Always on the lookout for a good Chinese place, I heard some good reports on DimSum King on some other social network sites. So, we made a special effort to get over there and check it out, and get some take away. They do have a number of tables inside for dining on site. We didn't order ahead, just showed up and ordered the fried rice, Kung Pao chicken and beef with broccoli. Service was quick and good and we had our food in short order. Unfortunately it did not live up to the hype I had heard. The Kung Pao chicken was bland, as well as the beef and broccoli. Neither came with rice, which was both unusual and disappointing. The fried rice was good, not necessarily great. So, overall, disappointed and don't think we'll try there again. read more

Dim Sum King - Dim Sum Near Me - Bradenton, Florida

It was our first time trying out DimSum King and was really looking forward to it. There was a short waiting list and we got there just in time for lunch as they close between lunch and dinner. They have a dim sum and regular menu. We ordered off the dim sum this time but will be back to try some other items. We got the Shu Mai (shrimp and pork dumplings), Pan-Fried Turnip Cake, Hagao (steamed shrimp dumplings), baby clams with black bean sauce, Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce, steamed rice beef rolls, and deep friend shrimp balls. We really enjoyed it and would have it again but skip the Chinese broccoli and steamed rice beef rolls. They were ok but not as good as the others. The kitchen was getting ready to close so we slipped in another order of Shu Mai and Hagao. The food was served on regular dishes but we ate off Styrofoam plates with plastic utensils and chopsticks which I am assuming is due to Covid. The place was nice, service was fast and it was full of people which to me means the food is worth the wait. There was a family of 6 there and the 4 children were loud, yelling, jumping around with no respectful of the other patrons which I found distracting. Doesn't reflect on the restaurant but it is really too bad that it had to happen. Other than that we enjoyed our lunch and will be back again. read more

I am so grateful when I get a chance to make it up to Sarasota/University Parkway so I can stop by Dim Sum King. I have ordered take out here twice, both times when they had just opened on a Friday, and by the time I got home with the food, it was still hot! I have a 45 minute ride one way to my house and I don't know how they do it!!! The food is amazing. The buns are to die for. I would drive there seriously just for two orders of each of the pineapple custard buns, and bbq pork buns. I drool just thinking of them. Very reasonably priced, and a wide variety of dishes. There is something for everybody. People you dine with don't like dim sum? They have dishes you would typically find at a Chinese take out place. Staff is also friendly and attentive to the dine-in patrons. Kitchen staff are very quick to make your order for you. read more

Finally Sarasota has a decent dim sum place. I would recommend the yelp community go to support them. Although the dim sum is not the top notch but it already very good. I can see the place will survive because Chinese and Caucasian are enjoying the food. It is a good mixture. We order stuff eggplant, fried salty dumplings, rice paste with fried dough, stuff fried dough, stuffed bell pepper, baby clam with black bean sauce, steam shrimp dumplings, siu mai. All of them is in good portion. The taste is balanced, flavor just right and not too salty. Steam technique also better due to new types steam basket. I like their stir fried and fried items. It burn the edge to create crispy and burn meat taste. Overall service is good. Table is set to social distancing. Server wear mask and gloves. Food come out at the right time. read more

I was looking for a close and easy place near the hotel to grab dinner and this sounded comforting.. I went in to order for takeout and there was only a handful of people inside. The place looked really clean and the ladies at the front took my order quickly. I only had to wait about ten mins for my food. I'm not really an expert on dim sum so I played it pretty safe in my selections. An order of crispy sesame balls, an order of steamed bbq pork buns, and an order of steamed mix veg buns. There was three of each in each order. The crispy sesame had a nice crispy exterior and a creamy black bean paste inside. Tasty but sweeter than I expected. Both steamed buns were soft, doughy, with really good filling. The meaty filling and the cabbage and carrot veg was a nice balance. The total meal cost me about $12. I thought it was a decent price for a great meal. read more

