I had a great experience at DiJiFi this winter and I'm finally getting around to yelping it. I had two old cassette tapes that were never published on CD or made available as MP3 downloads, and I wanted to get them digitized before I wore them out. Yeah, I probably could have figured out how to do it on my own, but time is money too and it wasn't something I felt like doing. I went over there shortly before the winter holidays without bothering to find out if they were open and was dismayed (because it was raining cats and dogs) to find the door locked. So I buzzed their suite and a guy answered and told me they were closed (he was doing inventory or something) but that he could help me anyway. Woah! That's awesome. So I went in and explained what I needed done and he explained the pricing, options, and how long it would take and was super nice (especially considering they weren't even open for real). They finished converting my cassettes to MP3s faster than the estimate, and they called to let me know this. Went back to pick up my stuff and again met with a super nice person. I've worked with DiJiFi twice to transfer VHS tapes to digital hard drive. Both experiences were great and easy. They picked up and returned my things to Manhattan which was great (well worth the extra cost when I didn't meet the minimum the second time) and they always kept me up to date on the progress of my job. Other people might be cheaper, but this is important stuff and I think DiJiFi is a great value for the service and peace of mind they provide. I wouldn't go anywhere else. read more

They even dropped off everything for me in midtown, saving me a trip out to their studio. I had Dijifi scan my family's entire archives...thousands and thousands of photos, negatives, and other stuff. They did an *unbelievable* job. The quality was perfect (bright colors, high contrast, etc.), the staff was really easy to work with, they completed everything on schedule. Also, they managed to keep everything neatly organized in a hierarchy of folders on the CDs- just the way I wanted. I had compared prices with other companies, and these guys are pretty competitive. Great service to convert all kinds of videotapes. Pick up and drop off makes it super convenient. Turn around for the project was a little long at 3 months but considering I was holding onto the tapes for years it was worth the wait. I've used DiJiFi several times to digitize my family's old super-8 films so I can edit them together. They run a great service and put excellent care into the transfers, ensuring you're getting quality images despite all the decades-old dust and scratches (I recommend getting "Complete Service" for this reason). The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and I like the flexibility in their service plans. HOW DiJiFi CAME TO RESCUE OF MY BILL GATES INTERVIEW TAPE. In 1990, while writing a book on innovation, I was able to get a 45-minute interview with Bill Gates at his Redmond, WA home. I taped our conversation in his dining room using a small Sony cassette player/recorder placed on the table between us, about five feet from Gates--not exactly optimum for quality sound recording. Later when playing the tape back, sound quality was poor. The audio had hums and scratchy background noises. Gates's voice would dip weakly or jump in volume depending on if he was facing my crappy little Sony or turned away. But the audio was okay for confirming my handwritten notes. When done with the cassette I tossed it in a shoebox and forgot it. The next year, Simon & Schuster published my hardcover, "It Only Takes One: How to Create the Right Idea--and Then Make it Happen." The book did well for several years then (like most titles) drifted out of print. UNEXPECTED SURPRISE: In May 2016, Simon & Schuster wrote that they planned to reissue my title as a paperback and eBook. Nice news, but republished books don't get promotion budgets--any promotion would be left up to me. My first thought was to produce a 30-minute YouTube video featuring audio clips from the Gates interview; let techies hear the actual thoughts, words, and advice of the (then) 35-year-old genius who had gone on to become the world's richest man. One big problem: that lousy audio track. Was there an easy way to transfer it to a digital file and, in the process, clean up the track considerably? I FOUND DiJiFi BY READING REVIEWS: and traveled to Brooklyn to see their operation. You enter a small office building and walk into their ground-floor operation--it's an impressive sight: a couple of dozen people bustling around working intensely to transfer files. Within 3 minutes I was talking to a smart savvy tech guy named John Alexander Busi. I explained the problem with the track, and my hope to possibly clean up the noise and equalize the voices. He said he'd handle it personally and do what he could. A few days later (I used the rush service) I got the thumb drive back and anxiously played it. Holy cow. Alex had done an astounding job and the Bill Gates interview track now sounds like it was recorded on a sound stage. The cost was spectacularly reasonable. The service that Alex gave this customer was 5-star and included a follow-up email exchange to ask how it had worked out? And his delivery of attentive hands-on customer service was, apparently, not an exception at DiJiFi. LITERALLY WHILE WRITING THIS REVIEW, my phone rang. "Hi John, it's Mike from DiJiFi..." He was calling to tell me the other tapes and old movies I had left for no-rush service were ready and he needed to know if I used a Mac or PC. "We'll copy it to a thumb drive tomorrow morning," he said, "and ship it right out to you." It always gives me a small "thrill of discovery" when I find a high-quality, responsive, reasonably priced service resource (for anything) here in New York City. DiJiFi is my latest find. They were late with the product and expensive. I spent over $300 and the label on my DVD was not printed according to my specifications. There was no quotation mark on the title of the film. This may seem minor but the final product looked unprofessional as a result. They gave me a 10% discount but I just wanted the product I asked for and this didn't make a difference for me. I wanted to support a local business so I was willing to pay extra but will not be returning. I did not have the warm experience that other people had, it was very frustrating and disappointing. read more

I use these folks for all of my digitizing -- my hard copy photos were cumbersome to manage and deteriorating over time, so I had them all digitized; they did an excellent job at a reasonable price... the saying: cheap, fast, good -- pick any two, does not apply to them -- you can have it all. read more

I used DiJiFi on the recommendation of a knowledgeable friend, first to digitize some very old 8mm and 16mm family movies, and then to digitize a large box of photos. They met their time prediction and did a great job; I would use them again for any job where I cared about the quality of the result. The images and movies were clear and high-resolution, and they took excellent care to name the resulting files so it was easy to match them back to their source. They do cost more than some other services (e.g., Scancafe, I have not used them), so they may not be the best choice for a high-volume job. Their office in Greenpoint, Brooklyn is about a ten-minute walk from the subway entrance; parking is easy, so is biking. Greenpoint has other advantages, so if it's not your regular neighborhood it's a great reason to visit. read more

I needed a large black and white ink drawing from the 70s scanned. When I went to drop off the piece at Dijifi they mentioned that because of the fine lines in the drawing, there was a possibility of artifacts in the stiched scanned image that they might not be able to fix. I was a bit nervous about this as scanning jobs can be bit pricy.. I got the image today and it looks perfect -- no artifacts, just a very good high quality scan. They also said it would take three weeks, but when I told them I was leaving and needed the image straight away, they were able to change the turnaround time to a week. Overall customer service was quite good and the scan looks perfect. I was happy with Dijifi and would recommend to anyone in need of quality scanning services. read more
