Ding Tea is a franchise with multiple locations across San Diego and this one is pretty on par with the others. It is always easy to order here. They stay open late, have ample parking, the space is clean, and the staff is friendly. They mainly operate with a kiosk ordering system, though I am sure you can order with an employee at the register if needed. The menu is displayed on a TV near the kiosk which makes it easy to find a drink. There are a few specials laid out on the register counter that make that area look a little cluttered. Maybe a bulletin board for those specials would make the space feel less busy, but it did not take away from my experience. After ordering we sat at one of the tables. There is a mix of high top seating and regular tables. I stayed here for about two hours to catch up on getting work done and there was still plenty of seating available. This was on a Tuesday from about 1 to 3 PM. I ordered the Green Tea with Cheese Foam, Golden Boba, 75 percent sweet, and less ice. My husband ordered the Aloe Vera Peach Juice with 75 percent sweet and half ice. We both ordered large drinks. There was no signage about WiFi and I did not see other reviews mentioning it either, so we asked. Luckily the staff gave us the WiFi password which makes this a nice option for studying or getting work done. Our drinks came out pretty quickly. My green tea drink was a little bitter which usually means the tea may have been steeped a bit too long. With the lower sugar level it made the drink taste closer to a 25 percent sweetness level. The boba was chewy like usual but lacked sweetness and flavor, which is pretty typical for Ding Tea. The cheese foam tasted really good but the texture was strange. I occasionally got little chunky bits through the straw that felt like curdled cheese. It was definitely an interesting texture moment. Luckily I am not super sensitive to textures or it might have ruined the drink. Overall my drink was about a 6 out of 10. The Aloe Vera Peach Juice was surprisingly really good. It had a nice peach flavor mixed with that classic aloe vera juice taste you get from bottled aloe drinks. It also came with aloe pulp pieces which worked like a topping. It was refreshing and perfectly sweet. There are not many other boba spots in the surrounding area so competition is limited, but Ding Tea still offers a solid selection of drinks and satisfies the boba craving. Been to a different Ding tea before but this was the first time at this location. We had the taro mix burnt cream milk tea. I liked the real taro in it, much better than taro flavoring alone. I thought the drink overall was okay. I think a bit more taro mixed into the milk would've made it better because all the taro was only lined on the inside of the cup so you had to use the straw to scrape it off and when you did scrape it off - I felt it would've been better with more of it. The speed of receiving your drinks depends on how busy they are. But I usually come when they are not busy. Inside there are a few tables. This place has really gone down hill. I walked up to the register -- the table on the clients side was dirty. I looked around the room and the floor was also dirty -- needs a good sweep. The wall to the left, closest to the ceiling is dirty -- something to do with the vent because the opening with covered with grey stuff as well. I've been going to this location for awhile and the staff is always changing but I always get the same drinks. On my recent visit, the staff weren't welcoming and a little rude. She said the drinks we wanted were not on the menu but it clearly was on the big screen they have. When I tell you that this is a must place, I am saying it seriously! Ding Tea is about 6 minutes away from SDSU and as students from there, it's awesome to be able to get some easy boba. It was a really hot day so I stuck with normal ice, half (50%) sweet, no boba. For my mom, I got her oolong milk tea, normal ice, slight (30%) sweet, no boba. It's normally a hit or miss on the 25% versus 50% sweet but better than full on sweet. My mom's tasted perfect to our liking. Mine was just a tad bit sweet but not enough where I would have to dilute it with water. The best part is that you could taste the tea aromas in both. I love that you can control ice and sugar level. While it's nice to see more boba options in the area other than Tapioca Express, I feel like Ding Tea is decent, but still not the best offering in the area. The first thing that it really has going for it is the location. It's right next door to Panda Express and the newly-opened Lee's Sandwiches. Panda only has soft drinks and Lee's only has coffee beverages, so hopping over to Ding Tea for boba first seems like the natural order of operations. It's certainly convenient and seems to be popular. However, there are a lot of hidden costs that makes everything feel very expensive for the value. The price on the menu is for basic tea without any toppings (including boba). Each topping is 95¢, which is significantly more expensive than the typical 50¢ at other boba places. Upgrading to a large for 75¢ extra gets you a 24 oz beverage. I paid more than $7 for a large guava green tea with boba. Tea, ice, and boba is as basic as basic gets. At another boba shop in the area, I paid $6.25 for a large specialty boba beverage that included two toppings before I added boba for 50¢. Same size, nearly $1 cheaper. The basic tea, ice, and boba that I got at Ding Tea would have been $4.75 and the boba was better. What sank this review down to a 1-star, however, was a nasty discovery I made once I finished my tea. While I only ordered one topping, I received a bonus topping: a peach pit! That's right! I ordered a guava tea and got a peach pit at the bottom of my cup. I don't know where it came from or why it was in my cup, but I'm pretty grossed out and I think that might be my last time at Ding Tea. I wish I had better things to say. If it hadn't been for the peach pit, I'd say that this place is decent if a bit overpriced... but the peach pit was too gross for me to ignore. read more

I've been coming here ever since it opened as it's closer to my house than the boba places by SDSU and better quality drinks. My favorites are the Winter Melon Milk Tea and Hazelnut Milk Tea with boba. Their Yakult drinks are also great, but doesn't hit the same as milk teas do. This was my first time at Ding Tea and the cashier recommended the Monster Boba Latte. I adjusted my drink to have no ice and 50% sweetness, but the drink was still VERY sweet. I normally get 50% sweetness at other boba places, but if I were to go again, I'd get 0% sweetness (is that even a thing lol). The boba was subpar. It wasn't very warm or soft, but maybe that's because I went around 10:30 when they were just about to close. Ding Tea is a convenient location from SDSU, but I probably wouldn't come again unless I had no other option. Never have I ever had a staff member get upset with me for asking for water after a 3 mile run. I was very respectful, asked kindly for some water. Gave me immediate attitude, cussed my friend out for asking for more water because she didn't get him any, and yelled "WHAT ARE YOU STILL STANDING THERE FOR?! This is based on today's (Friday 4/17/2020) review: I just picked up two drinks from Ding Tea: 1) Jasmine Green Milk Tea (75% sweet); and 2) Wintermelon Milk Tea (50% sweet). I'm very disappointed in both drinks. The Jasmine GMT tastes like water! It's as if there's no tea nor sugar in the drink... it was terrible! My boyfriend got the Wintermelon MT so I switched my drink with his. The Wintermelon MT is a little bit better than the Jasmine GMT, but that's not saying much.. it tastes like milk with sugar. In addition, the wait time was longer than expected. There were 2 other customers in the shop before me and we all seemed to be waiting pretty long for our drinks.
