3-4 stars. I wouldn't say it's particularly charming as the interior was quite dark and the front of the space was riddled with AI posters of drinks. Compared to the name of the spot, the interior felt like it belonged to a night time sushi spot. I'm not sure if they are allowed to repaint the interior, but changing the black/dark blue walls to something more bright would open up the space a little more-- it is a small place, but felt even smaller with the design choice. The menu was organized, but it seems like they were out of a few items in the morning as they didn't have mini pearls--only regular. And for some reason, you couldn't change the sweetness level on the drink...or maybe it just related to the drink I chose? Not sure, it was my first time there. The worker was nice & patient. Although for not having many people in the shop, I hope they could take the time to perfect their boba. It was VERY clumpy and not good-- texturally and taste wise. It didn't have that rich brown sugar taste and it was very gooey and chewy (not in a good way). They did give a good amount of boba, but I feel most people would toss it out because of the bad quality. Which would be a waste of money. To drink, I chose the Hokkaido Milk Tea with Pearls. I wanted to do 50 or 75% sweet but I guess since this is a caramel noted milk tea, it isn't possible. I think the tea was ok. I would order something else next time. My friend had the Okinawa Milk Tea with Pearls, I'm unsure if they asked for a certain sweetness level or not. They said the tea was good, but the pearls weren't good. Something to note, I charged the drinks on my card and rather than saying Sayaka Tea, it said Sharetea...interesting. I wonder if they rebranded themselves or ?? Each drinks were around ~$7-8 ish! I'll give them another try, I hope the boba will be better the next time around and I'll be allowed to change the sweetness. I want to start by saying I was surprised by how the business owner has been responding to reviews. I understand negative feedback can be frustrating, but it's still feedback and shouldn't be taken so personally. Some of the responses came off more defensive than professional, which honestly impacted my overall impression. I was originally going to give 4 stars, but ended up taking two away because of this. It just made me question supporting a business that handles feedback that way. I remember coming to this location when I first started at SDSU. It used to be a ShareTea and they seem to still carry a very similar menu. We got lucky with street parking closest to the storefront. Inside felt clean and comfortable, and I even mentioned to my husband that I could see myself coming here more often to study. The worker was super sweet and welcoming. She was working alone but still managed to be attentive to us and also to third party delivery drivers coming in. Sayaka Tea offers a range of drinks like milk teas, fruit teas, ice blends, and specialty drinks. I also noticed some seasonal drinks like Valentine's Day specials still being advertised, so I'm not sure if they're still offered. They also have a 10% discount if you check in on Yelp, which is a nice touch. After ordering, we sat down and waited no more than 5 minutes for both drinks. We got an Oreo Ice Blend with pearl and a mango green milk tea with pearl, both at 80% sweetness. The Oreo Ice Blend was still pretty sweet, so I would ask for less sugar next time. It also had a slight coconut-like aftertaste which threw me off. It leaned more cookies and cream than Oreo, which if you know you know. The boba was alright, a little mushy and lacking that bouncy, chewy texture, probably not the freshest batch. My mango green milk tea was really good. There were chunks of mango mixed in with the drink alongside the boba, which made it feel like they use a real fruit puree or jam. The green milk tea had light floral notes with a creamy base that balanced everything well. I would definitely come back for this drink, just with a different topping. Overall, my experience inside was great, which makes this more disappointing. I do want to come back, but the way the owner responds to customers does make me hesitant to support this location. read more

Solid beverages - they have quite a few fruit teas to choose from; we tried the Hawaiian (pineapple orange grapefruit) and peach kiwi. 50 percent sugar for the teas was plenty sweet - the jelly toppings were very sweet on their own. I would avoid the 100 percent sugar option altogether. read more

