I had Directv for a little over 2 years. When I cancelled my service, I made my final payment over the phone with a credit card. A couple weeks later, I received another bill. I was pretty sure I didn't owe anything, but couldn't find a record of my last payment in my checking account. I had completely forgotten about the credit card payment. Long story short, after 8 months, countless lies from Directv, getting my credit card company involved, and siccing the Attorney General's office on them, I finally got my refund. If you already have them and cancel, be sure you have proof you returned the box because they will claim you didn't. If, after reading this and the many other similar horror stories out there, you still sign with them, don't come crying to me when they screw you over. read more

I am giving 1 star because there is not an option for 0 stars. Where do I begin, the awful reception, the numerous interruptions in service, the horrible customer service. Anytime it rains we have no service, the Internet connection goes out constantly and when you complain all they can do is apologize. I recently received an email that they were changing my contract. The contract states that if I don't agree with the changes that I can opt out. When I called to do so they told me that I can opt out bu would have to pay a large fee. This is a crooked operation, don't sign up. read more

I had to cancel my DIRECTV services early in my contract because of getting married and moving. The place where I am moving to does not allow you to have a dish on there property, so unfortunately I had to cancel my services even though I did not want to. DIRECTV was very understanding and did not charge me crazy fees because of this unfortunate inconvenience. Just want to say Thank you to them and this is the type of customer service that will definitely have me switching to AT&T when time to switch my cell service. Thanks again DIRECTV moving is never easy but every little thing helps. G Jones read more

Every time I call Direct TV it is the most frustrating and annoying discussion that I have ever had as a consumer. They have taken advantage of my father, who is a senior citizen. And I am absolutely sure they do it to many others. They provide no details and no clarity after their bills and the timing of rebates and charges make no sense. I would NEVER recommend anyone to change to or select this service. No matter how good the deal looks 'upfront', you will regret it!!! read more

I have had Directv for about 5 years. Recently cancelled and went with SPECTRUM. It seems that Directv was not able to successfully renegotiate with FOXSPTS and as a result no football on Saturday or Sunday this Fall 2017. So I switched. Now here is the kicker. Directv owes me a credit of over $118.00 I cannot get it back until I return my five (5) receivers and they will not send me boxes to send back. Unsatisfactory. If Directv wises to contact me my account # is 76979442. read more

We called to order DirecTV, a week later when the installer showed up (Unfortunately I wasn't home) the installer was going to place the dish on My patio and bring the cable in through the sliding glass door. He decided Just to lay the cable (which was black, he didn't have white) across our dining room floor. And run it over to the living room that way. We would Just have to walk over it!! When my roommate said "that's crazy, you can't do it like that" the installer just left!! When I was told about this I immediately called DirecTV and asked to speak to a supervisor concerning installation I was told someone would call me back in 20 minutes, no one called at all, we even tried to call the installer back and he would not return our calls either. Our account had a notation saying the installer was late, not that he didn't even install it. At this moment. We have no TV, no apoligy. Thanks DirecTV for nothing!!! What a way to run a business!! read more

I have been with DirecTV for 9 years and have loved every minute. A couple of years ago, I called DTV when my job was not giving raises & they reduced my bill by $20/month! They have the best customer service I have ever seen. The customer service staff know what they are talking about (the few times I have called during my 9 years). I had TWC for the previous 2 decades thanks to my ex but sent it off with him and never looked back. This is a 5-Star operation that I would (& do) recommend to anyone. read more

I am emailing with a great bit of dissatisfaction after being a customer for only 6 hours. Today, a Direct TV technician by the name of Casey or K.C. ( he didn't have a name tag on) came to install our satellite service. He was assisted by a young lady named Jennifer. Neither introduced themselves...I had to ask them their names. K.C. hurriedly installed the service, and initially did what was supposed to be done, except that he left all the wires very tackily exposed, didn't bother to switch the modem boards in the master bedroom, just left it on the side of the dresser instead of setting it up properly. Am I under the assumption that we were supposed to put things back in place? It's not okay to leave it sitting beside my TV looking that way. DISH never left our home in shambles like Direct TV did. My expectations are that if he found my TVs neatly and in place, then he was supposed to leave them neatly and in place. I specifically asked him to hook the wires back up for the sound bar that was connected to my TV...he said he would do it, but quickly slipped out without doing it. I called to tell someone that it needed to be connected, and they tried to explain to me, but I have no technical expertise, so it was to no avail. After my husband spoke with Steven tonight (919-373-0882) we really feel as if we don't matter. Steven went as far as to say that it was not Direct TVs responsibility to put things back like they found them, and he was a bit hostile, too. Who does that??? Not to mention...we didn't even get a channel guide with our installation...how slack is that??? read more

