Yes! Yes! LOVED this place! There was a really nice solo exhibition on display up front, with a smaller exhibition in the back hallway leading to an awesome backyard to chill and connect with other photographers. As a super-newb to film photography, the staff (Keith) was very helpful in answering questions and accommodating too! Loved their service offerings, and had a great selection of film priced at very reasonable rates, as was the film processing services (they're partnered with Brooklyn-based Nice Film Lab). Really disappointing experience here. My sister purchased a film camera here for the first time, and the employees helped her find a camera that they said was durable and user-friendly. Unfortunately, the camera unexpectedly broke 3.5 months after she purchased it. The store has a 3-month warranty, but as hers broke a few days after it ran out, her only option was to buy a new full-price camera. She spent over $200 on the one she bought, and she bought it as a gift to herself for a major birthday. Posting this to warn others about this before they buy from here, as this experience was very upsetting, and it was very disappointing that the store was unable to offer any help when the camera she bought broke such a short time after it was purchased. read more

I am deeply disappointed with the unprofessionalism and deceit I experienced with Brooklyn Film Camera. I sent my cherished camera, a gift from my grandfather, to have the leather redone and specifically requested that only the bottom hinge part below the PVC board be touched, along with a written note to retain the original Polaroid flash instructions. When my camera was returned, it had a 3D-printed top housing and the flash instructions from a completely different model, the Polaroid SX-70. My explicit instructions were ignored, and my camera was altered without my consent. When I contacted Brooklyn Film Camera to rectify the situation, Kyle, the manager, offered to replace the parts with original ones and even sent a photo of the replacement back housing from a Polaroid 680. He also promised to replace the 3D-printed top housing with the original, which was cracked but still preferred over the low-quality 3D print. I shipped my camera back for the second time, hoping for the promised resolution. However, upon receiving my camera two weeks later, I found that the 3D-printed top housing was still in place. Additionally, the back housing was not replaced with the promised Polaroid 680 part; instead, the SX-70 back housing remained, adorned with a custom sticker. When I called to address these issues, I was met with rudeness and told there was nothing more they could do before the call was abruptly ended. This company has left me with a camera containing non-original parts, failing to rectify their mistakes despite clear promises. Their actions have resulted in the destruction of a sentimental item. This review aims to warn others about the deceptive practices and lack of accountability at Brooklyn Film Camera. Their replacement of original parts with those from different serial numbers is not just unprofessional but borders on criminal mischief. For those considering their services, be cautious. I have included photos as proof of this matter in my review. *Update: a "Class Action lawsuit" is in the wood works for all the parties that have been injured and suffered a loss in the criminal acts this company has been committing. Truly at a loss for words for how amazed I am by the techs at BFC. Kyle went out of his way to call me back after hours when my film camera I brought on vacation with me crapped out and he took the time to inform me on all of the cameras they had in stock. After drooling over the plethora of goodies in the space, I finally let Kyle talk me into getting the Pentax K1000 and instantly fell in love. Upon picking up the camera he was more than happy to give me a crash course on how the camera operates, and once again I let him talk me into getting even more goodies which I was more than happy to do, these guys got great prices for being in the city. I love what they got going on in there and definitely recommend you give this spot a try if you're a film freak, they got a little something for everyone. read more

Just as others have had happen to them, they bought my camera on ebay (a vintage Nikon F3) under the name analogcamerasnyc, with the buyer name Kyle Depew, and the shipping address to the brooklyn store. Said the camera was damaged, and stupid me issued a return, with their money back, and a prepaid shipping return label - and bam - ghosted. No return of my camera, no reply to ebay messages. Sort these reviews by lowest and you'll see the same comments over and over again. My case is documented with the Fraud department at Ebay, lets see if Ebay will do something about it. These people are crooks, they order on ebay steal parts off cameras and then return to the seller and get a full refund. This is a big scam they have going on. If they have fixed your camera it's probably with stolen parts! read more

It's weird that a camera shop like this was once so common, but in the current era, it's a little hard to come by. Enter Brooklyn Film Camera, they sell Polaroid film and cameras, as well as other vintage cameras, 120 film, 35mm film, etc. They have some great rare accessories, batteries, custom modifications, it's pretty amazing. They also do camera repair and restoring, if you have an old Polaroid on the shelf that needs some TLC before it works again, this would be the place to bring it. Brooklyn Film Camera also does film development, really driving it home for a one stop shop for analog camera needs. They also curate events and have gallery showings (when there is no pandemic globally affecting the world), as well as running occasional contests to win some great merch. Stop by and tell 'em Matt sent ya and they'll be like "who?" Currently, due to the circumstances, they offer curbside pickup of anything you wish to pick up or drop off in person, else, they do have an online shop and can ship. read more

