I've been obsessed with Indian food lately so last time I was in London I needed to try this locals popular spot. Casual spot with vibrant atmosphere. Bold Indian-inspired flavors. The dishes were packed with depth and richness. Our server was helpful explaining the menu and suggesting dishes. Some of our favorite courses were the house black daal, okra fries, Butter chicken and garlic naan. They also have a creative drink menu with alcoholic and non-alcoholic options. The chai tea is delicious! The place can get busy so I strongly suggest reservation but they are also walk-in friendly. Please come to New York!!
My favorite place in London, possibly the world. Saw on "Somebody Feed Phil" and knew I had to stop in next time I was in the city. Came with family and got a table in the sun room. Will never forget our experience. Staff was incredibly kind and helped make suggestions and made our 3 year old's experience great too. The food was incredible! From small shareable plates to larger curry plates. So so so so good. 100% recommend to anyone looking for a great spot in London.
Dishoom continues to be my most favorite stop when I am in London. My favorite has to be the Goa fish curry and the chicken biryani. Also the lamb chops are not to be missed. Service is amazing always, we were seated within 10 minutes on a busy Saturday night. ambiance is nice. Clean and nicely decorated. Can't wait to come back and can't wait for Dishoom Las Vegas to open!
This place was phenomenal. If I could teleport to any restaurant, it'd be this Dishoom. We made reservations so we were seated fairly quickly. Note that the inside is quite tight and the tables are very close together. We ordered garlic naan and it was so dang good. The fresh pieces of garlic were perfection. We also ordered the chicken Ruby and - wow. The chicken was perfectly tender. The sauce was so flavorful and delicious. I still haven't stopped thinking about it months later. Highly recommend this spot!
Really good, lives up to the hype! We didn't have a reservation but stopped but stopped by around noon and were seated immediately. They almost seated us at a table with sofas (living room style) but we asked to move to a table and they were able to accommodate. If my memory serves, I think we ordered the carnaby special, house black daal, chicken ruby, and chili chicken. I can't remember why the waffle style chips were called (or if it was complimentary) but those were really good! A fun way to try out all the different sauces. Everything we ordered was delicious but our favorite would have to be the ruby chicken, it's the closest thing to butter chicken. The other 2 curries were also rich in flavor. I really liked their chili chicken, but my bf thought it was too spicy to handle. Overall it was an amazing meal and I can't wait for it to open in NYC when I visit!
This was my second time eating at Dishoom, and while I enjoyed it the first time, this time was even better because we weren't as jetlagged this time around. But definitely make a reservation because it's a popular spot amongst all of their locations and it fills up quick. We got The dishoom margarita - you'll like this if you like really sweet drinks! And the spice on the side also gives it a good kick. Kingfisher - this was such a clean mild beer, like I can see this being a good way to get into beers if you don't like them Basmati rice - pretty standard rice, but make sure you know which dishes come with what because you probably will need to order rice on the side. Naan - the garlic naan is obviously more flavorful and delicious than the plain. But when paired with all of the flavorful food, you can't really tell as much so honestly I would probably just get the plain next time to save some money. Chote papad with mango chutney - the mango chutney is really good! The sweetness and spiciness is balanced really well, and it's served with a crispy chip like papad. Methi gosht and paratha (1/2 plate, Chef's Carnaby Special) - I might prefer the paratha over the naan! It has more of a chewy texture to it. The curry had a little bit of a kick but was also pretty sweet. We definitely could have gone for a full plate though. And I really liked the cucumbers and onions, it was super refreshing and clean amongst all the strong flavors at the table. Dishoom chicken tikka - this was one of my favorites purely because it was more my level of spice. Where so far everything else just had a kick, this gave a little more of a burn - enough to make your nose run a little but not enough to make your tongue suffer. Gunpowder potatoes - really good potatoes, but also pretty standard potatoes. The lemon and white sauce are so so good in making them lighter and I wish they gave more white sauce. Because it could do with being even lighter. With all the curries and naans and rice, idk that having potatoes on the side is my favorite. While they're good, everything just feels really heavy, and I'd rather just get something more refreshing. Chicken ruby - I feel like this is the dish that everyone really gets. And I can see why! Super creamy, sweet, and flavorful, it's kind of similar to butter chicken. The food comes out pretty quickly and the workers are so friendly. And I love the little mango candies they bring out along with the bill.