I recently purchased Direct TV last week. They installed 2 instead of 3 receivers (genie's). When I called to ask why the third was not installed the customer service ("Rocky") told me that it was ordered as only 2 and that they would have to charge me another $150 to come back out and install the third. He would not transfer me to a supervisor and told me that nothing more could be done. Unbelievable, I am regretting signing with DirectTV if this is the kind of customer service that they give! Wish I had done Dish Network! WARNING to the furture customers, don't expect any help on their end. They couldn't care less if they lose your service! read more

Worst customer service ever!!!! I was a potential new customer who made an appointment, not once, not twice, but three times, to have directv installed in my new home. All three times I waited for them to show up for my CONFIRMED appointments and all 3x they did not show! Each time I called to find out where the tech was and was informed my appointment was postponed to another day and time - all without my knowledge, consent, or even the courtesy of a phone call. So in effect I waited a total of 12 hours when directv had no intent of honoring their commitment to send a tech. Again no reason was ever provided. They could not explain why but just apologized lamely and would not budge on keeping their comitment. This is the epitome of CUSTOMER NO SERVICE! Shame on Directv. I called Dish Network and the tech was at my house the next morning at 8 AM, and on a Sunday no less! Dish was glad to have me and claimed they get a lot of their business from jilted Directv customers. DN's customer service is nothing less than superb!!! read more

Direct TV is one of the worst providers I've ever dealt with. Over the last month my service has been out approximately 60 hours. I called DTV to schedule an appointment for a technician to come out, planned the time away from work. The day before my appointment I received a call from their automated system saying that the problem in my area had been resolve and asked if my service was working. When I stated that it was not, the system proceeded to re-schedule my appointment for a different day. I called DTV to make them aware of the problem. They refused to recify the issue. Needless to say, I couldn't change my time off. Service still goes out for a minimum of 5 hours each time it rains. I'm leaving DTV - they suck! read more

