber Salad with Fungus -and Veg Dumplings- we finished everything. For main course we ordered the boiling chicken hot pot - ughhh super spicy but delicious too. Its good for 4 people!! For desert we ordered the mango crepe - it was sooo yumm - finished.. and the drinks - the pear ginger Martini, lavender pomegranate martini, thai tea martini etc.. the drinks were awesome too.. we had 5!! definitely a go to place for a date or birthday dinner or just casual dining. Honestly disappointed in nearly every dish. Perhaps we were just ordering the wrong dishes. The xiaolongbao (12$) had thick skins and not much flavor in the meat (the soup was flavorful though); I am quite picky about my xlb though. The mama dumplings (11$) had rather mushy and not strongly flavored fillings. I liked the eggplant in the chicken and eggplant (15$), but it was otherwise very sweet, not very flavorful, and the chicken was tough. The sizzling beef noodle (25$) was extremely salty, though the noodles were nicely bouncy. The large white rice (5$) was fine, but weirdly clumpy. The outdoor seating had extremely loud music, and the response to a request to turn it down was a bit odd, but they did eventually turn it down. I guess because the street is quite busy, they have the music so loud? Service was slow but friendly; I think they were understaffed. The server is extremely rude.. he was on his phone the entire time while taking our order and barely paying attention to me, my gf, and our food and drink order. Decent food, mostly came here to try the giant soup dumpling. Only to discover there's a reason why soup dumplings are usually small. The large soup dumpling kind of falls apart after you drink the juice from a straw and open it up. It's a bit difficult to eat, and the meat is just a round mass in the middle of the leftover xlb skin. We also got beef noodle soup and 鱼香肉丝 pork with garlic sauce. Both dishes were decent, but nothing to write home about. The waiter was very kind and attentive - probably saved them a star. I think there are very decent Chinese restaurants around the corner, but they may not have proper xlb. I would be down to come back to try their regular xlb - maybe those are worth raving about. read more

The vegetable noodles were the highlight, everything else was pretty good. The food comes out at all different times. We added on a general gso tofu towards the end of the meal which we never received. Now the bad... the service was horrible. There was one waiter and you had to flag him down for everything- drinks, water, the check. He did not check on us or anyone else once, nor did he acknowledge we never got a full meal. He was also bartender and it seemed like he just had too many jobs to do to adequately care for his tables. We felt like we had to ask him for everything at once or else we wouldn't see him again for 20 minutes. Overall, we probably won't return due to the service. read more

