The food was so good. It was worth the 1.5 hrs wait. The ambiance was cozy and the service was so great. This is the first time we try it and hope we will have more chance to visit London to stop by again. read more

Food, service, & ambiance were awesome. It was very busy but we were able to walk in, without reservations, & seated in about 1/2 hour.

The meal was very tasty, but we didn't enjoy the service. They were trying to push all the time extra food and drinks, clearly with the aim of making more profit. It seems as though the servers were more focused on upselling than truly ensuring if the customer was having a pleasant experience. I ordered a beer, and 5 minutes later they were asking me if I desired another one, while my glass was almost full still. Also asking every 3/4 minutes if we needed more rice or bread... That's the type of experience you'll encounter. read more

I've been going to Dishoom since 2011 making it a necessary stop on all my trips to London. Breakfast, lunch or dinner- this place does everything right. Theres enough to choose from whether you're in the mood for light snacks or complete meals. The menu changes from time to time. On this visit I had the Spicy Lamb Chops and Ruby Chicken (which is like a version of butter chicken.). Flavors are amazing, the meat is tender and its apparent they've taken time to marinate with quality spices. The prices are very reasonable given the quality of ingredients and atmosphere of the restaurant. My advice- skip the dodgy £6 curry joints and pay a little more for the quality and experience at Dishoom. read more

Great food, service, art deco style, and cocktails. No outdoor seating or atrium feel at this location.

Ambiance and service is just outstanding here! The food is great, but I think with all the hype, I expected better. They're definitely trying some interesting things so either way, if you're in town, it's worth the visit! If you're strictly looking for the best flavor in the city, I think there are a few places that are better. But don't let that deter you! Everyone deserves a little Dishoom (named after the sound effect of a punch in old Bollywood movies) in their lives! read more

TL;DR: Tasty with hits / misses, great ambiance + service, but pricey. Dishoom was the main Indian restaurant that folks recommended I try while in London. Overall, I was happy with the experience, especially with the amazing old timey atmosphere, live jazz music, and some really nice dishes. I just spent more than I wanted to (~GBP 70 OR USD100 / pp with drinks). Food: Some dishes with some really nice, deep flavors with some misses. -Vada Pau: Really tasty bun + delicious sauces! -Okra fries: Thin, crispy, + also delicious! -Masala prawns: Flavorful + plump. -Chicken ruby: Really deep, complex flavors - one of their better dishes -House black daal: Rich + deep flavors - also one of their better ones. -Breads: I was ecstatic to see that they had both roomali roti + puri, especially since I've never seen roomali roti outside of India. The puri was tasty (deep fried, flaky, yum) but the roomali roti wasn't as tasty as I'd hoped (can probably skip unless you want the novelty). -Cocktails: Fun, elegantly prepared (the old fashioned comes in a little bottle that you pour over a block of ice). Tasty but pretty pricey @ ~GBP 15 each. Ambiance: Really nice, elegant 20s / 30s feel with high ceilings. The jazz trio in on the upper level was a very nice touch! Service: Attentive, professional, + friendly. Might go again to try some of the better dishes, but only if I'm prepared to spend a lot more than an avg meal. read more

I was recommended by a friend to check out Dishoom, so I made it one of my top priorities to try Dishoom in London! There's many locations spread out but I decided to stop by this one since we were nearby. The restaurant is definitely nicer. It has a nice, casual vibe to it. We ordered the chicken ruby, mutton pepper fried, garlic naan, rice. The chicken ruby dish was delicious, we really enjoyed it! The curry here is rich, delicious and flavorful. My biggest complaint is that the portions and pricing. I wish it was better buck for your deal, quality is up to par though. Service is good. We did order a dish but they totally forgot it, we didn't mention it until the end though. Overall, a great place to indulge in your Indian cravings in the UK! read more

Best Indian food in London! I received several recommendations from friends and Dishoom did not disappoint! They are handicap accessible and have excellent customer service. The restaurant was packed! I highly recommend the full size Chef's Kensington Special. The mutton is so tender. The chickpea salad is unlike any salad I've ever had. Out of paratha, roti and naan, the paratha was my favorite. It was difficult picking dessert because all of the options sound delicious. The kala Khatta ice was interesting because it was salty. The kulfi, aka popsicles are yummy. I'm so happy this was my last meal in London. read more

Very unique Indian food experience. The food is unique and the restaurant has a great atmosphere with much "retro throwback".

