Always on the lookout for a good Chinese place, I heard some good reports on DimSum King on some other social network sites. So, we made a special effort to get over there and check it out, and get some take away. They do have a number of tables inside for dining on site. We didn't order ahead, just showed up and ordered the fried rice, Kung Pao chicken and beef with broccoli. Service was quick and good and we had our food in short order. Unfortunately it did not live up to the hype I had heard. The Kung Pao chicken was bland, as well as the beef and broccoli. Neither came with rice, which was both unusual and disappointing. The fried rice was good, not necessarily great. So, overall, disappointed and don't think we'll try there again. read more

It was our first time trying out DimSum King and was really looking forward to it. There was a short waiting list and we got there just in time for lunch as they close between lunch and dinner. They have a dim sum and regular menu. We ordered off the dim sum this time but will be back to try some other items. We got the Shu Mai (shrimp and pork dumplings), Pan-Fried Turnip Cake, Hagao (steamed shrimp dumplings), baby clams with black bean sauce, Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce, steamed rice beef rolls, and deep friend shrimp balls. We really enjoyed it and would have it again but skip the Chinese broccoli and steamed rice beef rolls. They were ok but not as good as the others. The kitchen was getting ready to close so we slipped in another order of Shu Mai and Hagao. The food was served on regular dishes but we ate off Styrofoam plates with plastic utensils and chopsticks which I am assuming is due to Covid. The place was nice, service was fast and it was full of people which to me means the food is worth the wait. There was a family of 6 there and the 4 children were loud, yelling, jumping around with no respectful of the other patrons which I found distracting. Finally Sarasota has a decent dim sum place. I would recommend the yelp community go to support them. Although the dim sum is not the top notch but it already very good. I can see the place will survive because Chinese and Caucasian are enjoying the food. It is a good mixture. We order stuff eggplant, fried salty dumplings, rice paste with fried dough, stuff fried dough, stuffed bell pepper, baby clam with black bean sauce, steam shrimp dumplings, siu mai. All of them is in good portion. The taste is balanced, flavor just right and not too salty. Steam technique also better due to new types steam basket. I like their stir fried and fried items. It burn the edge to create crispy and burn meat taste. Overall service is good. Table is set to social distancing. Server wear mask and gloves. Food come out at the right time. read more

I was looking for a close and easy place near the hotel to grab dinner and this sounded comforting.. I went in to order for takeout and there was only a handful of people inside. The place looked really clean and the ladies at the front took my order quickly. I only had to wait about ten mins for my food. I'm not really an expert on dim sum so I played it pretty safe in my selections. An order of crispy sesame balls, an order of steamed bbq pork buns, and an order of steamed mix veg buns. There was three of each in each order. The crispy sesame had a nice crispy exterior and a creamy black bean paste inside. Tasty but sweeter than I expected. Both steamed buns were soft, doughy, with really good filling. The meaty filling and the cabbage and carrot veg was a nice balance. The total meal cost me about $12. I'm going to add location into the methodology of this rating. For Sarasota, this is a pretty solid dim sum spot! Not one that will blow your mind away at a bigger city, but sure pulls its weight. There's not that much seating so don't be surprised by a wait. It was holiday time when I came so staff was real busy so don't be surprised by a delay in service - but the staff is efficient and polite! With that out of the way, I think the food is good! Pork buns were fresh and fluffy. Shanghai dumplings were hot and flavorful. Shumai was really savory and good texture. Will only say sticky rice and bok choy could've been cooked for longer, but everything else was great. read more

Here In central Florida we really don't have that many options for Dim Sum. I can only think of 2, yummy house in downtown Tampa (which is decent) And then You've got Dim Sum King which is better. Been searching for good Dim Sum, so decided to give them a try. So glad we did. The crispy pork dim sum was excellent and so tasty. Also had stuffed eggplant with shrimp dim sum, a dish I had never had before, and it was very good. One of our favorite Cantonese entrees is Chow Ho Fun. Ordered the Beef Chow Fun and it was by far, the best we've had in many years. Definitely the closest Chow Ho Fun to our favorite restaurants in Chinatown/NYC. We have now been here twice and loved it both times. Have also had the pot stickers and braised eggplant, both very good. read more

It is still the best Chinese restaurant in Sarasota but first time on a Friday trying their duck, a bit disappointing it wasn't very crispy the duck fat wasn't rendered, the sauce was delicious though, but the rest was so good that it balanced it out. I was lured here by the high ratings. I guess Sarasota doesn't have much choice in Chinese cuisine, or diners are just happy to get an inexpensive meal of mediocre and average quality. We were told to seat ourselves, yet all the empty tables were dirty with uncleared dishes from a prior diner. We stood by the table while we waited for someone to come over and clean the table. Then we ordered. We got our drinks, and food. But no further service, though we would have ordered more beers. Food was average in quality. Prices were reasonable. Outstanding. I grew up near San Francisco, but moved to the NYC Metro area in 2015 where most Chinese restaurants use soy-based sauces. Fortunately, not long after moving to Florida in 2020, I found Cantonese food at Dim Sum King. The Steamed Pork and Shrimp Dumplings are a tasty starter. We asked for potsticker sauce on the side and they were delicious. The Cashew Shrimp is one of our favorites with a side of white rice. There are plenty of large buttery cashews and jumbo shrimp. The baked pineapple-custard buns are a delectable treat for dessert. My family are also frequent diners when they visit. They enjoy everything on the menu! read more