I didn't even know Asian Tapas were a thing until I went here! This restaurant is amazing and top notch. It has the fancy upper class vibe to it with its fancy décor, lighting, and setting, but the food here is very affordable. This restaurant is the sister of All-Seasons Table. The Food - We ordered the Malaysian Satay with Grilled Chicken, Vietnamese Spring Rolls, Drunken Ribs, Arirang Poutine, Mango Salsa with Honey Shrimp, and Mini Pork Banh Mi Bites. Everyone's favorite by far was the Arirang Poutine which were crispy fries topped with melted cheddar jack cheese, caramelized kimchi, bulgogi, scallions & sesame seeds and drizzled with garlic gojuchang aioli. The Korean spices were heavenly and it was a new unique Asian take on French fries I'd never tasted before. If you like Korean foo and French Fries this dish is fire! Our other favorites were the Mini Pork Banh Mi, Drunken Ribs, and Malaysian Satay with Grilled Chicken. The Banh Mi tasted very authentic even down to the crunch and texture. The drunken ribs are a must for all meat lovers. The dry roasted meat topped with Hoisin sauce made my knees weak. The "weakest" tapas that we got that didn't stand out to me were the Vietnamese Spring Rolls and Mango Salsa with Honey Shrimp. They weren't bad by any means, but they just tasted bland and seemed non-exciting compared to the other dishes. The only entrée we got was the Taiwanese Pork Belly Don. Pork Belly Lovers rejoice!!! This wonderful dish combined like 5 big fat tender juicy pieces of Pork Belly with fried hard-boiled egg and Asian veggies. The chef that made this deserves a medal! These were tapas so each portion wasn't large and usually had 3-4 pieces each, but that was perfect our of group of 4. The Service - Tai our server for the night was great! It was our first-time dining here and he recommended to use a lot of the great food that we ordered! The staff was very friendly, approachable, and professional. They checked on us frequently enough without being annoying. The service was also very fast! We got seated immediately and our dishes came out quickly 2 at a time so we could keep up with the pace. The Price - Most of the tapas were $6-8 so thus VERY AFFORDABLE when you come with a group of 4 or more. The tapas were a good portion for the quality and price. The Taiwanese Pork Belly Don was HUGE and that only cost $12! You're getting the fancy fine dining experience here at a huge discount! District Kitchen is a super-short walk from the Malden Station T stop on the Orange Line. But if you are arriving via car, we noticed a sign posted outside that they have Free Parking at 37 Florence Street after 6pm Weekdays and All Day Sat - Sun, as well as Validated Parking at 39 Florence Street at the Jackson Street Garage. Better safe than sorry, so I would suggest driving by District Kitchen on Florence Street to make sure that these agreements are still in place before heading onward to find a spot for your vehicle. The wheelchair accessible restaurant has a nice open layout, with flowers decorating each table nicely and simply. We enjoyed their choice of music with the voice of Michael Jackson sending us off back into the world as we departed. Popular dishes here include the DK Burger $11 (bulgogi, lettuce, tomatoes, caramelized onions, mushrooms, gojuchang aioli, scallion oil, on a buttered miso brioche, served w/fries) and the Taiwanese Pork Belly Don $10 (shoyu braised pork belly, fried hard-boiled egg, sweet & sour mustard green, over a bed of rice), and both were popular as well at our table. I shared both along with the Pork Katsu Don $10 (deep fried w/ chicken or pork, w/ sauteed vegetables and eggs, served over a bed of rice) with two others and enjoyed all, though we deemed the katsu the lightest of the 3. The pork fat in the pork belly was the nice and melty sort, terrific for enriching the rice. If I had to go with just one dish to eat all on my own, I'd probably opt for the Katsu, but as a shared meal, the richer and heavier dishes rounded it out well. DK is officially open for business! In a conscious effort to discover and spend more time in restaurants in my own back yard, I stumbled upon District Kitchen. When I say stumbled, It can be taken quite literal, as my original intention was to visit B&B cafe. Well surprise surprise... B&B is permanently closed and has been rebranded and redesigned to the new District Kitchen, open for all of a grand total of four days! Speaking of design, this is a beautiful space. Modern and roomy with an open kitchen concept, for those that fancy seeing the chefs at work. Located a few feet from the Malden T and a block from the town center, this location is prime. That also means parking is a challenge unless you are willing to either pay for the nearby T park n ride fee or find street parking a few blocks away. My Lunch as a whole can be summed up in one phrase: culinary rollercoaster.... Seafood and corn chowder - great concept. A seafood chowder topped with a puff pastry, finished off with a few sesame seeds. The pastry is without question the best I've had. Flaky, buttery, perfection. The chowder includes an actual whole clam and shrimp. The sweetness from the corn really stands out. Unfortunately this hardly qualifies as a chowder, as it was not at all thickened. Tasty, but it's really a soup. DK Burger - a Korean inspired bulgogi burger packed with mushrooms, Caramelized onions, scallion oil and gojuchang aioli. An excellent burger sitting on a Miso buttered Brioche bun. This is a flavor bomb in the best way. Fries - And then came the fries. Creatively served in a mini deep fry basket, but unfortunately fell well short. The fries where extremely inconsistent, varying from a little too done to inedibly crispy. There is sooooo much potential for this to be a great addition to the Malden dining scene, but the technically flaws will have to be corrected. Thus I am conflicted on how to rate District Kitchen. 3.5 sounds about right, but at less than one week old, I'm feeling optimist and will round up to a 4. Will be back for sure! read more

