Yummy House - Siu Mai and shrimp dumplings - Chinese Near Me - Sarasota, Florida

My husband is from New York, so we knew going in that this wasn't going to be great Chinese food. But we were even more disappointed than that. This restaurant has zero ambiance, and part of it is clearly under construction. They charge $8 for four tiny vegetarian eggrolls (they are really spring rolls), they do not have any of the crunchy wonton noodles to put into soup, and you have to specifically ask for white rice for meals that should automatically come with it (and they charge you extra for it, too!). We ordered the house lo mein and the Cantonese Eight Treasures Pot; neither of them came with much meat at all (the second one is mostly tofu), and the shrimp are SO small (and you only get maybe four of them in each dish). I appreciated that they could accommodate my MSG allergy, and the cashew chicken dish was a good, large portion. But we won't be going back. read more

In the hopes that Yummy House fixed their problems we decided to order again. Yummy House used to be the best Chinese restaurant in Sarasota maybe 10 years ago. Unfortunately it was even worst than last time. The Mongolian beef was chewy and gritty. The chicken dish had too much breading and was supposed to be crisp but was soggy. The egg roles were mainly wrapper with no filling. And they were dry and over cooked. Strongly recommend against Yummy House. read more

Since my review here is over 4 years old, I'm updating it. We still love Yummy House in Sarasota. It's always on our Plan B. We try to try new places in Sarasota, but in case it doesn't work out, we go here and are not disappointed. Today we did notice the A/C was not working. They have two big fans on both sides and two small fans that are powerful. We had a small powerful fan that faced us so we were fine. We always get Beef Chow Fun here. It's always good. This time I ordered a braised fish tofu clay pot and I really like it. One thing is you always have to pay for rice in case you want it. It's is a dollar. I did need it for my fish. We also love the chicken corn soup and salt and pepper calamari, those are a few other items we order. The service is pretty good and the food is pretty quick. This location is showing its age especially in the restrooms so that's why the A/C and restrooms move this to four stars. But I do love this Yummy House, & I'm sure I will be back for their variety. I like best the murals on the inside and outside walls. They have tables, chairs, and half booths here. read more

Won't ever go back! The food is terrible. The combination lo mein lacked the combination part. it was mostly greasy noodles. The seafood crock pot had far more tofu than seafood. They don't have crispy noodles for their wonton soup (which also can't be ordered individually (serves 3-4 people), and they charged for rice. What else? No decor whatsoever. So basically the food sucked and so did the whole dining experience. We live 30 minutes away and went on a friend's recommendation. I recommend that you save yourself the trip! read more

Do not order sweet and sour pork..there is no breading. It was nothing like I've ever gotten from an Asian takeout. The sauce was bitter. Meals did not come with rice. The gentleman at the restaurant noticed no rice was ordered, so he gave my husband a small portion of white rice. But unfortunately my meal was not edible and had to be thrown away. My husband ordered the sesame chicken and said it was good. It looked more like the S&S I was looking for. His also did not come with rice. read more

Oh my! Best Chinese restaurant in Sarasota. Go for lunch since prices are best. They have some small plate/dim sum to mix and match with their entrees. Atmosphere is nice. Service is wonderful. Highly recommended! read more

We finally made it to try Yummy House, we wanted to find a sit down/have a drink kind of Chinese place. Staff was very friendly and attentive, food was really good. We had the salt and pepper calamari, house fried rice and a spicy seafood tofu bowl. Portions were large. Drinks were also very good. Not a lot of diners on a Friday evening, but they did have a lot of people coming in for take out. Will definitely be returning. read more

They will add a fraudulent gratuity! We've eaten here for many years and the food has never disappointed, however, today we caught them trying to steal money from us. They added in a double tip hoping we would not catch it on the ticket. A gratuity is automatically added for parties of 6 or more, then they have you sign a tablet for the total which also has a gratuity added, resulting it a double gratuity. Be vary careful if you are a larger party because we know this was fraudulent and intentional. read more

We ordered three dishes. Two of them are ok, normal. The sesame chicken is real sweet, told the manager/owner (the only Asian lady), she said the kids love that dish but she will not order it herself. Lol, what is that mean? She didn't comp it, even we literally only ate 2 pieces, and told her that we didn't enjoy it. Also, that is the first Chinese restaurant which the main dishes don't come with rice. She also didn't tell us it is a charged for it. Not the 2 dollars, more like I felt I got scammed. Will not return. It wasted the money and I found stuff floating in my water. Lady, that isn't how you do business, if you try to scam your customers, they know. read more

Yummy House - Chinese Near Me - Sarasota, Florida

Very good. For Chinese- the best. Have to eat dine-in though. Take out I have not had good luck. The orange chicken, veggie lo mein, and "salt & pepper" side is still the go-to. Food comes out hot, friendly and fast service and the inside looks like it's had a nice little upgrade. Reasonably priced. I recommend read more

