Came in just to get my passport photos done since it's always better to actually go to a photo service place then places like CVS which sometimes mess up the photos unfortunately plus the price is pretty much the same but better quality here. The girl who helped me and also took my passport photo was very nice and helpful. Also the place has some seating and you only have to wait few minutes to get your photos done. The whole process was very smooth and quick. I'm definitely coming back here for future passport photos. read more

I have also gotten a passport photo taken here (great photo!) and when I had an issue with my camera they were happy to look at it and help me with the problem. I have been going here for several months now and have always had good experiences. The staff is always friendly and helpful. My last roll I tried developing there was completely ruined so they gave me a partial refund. The turnaround time for film is always fairly fast (1-3 days). It was $27 for 2 rolls of film for me today. I do not know if that is comparable or not to other places in the area. read more

By far the rudest photographer... I am Polish, so for starters color of skin and or nationality do not matter in this place... they are not picky they are just rude. Guy took three photos of me for American passport and complained pretty much how asymmetrical my face is. Also made me take off my small golden earrings because apparently the government of US cares about that. He was rushing me and made me extremely uncomfortable I paid but I went and had picture taken in another place and guy was friendly allowed me to have earrings on and even bit of a smile. No complaints about my ugly asymmetrical face and photos came out better. Kubus photo is a Miserable place ran by miserable people... stay away. Oh and behind me was an American customer and the polish photographer was cursing him out in polish and calling his stupid. Over all left terrible taste in my mouth. Honestly the worst service ever from a film shop, older woman at front counter was super impolite from the moment I walked in. I was asking questions regarding the film and she kept looking at my like I was slow and hesitant to answer any of my questions. Other people of a different race card in (I'm African American) and she was much more friendly to them. I bought a few things but wish I hadn't since she couldn't even say thank you or anything to me when I was leaving. Never coming here again. Kubus photo is great for affordable develop & scans, and quick turnaround times. I have developed over 40 35mm rolls here, every time a 3 day turnaround & no problems. I even publishes a book of film photography all from photos developed at Kubus! Staff has always been very polite, quick, and helpful to answering my questions. They even carry Portra 400 film! I feel badly for all the 1 star reviews. I urge photographers to at least check the spot out & see for themselves how the experience is. Thank you Kubus for all the great work! read more

Rude staff. Mediocre service. They do a disservice to small business owners and their community. I was a longtime loyal customer, and I can no longer excuse their behavior. For instance-- Asked for doubles. My partner heard me. I return a few days later. Only received single prints. They claim I'm wrong. They offer zero sympathy or customer service to cover their mess up and expect me to pay an astronomical amount to rectify things. Don't waste your time here. Honestly was surprised at how rude the ladies at the store are. But I could get past that if they actually did a good job scanning my roll. The quality was sub-par and the file size was enormous (5mb per image). I had way better service at Elizebeth Photo in Chinatown. They're incredibly friendly and they transfer scans within hours on WeTransfer. The quality is always great and they keep the file size low (500kb per image). Worth the trek to Manhattan instead of this local spot. read more

They're open until 7 and signs all say they do digital photo service until 7 but beware they only do passport photos until 6. I was in line at 6 and 6:02 they told me too late. They need to be clear in their advertising. read more

I was hesitant to go get my film developed here because of all the negative reviews, but I am glad I did! I've gotten my film developed here a couple times already and have had a good experience each time. I was helped by the same woman, who is always extremely pleasant and friendly. I went here to get a passport photo taken. I called ahead and they had a better price ($10) than the two other places I checked in the area, so I walked on over and it was a very pleasant experience! They took just a few minutes to get things set up and then were snapping away. They kindly directed me into the right pose and then took a bunch of photos. They consulted amongst themselves and then showed me the one they felt was best, but made sure that I was happy with it as well. It took them just a few minutes to print me two copies and then I was done! Easy, quick, and friendly. read more