This restaurant should be featured on Guy Fieri's Flavortown All Stars! Had DoorDash delivery - and tried a bunch of things: Steamed Pork Buns - the chicken was so moist, tender and spiced to mouthwatering perfection Fried Chive and Shrimp Dumplings - again the flavors so compelling and lightly spiced BBQ pork dumplings - think Zeppole filled with delicious pork in an Asian bbq mix - amazing! Chinese Broccoli with Hoisin - big brother broccoli which was delish when lightly coated with the sauce and then we went traditional American Chinese: General Tso's Chicken - all fresh, moist white meat, lightly battered and sauced with fresh garlic, ginger and peppers - hard to stop gobbling this Braised Eggplant - not my thing, and a bit over-sauced, but tasty according to my better half Amazingly, no rice containers, which was fine and unnecessary given the amazing flavors This is worthy of the good reviews and is now our go-to for Asian cuisine read more

Dim Sum King - A veritable smorgasbord of flavor! - Dim Sum Near Me - Bradenton, Florida

Wasn't sure what to expect being a Boston Chinese food snob, but figured I'd give it a try. Was very pleased with the selection and quality of the dim sum. Clams in black bean sauce was superb. Wonton soup excellent. Shrimp shumai very good. You check off the item on the menu and they come out when ready. read more

Update your time on your door... We attempted to go here yesterday at 2... we were turned away along with another couple... in a Sunday no less.. doesn't seem like they are interested in getting businesses or care to address something that is clearly wrong on their part... hence 1 Star so people have awareness of how customer service is not really a thing here.. I I didn't look up the time on yelp which does say 2 but look at the picture on the door!!!! How do you tell walk-ins people you are closed when your door clearly states 2:45pm. read more

Dim Sum King - Update your time on the door!!!!! 2:45???? Yet turning people away at 2? - Dim Sum Near Me - Bradenton, Florida

Still my favorite when it comes to dim sum. Their food is superior to any in the county. However, that being said don't expect friendly courteous service. You won't get it. They offer wonderful, authentic Chinese dim sum. The chicken feet were very well prepared and not offered at most restaurants. The snow pea stems while pricey is a large portion good enough to share with the table. Other veggies are al dente and fresh. The hot and sour soup has al the traditional ingredients like tiger lily buds. Etc but slightly too thick for my taste. They offer a large selection of steamed and fried foods. If you want to take home leftovers bring your own container. I was charged 75 cents for a pint plastic container. Styrofoam is free but unsuitable for saucy foods. If you order soup there is no charge for the take home container. read more

I'm going to add location into the methodology of this rating. For Sarasota, this is a pretty solid dim sum spot! Not one that will blow your mind away at a bigger city, but sure pulls its weight. There's not that much seating so don't be surprised by a wait. It was holiday time when I came so staff was real busy so don't be surprised by a delay in service - but the staff is efficient and polite! With that out of the way, I think the food is good! Pork buns were fresh and fluffy. Shanghai dumplings were hot and flavorful. Shumai was really savory and good texture. Will only say sticky rice and bok choy could've been cooked for longer, but everything else was great. read more

Consistently delicious. You will wait at peak dinner hours but man, it's always so good.

Here In central Florida we really don't have that many options for Dim Sum. I can only think of 2, yummy house in downtown Tampa (which is decent) And then You've got Dim Sum King which is better. Not as good as New York but for Florida it's actually quite good. Every dish I ordered beat my expectations by a little and I was happy at the end of the meal. Will be back to try some more read more

Everything went well. Food is delicious. Best place to get Asian food. My favorite!!!!!!!!

Our favorite Chinese place in Sarasota. We're regulars. Love the fact that they have an all day dim sum menu in addition to the traditional menu items. And it's usually really quick. read more

Been searching for good Dim Sum, so decided to give them a try. So glad we did. The crispy pork dim sum was excellent and so tasty. Also had stuffed eggplant with shrimp dim sum, a dish I had never had before, and it was very good. One of our favorite Cantonese entrees is Chow Ho Fun. Ordered the Beef Chow Fun and it was by far, the best we've had in many years. Definitely the closest Chow Ho Fun to our favorite restaurants in Chinatown/NYC. We have now been here twice and loved it both times. Have also had the pot stickers and braised eggplant, both very good. read more

