Truly my very first time leaving a yelp review. This place is trash. I paid A LOT of money for a class package that I was very excited about. When I showed up for my first class (after receiving a confirmation the day before) there was no one there. I called and emailed and got no response. This was a Sunday and I didn't hear back till Tuesday. The owner claimed it was a last minute cancellation and offered to reschedule. I demanded a refund and have not heard back since. It's been two weeks. I have emailed like 7 times. Called. Messaged them in IG (which is updated constantly) and still nothing. They claim to be all about "community and connection" and have me literally begging to be treated with decency. I am livid and will absolutely not let them get away with this but I wanted to warn everyone so they don't have to spend their money and time dealing with these people read more

Not the best, but not the worst either! I've never had any issues with leaving my film here, but my needs are rather basic. I think the film gets processed by volunteers, so bear that in mind if you have important rolls. read more

From all the times I dropped off rolls to be developed and scanned here they have always been late. Wont provide an update, won't pick up the phone, in fact I believe they blocked my number because after calling several times my calls started going straight to the voicemail which is full so can't leave any messages. On top of the lack of professionalism, the scans always come back with very questionable quality. If you care for your photos take your rolls somewhere else. read more

My friends and I take a yearly trip to an out of town football game and this year we decided to bring a disposable camera to document the trip. We decided to get the film developed here and that was a grave mistake. We have just been informed that they have lost everything and have no idea where the film went. Then they had the audacity to offer us 20% off coupon for the next time we got film developed there. LOL what a slap in the face. Be very carful if you ever decide to use this joke of an establishment. I'm all for supporting local businesses but not this one. CVS/Walgreens will be my go to spot from now on. read more

Thugs place is a straight joke. I've been burned here to many times with ditzy careless processing but today takes the cake. All we wanted was processing of a few 35mm rolls, cut. It was picked up UN cut and held together with PAPER CLIPS which bent the negatives. See photo. Not only that, but they are smeared with drip residue, fingerprints AND scratches. The customer in front of us was complaining about the exact same handling. I'm really disappointed that they are running their business this way. Until they learn how to handle film, they should close their doors. We called to speak to the owner and she stated that the film was messed up do to our camera, causing leaks ( the leaks were intentional ) Whether the camera is malfunctioning or the film is bunk or not, the negatives should still be treated properly. We're paying for it. We'll be taking our future processing back to Luster in the east village, they handle our film with integrity and high quality. It's worth the trip.. read more

If you are expecting a good darkroom experience, stay away from this place. Their business hour supposed to begin at 6pm and few of us ended up waiting 30min for the staff to come open the door. Then two staff who worked there basically had zero knowledge on darkroom and couldn't even handle other costumers drop off service. All the costumers in the store couldn't help rolling eyes and shaking heads. I don't even recommend ppl to send the film to them to develop. One of the staff who in charge of developing didn't even know how to load the film properly... Apart from the staff, the darkroom equipments are so so. They would use iron tongs in the trays which scratched my prints. Anyway, if you are looking for a place to get some unimportant print work done, this place might be good for you. But if you are hoping to make a good print, stay away! read more

f this place. they gave me someone else's scanned photos and never gave me my actual roll that i paid for. that's a huge violation of privacy. imagine taking photos and someone else receiving your jpgs or vice versa. ive worked with some very professional labs back in california and mixing up negatives is EXTREMELY unprofessional. i emailed twice and called a bunch if times no answers. finally when someone picked up it was a volunteer who said "idk all these images seem like they were shot by the same person." This human was actually trying to argue with me on the images I took. what kinda fuckery is this? not to mention...i went here on a 95 degree day and there was no AC in the front desk. having negatives be handled in a warm environment ruins your photos. ***months later. they actually called me saying they were wrong and eventually emailed me my scans. MONTHS later after telling me i was wrong. Don't go here. Bunch of pseudo artsy bullshit ppl running this mockery of a place. read more

Sent in 2 rolls on June 2, the promised finish date was June 9. I didn't get my photos till June 17, during which none of my emails are replied and didn't get any explanation on why the process took so long. I understand there's a global pandemic currently, but if the business does not have the capacity to operate then they should just turn some of their customer away rather than taking their films and disappearing for 2 weeks. The photos come out great though, and the scanning was good, that's only reason why I'm giving 3 stars. read more

