I got a large green tea and added cheese foam, crystal boba and grass jelly. 25% sweetness and 50% ice. My drink came out to almost $10 which is kind of crazy. That being said it did taste good. I could have used a little stronger tea flavor but it wasn't bitter at least. Not overly sweet. When I first picked up my order they forgot to add the cheese foam. Horrible, the hours stated says they're open @11 am but the staff opened the store at 11:12am. There were 3 parties that left while I was waiting with my party to get in. I will not be returning to this establishment. Unfortunately, it seemed like there was only 1 older staff member working and he seemed to be struggling. If that's the case, there should have been another staff member present to help him open the shop today for efficiency purposes. I have never experienced this encounter before and others who left informed me this boba shop ALWAYS opens late which is surprising to me because in the past they would ALWAYS open on time. Ding Tea is a franchise with multiple locations across San Diego and this one is pretty on par with the others. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It is always easy to order here. They stay open late, have ample parking, the space is clean, and the staff is friendly.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They mainly operate with a kiosk ordering system, though I am sure you can order with an employee at the register if needed. The menu is displayed on a TV near the kiosk which makes it easy to find a drink. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There are a few specials laid out on the register counter that make that area look a little cluttered. Maybe a bulletin board for those specials would make the space feel less busy, but it did not take away from my experience.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]After ordering we sat at one of the tables. There is a mix of high top seating and regular tables. My green tea drink was a little bitter which usually means the tea may have been steeped a bit too long. With the lower sugar level it made the drink taste closer to a 25 percent sweetness level. The boba was chewy like usual but lacked sweetness and flavor, which is pretty typical for Ding Tea. The cheese foam tasted really good but the texture was strange. I occasionally got little chunky bits through the straw that felt like curdled cheese. It was definitely an interesting texture moment. Luckily I am not super sensitive to textures or it might have ruined the drink. Overall my drink was about a 6 out of 10. The Aloe Vera Peach Juice was surprisingly really good. It had a nice peach flavor mixed with that classic aloe vera juice taste you get from bottled aloe drinks. It also came with aloe pulp pieces which worked like a topping. It was refreshing and perfectly sweet. There are not many other boba spots in the surrounding area so competition is limited, but Ding Tea still offers a solid selection of drinks and satisfies the boba craving. I thought the drink overall was okay. I had Ding Tea in Asia, but never in the US until now, neither a location in San Diego, finally after 3 years seeing them popping up left and right, I stopped at this one to try out their tea, I guess their regular milk tea was just like a lot of reviews said, a bit bland and water down, but their brown sugar monster was a bit better, and I really like their boba toppings, not sticky or chewy at all. She said the drinks we wanted were not on the menu but it clearly was on the big screen they have. I usually get regular milk tea, winter melon milk tea, or Hokkaido milk tea. Got winter melon this time and was so good! Winter melon is a fruit, almost gives off that cucumber, earthy herbal taste. It was a really hot day so I stuck with normal ice, half (50%) sweet, no boba. For my mom, I got her oolong milk tea, normal ice, slight (30%) sweet, no boba. It's normally a hit or miss on the 25% versus 50% sweet but better than full on sweet. My mom's tasted perfect to our liking. While it's nice to see more boba options in the area other than Tapioca Express, I feel like Ding Tea is decent, but still not the best offering in the area. The first thing that it really has going for it is the location. It's right next door to Panda Express and the newly-opened Lee's Sandwiches. Panda only has soft drinks and Lee's only has coffee beverages, so hopping over to Ding Tea for boba first seems like the natural order of operations. It's certainly convenient and seems to be popular. However, there are a lot of hidden costs that makes everything feel very expensive for the value. The price on the menu is for basic tea without any toppings (including boba). Each topping is 95¢, which is significantly more expensive than the typical 50¢ at other boba places. Upgrading to a large for 75¢ extra gets you a 24 oz beverage. I paid more than $7 for a large guava green tea with boba. Tea, ice, and boba is as basic as basic gets. At another boba shop in the area, I paid $6.25 for a large specialty boba beverage that included two toppings before I added boba for 50¢. Same size, nearly $1 cheaper. The basic tea, ice, and boba that I got at Ding Tea would have been $4.75 and the boba was better. What sank this review down to a 1-star, however, was a nasty discovery I made once I finished my tea. While I only ordered one topping, I received a bonus topping: a peach pit! That's right! I ordered a guava tea and got a peach pit at the bottom of my cup. I don't know where it came from or why it was in my cup, but I'm pretty grossed out and I think that might be my last time at Ding Tea. I wish I had better things to say. If it hadn't been for the peach pit, I'd say that this place is decent if a bit overpriced... but the peach pit was too gross for me to ignore. read more

My favorites are the Winter Melon Milk Tea and Hazelnut Milk Tea with boba. Their Yakult drinks are also great, but doesn't hit the same as milk teas do. This was my first time at Ding Tea and the cashier recommended the Monster Boba Latte. I adjusted my drink to have no ice and 50% sweetness, but the drink was still VERY sweet. I normally get 50% sweetness at other boba places, but if I were to go again, I'd get 0% sweetness (is that even a thing lol). The boba was subpar. It wasn't very warm or soft, but maybe that's because I went around 10:30 when they were just about to close. This is based on today's (Friday 4/17/2020) review: I just picked up two drinks from Ding Tea: 1) Jasmine Green Milk Tea (75% sweet); and 2) Wintermelon Milk Tea (50% sweet). I'm very disappointed in both drinks. The Jasmine GMT tastes like water! It's as if there's no tea nor sugar in the drink... it was terrible! My boyfriend got the Wintermelon MT so I switched my drink with his. The Wintermelon MT is a little bit better than the Jasmine GMT, but that's not saying much.. it tastes like milk with sugar. In addition, the wait time was longer than expected. There were 2 other customers in the shop before me and we all seemed to be waiting pretty long for our drinks. I would always see long lines in this place whenever I buy food at Panda Express, so one afternoon, I asked my husband to have a boba date with me here. To be honest, I was nervous if it will taste good, because my husband only trusts 1 store when it comes to boba tea. Gladly, this place didn't disappoint us! Ordered Wintermelon Milktea with pearls, it was tasty and sweet, it's unlike other milktea that all you can taste is sugar and milk. It's not too creamy, so that worked well for us. The pearls are perfectly cooked too, doesn't stick together and is not hard to chew. There are few table and chairs where you can stay to study or hangout with friends, family and even dogs!
