We tried this place for lunch today. What a find! Fantastic Chinese and Pana-Asian food. Crab Rangoon with the surprising and unmistakable flavor of actual crab. Actual crab! Don't know where else in Sarasota you can get this. The shrimp balls with crispy noodles were excellent and the pineapple custard buns were to die for. We enjoyed a few noodle dishes and noted that they did seafood especially well in these meals. Perfectly cooked, tender shrimp and calamari. Singapore noodles went a bit heavy on the curry flavor. (Fine with me, but if you don't like tumeric, be forewarned.) The service was courteous and prompt as well. The environment is modest but impeccably clean. Noticed some other reviews complained about the paper plates. Of course this was a pandemic-related precaution used by numerous restaurants with responsible and considerate owners. Not sure why anyone would complain about a business being too concerned about the health and welfare of their customers. Love, love, love this place! This place serves dim sum all day! We don't have dim sum places where we live, so we like to try dim sum places any time there is one available! And order ALL my favorites, even though it was just me and my husband and my son who only eats egg fried rice lol! The dim sum was all very meaty. The roast pork dish was a big portion! In fact, all portion sizes were fairly large. Everything tasted fairly fresh. Our favorite was the beef chow fun. I didn't care too much for the spare pork ribs nor the beef short ribs. It wasn't very tasty compared to what I've had before at other places. Service was great. The food came out so fast! Very covid friendly. The staff all wore masks. The place felt clean. Dim Sum is a Cantonese style of Chinese cuisine in which lots of different small appetizers are served for a meal. I first encountered it when I spent a summer in Hong Kong. There, servers would push a steamer cart full of delectable little items and you'd simply pick a few to eat. Think of it as Chinese Tapas. I haven't seen Dim Sum in most US cities. It's different than "regular" Chinese food and pretty fun to try. Although this restaurant didn't have the little carts, the concept is similar. You just mark a little menu of what you'd like and they bring it out. Everything we tried was great. In particular, the BBQ pork bun, chicken porridge, pineapple bun, and Portuguese pastry. Love this place, BUT....EVERY TIME I've been there, all 5 times, they've been out of their spare ribs!!!!! EVERY SINGLE TIME!!!! No matter what time I go, they're out of the ribs!!!! This place is a hit , very solid dim sum average priced but consistent all across the board . First up we have the black bean spare ribs ! These guys were great but some of the meat was un chewable more so than I'd like so lll take some points off for that . The pumpkins that came with it were very good though , soft , salty and sweet I wish I had more of these :) 7/10 for the ribs great flavor but let's get some more meat with less fat and gristle . 2 - Shanghai dumplings for those that don't know these are soup dumplings . The dumplings were great but they could've used a bit more broth and definitely a more durable casing because the slightest shift causes the juices to leak out which is the flavor bomb is soup dumpling lovers are looking for !! 7.5/10. 3rd we have the Shumai!!! These were freaking awesome , some of the best shumai I've ever had in recent memory . The pork and shrimp were blended perfectly , texture was tender with just the right amount of resilience , and the flavor was amazing . 9/10 for the shumai and mind you I've been eating dim sum for a while these ones are legit get them !! Last but not least dessert, it ain't dim sum if you did not get an egg tart of some sorts . Instead of the Hong Kong style I got the Portuguese , these are buttery flaky pastries with a melt in your mouth egg custard delicious and an awesome way to end my meal 9/10 . Microwaved DimSum served on plastic plates. Giving the benefit of doubt is the only reason I'm giving them 1 star. Short staffed or not the food was not that good nor was the service. Duck was delivered with quails and bones still stuck in the little duck meat that was delivered, dumplings over steamed and mushy, and all around just a bad experience. This place is the only restaurant in the area that serves amazing and genuine, freshly-made Asian cuisine, and DUMPLINGS/DIM SUM, to be specific. It's kind of a hole in the wall, because if I didn't google for the food I wanted, I would have never probably stumbled upon it. It's kind of a hidden gem in one of the strip malls, and even though they aren't super inspiring (despite how great the place is,) it's a haven for those that crave delicious, heart-warming, and authentic food. I am always so happy about the food I order here. Today I came in near to closing and they looked like they were basically cleaning up, and they still served me, which was nice of them. I ordered Pork & Shrimp Shu Mai, Shrimp Fried Rice, Book Choy with Garlic, Shanghai Style Dumplings (dumplings with soup in them,) and Hong Kong Style Sticky Rice. Comforting and absolutely tasty. Everything was tasty in its own way, each dish having varying flavor. The sticky rice surprised me though, it's more hearty, and has meat and mushrooms that complement the rice so nicely, and all wrapped up in a leaf! Super real ingredients. They even have roast duck here, which sells out quick throughout the day, but of course is something you should try to order. Seriously you have to order from here. Dim Sum King has a large variety of food, from super simple flavor and texture, classic dishes