I feel like I've thought about Dishoom at least once a day ever since trying it during my most recent trip to London. This is a rite of passage for tourists and there are multiple locations across London to check out so you have many opportunities to try it! We waited about ~30 minutes and another group waiting in line said it was "worth the wait" and they weren't wrong. There were only 2 of us and we feasted like queens. You must get the okra fries, chili cheese toast, ruby chicken (this is THE dish), and chili broccoli salad. If you have room for dessert, I highly recommend the kulfi which is pretty much like ice cream but in a popsicle. We also had the methi gosht and paratha along with the gunpowder potatoes, but that isn't anything to write home about. The service was friendly and efficient. The actual restaurant itself has darker/dimmed lighting inside and I felt like we had to use our flash to look at the menus (or maybe our eyes are just that old). Overall, it was an amazing experience and I would recommend coming here at least once during your trip to London. To be honest, at one point, we were thinking about going back again for a second time.
Dishoom is a must visit when you are in London! The vibe here is so cool. We came for breakfast and I believe you can make reservations here but walk ins are ok too. Sometimes the lines get long but it moves fast. Their house chai is an absolute must and it is bottomless! They have the recipe right at the entrance. Naan rolls are super yummy, we tired sausage naan roll. Luckily our timing was a transition between breakfast and all day dining so I also got to try Vada pav which is probably the best Vada pav I have ever had! I can't wait to go back and try rest of all day dining.
Delicious! Probably one of the best Indian places we've had. First time trying and despite being a chain, it was great. Service was attentive. We sat at the bar before moving into the dining area. Unfortunate that during the transition between the bar and restaurant, the refillable chai wasn't brought over. Just know that your chai is bottomless :)
IYKYK, Indian food in the UK is a must! It was so hard to decide where but my friends and the internet recommended we try Dishoom. Oh my gosh this place is so dang good! Reservations are a must because this is one of the most popular places to get Indian cuisine in London. We arrived before our reservations and sat at the bar. Once our table was ready, we were seated. The restaurant is quite massive. The bar is reminiscent of a typical pub--dark, cozy, old school. As you walk into the dining side it's bright, lots of plants and art, and mismatched tables and chairs for ranging party sizes. Service is fantastic, all of our waitresses are kind, accommodating, and fun to chat to. Everyone who helped us were efficient. We shared family style, ordering the Chef's Caranby Special, Makmali Paneer, Chicken Ruby, House Black Daal, Garlic Naan, and Basmati Rice. Hands down, my favorite curry was the black daal. It is so freaking addicting--creamy, rich, and delicious. The other curries were superb with a hint of spice, plenty of seasoning, and decent meat portions. Our starches were all great accompaniments. For dessert, they had some of the Coconutty Fruit Crumble. I took a bite and the crumble was good--sweet, coconutty, and filled with fruit. I decided to order a House Chai with Oat Milk. It was one of the best chais and a mixture of all the goodness--sweet, spicy, bold, and creamy. Dishoom is a well loved restaurant chain in England. Their Caranby location is off Kingly, which is a walking only path. Make reservations in advance! By the time we left there were at least 40 people waiting outside because it's that good. A true must try when visiting or living in London.
Dishoom was definitely one of the most recommended restaurants for us to try when we were in London for our first time, and I'm glad to say that it did not disappoint! We made a reservation for lunch at this location (Carnaby) on a Monday and it wasn't too busy at all when we arrived. The interior is a bit dark but part of the main dining area does open up to a bright and well-lit section which was nice during the daytime. We started with the okra fries and pau bhaji, both of which were super flavorful! For the pau bhaji, the combo of the somewhat spicy mashed vegetables with the buttery buns was an absolute delight. Then for the main courses, my fiance and I shared the black daal and the methi gosht with paratha (which is the cafe special at the Carnaby location). Both dishes were fantastic, and we definitely used up all of the paratha to soak up the curries. All in all, what a delicious meal and I'll absolutely be back again if I'm in London in the future!
We were super glad to have made a reservation for an early Tuesday dinner. 30 mins after we were seated at 5:30PM, the whole place was packed and a queue had begun forming outside in the street. The restaurant is comfortable but feels small and cosy. We had a super friendly server who offered a great tour of the menu, and gave us some advice on how to order for 2 people. Well, the choices were excellent, but we did end up with wayyyyy too much food, so be careful overestimating your appetites! To kick things off, the Chota Papad was a fun, 3D-take on the poppadom, and came with great chutneys. We enjoyed the Carnaby Chef's Special, Methi Gosht with paratha; super tender lamb and great warmth. It's offered in a half-portion if needed. However, the top dish for us was the Chicken Ruby. To this homecoming Brit, it felt like a "proper" curry and had a lovely nostalgia of high street Indian restaurants of the 90s. We were talked into adding a small plate, and really loved the Fish Amritsari - but this, plus a roti, took the volume of food over the top for us, so we were sad to walk away from the leftovers. Next time, I'd stick with one entree, one small plate and the magical hexagonal poppadom bites. Dishoom deserves its accolades, and this particular location is highly recommended for a laid back, comfortable and welcoming experience.