I rarely write reviews, but it is definitely worth mentioning how great the service at BFC is. I had the pleasure of talking with Claire, and she made sure to answer all of my questions, offer the best options for my SX-70's repair, and was transparent with me every step of the way. I opted to have the 600 conversion done, as well as the reskinning of the leather, and everything exceeded my expectations. My camera also needed to have the film door replaced, but Claire had let me know well in advance that there was a great possibility of that. The camera works phenomenally and I am so happy with having worked with BFC. Went to check out their new space in Williamsburg. Everything else aside, my partner & I were entirely ignored by the two people working in there -- spent 10 minutes or so looking around. Considered buying an SLR680 ($700+) but the two employees were far more concerned about their own conversation than they were about engaging with a customer. read more

Like many recently, I had my SX-70 under warranty ruined (sent it in after $200 refurbishment under warranty for a stuck shutter and then got it back completely non- functional - wouldn't power on with several film packs tried). Then was ghosted when trying to get it fixed. Based on recent reviews, it looks like they may be stripping cameras and then ghosting people, hoping to keep the cameras for parts. Scam, don't trust. Am out a $450 camera. Police should be involved. read more

My SX-70 underwent a full repair last year. I was not pleased with the results and voiced my concerns about exposure, focus and roller problems. Brooklyn did nothing but recite their "script" of excuses. After shooting 5 rolls of film the viewfinder jammed and would not open. When it did the baffles bent. I emailed Brooklyn and asked if they could please look into this problem for me. They NEVER responded. Have your camera repaired somewhere else. read more

Visited Brooklyn Film Camera when my husband wanted to check out some camera gear during a visit to Brooklyn. First of all, I was impressed with the sheer number of cameras in such a small space! My husband (who actually knows some things about cameras) was specifically impressed with the number of old Polaroid cameras and film they had - apparently a rare find at this point in our digital society. We found out that they also refurbish old cameras, which is pretty cool! The store itself is super cute and has top notch staff. They were approachable, not pushy at all, but rather seemed to have a genuine passion for the cameras and would be happy to just talk about the ones they had in stock all day. If Polaroids are your thing, I would definitely recommend checking them out. A word about hours - they have limited store hours so we got lucky finding them while they were open, but they said they have a ton of stock online and actually do most of their business that way. read more

I've been popping in here since this past fall and it's always been a pleasant experience. They offer a variety of film, film cameras (point-and-shoot, Polaroid, 35mm and Twin Lens) and are super helpful to answer my questions! I recently bought a Yashica 124 Twin Lens and am super happy with it. Not to mention if you ever have questions they are always willing to check out the camera for any follow-ups. Best part is that everyone that works here is SUPER friendly and passionate about photography. Very unprofessional organization. I sent my SX-70 Alpha SE to be refurbished. Ended up spending over $200 to have this done. Received the camera back and all of my shots were over exposed. I voiced my concern, and they agreed to take another look at the camera. I PAID TO SHIP IT BACK. After an extended period of time had passed without hearing back, I reached out for an update. I was told the technician was on vacation and they had not been able to get to my camera. More time passed, and I voiced my frustration. Eventually, I got the camera back and experienced the same issue with all of my shots being over exposed after shooting several packs of film. Again, I expressed my frustration about the camera not properly functioning. I was essentially told that it was "user error". I have been shooting film, and polaroid, for over three years now. I know what I am doing. I pretty gave up because Brooklyn Film camera wouldn't agree with me that something was wrong with the camera. Several months later, I figured I would put my animosity aside and try once more to have them look at the camera (since there is a one year warranty that comes with their offer). I received two response emails back, one again asking how I am operating the camera. I have not heard back since. So now I have a $200+ camera that just sits on my shelf. read more

Their team is super knowledgable about all things vintage camera related: this is the kind of hands-on info you can't really find by googling, and they are generous with advice even if it's not a product they are selling. In 2 minutes, they helped me figure out an issue with my SX-70 that had been stumping me for months. They seem to be doing most of their business online these days and only have a couple days with office hours but i try to catch them in person whenever possible - the vibe and advice is worth the trip - and have never had a problem parking out front. read more