I didn't expect much from this place because of the name (sounds goofy to me) and not being in a place with any dim-sum competition. I grew up in NYC...so, love dim-sum and not a newbie. Finally tried some Asian food here in Sarasota! As a recent transplant from CA, one of the things I knew I'd miss the most was allllll the Asian food we had access to (we lived right next to Irvine so we def had that good good). Yelp recommended this place and I'm glad we gave it a try for dinner tonight. We ordered the bbq (char siu) bao buns, crab rangoons, shrimp & pork shumai, sticky rice, kimchi fried rice, combination lo mein, walnut chicken, and egg tarts. For the most part, everything was pretty standard yet tasty, like this def isn't Din Tai Fung but it's pretty decent considering it's Sarasota which is why I'm giving it 4 stars. The Lo Mein was def a favorite, good flavor and not too greasy/salty. Kind of disappointed with the kimchi fried rice-- it could've had WAY more kimchi in it and wasn't spicy at all. Even the scallops were meh and I def think it was the most greasy dish. The walnut chicken was okay too...the sauce was tasty (it was more like a creamy honey mustard, is that realllyyyy Asian?) but the breading was basically tempura and I could only eat a couple before I got over it. The shrimp & pork shu mai reminded me of the pork hash I'd get back home in HI more than it did Din Tai Fung, and the crab rangoons were just okay with the breading being too heavy. I actually think the egg tart was the best thing out of our entire meal-- reminded me of 85c back in CA, with a flaky, savory, crust a deliciously sweet egg custard. I do wish they had more veggie dim sum options (where's the spicy cucumber, kimchi, sautéed bok choy, garlic green beans, etc????) and less breaded/fried/basic options. You can def tell they cater to the population here in Sarasota rather than authentic Asian cuisine. We'll be back when I need my Asian fix, but the search for authentic Asian continues! read more

It's not too bad, the best out of all the different items we had was the Fried Pork Dumplings (it was crispy on the outside and tons of meat and flavor inside) matter of fact, I want that now! This place is much better than others in Sarasota so I'm tempering my review a bit as it's closer to 3.5 stars. Very stark decor and just so "strip mall Florida" with no music or really any ambiance. Service was ok, but clearly just a lot of "younger" folks running around not really knowing what to do. It's fine so just be ready for that kind of service. Food was pretty good and my favs were the Shrimp Dumplings, Shumai (really good), and Lomein noodles. Soup Dumplings and Pork "sasui" Bao didn't have much flavor so I'll pass on that next time. We've been hunting for a place in the area for Chinese food, and the one closest to us is not very good. We decided to try out Dim Sum King with all of the good reviews that it has. The food was quite good, the service excellent and a terrific assortment of dim sum offerings. The only thing keeping me from giving them five stars is their lack of a combination plate at dinner. I can't order a bowl of soup; I have to order a large one, for example, which doesn't always make sense when there is just two of us. But the dishes we tried were all delicious. I had a craving for dim sum and stopped here on the way home from a hike. It hit the spot but it wasn't the best dim sum I've had in the Tampa Bay Area. It's a bit pricier than some other local spots but I'm not sure the ingredients or flavors make it worth the cost difference. The baked pork buns had a crackle crust on top that you'd usually see on top of a pineapple bun, which was interesting but I wouldn't say I like it. Dim Sum is excellen, always order too much. my favorites include xiaolongbao, fried tofu skin wrap, stuffed fried tofu, crullers and roast duck. The seating is surprisingly good with high ceilings for what is elaborate fast food. Definitely recommend trying DimSum King . read more

We found this place close to our hotel for dinner. We were quickly seated and told to mark on the menu what we wanted. They also offer a regular menu of appetizers, soups, noodles and entrees. Unfortunately three of the dim sum items we wanted were sold out. We ordered the spare ribs in black bean sauce, Shanghai dumplings, steamed bbq pork buns, house fried rice and chicken & broccoli. The dim sum came out quickly and was very hot. They were all good but not exceptional. The house fried rice was really good, flavorful and lots of ingredients. The chicken and broccoli was excellent. The chicken was cooked perfectly and was loaded with fresh broccoli, carrots and slices of ginger. The garlic brown sauce was delicious! We ended with the fried sesame balls and those were also really good. Again served very hot and crispy with a sweet soft inside perfect for dessert. food quality has fallen in my last two visits. Yesterday was my third time to this place. the boss was not there. we arrived 15 mins before their closing time for lunch. waitresses said (arbitrarily) no more dine in, only to-go orders. Since there are no tables or benches outside the restaurant and it started to rain, we hesitated. The waitress raised her voice, impatiently and rudely said "you want order or not?!" Attitude matters! Hard to believe that kind of service, or lack of, can survive. I would not return for the food or service.