Amazing food... visiting from San Diego. I'm also Persian... it was wonderful and the menu was impressive. I'll be back

Fantastic food and great ambience. Only downside is you have to wait for an hour or more if you walk-in. If you book in advance you have to maintain some timelines. read more

OK. I heard about Dishoom from people at work and online and was a must-try during my 3-day visit in London. The good part is a) you can make reservations and b) they have multiple locations. Unfortunately I didn't make reservations. I came at around 2pm for a super late lunch and had to wait about 30 minutes to get seated. The good part is you can wait at their bar area so it isn't that bad. The place itself presents well - the interior decor gives a feel of an old music hall. We were seated and everything on the menu looked excellent. We got the recommended ones, as well as an order of the roti and the garlic naan. Spicy lamb: The flavor is great but the serving itself is small (we ordered only 1 - should have gotten more) Black Daal: apparently this is the most popular dish here. I am usually a meat person but this was really good as well. Ruby Chicken: it's a bit sweet but so flavorful and the chicken is really juicy. Chef's Special: Each Dishoom has it's own special and the Kensington one is Mutton. It may be a bit hot for some people, but I think it had the perfect amount of heat without robbing the dish of its flavor. Although for 2 people we spent about 50, it really is one of the best Indian places I have eaten in my life. read more

Very good food. The Ambiance had a unique big city India feel. Did have to wait a while to get in but all worked out. Would make a reservation for party larger then 4. read more

Incredibly long wait... be prepared, but the food is heavenly. Make sure to order their teas.

Every morsel was delicious! From the buttered vegetables appetizer to the main meal. The service is unbeatable as well.

Love it. Great atmosphere and great service. Loved the Prawn Koliwada, the Daal, the spicy Lambchop and the special Biryani. The food comes quick so if you want a leisurely meal I would ask them to space it out more. read more

Dishoom - The whole table - Indian Near Me - Kensington, XGL

One of my favourite spots in Kensington! Dishoom has a wonderful Art Deco vibe paired with its Indian/Iranian fusion menu. First of all, the drinks are fantastic. I always suggest the house chai. It is the best chai I've had by far. Their other house made cocktails are great. The wine list is quite complementary to the menu. The menu is soooo flavourful. I haven't had anything that I didn't like. The naan is so tasty! I suggest the Black Daal - a fantastic lentil stew that pairs well with the naan. No matter the wait, Dishoom is worth it! read more

Chicken ruby and old fashioned are AMAZING we eat here at least 3 times when in London for one week

Fun vibe for sure. Food left something to be desired. The dal wasn't all that good. You csn find much better Indian food, but the vibe was fun read more

This was probably the best meal on our trip. I wish I had found it sooner as we also had our last meal here. And it was breakfast. I wish we could've tried their lunch. But the breakfast was also great. We tried to make a reservation online the morning of but it was closed out so plan ahead. We also got their early and was standing in the waiting area before we noticed that there was a sign on the door that said they were closed for a couple hours in the morning for inventory or something. Haha, silly us. They probably should've locked the door. Came back when they opened and was promptly seated. Not too busy but it was a weekday also. Our waiter was very friendly and polite and helpful. Anyways we got the bacon naan roll, Kejriwal, and a side of sausage. The Kejrlwal was recommended to us by the waiter. It's basically two fried eggs over chili cheese toast. And I liked it. The eggs were perfectly cooked - exactly how I liked it. It was more like what I would call over medium as the yolks were slightly runny but mostly cooked. The chili cheese toast was chili peppers and cheese (vs what the American's call bean and beef chili). I really like the bacon naan roll. I think the best part is the chili tomato jam. The bacon was also really good. The naan tasted freshly baked. And just the combination of all the ingredients is great. The sausage was alright. We also got a coffee a tea. The tea game it it's own pot with loose tea leaves. Very cute. Also it was very affordable - you could get away with a meal for less than 10 pounds per person. read more

Run don't walk. I dream of this meal nightly. The fried okra, chicken ruby, and chocolate pudding with chili ice cream are not to be missed.

As always I love the atmosphere and feel of Dishoom. You feel welcomed right from the beginning to when you walk out the door. Staff greet you and say goodbye, and the wonderful food is always there on offer. Only mishap here was that for some reason our waiter chose to try to place my friend's coffee over me and I didn't see him coming and raised my hand...right into the coffee which crashed to the table and all over my friend and me. They didn't charge me for my chai, but I think they might have also comp'ed her flat white, but otherwise, good as usual. read more

Visiting London and my husband's sister, she took us here not only once... But twice! It is THAT good. The menu is so large and varied, you can go several times and there would still be many more new options you would need to try, and from what we have eaten from the menu, they are all delicious! Between the ambiance, the service, the curries and the chai? Excellent! The house chai is so special, and unlimited! I definitely had 3 glasses before leaving, and brought some home with me as well so I can continue to enjoy! Very special place, and you must visit while spending time in London. Perfect place to grab a bite (can walk in at times, but make a reservation just in case) after visiting Hyde Park or Kensington Palace, right near by :) read more