I was lured here by the high ratings. I guess Sarasota doesn't have much choice in Chinese cuisine, or diners are just happy to get an inexpensive meal of mediocre and average quality. We were told to seat ourselves, yet all the empty tables were dirty with uncleared dishes from a prior diner. We stood by the table while we waited for someone to come over and clean the table. Then we ordered. We got our drinks, and food. But no further service, though we would have ordered more beers. Food was average in quality. Prices were reasonable. Entire dining experience was certainly not deserving more than an average three star rating. read more

My first time trying Dim Sum and after going here I can officially say I am a huge fan! The Shanghai style Dumplings were good but small, the sesame balls were amazing. However, my favorite dish by far was the barbecue pork buns, oh my goodness - they were absolutely amazing and I can't wait to go back and have more! read more

It is still the best Chinese restaurant in Sarasota but first time on a Friday trying their duck, a bit disappointing it wasn't very crispy the duck fat wasn't rendered, the sauce was delicious though, but the rest was so good that it balanced it out. I didn't expect much from this place because of the name (sounds goofy to me) and not being in a place with any dim-sum competition. I grew up in NYC...so, love dim-sum and not a newbie. Bottom line: as good or better than many places in NYC! We probably ordered about 10 different dishes...all were really good in both taste and quality...and priced in some cases even better. Nice surprise in Sarasota...worth not only a try but being a regular if you live here. read more

Finally tried some Asian food here in Sarasota! As a recent transplant from CA, one of the things I knew I'd miss the most was allllll the Asian food we had access to (we lived right next to Irvine so we def had that good good). Yelp recommended this place and I'm glad we gave it a try for dinner tonight. We ordered the bbq (char siu) bao buns, crab rangoons, shrimp & pork shumai, sticky rice, kimchi fried rice, combination lo mein, walnut chicken, and egg tarts. For the most part, everything was pretty standard yet tasty, like this def isn't Din Tai Fung but it's pretty decent considering it's Sarasota which is why I'm giving it 4 stars. The Lo Mein was def a favorite, good flavor and not too greasy/salty. Kind of disappointed with the kimchi fried rice-- it could've had WAY more kimchi in it and wasn't spicy at all. Even the scallops were meh and I def think it was the most greasy dish. The walnut chicken was okay too...the sauce was tasty (it was more like a creamy honey mustard, is that realllyyyy Asian?) but the breading was basically tempura and I could only eat a couple before I got over it. The shrimp & pork shu mai reminded me of the pork hash I'd get back home in HI more than it did Din Tai Fung, and the crab rangoons were just okay with the breading being too heavy. I actually think the egg tart was the best thing out of our entire meal-- reminded me of 85c back in CA, with a flaky, savory, crust a deliciously sweet egg custard. I do wish they had more veggie dim sum options (where's the spicy cucumber, kimchi, sautéed bok choy, garlic green beans, etc????) and less breaded/fried/basic options. You can def tell they cater to the population here in Sarasota rather than authentic Asian cuisine. We'll be back when I need my Asian fix, but the search for authentic Asian continues! read more

We stop here for a late lunch because we had a craving for dim sum! It's not too bad, the best out of all the different items we had was the Fried Pork Dumplings (it was crispy on the outside and tons of meat and flavor inside) matter of fact, I want that now! The beef chow fun was very authentic and had a lot of flavor! The bbq pork we had was not good, it was dry and tough! The Chinese broccoli was pretty good too! Delicious food! Dim sum was excellent. Cannot wait to go back! Better if you have more people so you can try more tasty options.

Best Chinese food in Sarasota. every time we've gone to this restaurant it's been a five star experience.

