I had a bunch of old vhs and 8mm tapes I wanted to convert to digital format. DiJiFi had a very easy to navigate website that allowed me to figure out how much it would cost. I liked everything I saw so decided to go with them. I needed the videos to make it in time for a holiday present, so I used their rush-fee service (which was well worth the cost!) The quality was excellent, the total cost was reasonable, and I was extremely happy to finally have everything converted to be able to share with family and friends. I highly recommend them. You can do everything by mail, but if you want to go in person (like I did), their location is really easy to get to by walking from the 7 train Vernon Jackson station. They did an excellent job of converting my 8mm home movies from the 1970s to HD video. It is where I will go to when I'm ready to digitize my old still photos and negatives. The staff is professional, friendly, helpful, and patient. The only downside is that they had a three week backlog when I went. But they were up front with that, and delivered on time, and came in below their price quote. And when I came in with my hard drive to pick up my files and they didn't fit because they individually were too large (my mistake), on the spot they edited the files down to size for me, without hesitation, so I woundn't have to come back another time. it's a nine block walk to the closest subway stop: Greenpoint Av stop on the G Train, for what it's worth. read more

DiJiFi is as good as it gets. I discovered a precious 8 mm reel from 1972 that had been lost for 40 years - my adolescent effort at film production. The reel included priceless footage of family members who were never filmed otherwise and who since died. After quite a bit of research into where to take the reel for safe transfer to DVD, I decided on DiJiFi. Part of the reason was as the result of the patience, courteousness and knowledge displayed by the employee who took the time to explain things and answer all my questions over the phone. The shop in Brooklyn is spacious and very clean. The customer service was outstanding from drop-off to pick-up. The price was fine (I could have been a little more assertive asking in advance what the total price would be, but it was still reasonable). I used Digify to scan about 50 old family photos. I paid extra to have the photos digitally enhanced. I was very disappointed with the results. Initially I thought the process would be much quicker, it took a few weeks. The results were very mediocre. I realized I could do better myself. For less than of the cost of the digitizing, I bought my own scanner, and the results are far superior. Would not recommend this company or use them again. read more

I'm such a fan of this place. I get my super8 film developed at a spot in Manhattan and then take it straight to Greenpoint for Dijifi to transfer onto discs. They're really nice, fast, and they scan the film instead of just projecting it onto a screen and recording it- it's much better quality. Watercolors are notably difficult to digitize--they often lose detail in scanning. Carlos did an amazing job with both my recent orders. I was impressed with the level of detail retained through the digitization. Highly recommend. read more

Even though I live in California, I heard about the service and quality of DiJiFi and decided to give them a try I've had DiJiFi convert everything from slides that my wife shot in 1967 on a trip in Europe to audio tapes of my son's babtism to old family photos dating from the early 1900's that needed some touch up work and they have always done a terrific job. Unlike some of the larger firms, these guys actually look at and listen to the final product. And the turnaround time is great. Given the reviews from others, I plan to box up some 8 mm films that were taken in the early 1960's and get them into a digital format before they fall apart! read more

Using this company to get your old videos transferred is a total no brainer. I'd use them again and highly recommend them. I had old camcorder footage of my family in Spain on about twenty old PAL Video8 tapes from the 1980/90s. I read up a bunch on how to do the transfers, decided I was going to hire someone to do it instead of doing it myself, and searched a bunch of sites for companies who do this, both local and mail-order. After reading Yelp reviews, I emailed DiJiFi some questions. Jessie responded right away and made suggestions as to how to do the transfers. He even recommended a way for me to save a bit on the transfer by doing an optional conversion on my own computer after the fact instead of having them do it. Seriously, who suggests to a customer a way to save a little bit nowadays, especially in NYC!? Outstanding, trustworthy service. Responsive to another question I had later, too. Friendly. Punctual in both pick-up, completion and drop-off. Their price is also very competitive based on my research. The videos look good. I have used DiJiFi for a couple of slide scanning and 8mm film transfer jobs and was, at first, impressed with their work. But while they have the tools--and possibly talent--to do great work, their customer service is TERRIBLE, and they have been unable and unwilling to fix several problems with my most recent order. By now, I have given (and referred) thousands of dollars in business to DiJiFi, and I wish I could take it all back. For my most recent order, I paid in full and then discovered that many aspects of the film transfer were screwed up; I asked them to fix it, which took another 6 weeks. The "fixes" didn't address the underlying issues, and now nobody from DiJiFi will return my emails or phone calls. I have been exceedingly patient, and have given them many opportunities to address/correct the situation...but it has been many months since my initial order, and now accept that this is a lost cause...I'll just have to live with the very costly and sub-par transfers they delivered in the first place. read more

