Iced coffee
Mya T.

This place has been in my coffee shop try list for a couple of months now and since I wasn't too far from it today I decided to finally give it a try. The guy working there was very nice and even though I didn't see a menu I asked the guy what he had. He asked me how I usually like my coffee and I told him I like to taste the coffee with a hint of sweetness and cream and over ice. He made it right away and I saw some finger foods in the front and as a lover of East African food, I decided to try the sambusa. It's a very cozy spot with seating inside and some outside and lots of art. The coffee was spot on as to what I usually like and the sambusa was filling with the coffee. I look forward to coming back and supporting this business.

I've passed by this little coffee a few times last week and it kept me wondering hmmmm I wonder how Ethiopian coffee tastes so today I was in the area again and I said fuck it lets see what it's all about. Came into the shop idk if it was the owners or just friends or customers but they were hanging out inside the shop and outside and everyone was so dam friendly !! Yohed is such a gentle soul ! He asked how I wanted my coffee and I told him I like extra sweet but this time I wanted it sweet but I wanted to taste the actual coffee and omg I was mind blown it's bomb !! It's so cool because I've never ever in my life tried Ethiopian coffee and it's so far in Africa for us to have locally is simply just awesome. His shop is super clean spacious and beautiful to look at while he makes your coffee for you. I loved it I will be back if ever in the area :) 5 stars Yohed thank you for your hospitality I felt so welcomed

Lentil Samosas & Macchiato

I think, this is the first Ethiopian coffee shop I have been to, and I am sure glad I did visit it, because they not only make some terrific Ethiopian coffee but some nice eats as well. The owners are a nice Ethiopian couple. This coffee shop is their baby, and I can tell because the lady of the house is sure putting a lot of love into these lentil filled samosas she makes. They are delicious and offer a great texture. The lentils inside are simply prepared, but well prepared with a light natural seasoning. The crust is light and crisp and seasoned with a touch of salt. The gentleman of the house, made me the macchiato and it was quite good. It was quite robust and the Ethiopian brew was strong but smooth and full flavored. The coffee shop offers sandwiches, pasties, and of course the lentil samosas which are going to be a hit. They have a collection of seating inside and free Wi-Fi. Great little coffee shop!

Stopped by on my way to pick up banh mi's @ Saigon across the street. Not bad, they roast their beans dark, so if you like that for your coffee you'll like this place.

Iced vanilla latte

Came across this place this week and man, I've been missing out. Yohed is so great! Ordered a iced vanilla latte. It was strong and not so much on the sweet side, just the way I like it. Plus you can't beat their prices! Workers are very friendly and family owned business oriented. Absolutely loved the art found throughout the hole in the wall coffee shop, very rich in culture.

Coffee was delicious! We both ordered macchiato and they were presented so beautiful and tasted great. Inside is comfortable to sit and WiFi is reliable. Customer service was excellent!

You can even see their coffee roaster right inside the shop. They have an awesome selection of coffee, refreshers, and non-caffeinated drinks, along with a few select pastries. The Iced Cajeta Latte is a must-try--rich and caramel-based, but perfectly balanced and not too sweet. They also had me try their cold horchata, which was delicious! The staff is great, service is super fast, and while it's street parking, it is absolutely worth the stop. Highly recommend!

I ordered a hot Mazapan Latte. I first noticed how smooth the coffee was. I immediately got the feeling of being wrapped in a cozy blanket. This was quite a comforting drink. I then noticed the nuttiness of the coffee. Presumably, the Mazapan aided in providing that flavor profile. I love nutty coffees, so that combined with sweetness automatically made this drink a winner to me. If I'm in the area, this might just be my go-to coffee shop. I look forward to my next visit!

Their menu was a bit confusing with the +cold foam next to the drink which makes you think it comes with it but it does not. Orange blossom $8.50 - wasn't a fan of this one.

It can get pretty busy so come early to prep. Seating: Chill plenty of seating both inside and outside. Good for small groups with room for about 30 people. Vibes: Welcome to Normal Heights nothing too flashy, just plenty of local eateries and businesses. The spot itself is relatively clean, modern, pretentious. I dig the 90s house music in the background. This seems to be a trusted neighborly coffee shop with students are working, friends are catching up, and regulars seem to know the staff by name. It helps there's a pizza shop next door as well. FOOD / DRINKS Cherie Amour (Recommend) Delish. A latte with housemade cherry and almond syrup, and if you get it iced, it comes topped with a little cold foam. I dig the sweetness and the fruitiness of the cherry, it balanced out the bitterness of the coffee which was pretty cool. CUSTOMER SERVICE Friendly and welcoming. Sara helped contribute to the neighborhood feel of the place and made the experience easy and enjoyable. TL;DR OVERALL 4.5 Stars. Good coffee, reasonable prices, and a pleasant atmosphere. I know there are plenty of coffeeshops in SD but this is a cool neighborly one. It doesnt seem like a trendy place but a place more in community and steady service. Till next time, Scrimshaw! TIPS * Try the seasonal drinks--they get creative.
