It was a revelation to watch Neil with my precious tapes. Each tape was a "living" thing to him, to relate to as a knowing friend, and thus understand how to minimize its faults and present its best qualities in the digital. He watched carefully on several different monitors, chose which pieces of his professional equipment were best suited to my videos, adjusted, watched and re-adjusted many dials. By this time his integrity, knowledge and high standards were very clear to me. But then something even more beyond my expectations occurred. 20 minutes into a tape, Neil saw indications on one of the monitors that the result could be more perfect with some different tweaking and he chose to go back to the beginning with those new adjustments. He was willing to offer that extra time under the same price quote in order to deliver the best quality product for me. It was at that point that I decided to pay beyond his quote, for his integrity, for the quality of his work, for his consistent above-and-beyonding. It is simple to copy digital to digital, computer bits to computer bits. I had a vague idea that video was not that simple. I can't say enough good things about this business. For a start, the owner is very kind and patient as well as clearly an expert. He has several decades of experience, an impressive array of equipment, and an encyclopedic understanding of each process and each issue you might encounter (e.g., problems with aging media), all of which he was thorough enough to share and explain during the first meeting. I had brought in a dozen videotapes of varying types and ages (concerts from the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's and later - all work by professional musicians) as well as audio reels of varying types from the 60's and 70's. He transferred them all to files (on a flash drive) which I can now easily upload to various websites. The quality is amazing - especially considering how reasonable his rates are. Neil is incredibly careful, but he still completed the job slightly sooner than he had predicted - amazing, given that many people are using this quarantine time to digitize, and he is quite busy! Very impressed with Digitize Media Services. I worked in TV many years ago and had a collection of various things I'd worked on, some on professional formats, some on VHS and S-VHS, and some PAL footage from something I did for RAI. I was looking to get everything converted to high quality MP4 files, Neal at Digitize did an awesome job. Extremely high quality up-conversion to Progressive HD MP4. Even the VHS tapes looked great, better than I've ever seen VHS look before. I had other quotes from other digitizing companies, but this place was the only one that could handle every format I had, including PAL digi-betas, and the only one using pro capture gear. Prices for vhs were a bit lower elsewhere, but that's kinda like saying that Walmart are cheaper than Prada. You want the best quality, you pay a bit more. I was in desperate need of finding a lab to create professional quality DVD and Bluerays screeners for film festivals. I found a couple of them but they were either too expensive or you had to put a big order for them to take on the job. But I was lucky enough to find Neil at Digitize Media Services NY. I called him up and he was the nicest guy you can hope to meet. He gave me two choices to either send him the master file/film over the internet or bring it in on a portable hard-drive. I send him the film over the internet. He created a couple of screeners for me which I already sent to the Cannes Film festival. Rare in NYC, he takes the time to deliver a professional result regardless of whether you are a commercial or personal client. In my case, I had a soundboard TDK audio tape from a 1982 performance that I had not listened to in 37 years. The plan was to burn three songs from the show to a CD and present as a holiday surprise to one of the show's artists. Neil did an amazing and thorough job with a large batch of mix media. He transferred VHS LP, VHS SP, and S-VHS properly. Also a couple of MiniDV and 8mm tapes were done as well. He devoted plenty of time to our pre transfer session and was accommodating to my custom needs. Picking up the files in person, he also devoted time to reviewing the final files with me.