12/27 at 6:30 p.m. - I've been coming here for awhile spent some good money here, but tonight was the last straw. They had no sign on the door or anywhere that were closing "early for the New Year" (on the 27th). I got to the location before their posted closing time, knocked and called. I was standing outside with two other customers who were just as confused as I was when someone opened the door. Their door has a tendency to get jammed sometimes (that's how often I come here), so who can blame me for thinking they're probably open. The woman I spoke to was pretty rude and somewhat angry before I could say anything, even though a piece of paper on the door said "we are open." After her confrontational behavior I basically told her that I would take my film elsewhere and she said "great!" with a thumbs-up. It was ridiculous to go out of my way to reach my go-to film developing shop, they didn't post a change of hours online, then to talk to someone who's angry at ME? This just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Goodbye, BCD. read more

If you care about your film don't do it. Like SERIOUSLY, please, for your film, don't do it. No email responses, they don't pick up the phone, they scanned half my negatives when I didn't ask them to and the scans were awful. Cherry on top was that they rolled my negatives back into the canister which scratched them to HELL, thanks BCD, every photographer dreams of giant scratch lines through the face of their subject! And then I was just informed by my friend that they did not process 3 rolls correctly and are sorry for the error (which then encouraged me to express my feelings)...that's 108 photos. 108 ideas, thoughts, feelings, minutes, hours, time, art, whatever you want to call it 108 pieces that will never been seen or get back because of the neglect that was shown to them by the BCD staff. I've been using this space for a couple years now and would have to say this place is a gem. To have a space to process your film and make prints yourself or for drop off is amazing. Also the emphasis on "Community" because with so many talented photographers using the space and friendly to talk to about their work/processes and to have critique on your own is hard to come by. Submitted a photo for a gallery that they did months back. I told them the week of when the show was over that I couldn't come get the piece. After 38 emails, they still haven't returned my messages. I went there in person and all I got was someone shooting me down saying that they couldn't help me. And now they have the nerve to charge people who want to enter into their gallery exhibitions. Really, really not happy with this place. I was excited to support a local analog endeavor but not when the owner acts like this. read more

I'm giving them 3 stars for effort. I love what they are doing, but overall its hit or miss. I've had scratched film, stains from underdevelopment, errors in my order, confusion looking for my negatives. I used the color darkroom once and it was kind of a mess but fully functional, I might go back for that. BCD is in my neighborhood and when I walk by I see them having gallery shows which I think is really cool. If you're new/curious about film and enlargement I would check them out. If you want professional development/scanning of your film, go somewhere else. read more

DO NOT USE - GO TO ELIZ DIGITAL INSTEAD! Extremely slow and terrible customer service - expect about a week in between each email. I paid for a couple rolls of film to be developed and when I hadn't heard back for a couple weeks, I contacted them about the issue. They assured me they had developed my film but have such godawful file management that they could not locate my scans to send to me. On top of this, they refused to refund my order. Keith and Kaleb are incredibly helpful. The dark room and developing equipment is all here and super easy to use. What you don't know they will help you figure out. They have all the chemicals you need to sort out our developing need. The best part is the large developing tanks that allow you to develop 5-10 rolls at once. they also have a new machine to develop C-41 film with so while you develop your black and white stuff they will take care of the color for you. read more

Avoid this place at all costs. The place is a mess, they mishandle scans and prints constantly. Don't even try mentioning a problem to lucia as she will completely disregard and tell you take your business elsewhere while being cursed at! I would say to go to kubus, gowanus dark room or even luster in nyc before coming here. read more

It's really wonderful to have such an amazing resource right down the street. Without it, myself and so many others wouldn't have any darkroom access whatsoever. After a few years away from film photography I was pretty rusty but Lucia and the other volunteers create a supportive and helpful atmosphere that makes beginners and newcomers feel welcome. I wish I had read reviews before I sent in my films. Tried them once for a colored film and was quite satisfied. And that is what caused me to be careless about them. Recently sent in 1 colored and 5 B/W films to be developed and scanned. The colored one was ok. but the BWs are total disaster. They were scanned as RGB with size less than 1M, so you can't practically do any quality PS with them (but paid for the service! for nothing)! Worst, when questioned them why the scanned BW images were so foggy, they told me that it is due to underexposure and they don't do retouch! scanned BW in RGB rather than grayscale with 1m size is a serious quality issue, having nothing to do with exposure or retouch! I am still waiting for my film to be mailed back. I hope the low contrast were not cause by them mis processing the film in CN chemicals! Do not trust those positive reviews. Their price is not low at all. I will go back to Luster Photo. read more