It's good. Nice service. The items are meaty and the noodles surrounding each item are chewy and thick in a good way. Each little dish is $6-$7,so it's pricey to make me full. read more

Finally tried this place. We had two orders of Dumplings and they were OK, not great. The lunch entrees were sub par and had too much tacky sauce. Serving portion was large which I guess is why people go here. We didn't take anything to go. Service was prompt and without personality. The restaurant could use a deep clean and windows should be cleaned. Still trying to find a good Asian restaurant near LWR and UTC. read more

All hail the King! I love this place. I've been for lunch many times and gotten take out for dinner. I've never been disappointed. Everything is on point. Total and Complete Garbage! Wonton Soup , watered down water, wontons full of ground pork fat, no taste, ripoff!, Egg Drop soup no flavor, Watertown puke! Total Disgrace..!!! Barbecue Spare ribs, pieces of all fat, tasteless, shit!!!! This place sucks and should close!... They give no noodles or rice... I also ordered fried rice, that was mostly white tasteless rice... Not sure why Sarasota Magazine gives rave reviews????? Got their Sesame balls and Pineapple custard balls too, Thanks Sarasota Magazine..being sarcastic... It is just tasteless bread....Not sure who reviews restaurants, but they need to order some tastebuds. read more

This place is much better than others in Sarasota so I'm tempering my review a bit as it's closer to 3.5 stars. Very stark decor and just so "strip mall Florida" with no music or really any ambiance. Service was ok, but clearly just a lot of "younger" folks running around not really knowing what to do. It's fine so just be ready for that kind of service. Food was pretty good and my favs were the Shrimp Dumplings, Shumai (really good), and Lomein noodles. Soup Dumplings and Pork "sasui" Bao didn't have much flavor so I'll pass on that next time. Overall, it was A-OK and I'll be back to try it again. Hopefully, it will just continue to get better. read more

Prices not cheap. Food was good. Tried several Dim Sum choices. Bottom line, a dumpling is a dumpling, no matter how you shape it. Good thing I love them! Would've tried more if prices for each were better. Didn't quite get enough for a "meal". Service ok. Table was dirty & sticky. Yuck factor there. Typical oriental restaurant ambiance. Nothing to rave about. read more

I had a craving for dim sum and stopped here on the way home from a hike. It hit the spot but it wasn't the best dim sum I've had in the Tampa Bay Area. It's a bit pricier than some other local spots but I'm not sure the ingredients or flavors make it worth the cost difference. The baked pork buns had a crackle crust on top that you'd usually see on top of a pineapple bun, which was interesting but I wouldn't say I like it. The Shanghai dumplings were good and the siu Mai was nice and meaty. read more

We found this place close to our hotel for dinner. We were quickly seated and told to mark on the menu what we wanted. They also offer a regular menu of appetizers, soups, noodles and entrees. Unfortunately three of the dim sum items we wanted were sold out. We ordered the spare ribs in black bean sauce, Shanghai dumplings, steamed bbq pork buns, house fried rice and chicken & broccoli. The dim sum came out quickly and was very hot. They were all good but not exceptional. The house fried rice was really good, flavorful and lots of ingredients. The chicken and broccoli was excellent. The chicken was cooked perfectly and was loaded with fresh broccoli, carrots and slices of ginger. The garlic brown sauce was delicious! We ended with the fried sesame balls and those were also really good. Again served very hot and crispy with a sweet soft inside perfect for dessert. Overall a nice dinner and somewhere I will definitely return to. read more

We tried this place for lunch today. What a find! Fantastic Chinese and Pana-Asian food. Crab Rangoon with the surprising and unmistakable flavor of actual crab. Actual crab! Don't know where else in Sarasota you can get this. The shrimp balls with crispy noodles were excellent and the pineapple custard buns were to die for. We enjoyed a few noodle dishes and noted that they did seafood especially well in these meals. Perfectly cooked, tender shrimp and calamari. Singapore noodles went a bit heavy on the curry flavor. (Fine with me, but if you don't like tumeric, be forewarned.) The service was courteous and prompt as well. The environment is modest but impeccably clean. Noticed some other reviews complained about the paper plates. Of course this was a pandemic-related precaution used by numerous restaurants with responsible and considerate owners. Not sure why anyone would complain about a business being too concerned about the health and welfare of their customers. Love, love, love this place! Will definitely come back whenever I'm in town again! read more