I have been to Kubus multiple times. Since I lived in neighborhood, it was convenient for me to go there but each experience seemed to get worse and worse. Recently, I went there with my one year old son to get his passport photo taken and it was the most unprofessional experience. Since the second we walked in, the owner was very rude. When he was taking photos of my son, he was yelling at both my son and I. He was also complaining that my son is at a bad age to take photos. My son started to get scared and I was trying to get him to stay still, cheer him up and get him to look at the camera but the photographer was just yelling at me to stop and to get away. I am a big believer of supporting local businesses but this place will never get business from me anymore. Absolutely awful. read more

I live in Greenpoint and used to go to Kubus, but ever since I switched to Accurate in Park/South Slope I'm much less inclined to go back here. Even though it's farther and a little more expensive, Accurate gets you scanned negatives same day AND sends a link rather than using a USB (who even has USB drives anymore?). Not to mention they are comically rude at Kubus. We get it, you're Polish. Quality is alright, but unless I was in some sort of photo emergency I will pass on this place. read more

Staff is EXTREMELY rude and lazy. The girl gave me a hard time when I tried to pay upfront, i had some film digitized and it was a complete waste of time and money. They didn't bother to clean the film before scanning and it was scanned with a lot of dust. Don't bother going in there. Do yourself a favor and go to Pro Image Photo instead. read more

Horrible shop. Have been going for over a year out of my instincts to support local business but after multiple mistakes, bad develops, and uncalled for "lectures" from their grumpy owner... Im taking my business elsewhere. They also have a ridiculous stipulation on scanning photos to your own USB, where, if your USB is not formatted to an ancient Windows desktop format, they cancel the develop, and make you buy one of their USBs. Its happened 3 times in a row, where I go back with the USB I bought from them, and the old man will yell at me for "changing the format" making it unable for them to develop. The owner is a jerk! Used to come here all the time and will never return. Take your rolls of film to B and H!! He ruined an entire role of photos I can never get back of my trip from Aspen Colorado. He developed the first photo and then botched the entire role and then yelled at me and asked me my age. When I said 37 he said "I am old Enough to be your daddy, now never come back to my shop again!" I won't and you should not either. On top of that he tried to charge me money for the roll. I have a terrible review of their commucation skills. I scanned my films there and asked them to put in a USB. They out all my films on the cd, which is hard to find cd drivers these days. And charged me about this. I didn't ask for my money back. I called them to how we can fix this sutation and ask them can I come to the store and bring my USB and request help for fixing this process. The rudest woman I talked on the phone told me she couldn't help. I need to pay more. What she is telling me you need to pay more without offering any solution. I am trying to support their small business, but the Kubus team so so rude. read more

Unfortunately, their prices are now insane. One of the priciest in the city. Was my go-to spot for years, not anymore. Also, 120 negatives always come back dirty from them. Mine all have watermarks and patterns from not being cleaned properly. So now I have to go through a whole separate step to clean my negatives on my own so I'll have something usable to scan. I called ahead of time to ask if they have portra 800, I drive all the way there from across the city only to be mocked in Polish and told they only take cash. Told me "it's not my fault you don't know how to read" when I inquired about why I was missing all the prints from a disposable camera I dropped off. I will be honest, since I know how important photos and good negatives can be. Kubus gets its 3 stars because it is super quick, and super cheap. That's about it though. On every ocassion I have developed here, I see severe signs of neglect in my negatives. Water blots, light leaks, fingerprints, dust. All kinds of dirty sh*t. I know, you get what you pay for. I go to Kubus only if the photos I'm developing are as unimportant and pedestrian to submit them to the hands of this film guzzling monster. Also the ladies working here are always so unpleasant to talk to -- granted this has been said on this board before so I will not dwelve into the subject. My negatives from here always look like they were done in a college dorm, which depending on the photos is something I don't mind because of the huge markdown. Bottom line: You do get what you pay for and with Kubus this us entirely true. Buyer beware. read more

They gave me a blank CD for which I paid $10 for, and they wouldn't give me another CD or let me put the pictures on a USB. Of course, all whilst being extremely rude. Never have I been ripped off so hard. Don't expect quality or stellar development service here. The reason I keep going back is for the cheap prices and quick turn around time. If you got precious rolls to develop I recommend going elsewhere and paying more. I've had my fair share of messed up film development but thankfully they were test shots and I didn't mind fixing up the dust marks. Regarding customer service-- they keep it real and take no bs.