Lunch prices are even better! Close to Malden station, street parking for cars. Food (Dinner Prices) Arirang Poutine (4/5) $8 as of 4/2017. fries with melted cheese, kimchi and gojuchang aioli. Pretty good!! The sweet tangy kimchi really brought down the slight greasiness of the fries so complimented really well. Portion was small for $8 but still worth trying. Bits of pork in there which really didn't push up the flavors much so I suggest taking it out and bringing the price of dish down by $1 or 2. Unagi Don (4/5) $15 as of 4/2017. The unagi was fatty and tender, just the way I like it. The flavors were strong and presentation really sparked the appetite. Katsu Don (4/5) $13 as of 4/2017. Crispy panko pork cutlet and runny egg on tops was superb. Definitely worth order. The juicy tender pork was cooked with right amount of time. Taiwanese Pork belly don (5/5) $12 as of 4/2017. Melt in your mouth fatty pork belly...*drools* the stewed flavors was a big hit and definitely can't stop eating. The cilantro worked perfectly and gave it the right sharp note that cut down some of the fatty flavor. Definitely will come back to try more of the menu items! read more

The food at District Kitchen really is top-notch for Chinese in the area. I've eaten here and gotten takeout on countless occasions over the last couple of years. I strongly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for excellent Chinese food anywhere around Malden. Unfortunately I will never order delivery from here again and cannot recommend moving forward. I placed a large order for a special occasion early in the evening for delivery between 8-8:15. The food did not arrive until 9:30. When the food was late, we called to check in and were told it was with the delivery driver. We then called back (8:50pm) only to learn the food was still being cooked. The DK team did not offer any form of compensation for this extremely late and fairly expensive order. Understood that there are staffing shortages but the least one could do is be honest and provide updates in situations like this. read more

Oh man...I LOVE this place. Pan-Asian made with a unique individual spin. The chef notates family recipes which are out of this world. So, I've had a lot of lousy pollack-filled Rangoon. And yes, I'm pretty sure it's not really an authentic Asian dish. DK Rangoon has legit crab. Came here on Sunday night. Didn't wait long to be seated. The food is awesome. We also ordered the XXL soup dumpling and liked it. It looks like most people who didn't have a pleasant experience with it mostly complained about two things: soup is too hot and not much meat inside the dumpling. well, I think the owner should have reminded customers to not immediately use straw to avoid getting burned. I have seen other stores do such reminders to customers, which is nice. !!!!! For soup dumplings, especially for ones like this big, there should not be much meat in them, because the gist is about enjoying the soup, lots of soup. If you see a soup dumpling with a lot filling, it's probably not authentic. read more

Came here to celebrate a few birthdays. The staff was helpful and friendly. They made everything so smooth. The food came out in a timely matter. We got a few of my favorite from last time. The XL soup dumpling and whole fish in chilli hot pot. Both, were still so rich in flavor as last time. We also tried some other dishes on the menu like the calamari, Lobster, pork shoulder and crabs. They were all cooked in a Szechuan style method. The quality of the seafood and meat were fresh. I've been wanting to try this place out for a while. I found them on IG and they post some really yummy looking food! We went yesterday and it's right across from Malden station, which is nice because parking is hard. There's a lot up the road but the kiosk was indicating it was "full" even though it clearly wasn't. So we drove around a bit and had to walk probably 5 mins. The restaurant itself is a nice space, the decor is modern and you can see some of the cooking action from your seat. The bar seems to be pretty well stocked, which my partner appreciated. We ordered mama's dumplings, beef fried rice, salt and spicy calamari, and golden chicken wings. The food came fast and tasted fresh. The calamari was well seasoned but not spicy and I have 0 spice tolerance. Overall really tasty. The staff is super friendly and attentive. They were really sweet. We would definitely come back sans baby. Which brings me to why I'm giving 4 stars, no high chairs, they did have a booster seat but with a squirmy 14 month old that didn't work. We ended up keeping her in our laps and her car seat. They probably don't get a lot of children in there but it would be nice to have a high chair or two for those few times they do. read more

I'm a huge fan of their dumplings- especially the Shrimp and Mama's (pork). Their menu is diverse and you can find anything for all diners - soups, appetizers, pork belly, pineapple shrimp orange chicken, clams with black beans, noodles, pork, chicken, vegetables and tofu. Everything we have had is delicious. Their Crab Rangoon is noted as the best in town ... and they are not wrong. They have a special Sunday brunch that we will try very soon!