My 9/13/17 online chat to cancel service. Marlon P: Thank you for waiting, Leo, I can see you want to cancel your Directv account, am I right? Me: Yes Marlon P: Sure I can help with that. To better assist you and provide you with the best options, I need you to please answer a few question. Can you please provide me your Directv account number or phone number? Me: 919-xxx-xxxx Marlon P: Thank you, Leo . Please allow me a moment, while I'm accessing your account. Meanwhile do you know an easy away to get information about your Directv equipment ? Visit directv.com and on search bar you can look for this information! Marlon P: Thank you for waiting, Leo, may I know why you want to cancel your Directv account? Me: I have talked to 4 people about it already. I do not want to start over. Just cancel it. Me: You messed up my bill. I called and asked to fix it or I will cancel and get DISH TV. They didn't fix it. So I am cencelling. Marlon P: I understand, Leo, I just want to let you know I'm here to help you, please tell me is there anything I can do for you stay with us? Me: Keep my bill at the original $66 for 2 years and throw in the current season of NFL ticket for free and I will stay. Marlon P: Let me please do my best to get you the best credits and promotions for you Marlon P: Please hold on. Marlon P: Thank you for waiting, Leo, I've reviewed all the promotions and credits available and actually at this time there are no promotions and credits available, actually we advise you is to keep in touch with us. we'll soon have more credit and promotions available for you!, Leo. Me: You took away the credits we agreed to for 2 years. Just cancel it all today. You've lost a customer and as many friends as I can tell for life. Marlon P: We're really sorry for this inconvenience, Leo Marlon P: I really want to assist you with your account cancellation request, in this case there's a requirement from my system you need to pay the past amount due which is for $71.12, Leo. Me: That $71.12 was an error and the reason this all started. I will pay a corrected and revised, prorated bill when the service is cancelled and the amount is correct. Marlon P: Leo, may I know why do you say the $71.12 amount is an error? Me: Ask the 4 other people I've talked to. Marlon P: Please explain to me, Leo. Me: Look at July. It was $66.34. In August it went up to $71.12 because you took away a $4 credit that originally appeared in January or Februaury to offset your base cost increase from $104 to $108. That $4 credit kept my proice at the original $66.34 we agreed to last year for 24 months. Now it went up to $110 and I was told it was because I wouldn't get another AT&T service to keep my discount which was never part of the original deal. Please cancel and send me a corrected and prorated bill. Me: Or you can just clear the entire $71 and try to do the right thing after all this time I've wasted. Marlon P: I understand, Leo, in this case was removed the credit Marlon P: I'm sorry for this inconvenience, I'm afraid, Leo, for me to be able to cancel your Directv account, I need you to please pay the $71.12 as a system requirement to cancel your account. Me: Then please find someone who can do better. I am not going to pay the $71.12 billed in error because of some game Direct TV plays with their credits and discounts. My agreement was for $66.34. Marlon P: Please hold on, I'll ask my support team in regards to it. Marlon P: Leon, thank you for waiting, I've asked to my supervisor and support team and I'm afraid in this case you'd need to pay the $71.12 amount Marlon P: For me to be able to cancel your Directv account. Me: Paid. Now cancel it. Marlon P: Thank you, Leo, please hold on. Marlon P: When do you want to stop receiving Directv service? Leo. Me: August 22 2017 when I first called about this billing problem and was told I would get a call back that evening, which I never did. Marlon P: I apologize for the call you never received Marlon P: Leo, Marlon P: What did the representative tell you? Me: Seriously? They said they would ask a supervisor who was busy and call me back within 30 minutes. Marlon P: Please hold on, I'll review more information about it. Marlon P: Leo, I've reviewed previous documentation, I'm afraid I didn't find any information from Aug 22nd, the most recent interaction on my system was on Sept 13th and on January 31st. Marlon P: I apologize for any wrong information you may have received. Me: I called 800-531-5000 at 5:14pm and was on the phone 11 minutes. Marlon P: I understand, Leo, and I'm sorry for this inconvenience. Me: An apology usually comes with a way to fix whatever it is you are sorry for. Marlon P: I understand what you mean, Leo, but in this case I didn't find information about the interaction on Aug 22nd AT&T: and I need documentation for being able to do it, Leo Me: That's not my problem. I have proof of the date, time and duration of the call. To be continued.... It get's worse! read more

DON'T DO IT!!! During install tech left without everything working saying the other channels would eventually come in. They didn't. Waited for internet install people to show up for 4 hours. Didn't happen. Was told the Directv people didn't submit the internet install request correctly. Contacted DTV to come back out and fix their install. Waited 4 hrs and they never showed up, never called. Called them back again and scheduled again between 4-8pm. Get a call on the scheduled day at 2:00pm. Told by tech he's in area now and it has to be done now. I had to drop what I was doing at work because tech refused to honor the scheduled time. Then comes getting the bill fixed because they started charging me a week before the service even worked. Multiple calls. Constantly being passed around. Its been 3 months and the bill is still wrong PLUS they are adding $15 late fees per month on the amount they keep telling me will be adjusted off. NOW comes picture quality ... WHEN it's actually working and not giving errors and when it's not pixelating and freezing up, it works fine. Problem is it pixelates very often (daily). It also takes forever to reboot if power goes out. In addition, it's constantly disconnecting from the internet. I get at least one message every few days saying to reboot the box. You would think with all these reception issues that I live in some obscure area but that would be wrong. I live smack dab in the middle of a large suburb. I laugh at their commercial saying how great they are and how cable is antiquated because their product, customer service and follow through are HORRID!!! Now I'm just counting the days until my contract is over and I can dump them. NEVER AGAIN! read more

I am in the market for changing TV & Internet suppliers and went to the website of direct TV. I have never seen a more confusing system in my life. They have multiple websites ( Direct TV, Direct TV Save and ATT). each site I visited had different prices for the same product. TV for one package varied from $39 to $60. The rewards cards varied from $100-$200-$300 based on which website you were on. I called and was told that's the way is. Not a great way to run a communication business. read more

Absolutely the WORST company I have ever dealt with. Last November our DVR broke. They brought us a new one and unbeknownst to me signed us up for a new 2 year agreement. We are now moving and they are requiring us to pay an over 300$ fee to cancel the service. This is after we've been customers in good standing for over 4 years. I will never, NEVER use them ever again. Oh, and I love the channels they have, they're way better than TWC. The customer service is just so horrible. read more

