Of all the Chinese food places I have tried in SRQ, Uncle Wen's has proven to be the most reliable and consistent. Their prices are in line with everyone, their food is fresh, service prompt. I've only done pick up or delivery, but the food is always on time, the order accurate and cooked properly. SRQ really needs a stand out Chinese restaurant but UW will do in a pinch. read more

Was referred to try this place because their food was fresh. Food was ok. Nothing to bring accolades to. Duck with plum sauce was disappointing. Duck needs to be crispier. Duck was dry and not crunchy. Sweet and sour Chicken was the best thing on this menu. General Tsao was second favorite. Egg foo young was ok. Restaurant isn't even open for sit down. You have to order at the door and take away. Even with the cook informing that the duck was going to take 30mins, it still was disappointing to have the duck that dry. Just had the Peking duck for my friend's birthday. She said to tell Uncle Wen he is "the king of duck"! It was delish.

Good egg rolls It was my first visit to Uncle Wen's, a mostly takeout place across Tuttle Ave from Ed Smith Stadium. They have an extensive menu, I looked it over online before I walked in. They offer both lunch and dinner specials, a soup, an egg roll, and the main course with fried rice, priced under $10 for dinner. I decided on their Orange Chicken. The person who took my order was a happy guy, and the food was ready in less time than he said it would take. All good. Uncle Wen's has a couple of tables, I suppose if you wanted to eat there. I got my food to go. Uncle Wen's has a typical look, pictures of various dishes above the counter, the kitchen area visible behind the counter. Unfortunately, I thought the Orange Chicken was bland. Excellent food and service. When dining with individuals with disabilities, it is important that servers are patient and understanding. This restaurant met both expectations. Several orders were updated and many special request were made and all were accommodated. The guy at the counter was really patient and commented each time that is was OK with a bright smile. The food was great. Most Chinese restaurants no longer include bean sprouts and eggs in their rice but this one had both. The crab rangoons were very tasty and not too oily. The five spice sauce on the shrimp with vegtables taste great and wasn't too spicy. The portions were enough for two meals. The lunch specials start at $5.25 and include an egg roll. This is absolutely the worst chinese food we have ever had! I wouldn't even give this place a one star. We tried their house and lo main house varieties and ended up sick to our stomach. The rice was white (not your typical soy sauce color LOL because it had none!) , you could count with one hand the shrimp, chicken and missing pork, there where a couple tiny pieces of egg. The rice was overcooked and mushy and tasted horrible. This was the large take-out serving... the lo main was as bad as the rice, we had to end up throwing away both containers after a few bites. It was all routine or so I thought, but just as I was leaving the house to go pick up the order, I get a call from Uncle Wen's and they accuse me of being a deadbeat who didn't pick up my last order. Well I did pick up my order or rather I had my mother pick it up on my behalf while I sat in the truck. I remember exactly what I ordered and I have the bank statement to prove it. Needless to say I am furious and despite my mother showing them proof of payment, rather then apologize, they simply shrugged. After waiting for over an hour for my food to arrive I was hoping to have the amazing food that I read about here in Yelp. Alas, It was lukewarm, goopy, standard American-Chinese faire that wasn't worth the wait or the money. The driver doesn't speak a word of English which, while I appreciate living in the grand melting pot, is not a desirable trait of someone trying to find your house to deliver something. After 4 phone calls back and forth between the store and my house and me calling them out on their poor service and communication skills my food arrived. I had the "Dragon Meets Phoenix" which is supposed to be the chef's special. It's a combination of General Tso's Chicken and a Spicy Shrimp dish. The Chicken was chewey and there were 3 shrimp and about 50 water chestnuts for the shrimp side. The soup was good, but how hard is Egg Drop Soup to make, really? Uncle Wens was the best place around years ago.... not anymore. The last 3 times the food has been horrible. No flavor, cold, and the chicken was more "mystery meat" than chicken. I decided to try them again tonight. I ordered online. It said my order would be delivered in an hour. I called an hour and a half later and they said that they haven't been getting thier online orders the last few weeks. What trash the food and people are. They treat thier customers like shit. I ordered shrimp with lobster sauce I have never known shrimp with lobster sauce have mushroomnot even any egg which we all know there is egg and it in or pork it has to be the worst shrimp and lobster sauce I've ever had no flavor just yuck. I don't know if all the women that worked there quit.. because every time we go there it's only a guy ay the register, who is disgustingly rude and a guy in the back. Don't ask for extra sauce, he will catch an attitude and tell you to pay for it. He gave us two duck sauces, two soy sauce and two packs of mustard. We asked him to replace the soy and mustard with duck sauce and he said he couldn't do that, he said as if we annoyed him or something. I will never go back there... it's sad that you even have to ask for sauce. Most restaurants have them out for you to grab yourself. But, I understand, however...