Stopped by this morning to try out their milk tea and asked the cashier for a recommendation with a strong tea flavor. She suggested the classic black milk tea, at 50% sweet. The drink was decent, but I was hoping for a bolder, more pronounced tea taste. It felt a little underwhelming. However, the boba texture was pretty good, nice and chewy. Their menu somewhat reminds me of ShareTea's menu. What stood out was the excellent service. I went straight to try the Ube Coffee (I'm obsessed with ube coffee) and it did not disappoint. It is delicious!! I'll be back for more for sure!! You have the option to ask for the ice quantity and sweetness level which I thought was great for the ones we like having those sugary treats but high levels of sugar is still a concern. The menu's are the exact same which creeps me out, not sure if these businesses collided or if it was a whole new rebrand. The drinks are awful, powdery, sugary, you can easily taste the artificial flavouring. Service is awful, the workers look like they are in horrible working labor conditions, and the place is small, and kind of odd feeling. The place itself though is clean. No parking, besides putting your hazards on in the streets. Wouldn't recommend anyone come to this place. It was low quality and inconvenience on a place. If you're going to insult me please learn to speak English first. It's difficult to understand BUT I didn't get a refund and I should have. It's embarrassing to take someone out for a drink and be served a drink that tastes like old refrigerator with all chopped up boba. As PER my previous review this place is NOT it. I am a Boba connoisseur as I am half Chinese/Hawaiian and have tried pretty much every boba shop in SD. But you wouldn't have to be a pro to know your boba is foul tasting and your drinks are gross and your shop is dimly lit and over cluttered with boxes everywhere. I got an iced matcha latte 50% sweet. It was the sweetest thing I've ever had even at 100% sweet. I couldn't finish it. I forced myself to get through half and was sad to throw away the rest. My friend's drink was also 50% sweet but also thought it was way too sweet. It's really unfortunate because the shop worker was really nice and made small conversation with us. The roasted brown sugar flavor was very good, but a little on the sweeter side than I would of hoped. The milk tea cost $6 and some change. I keep passing by wanting to try, and I finally do it was meh tbh. I was craving matcha, so I ordered the strawberry matcha. It was not good. The matcha tasted like grassy clay, and the strawberry tasted too sweet and syrupy. The service was nice. The cashier was hard to understand both ways because of his accent and the noise level, not an issue. He was nice and helpful. The inside is bigger than it looks from the outside. The register is right where the door is so it was hard to look at the menu while waiting in line. I had to maneuver around the people in front of me to see the menu. I saw once an ad on instagram before about this boba shop, and about a month ago I went here to try the boba here and turned out it's really good though a bit far from where I live but it's worth the time and gas. While visiting a new restaurant on this block of El Cajon Blvd in the Rolando neighborhood, I noticed that the former Sharetea in the mixed development complex (The Rive) across the street had changed to Sayaka Tea. I learned later that the owners have remained the same, but they divested themselves from the large chain franchise. A banner above the entrance advertised a special of 'Buy One Get One Free Milk Tea'. That was enough for me to check out this spot. The inside of the suite was fairly spacious with several tables available for seating. The menu screens had a reasonable number of offerings across fruit teas, milk teas, fresh milk, brewed teas, signature tea mojitos, and ice blended drinks. Like some other bubble tea shops, a list of the top ten drinks were shown on a separate screen. For the promotion, I purchased a Mango & Passion Fruit Tea and received a free Classic Milk Black Tea. Boba pearls were added to each one. The pearls were clumped on the bottom of the cups and could have used additional boiling time to soften them more. The fruit tea was really sweet for a 100% normal level. Because I was taking the drinks to-go, I didn't have the opportunity to sample them before leaving the store. I probably would have asked for an adjustment to be made to the Mango & Passion Fruit Tea. Compared to the competition, I rated my experience at a three star level as some improvements need to be made to the products I tried at Sayaka Tea. read more

Saw this place when I was getting breakfast near by and tried it out. It was nice and cool and there was plenty of seating which was nice because it was a hot say out! Rose took our order and she was very nice. They also have free parking, which we didn't know about but now we know for next time, since street parking is limited. We got the milk tea with boba and taro ice blended with boba. The drinks kind of tasted like they use soy milk as their milk, which is okay once I mentally prepared for that.