I don't normally go out of my way for Indian food, but when in London, you've got to try this place. Best Indian food EVER! We sat outside along the walkway which was perfect for people watching. I think the passersby in general were curious as to what Indian food is all about. People would literally stop and stare to see what was on our table. Service was outstanding with our waitress making thoughtful suggestions. The Bombay Pimm drink - mint, citrus, pomegranate, and coriander served with ginger beer instead of lemonade - was refreshing in the warm weather. The one dish you have to get? Salli boti. It's braised lamb in a rich and flavorful gravy served with buttered roti bread. I ordered a half plate and ended up ordering a second because it was that good. If you're on the fence about lamb or have never tried it, then order it here and make this your first. Order the garlic naan as well. The bread was terrific by itself but even better with the lamb. We tried many dishes and they were all delicious. The favs were the prawns - Masala if you like it grilled or Koliwada if you want a little more tamarind flavor with date chutney. The chicken tikka was good too. Although the biryani was wonderfully aromatic, I'd pass on this and carb up with the naan. There's just so much else to try. The food is amazing. Be sure to make reservations. There's little to no chance that you're going to walk in and sit down...especially if you're a party of four or more. read more

Visiting London for a bit and this place was highly recommended. The line wasn't too bad and we were able to get drink at the bar while we waited. The staff is extremely friendly and our waiter was amazing, he explained the menu to us and gave great recommendations. I got the chicken tikka and the garlic naan and it was delicious. Also tried the ruby chicken very good as well. The only thing was that the music is a tad loud but it fits the busy ambience. read more

Very nice branch of Dishoom, a bit loud but not too much. Service is very good since they are good at managing expectations (I was told a 45-60 minutes waiting time but it took way less time despite being a busy Friday night). For starters I had the vegetable Samosas and Pau Bhaji which were both really good. The buns from the Pau Bhaji were a bit too buttery but overall really good and the dip was amazing. For mains I shared the chicken Ruby and the House Black Daal with a garlic Naan and a plain tandoori Roti. The chicken dish was amazing, vary flavorful and with the chicken very juicy. The Daal was good and a huge portion, possibly even too much. Drinks are also good, the Kala Khatta Sharbat is amazing to clean your palate between one dish and another and their house IPA is also pretty good. read more

There is reason why this place has so many great reviews... it's THAT good. For starters, I'm not a fan of lentils, but several people recommended that we try it. I kid you not, it was my favorite thing we ordered. I can't believe how good it is. If we had time, we would have come here again. We were so pleasantly surprised by every item on the menu. The flavors blended so well and wasn't like anything we've had prior. Pro tip: if you don't have dinner reservations (we didn't) get there before 6pm and though the line looks long, it goes by quickly. It's so worth the wait. They were so lovely and even gave us chai tea while we waited. I wish I could remember our server's name because she was amazing and you can tell she just loved the food there. Really great experience. Can't wait to come back! read more
We tried our luck with walk-ins late on a weeknight and waited about 45 minutes. Keena pau - ground lamb. Decent appetizer, comes with a side of bread. Chicken Tikka kebab - a bit too salty. Wouldn't recommend it. Lamb boti kebab - flavorful, amazing dish and my favorite. Black caal - lentil based. Goes well with the grilled meats and roti. Chicken Ruby - tastes similar to Tikka masala but a bit spicier and not as buttery. Roomali roti - like that it's not too flaky. Garlic naan - decent. not very fluffy. Service was okay. Water refill could be much faster. It was a bit too chilly at night to keep the windows open so the food cooled down quicker than I would have liked. read more