They had scanned my film when I didn't want them to (develop only) and then when I went to pick it up it was nowhere to be found. The manager was incredibly rude saying "I'm trying to find your film" aggressively and never once apologizing. She also said that it'd been there two weeks and I had a lot of emails in the system (they're a business so these shouldn't be issues). The film was nowhere to be found and I was told "at least you have the scans" which I didn't want because they were terribly scanned. The man was very helpful inside but the owner herself was terribly rude and made me feel stupid. I got a refund on the film and the one I was going to drop off that day but that doesn't make up for the images I will not have back or the rolls initial cost. Left crying and sad. Don't go here. Traveled 45min for literally nothing. read more

The person who works here is too cool & busy to process your film. She will take it and will be really unhappy when you return because she is too cool & busy to get to it on her list of cool things to do that day. I had heard this information from a friend who needed to process some 120 film but I recently decided to experience this waste of time firsthand. When I first went, I wasn't sure where to start -- I had processed bw film but not printed in the darkroom -- but Lucia was such a great teacher she got me up and running in like 10 minutes. I was really thrilled with the results; seeing these gorgeous prints of my pictures was such a thrill, plus I had made them myself! So much better than a computer screen, and it's way easier to do than I ever imagined. read more

I went on a Saturday afternoon to drop off negatives for 4 8x10 color analog prints. I went in with reasonable confidence that I would get decent prints. When I dropped off my negatives I made it clear that I didn't want my negatives scanned and printed from an ink jet printer - I specifically said I wanted analog prints. I told them I need the prints by Thursday the following week the latest (needed them in a show for Friday). I called them Wednesday to check in and they said they'd be ready by noon on Thursday. Called on Thursday to double check and they said they'd be ready by 7pm. I arrived at 745pm to be told that they weren't ready and that I'd have to wait until 930pm. They did finish my 930 but I had to remind them that they had my negatives. I didn't check the prints at the shop because I was tired and already flustered. When I returned home I realised that the prints were nothing that I asked for. I received BORDERLESS, extremely POOR QUALITY prints that were clearly NOT analog prints and had been quickly scanned and then printed from a color inkjet printer. 4 awful prints for $90! I could have done this at home with much better results. I plan on returning to the place to a. Get my money back or b. Get some decent prints. Incredibly disappointed. read more

I'd like to say this place really get's the job done.. but it doesn't. The only convenient attribute about this place is that their prices are cheap- mostly because they do a cheap job. I've been coming here for over a year now- and I am more and more disappointed with each drop off. If you're developing film for work under tight deadlines rather than leisure- DON'T COME HERE!! A bunch of film noobs who just want to get experience with film- are getting the experience with your rolls. Scanning them incorrectly, cropping images off. I shouldn't have to make calling back for a re scan a habit- but with this place it's truly never ending. Especially when I pay EXTRA for rush... and I have to call to find out that their machine has been broken for 3 days- but they didn't bother letting me know that upon drop off. Employees ( or should I say volunteers) don't know what the hell they are doing- or what i'm even talking about when I tell them my rolls were shot on a 3D camera- they look at me like I am speaking a different language when I kindly ask them to note that their are 2 photos per 1 frame- and to make sure not to CROP THEM AT ALL OR IT WILL RUIN THE EFFECT OF THE PHOTO IN POST EDIT. I have ALSO received my negatives cut. Legit cut. Which means I can't get them re scanned correctly at other places. I have missed so many important deadlines because this place can't get the job done right THE FIRST TIME. avoid this place. I highly advise going out of your way and making the trip to Manhattan where people do it right. Tried to give BCD the benefit of the doubt- but after a year of countless re scans.. It's safe to say i'm over it and will pay more for a better job done, somewhere else. Hope you guys get it together someday soon. read more

I wanted to check this place and gave them a roll to process. It took two days instead of promised - one. Plus long weekend made it 5 days. When I got the film back, there were stains of chemicals on it. I washed it myself, but I could not get rid of some small stains, which seem to be film damages.