DirecTV has provided me with one of the very worst consumer experiences I have ever had. While their in-house TV service is OK, their mobile viewing product is absolutely MISERABLE. They call it GenieGo. It rarely works. I have spent well over 80 hours of time troubleshooting issues to try to get video to a desktop computer or to an iPad. I can stream any number of other video services without any problems at all, but not GenieGo. Their technical help is anything but help. I am counting down the days until my contract expires. I will NEVER use DIRECTV again. EVER. read more

IF YOU ARE THINKING OF SWITCHING TO DIRECT TV, BE PREPARED FOR A TERRIBLE CALL WITH THE SALES DEPARTMENT. I'm really incensed after a 30-minute call with some guy (he never gave his name) in sales. I called to investigate the bundles they were offering in my area. he spent the first 20 minutes rambling on about how great my "special promo code" was and all that it could give me. I'm in sales too, so I know how this whole rigmarole goes but i thought i'd give him a shot to see if he wowed me. all i wanted to hear was price and whether it was cheaper than Comcast. After telling me 1,000 different ways how it was better than Comcast, i asked for him to just give me the price. he said he'd have to run a credit check to quote me the accurate price. I told him I was reluctant, I take my credit score seriously and I didn't want a hit on it to make it go down again. He said it would show the same as a power company, so i reluctantly agree (if that's not right when i look at my credit report next month, i'm asking for a corporate number to bitch at). He finally gave me a price, then told me that the internet service would be separate and would come from Verizon DSL (not Fios) which I doubt is any faster than Comcast anyway. It'd be another $49.99 per month. So again he re-states the whole shpeel he just gave me. If he had told me the internet setup earlier, I would not have even gone through with the credit check. But he hid the 8-ball, so i got defensive. He kept telling me that my promo code was about to expire (i looked online, it doesn't expire until 7/31) and that i had to act now. I asked if he could email me everything he just told me so i could take to my roommates to discuss it. At this point, i was really thinking about it. i wanted to have his contact info so that if we decided yes, I could call him back and give him the sale. However, reality is, I'm renting; I have no idea where I'll be a year from now, so signing a 2-year agreement is not at the top of my list. He told me he could email it to me, but that would require me to give him my credit card number to hold the offer. Absolutely not. I tried to politely get off the phone. I thanked him for his effort and time but I am not interested in giving that information. I told him I have to go and he put me on hold. He came back and said he checked with his supervisor, then babbles on again about how I'm going to lose this deal - the same information he's already given me, nothing new. He just keeps repeating himself. I tried politely to get off the phone 3 times. The 4th time I wasn't so polite. I told him I am in sales too, I understand what he's trying to do and why, I know he's been trained, but at this point he is pushing, and took it to a point of offending me by presuming to know things about my situation or why I was making this choice. At this point I'd had enough of the entire company. I said no more, goodnight, and hung up the phone on him. That was enough to never make me think about contacting DirecTv again. read more

Don't believe anything a Directv rep tells you when calling to sign up. I was offered an additional $300.00 reward if I would commit that day. It was in addition to the Winback reward of $200.00. Of course, I did not get the additional $300.00. I have spent over one hour on the phone trying to inquire about this. I talked to 7 different people. They kept transferring from one department to another. I had DirectTV for over 2.5 years and I would have to say that the quality of service is not as good as cable. With rain/thunderstorms, you can count on signal problems butI can live with that. What I can't live with is the lies from the customer service department. I have called them on numerous occasions regarding renewing my contract in the last year and would get one price on the phone and another when I get my bill. So I would have to call in again to see what was up and receive yet another lie. I know their game of going directly to the retention department to get any kind of deals and have been met with lie after lie. Directv - would be five stars if not for some sleazy price changes and poor customer service. Basically - wound up paying 85 dollars a month for service that was supposed to be $45 - what a great deal! When I called customer service about it, they insisted that I was stupid for not knowing that I needed to send in a rebate (even though online it said the rebate was "instant") and told me there was absolutely nothing they could do to rectify the situation. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!! After 19 years of service, we relocated to a new state. Unfortunately, after having a technician come to set up a dish at our new home, we were unable to continue service with Directv, as there was no clear path for a dish to be placed. Not only would directv not reimburse a pro-rated amount from the day we were told we could no longer use directv with our new home, but they continued to automatically withdraw future payments and are only willing to reimburse 1/2 of the payments charged after the account was canceled. FOUR months later, still spending several hours on the phone with customer service, supervisors hanging up on us, etc., we have yet to be reimbursed a penny. Direct TV has made over $50,000 from us over the last 19 years and refuse to reimburse $338 that was automatically charged AFTER service was discontinued! NO customer loyalty or appreciation! We will NEVER switch back to Directv again! read more