Wow. I am still having dreams about Dishoom. You NEED to add this to your list of places to visit in London. It came highly recommended from several friends and was the first thing on the agenda as soon as we arrived. A friend we were meeting actually went without me and I dragged them back because I had to try. I would assume the line gets pretty busy but we went in the mid-afternoon and there were plenty of tables. Beware the food is delicious but the portions are big. What we ordered: -Dishoom Indian Pale Ale - great! Added to our palette and was tasty LAMB SAMOSAS - very traditional - recommended PAU BHAJI - This was honestly the best thing we ate. I didn't let the server take this away because we wanted to clean the plate. It was very flavorful and OKRA FRIES - delicious - they are skinny. TBH we dipped them in the Pau Bhaji and this was amazing SPICY LAMB CHOPS - this was the most underwhelming thing we ordered. They were not spicy and kind of dry.... I think we ordered 3 and only ate 1. Oh well, you win some you lose some CHEESE NAAN - Cheese naan aka a quesadilla. Like I said we overcomitted on the food and probably didnt need this but it was delicious DISHOOM CHICKEN TIKKA - AMAZING - flavorful and a signature dish. My fiance was very skeptical of "indian cuisine" but Dishoom - thank you for wooing us. This was the best meal we had in London! read more

When we booked our trip to London I asked all my friends and family who had previously been for recommendations and one thread was consistent among everyone...we MUST go to Dishoom. As such I made it my life's mission on our vacation to eat here. After two failed attempts due to the throngs of people also looking to experience the hype we finally made our way in on a Wednesday at 3 PM for a midday meal. We were warmly greeted by the hostess while we waited a short 15 minutes before we were seated in the dining hall. I will say the decor is really unique and feels like a genuine attempt to recreate the Irani cafes of the last century. The tables turnover quick, but the staff make an earnest effort to clean quickly and efficiently. While we decided to pass on libations due to a later engagement, they looked to be expertly prepared. Based on my research we decided to order the popular fares - chai, veggie samosas, okra fries, cheese naan, garlic naan, chicken ruby, and the infamous black daal. The food came out quick and piping hot. The chai is by far the best I have ever had, but admittedly the serving size was decently minute for 2.90 pounds. That being said I savored every sip. Next up were the veggie samosas, which were crisped to a perfection with a very enjoyable blend of seasoned pea and potato filling and paired very well with the house sauces. The accompanying okra fries were unreal. So perfectly tasty and the blend of seasoning was out of this world. My only regret is that there wasn't more. In terms of the naans they were super soft and had perfect structure. The garlic naan had enough garlic to be present and pleasant, but not overpowering. In comparison the cheddar naan had subtle hints of cheese, but perhaps could have had a bit more presence. Both of us thoroughly savored the chicken ruby and the description on the menu was an exact match - tender chicken bathed in a silky curry with a perfect blend of spice and flavor. The only crime is that the there were only four small chicken pieces. Lastly, the black daal truly lived up to the notoriety with a perfect consistently that was thick enough for dipping, but not pasty. The cacophony of flavors was truly sensual! All in all I loved this trendy place and for the fact that the owners stand by the quality of their ingredients and authenticity of their institution as a homage to cafes past. Many of their dishes are truly standouts. I only wish the portions were a tad more generous for the price and to have felt like we had a tad more table space as we were very much piled in with other patrons. Should I ever be able to return to London they will be on my itinerary again! read more

Great food and reasonable prices. Nice atmosphere but a bit loud on Thursday and Friday due to the (good) jazz band live music.

Was traveling on business. Had a day that was light so I walked to this restaurant after consulting with Yelp. I was very impressed with the decor, the service and the food. I sampled a couple of their specialties and was very satisfied. Had a lamb/rice dish. Also had a vegetarian dish that was excellent. I will definitely return if in the area. read more

For the last 7 years, every trip to London includes at least 1 dinner (sometimes 3-4) at Dishoom, Kensington. The food is fab, but the attitude of the reception staff is not, there is an element of rudeness that just does not do justice to the overall experience. read more

Delish. Had such a great time on vacation. Would definitely go back. Staff super friendly. Must see.

Dishoom is always always always on my list of places to eat when visiting London. Today like all of the other visits I have made to Dishoom did not disappoint. Since I was dining alone I opted to the Chicken Ruby, Garlic Nann Bread, Basmati Rice and the Butter Buttah - Chicken Ruby and Butter Buttah photo attached. The Chicken Ruby was flavorful and an excellent choice. The Butter Buttah was perfectly cooked and a spicy treat to accompany the curry. I typically have the house Dahl and May have to go back before my trip is over to satisfy the craving. Lauren was my server today and she was impeccable she lead me in all the right directions and was extremely knowledgeable about the menu. I can not recommend Dishoom enough - I recommend making a reservations as wait times can be intense. Go check it out! read more
