Russell of DAT is AMAZING and if you ever need a new alarm system, I definitely recommend giving him a call! I initially called Russell only to inquire about installing cameras at my home and after helping me purchase an awesome camera system that was on sale, he asked if I wanted to upgrade my 6-year old alarm system. Any sales representative would not spend countless hours talking to or texting their client from 8 am to 9 pm on Saturday and Sunday, but that's exactly what Russell did because I had so many questions about his system. After finding out that my company's "new" service call price was $200 for a minimum of 1 hour, it was a no brainer for me to switch to DAT when they offer $59 service calls and lifetime warranty on standard parts. I had a very weird interaction with Russ - but is what came of it that honestly shows this business is legit and so very professional. I had just moved into our new home, unfortunately my husband wasn't home, I was in my pjs half asleep at 8 pm. And a gentleman rings my doorbell. While I found it odd, he initially explained he was in the neighborhood for another client and it didn't workout, the conversation was okay but then Russ was speaking very fast and for many reasons that evening I felt slightly pushed. I think I just started being nervous of being alone and slightly sketched out as I began thinking like who does business door to door that late? So I signed a contract to get the conversation over with. Fast forward 24 hours later I couldn't stop thinking of the interaction and regretted not having done my research and feeling more like it was our choice. Thus, I texted Russ and explained my feelings. What a relief and honestly amazing experience to have a businessman so kindly respond understanding completely and apologizing. I sincerely respect that level of professionalism and tact more than anything. He cancelled the contract without penalty and understood where I was coming from. I've been reading the reviews about DAT and I am floored at some of the comments being made. I signed a contract with Russ about 2 years ago and I've never had any problems with Russ, DAT team members or Brinks. I met Russ through my brother who also purchased a security system and when I finally moved into my home, Russ was very professional, contacted me and signed me up for a 3 year contract. There were a couple occasions that I remember my garage door being left open by my kids and I would not have known if my security system didn't alert me. Prior to signing up for my security system I never in my wildest dreams thought I would ever have 8 dogs. My dogs are my first security system and anyone who comes into my neighborhood is quickly aware of them and will not dare set foot on my property so unfortunately I will not be requiring services after my contract ends. There are many factors that I consider important when making any major purchase or investment. Some of these factors are: PRODUCT QUALITY, VALUE (COST), and CUSTOMER SERVICE. QUALITY: I had no issues with the hardware installed in my home. The panel is modern and easy to use. It is user friendly and it is so convenient to have the option to turn my alarm off or on from my cell phone. VALUE: Security is one of the first things I wanted to install in my new home. I shopped around and compared prices. I was very happy with my monthly monitoring price that was within my budget. I appreciate Russell working with me on a plan that works. I believe you can't place a price on your security, however, your monthly payment shouldn't cost you an arm and a leg either. CUSTOMER SERVICE: There are many home security alarm companies out there. DAT has a local sales rep, local installers who are on island and ready to assist with any issues. Russell is a very professional and friendly sales person. There are so many aggressive sales people out there who are very aggressive and do not respect your space (especially Vivint) who do not care about their customers. I don't respect companies who prey on the insecurities of the elderly. Shortly after the Marco Polo apartment fires in Honolulu, a rep came to my 80 year old grandmother's house and spent 4 hours there to coerce her to buy smoke detectors in her home. This in itself seems ok, but these detectors ended up costing her $1922.00. My grandmother had no idea they cost so much until I questioned her monthly statement. I called DAT to clarify the logic behind charging someone so much for a battery powered unit on the wall. . I spoke to a Yvonne that was panicked and flustered and quickly was trying to put the blame on another company and told me they don't handle accounts from last month. Wth?! I was later connected to the CEO Sal who basically told me I can't return the product, he has a signed receipt and it's for the safety of my grandmother and "good luck disputing it". Not to mention the product is 3rd party and not even listed on their website. It's a crossfire smoke detector by omnishield (appliedfire tech based in texas), and is no where worth $2000. I find it funny how a sales person from DAT attempts to sell a system to my family even though we already brought it up to him that we already have a security system. He was so insistent on selling that even after we told him no thank you, he wanted to stop by another day to confirm with another family member to subscribe to the service. I know it's business and everything. But no company should ever dog another company on how they run or do business. Get your facts strait before spreading lies or rumors to get ahead of competition. Yes, good deal on system but people wake up. The contract is what makes the company revenue. Service can either be good or bad I wouldn't know, haven't had their service yet. We've been having problems with our system recently and called the number on the DAT sign. The person on the other end on the few occasions we reached out gave an attitude on every attempt we called. That is, until someone told her off and put her back into her place. Train that girl on proper service etiquette or replace her with one who has better people skills. (-2 stars there cuz im big with the service experience). Russ has been professional but sorry this girl (Yvonne) on the other line gotta