After reaching a boiling with TimeWarner, I decided to give the Directv Genie a try and after my first few days with the service I am thoroughly impressed. I called support right after signing up with a rep at local store to make sure everything I was being offered was accurate as far as rates and equipment goes and I actually ended saving a little more during the call. The install went well as I had ran an extra coax feed to one TV to avoid having to deal the installer running it. The dish was able to be located on my roof out of sight from practically all views of my home. The total time for my install as less than two hours. Going with four stars for now until I get a long term feel for the service. So far so good. read more

Unless you plan on doubling your bill for worthless TV and slow internet, do not use Direct TV and CenturyLink. It looks great and all the discounts make sense, but after 12 months both companies practically double your bill. For example, I started off paying about $55 for Direct TV and $35 for CenturyLink internet. Not bad for the package and it made sense since Suddenlink charged the same price for less channels and slower internet. At the 12-month anniversary my cable jumped to $105 and internet to $70 - and no, this was the basic package for internet and the select package for cable. Even after talking with the loyalty program, I still pay $87 for the entertainment package - which is crap. No chance I'm wasting money on the internet service which is also crap. My recommendation - stay with Suddenlink or Time Warner. If you choose Direct TV and CenturyLink, read the fine print (contract for 2 years, discounts only for 1 year). read more

I had a receiver break, I called direct tv and spoke to a nice young lady. The problem was I kept hitting One for English, to no avail. After twenty minutes of me saying can you repeat this and that we came to a understanding I was getting a new receiver, and low and behold it was at my house in two days. I also noticed my Direct tv bill went up twenty bucks. They charged me for the receiver. So I called and again I pressed 1 for English. I was told in very broken English that they sorry for not telling me the first time. It's all good. Now here's the good news. If you are tired of Direct tv and want to change, before you do, call Direct tv and when the recorded message asks what you want to do, say CANCEL, The recorded message will say are you moving or do you want to cancel. You say cancel, now they move you to what is called Retention, I've called them three times already, First time, got NFL package for 99 bucks, that package goes for about $360 bucks. next time I did the retention thing I got my bill lowered by 40 bucks a month, plus Cinemax for six month free and all fox sports channels. When I referred a friend to get the $10.00/ month rebate, it was never credited. Despite all that, I stuck to it. But when it rains 20 miles away and I do not receive service, then I have to say screw it. My contract was up months ago. They can pick up their own equipment, or I will sell it for scrap metal. I am under no illusion that TWC will be better, but at least I have the satisfaction of saying NO to directv. When can we get some competition here? read more

Definitely NOT recommending DirecTV. Have only had the service since the end of October and "have" is a very relative term. I HAVE PAID for it, but have NOT had reliable service. Have frequently been without service or had channels missing. Have been treated rudely by staff, and now by the time service comes will have gone AGAIN for almost 2 weeks without numerous channels. And, for this privilege I had to make repeated calls to get service and got put on long holds, to include one after I finally got to a tech, for over 15 minutes by a tech who said his "computer connection was messing up" and he would call me back in "3 minutes" and NEVER called me back. I had to go back through the auto-message-transfer nightmare AGAIN. Should have been a huge clue to me when the day of the install the guys arrived way late and left without programming all the rooms. @DirecTV read more

The service is great, even when there is a storm it is stil OK. I also REALLY like how I can change my package daily of I so choose. Also, the customer srvice has been very good so far. The reason for so fews stars is--like most people's have said--the sales people absolutely lie to you--and I do mean lie. I was told by the sales associate they would reduce my rate at the one year mark. The other part is that you have to do a 2 year contract; be prepared for about a 40% increase at the 1 year anniversary and despite what even the "sales manager " promise you, your bill will increase a lot. If you complain they give you 3 free months of HBO...I've had about 9 months of free HBO so far... read more