[Pre-COVID post] Everyone who has tried Dishoom has recommended this place and I see why. This is honestly my favorite Indian restaurant, and I've only been to this location once. It was about a 40-minute wait, which was lucky because after we came back to be seated, there was a huge line forming outside. The chicken ruby and garlic naan were so good! But, my favorite dish was by far the salli boti (lamb). They didn't even have this dish at the Dishoom in King's Cross, so it was even more special and definitely a must-try. read more

Really nice restaurant but the line was almost an hour long outside.. in winter. On the other hand the staff was really welcoming and nice, every ten minutes or so they kept coming and offering little glasses of either hot chai or sherry - how lovely. We tried both their chai and sherry and they were both really good. When we got inside there was another wait. We got lucky and found a place at the bar and waited there. Finally we got a table and ordered couple of dishes - Butter Chicken, Matar Paneer, naan bread and mango lassi with cardamom and eggnog chai. The food was very tasty and flavourful. I did not enjoy my eggnog chai, I think it was too sweet. And I wouldn't say it was the best I have ever tried. I'm not sure it was worth the wait for more than hour. I would definitely like to come back and try other dishes. read more
Make sure to come here early or make a reservation, or expect to wait! There is a bar area available during your wait but you can't wander around as the pager is based on wifi. This location is right near a ton of shopping options and also has outdoor seating. It was about a 30 minute wait at 4pm for two people. We were seated outside where the waiter asked us for our drinks. Their house chai is delicious (and also bottomless). We also ordered, chicken ruby, naan, chicken tikka and lamb kebabs. After that, the service was horrible. Super super slow. Food took forever to come out and they forgot about the chicken ruby so we waited an extra 30 mins after we had finished eating the rest of the food. Waiters were hard to track down outside. However, a waitress did give us fresh complimentary naan as ours got cold in the meantime, which was greatly appreciated. Food-wise, everything is delicious!! And they do not hold back on the spice! Super flavorful, tender chicken and one of the best indian foods I've had!! I would definitely come back again and I hope I just caught service on a bad day. Because of that, I knocked the review down 1.5 stars. read more

You can almost always anticipate a wait here. This is my 6th time to London and my first time coming here because the wait is always extremely high. This time we came on a Saturday afternoon around 1230 or so. We got there and there was no line outside for people waiting however there was about a 45 minute wait. So we decided we're sticking it out this time and we'll start drinking at the bar in the mean time. We ordered some great drinks and had great service at the bar and while we ate at our table. The food was absolutely delicious. We ordered some lamb chops, prawns and some ruby chicken with naan. Everything had great flavor and everything was cooked to perfection. I can see why there is always a wait here. Whenever I come back to London I will make it a point to eat here again. read more

Im traveling from USA and I was recommended this place by my Uber driver. I arrived 10PM on August 28th after reading that the restaurant is open till 11PM. I was given attitude by one host standing behind the welcome counter saying they are closung at 10:45pm and I then asked to be seated outside to which he replied I have to finish my food by 11PM in order for me to sit outside and then the other guy appeared being utterly rude saying no, no service outside despite the fact there were seats empty. I told them I would sit inside but the music was extremely loud, that same guy seemed like a manager shrugged his shoulder and said okay. Anyways I was given a buzzer and I waited like 10 more minutes after this whole utterly AWFUL ordeal, I then went inside returned the buzzer and told the first guy on the counter that they all are very rude and now making me wait more to be seated that totally ruined my mood and experience, I decided to leave. I would never return or recommend this absolutely horrible place to anyone. Not sure what is the Hype about this place where the people who work there do not respect their customers. Poor Customer Service!!! read more

A restaurant that creates a new culture through four-themed space interiors and newly interpreted Indian food. Chicken Biryani was so fantastic and the perfect balance of ingredients was amazing. Mutton curry, It's not an orthodox style curry, but I think it played a abundant role in pursuing tastes and flavors that go awesomely well with other menus overall. It would be nice to add a little more curry menu, but it was already perfect at the moment. Prawn koliwada was kind of appetizer for me and it made palatable start fot all the menu. Some people call this place as a healing space. It was a great night where I found out why. Definitely will come again!! read more