Very disappointed. We ordered shrimp lo mein and cashew chicken. The shrimp was not fully cooked and we had to send it back. The chicken was tasteless. I asked for hot mustard and was told they did not have any, just some hot chili sauce. Also, I have never been to a Chinese restaurant that charges for a tiny bowl of rice! We will definitely not be returning. read more

I have been to this location several times so far and have been twice since it was remodeled and enjoyed my visits. After moving here from Tampa I was familiar with Yummy House thankfully or else it might not have been on my radar. Yummy House is located right on Tamiami Trail/US 41. During lunch they have several lunch specials and a Dim Sum menu Everything I have had has been delectable and excellent. On my most recent visit I had some hand rolled rice noodles (dim sum menu) that were exquisite and both myself and my daughter enjoyed the seafood soup. We also enjoyed the salt and pepper preparation of the Salt and Pepper Calamari which had plenty of garlic and green garnish as well-it was simply scrumptious. The eggplant dish we ordered was very nice as well. Green tea is also Leah's and excellent accompaniment to our meals. On previous visit I had lunch specials and they were nicely portioned. One thing about this Chinese food is it is more refined and upscale if that makes any sense-it is also not as greasy as traditional Chinese food which you find in the United States. Service has always been excellent and attentive and I will continue to return! read more

I was told that this was the best Chinese food in Sarasota. Sadly, we were disappointed. My wife ordered duck, which was overcooked and obviously reheated. I ordered a "spicy" Szechuan dish that was not at all spicy. It was, at best average. The egg rolls were likewise overcooked and tastless. I will say that the fried pork dumplings were very good, but that's not enough to get me back. There is nothing inviting about the space. read more

The food there is amazing. If you aren't used to eating dim sum, it's like having a ticket where you continuously order appetizers over and over and having a large choice of appetizers. That's pretty much what it's like. Samples of all the different types of food. Everything was good about this restaurant even when it was full and busy the staff and handled it well. I got Mongolian beef, which is to die for. I live down south in Fort Myers and an hour and a half away from the restaurant, but we make the travel because it's worth it. read more

Great. Dim Sun outstanding. House fired rice excellent. Jasmine hot tea great. Great for lunch after Sunday mass.

I'm surprised to see this restaurant has not received higher overall rating. My husband and I have been going there for the past three years now. They have the best fried rice in town! We usually get the house fried rice. We also go for their dim sum during lunch time, their steamed pork ribs, eggplants, tofu with shrimp, chive dumplings and the Gailan (chinese greens) are our much have dishes. Their service is fast and staff are friendly. I'm really glad we have such a high quality Chinese restaurant in Sarasota neighborhood. read more

Food was fast in less than 6 minutes after the waiter place to order. Service was not good. Food had no taste, no side dishes. We asked the waiter for cold green tea he told us that they do not have any kin of tea except what comes out of the Coke machine. It was Chinese New Year not a single decoration. It was pretty much nonexistent for being such a significant time of year. I would never go again to that restaurant. Definitely would never recommend that restaurant to absolutely anybody. And to all those people who give this place 5 stars. I recommend you change your palate. The ambience just felt plain and stupid we wasted our money. You can tell that the staff did not want you there. They just wanted the money. read more

I didn't dine in, we had delivery. So I've eaten at a lot of Chinese restaurants and tons of deliveries. Never ever have I ever received my food WITHOUT rice. AND what genuine Chinese Restaurant doesn't provide chopsticks AND fortune cookies. Pretty shady. And the cashew chicken was super bland. Boiled not stir fried. read more

Yummy house is by far my favorite Chinese restaurant in the area here in Sarasota. They have delicious food and I love their orange chicken and sesame chicken along with many other entrées. If you are looking for a place to deliver, they certainly can, but I assure you going into the restaurant the food will be a lot fresher and better. They also have many different appetizer sides and which I tried four different ones these times and was not upset about it as they were fantastic. read more

We came for a birthday dinner on a Sunday night. Not many other people here. The service was friendly, maybe a little off. Ordered hot green tea and was brought a pot of unstrained black tea. Server brought out a strainer when he saw the contents and I placed it over my cup with each pour. No rice was brought out with our entrees and we couldn't catch the attention group of employees chatting on the other side of the room. Eventually it was brought out. The food is very good - we all shared our entrees: Orange Chicken, Pan Fried Noodles, Garlic Chicken, Hong Kong Style Curry Shrimp. All delicious. Recommend read more

I love Chinese dishes I don't always appreciate the food from some cuisines, but I sure love Chinese dishes. Yummy House has an extensive menu. My wife and I stopped in this evening. I already knew what I wanted before we even walked in, their Orange Chicken. As I mentioned in my review from years ago, I realize it may not be a good representative dish for the restaurant, but I sure liked it...again. My wife thought it was too sweet...again. Be sure to order a side of white rice for a dollar. It was a lot of food. As you can tell from my photo, these are large family style servings. As much as I wanted to just keep overeating, some has come home with me for tomorrow. I can't wait to be hungry again. Yummy House is located across from the Sarasota Memorial Hospital complex, next to the Circle K. This is a different location than when I visited for the last review. It is no longer just a big room, it is still popular, and it was pretty loud when we stepped inside. Why not, they offer great food. read more