too, all the way to lesser common *in this area* and unique dishes with You'll be so full when you leave, all the food is very filling. AND on top of all of this, the food is priced pretty well! In comparison to others, getting a bunch of plates to share or one or two for yourself, it's a great deal + good amount of food for how inexpensive it is. It's a cute, little, homey place with a decent amount of tables and booths, and even a bar, decor also feels cozy and charming. Threatens to automatically charge you if you don't -Poor service -Undercooked food -Menu lacks a lot of basics -Stingy with condiments Details: As a previous server in the restaurant business, I typically tip GENEROUSLY 25% up to 60% if the service has been particularly good or great company. For this place we struggled to give $5 on an $87 bill. Upon handing the receipt over, the server asked if the tip was within 15%-25%. We replied we will not be giving more tip. When he asked why, we replied that it was poor service and undercooked food. We shouldn't be repaired to justify what we found to be an appropriate tip. More specifically for those reading, it was very difficult to get our server's attention, she actually avoided eye contact every time she walked when she was remotely busy. Our rice orders were forgotten, the scallops in our seafood chow fun were so raw in the center that we spat them out, and when we asked for chili oil we received a small dish that was pure oil with no actual chili flakes in it. Crazy frugal. He responded to our answer of poor service and undercooked food with, "Well we live purely off of tip." We asked if they don't receive wage, because frankly, that's illegal. He stuttered and said they do. Then he told us next time he will AUTOMATICALLY charge us 15% next time! Tip is incentive, NOT mandatory. This is something to be accepted as a server, as I once did having worked in the industry. You are NOT entitled. When we were packing to leave, the actual server who tended our table actually came to confront us about the tip and service. We just said we want to simply leave and not tip more than we agreed to. We left as their glare shameless followed us. WE WILL BE KEEPING AN EYE ON OUR TRANSACTION, and if more is charged than what we signed for, we will be reporting to the state, as we have our copy of the signed receipt. Aside from the personal experience, in terms of food, we are from Seattle, WA and know our Asian cuisines. Being a big fan of dim sum, I had read some reviews about this place being the go to place for dim sum in the Sarasota area, but I always figured that's not saying much given that there's probably not a lot of competition in the area. But on one faithful Saturday, we took a road trip to check out the area with the intention of stopping here for lunch first. We arrived around 1:30pm and there was a slight wait but nothing too bad. We ordered from a picture board of sorts with a dry eraser marker to pick the items we wanted... we choose about 8-9 different plates and each dish arrived individually. I think there's also a misnomer that dim sum from metallic carts somehow magically make them taste better, that's is absolutely not the case. The first dish that arrived was roast duck, which isn't that traditional and somewhat unusual for a small place like this to have roast duck. It was good in terms of roast duck but great in the sense that I haven't had it in years. And as each plate started arriving, each dish got better and better... I will say this is probably the best dim sum place we've tried in Florida.. definitely for the Tampa Bay area... I would argue it probably tops most dim sum restaurants in NYC as well. Everything was excellent, the two dishes that stood out were the stuffed tofu has a crispy skin and soft tofu on the inside... the rice roll with cruller was still crispy ! My mom lives on this side of town and until recently, we would have to drive on the other side of Sarasota for dim sum. But now, Dim Sum King is only about a 5 min drive so yay for having it be so close! We came on a Saturday afternoon and it was packed! The restaurant itself isn't that big, so if you're coming on the weekend during prime time, expect a wait. Luckily, we only had to wait about 15 min for a table to open up. Dim Sum King has all your staples, which we tried a lot of: shu mai, har gao, chicken feet, xiao long bao, taro puffs, etc. They had the carts going when we were seated, but only a small amount of the items were readily available. If you don't see what you want, you can order from kitchen. The restaurant is new, so they're still working out the kinks. Service is on the slower side. If you want hot chili oil, you'll have to ask the server. Overall, not bad and prices were average for dim sum. For 3 people it was about $45 before tip. read more

We are always on the lookout for new dim sum places. This one impressed us! We tried 13 dishes and glad we did. I will highlight some of the stand outs...The crispy pork bun was amazing! It was savory, and the bun was slightly sweet. Delicious! The Har gao (steamed shrimp dumplings) was very fresh. We really enjoyed the chives dumpling as well. The siu mai (steamed pork dumpling) was quite tasty as was the shrimp stuffed eggplants. We will definitely be back to try the noodle dishes. This is our new favorite place! read more

Best Dim Sum in the area. We've been here twice since they opened. Lunch is 11-2:45, and it starts getting pretty busy on weekends around noon. The shumai is delicious, and they use whole shrimp in the haukau. There's pumpkin in the ribs w/ black bean sauce, which soaks up the flavor better than taro I think.