Probably the best Indian Food I've had... in my life. Waiter was top notch also. He constantly cracked jokes, checked in, and really worked for the service. Incredibly impressed. Chai was legit. Mushrooms were legit. The eggs and meat were just a must. Would easily come here all the time. read more

One of the best Indian restaurants you'll ever eat at! I don't even know where to begin. Perhaps you should know that there is always a wait (at least for dinner) regardless of the day. Be prepared to wait at least an hour if not more. But the wait is worth it. The food is supposed to be shared family style. We ordered the vegetable samosas (with pea and potato filling warmly spiced with cinnamon and cloves), Masala Prawns, House Black Daal (Dishoom's signature dish -- dark, rich, deeply flavored and cooked over 24 hours), Mutton pepper fry (mutton marinated in red chili, ginger and garlic, cooked with black peppercorns and whole spices) and garlic naan. The food came out surprisingly fast, which is good if you had to wait an hour like we did. All the dishes were perfectly well seasoned and delicious. The samosas were crisp, with a delicious filling of peas and potatoes. The Prawns were grilled to perfection, succulent and juicy. The mutton was very tender. The daal was buttery good. And the naan was good as always. Overall, it was a fantastic meal and would highly recommend. read more
Indian food is a MUST in London and Dishoom showed up everywhere while I was researching for my recent trip. I believe there are 5 locations but this one on Kingly St was the closest to where we were staying. There will be a long wait during dinner hours and you can only make advance reservations with party of 6+. Our wait time was just under an hour at 8pm on a Sunday, we were offered refreshing watermelon lemonade while waiting. We had chicken tika, the daily special of lentil curry, roasted corn and a side of veggies. As in all indian restaurants the rice and naan bread are ordered separately. Everything was flavorful and delicious! I was most surprise with the lentil curry. It was so creamy and tasty! I also recommend the rose lassi, it was so refreshing! For dessert you got to try the kulfi ice cream on a stick! We had the mango and the original and can't decided which flavor we enjoy better. We love this place so much we came back the very next morning for breakfast!! The naan bread roll is sooooo goooood!! I wish I didn't have to share that with my husband because his omelet was only so-so. Overall a great Indian restaurant with friendly service. Be prepare to wait for dinner but we walked right in during breakfast hour. It's also very noisy and dark during dinner, sometimes I feel like yelling across the table to talk. read more

This was hands down the best meal my husband and I had in London. Worth the hype and worth the wait and/or weight. We ordered few rounds of drinks, chili chicken, black dahl, chicken ruby, lamb biriyani and plenty of naan. We definitely over-ordered with the intent of trying a little bit of everything but not finishing everything. Our waiter was the sweetest. He was attentive, polite, gave us a ton of recommendations since he knew we were from out of town. Any way, by the end of the meal, between my husband and I we finished literally everything. It was THAT good! I was so full that I felt like I was about to burst like Violet Beauregarde from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.... So close to walking towards the light post-meal, but so worth it! There are many locations to choose from. Of course the wait will be longer in the more touristy/congested areas. If you have time to wait it out, definitely worth a visit. read more
One of my favorite Indian restaurants in the world. The reason is, it's upscale in comparison to most Indian restaurants and the food is bursting full of flavor. The restaurant is set in a 1960 Bombay scene. The reason I did not give this 5 stars is that the kitchen can be kind of slow. It's beneficial to order some starters (like a samosa) to hold you and your companions over. The lamb kabobs are tasty, and the mutter paneer is delicious. The naan was smaller than I would have liked. For four people, I'd suggest 3 orders. Also, the server mentioned 2-3 dishes per person, I'd actually say 1.5 is good. Otherwise you'll have too much food. read more
I visited Dishoom during my recent London trip (pre-COVID) and can't wait to go back. I went for breakfast and got the vegan Bombay; it was the best vegan meal I ever had. Great flavors that all complement each other perfectly, and the meal itself is a creative and unique concept. I also had the chai which was great and tasted homemade and comforting. read more

This is the Indian Mac Donald's . The food is OK considering the price . The service is fast , waiters are nice and helpful . The decor is great and the ambiance is excellent . The only issue is the line , we had to wait 40 minutes to try Dishoom. Not sure if we will be back but my kids will visit again . I think is is a great restaurant for the teenagers . read more