I have been asking my parents for years to transfer their old 8mm and Super8 films (from their yearlong honeymoon in Europe in 1956, on up through the birth of their children and our subsequent family vacations up through the early 1970s) transferred to something digital for years now. But I never knew where to go. Sadly, my mother died before I stumbled across DiJiFi last year, and was finally able to convert over 60 reels of these 50-year-old movies. DiJiFi was nothing short of exceptional every step of the way: careful, kind, considerate of my fear at handing over these priceless rolls. And the end result was just marvelous. Truly. Their work was efficient, and of a fine quality and reasonable price. And the level of consideration they demonstrated really touched me. I had tried to organize the reels into a proper chronology, and the technicians doing the work actually called me at one point to say they had found some discrepancies in the timeline...did I want to come back and have a look with them before they finalized their work for me? Wonderfully thoughtful. My father is old and frail and nearly blind, and misses my late mother terribly. I wanted these films digitized as a gift for him, so he could see my mother again, in some small way. For the last two years, I have had all of the 16mm and Super8 color and b/w that I have shoot for my studio projects transferred to HD video (Raw service level) at DiJiFi. Not only is their work excellent and cost-efficient - but the staff and environment is just so friendly, welcoming, and accommodating. In digital transfers of film (particularly in New York City) I have found very very low cost back-door transfer services that will do the work but at a quality that is simply unacceptable and then of course the outrageously priced liquid gate transfers that are of great quality, but just unreachable in terms of cost for most artists and archives working with film who are not showing work in the world's blue-chip gallery and museum spaces. What DiJiFi manages to do - in a way that is truly remarkable given the precarious circumstances that surround using film in the 2010s and beyond - is to find the perfect sweet spot of high-quality and cost efficiency for this kind of work. I have shown digital copies of my films to other filmmakers during studio visits and one of the reactions that always comes up is 'where did you get this transferred? it must have cost a fortune...' and are shocked when they learn how reasonably priced the transfers actually cost. I feel lucky to have their services available to me - it is DiJiFi and very few similar small businesses in the country that allow artists like myself to continue a practice that involves film. I will be bringing my films to them for as long as both they and I are operating. I recommend DiJiFi unequivocally to anyone seeking to get a superb quality digitization of their analog material. Also, regarding the location which some reviews have mentioned as being too off the beaten path - I usually use my trip to DiJiFi as an excuse to visit MoMA PS1 just across the bridge in LIC and/or Light Industry and The Picture Show (both small venues for showing experimental and artists films in Greenpoint. read more

I used DiJiFi for a project worth over $10,000, and if I could go back, I wouldn't have done it. The staff were incredibly nice and the work product was usually pretty good. That said, every time we called to follow up on a project or a deadline, we were given a hard time. I think the reviews on Yelp will confirm that this is a good business, and I can't disagree completely- But only for a certain type of project - one-offs. Not recommended for regular use or large products. Was not treated as a highly paying customer should be, and I don't think they're organized enough to be able to handle large clients. read more

A few years ago I retrieved 70 rolls of 8mm family movies from my Dad's apartment and brought them to DiJiFi. I wanted high quality editable digital files and thought it was worth paying the premium price instead of getting the cheap Costco transfers. This was a cherished archive of family events beginning with 16 mm black and white prints of my parents 1946 wedding and all major life events, family vacations, etc. up to the 1970s. Some films were on the verge of decay. The folks at DiJiFi could not have been more courteous, helpful, patient, and professional. The transfers look great and the entire family loves watching these glimpses of the past especially with 95 year old Dad. When We located another couple of hundred feet of film last year, I ran them right over to DiJiFi and got the same wonderful service. In early December my wife found some old format video cassettes of her dance performances and choreography from college in the 1980s. Digifi was very pleasant to deal with. They converted an old 8mm film that was only 3 min long but very important to me and they are very trust worthy. However, the finished product was a digital file that was over 1gb in size. As a result, I cannot upload to video & social media sites. I wish the file size was much much smaller. I have exported bigger movies in HD for just a few megabytes. I now have to due extra work to get the file size down. read more

I had uncovered some reel-to-reel tapes that were recordings of my great-grandfather who had written his autobiography as a Methodist prairie preacher who had emigrated to the 'Dakota Territory' from Canada in the 1880s. His book was published in the 50's and apparently there were recordings of interviews of him about his book (that I previously knew nothing about). I had these tapes from my Mother for several years and finally got around to trying to listen to them, but the sound quality was awful but I could make out that it was my great-grandfather telling his story (although it seemed there were two conversations going on at the same time). Not knowing much about this sort of thing, I contacted DijiFi, they understood the issue and for a very reasonable price took the 7" tape and detangled the audio, and sent me two .wav files in a week! I was OVERJOYED! It's remarkable! I can hear my grandfather sometimes chiming in on the recording his voice so much younger of course than my recollection, but I recognize his voice! This truly was a miracle and DijiFi did an awesome, awesome job! I highly recommend the DijiFi Team and I have more reel-to-reel tapes I'm now going to send their way! read more

After I got my photos scanned, I sent a 70-years-old 16mm film roll to be converted into a digital video. I'll update my review if I experience any trouble.