Yummy House - Orange Chicken - Chinese Near Me - Sarasota, Florida

Been going to Yummy House for years. They seem to have fewer customers. The food is still good. But the atmosphere needs help. It was really cold today. Asked them to turn up or turn on the heat. They told us they have no heat or A/C and haven't for some time. They have no plans. In addition, the atmosphere needs an update/upgrade. There was plastic sheeting hanging in the left rear section. Not sure what that was about. The prior time we were there was a year or so ago. That time the bathroom was out of order. Owners - Please smarten up - you are losing business and customers because of your lack of investment in the venue! Not sure I will rush back there. read more

This was a last minute substitute as the Chinese place we had planned to take my mother to for her birthday was closed on Mondays. It turned out to be a wonderfully happy accident! First, it's a comfortable dining room with a good seating arrangement -- both tables with chairs and banquette seating. They were more than ready to accomodate a wheelchair. Indeed, they seemed delighted to. Which brings me to some of the most attentive service in recent memory. Ready to make recommendations and prepare food according to my mother's tastes and preferences. They made her feel like a queen. We all enjoyed the experience immensely. And of course, the food was delicious. The egg drop soup was velvety and filled with fresh vegetables. It was served family style and was more than three of us could possibly eat. The barbecued pork appetizer was tender and kind of addictive. The Hometown Style Rice Noodles had incredibly tender and flavorful shrimp, and lots of it. The barbecued pork in this dish was even more tender than it was in the appetizer. The Fresh Mushroom chicken was teeming with both. Also delicious. For me the big winner was the Spicy Yummy Chicken. Too spicy for my mom, but not very spicy for most people. Just a little heat and a lot of flavor! We had much more food than we could have eaten. The portions are huge. But the price was a great deal. Especially given the quality of the service. Love this place, and so grateful that they contributed to a great birthday for my mother. read more

We used to love the Yummy House when we lived in Sarasota 10 years ago. We ate there again during a recent visit and sadly, the food was not all that good. I ordered a dish with bok-choy that turned out to be very gritty when chewing. They obviously did not wash the grit out of it when preparing the dish. Another dish with squid was rubbery and not flavorful at all. In all, a very disappointing experience. read more

Really impressed trying this restaurant again. We used to go to the old location and loved it. The food seemed to go downhill when they moved, so we hadn't gone for a few years. But we tried it again, and it was very good! The bok choy and mushrooms were especially fresh and delicious, and the seafood noodles and XO beef with snow peas were great as well. We are very definitely going to be coming back regularly! And service was fast, friendly and efficient. read more

Nothing like the one in Tampa. The honey walnut shrimp were not crispy. It was boiled shrimp with mayo on lettuce and soft walnuts. You have to pay for rice separately. Which I ordered but it never came. The udon beef was good but not much meat. Our waitress disappeared. Never refilled our drinks. The restaurant was empty on a Saturday night. We had to ask the host for a check and boxes. read more

Again We are very pleased with the quality of dim sum at Yummy house! The prices are very reasonable! Speaking of that, I am comparing the places with the ones in Central Florida area like Orlando. They can easily charge you $8 per dish. we also went for dinner and was satisfied with the service and food quality. I highly recommend everyone to try if you are in the area. You are not going to be disappointed by the quality and generous portion that they served. I see everyone go home with some left over for the next day. read more

The quality of the food is horrible. We all got ill the next day , not sure how they are still operating .

After a year in the area, we're still in search of a good Chinese place - take away and/or dine in. We heard about this Yummy place and driving by I took a hard right to get in the drive and parked out back. Yummy missed the mark in about all areas. The egg rolls were tiny for a dollar each. Tasted as if they were from the frozen section in publix and microwaved. The condiments were in little bowls with plastic spoons. Service was just OK. The fried rice and beef were heavily salted or soy sauced and no other flavor. We never could get proper plates and the silverware is what I refer to as prison-like - crude stamped out metal and bent in every direction from overuse. Oh well, the search continues. read more

Yummy House - Eggs rolls - Chinese Near Me - Sarasota, Florida

We ordered beef with broccoli, sesame chicken, chicken fried rice, spring roles - ALL were absolutely, without question, the WORST we have ever ordered ANYWHERE. There was literally zero flavor. It was almost like this wasn't a cook who made it but a waite? sesame chicken was fried to the point of pretzel texture with tasteless breading. I could taste broccoli but that was it. Restaurant under renovation so maybe no real cook working. EVERYONE through it in the trash - that bad. They used to be great. What happened? I never leave a bad review except now. Waste of money. read more

We had a good dinner at Yummy House. The wonton soup tasted like real chicken broth, with bok choy and thin-skinned wontons. The crispy rice noodle dish was abundant with noodles, but lacked seasoning and the seafood and pork was skimpy. The clay pot eggplant, fish and mushroom dish was well- seasoned. Our server, Colin, was charming, efficient and a pleasure to chat with. read more