go. Anyhow, we got the system installed a little over a year ago and am experiencing what seems to be a common "fail comm" error, there is no tech support (Brinks?) on Sundays so we are pretty much SOL until the next business day. If I could give zero stars I would! So we were already set with another company and we're getting ready to pull to sign the contract when a sales person stopped by our house. He had stopped by many of our neighbors homes and fooled them in to signing as he eventually did us too. He was bad mouthing the company that we had picked saying that the customer service with our chosen company was very poor as was their response time for trouble calls. He then told us how their response time was at the most a few hours if we were having trouble with the system. So we encountered our first problem yesterday; mind you we have only had the system for 3-4 months MAX. We were unable to set our alarm. We called to inform Sal (the CEO) and he sent a tech to our house. The tech took nearly 3 hours to figure out that the key pad needed to be changed. In the meantime I was doing laundry and trying to be productive, I came back down to our living area where the tech had just made himself at home waiting on the new keypad to boot up. Once he was finished he said "ok you have a new keypad you will need to set it up" and then leaves. I go to the keypad and I have NO clue how to set it up. So we call Sal again and he sends another tech out to our house but we have to wait until 7pm now. The second tech shows up and sets up the keypad and within a minute he is GONE! We try to set our alarm to go to bed and find that now one of the sensors isn't working (it just so happens to be one in our dark back yard) perfect for someone to break in! Then the next day we get up and do our daily routine and head off to work. Try to set the alarm and nothing, it won't respond. I think we'll maybe I can set it from the app on my phone, nothing, it won't respond. When then call Sal and let him know the issue and we are told someone can be there at 7pm. Dissatisfied with that answer I tell home that won't work and then need to get someone there ASAP or I will go with another company. His response was "try, you are in a contract and I will send you to collections and ruin your credit" WTF!!! The argument got very heated after that and the only fix is to take another day off work for them to hopefully "fix" our system. Don't be fooled folks like we were, this company isn't as user friendly as they state when you first meet them. I will be contacting the BBB to let them know about this garbage. **So after posting this review Russell Lum, the salesperson that badmouthed the other company made a visit to our house. Sal was not happy that they received a poor yelp review and he wanted it gone. Russell who has Sal saved in his phone as Salzheimer's (because of his poor attitudes and age I suppose) mad a visit to our house to ask us to take the bad yelp review down. He can offering $150 four our troubles and hoping that would fix all of the above problems. Well the very next day, I came home and turned the alarm off with the app provided by the company (I received a message that the alarm was disarmed) I parked my car in the garage and before I could get in my house the alarm was going off. When I called Russell I told him that I wanted the system out of my house and he said he would do it. Now, I am being told by Sal that I will be sent to collections. Honestly these guys are ALL conmen, go with the people that have earned the JD Power award for customer care because this company is GARBAGE!!! Funny story is that Russell is taking over the company! Kelvin hooked us up and got us totally upgraded with a new keypad, new monitors, cameras and a video doorbell which we love! We can Armand disarm our system with an app on our phone. Wanted to update my review since my first one about a week ago. We had scheduled Patrick for a second time, after his first no show, to come back and fix the alarm. About a day or two before he was scheduled to show up, Moni Security (who the contract is actually with) called my mom for a customer service review, in which she went off on them. The girl she spoke with, per my mom, was very polite and helpful and helped my mom get the system working again. She told my mom if there were anymore issues, to call them directly and they would help her through it or send someone out to fix it. Moni went ahead and cancelled Patrick since they were able to fix it over the phone with my mom. Additionally, Russell came by our house personally about 5 minutes ago, after reading my first review, and spoke to my mom about what's been going on with the alarm and their service. Again, he was completely professional and after speaking with my mom, said that they will be crediting her back 3 months of service since it wasn't working during that time. He also left us his card again, as my mom misplaced the card he left with us the first time. Our system has now been working again ever since she spoke with Moni and we are now satisfied with things. We had Alert Alarm for a few years but recently bought a new house and needed a new alarm system. Oceanic gave us a quote but we weren't so sure because they couldn't alarm our detached garage. Russell from DAT stopped by and was so friendly and kind from the get go that I listened to his pitch though we had been warned by Oceanic about not letting any other alarm company in. My husband and I are very new to the Island and have never had an alarm system in our home. We were overwhelmed and didn't know which company to go with as we were bombarded with the door-to-door salespeople wanting our business. Some are more in-your-face than others. I will not mention names because I am not doing a review on them, but if you speak to other companies, you will understand. After "interviewing" several companies, we decided that DAT was the way to go. The main reason was Russell. He was personable, informative and obviously driven to satisfy his customers (I will tell you a little story in a minute). I expect, at the very least, acceptable service from any business that I give my money to. I do not write reviews for acceptable service. I write reviews/send letters for businesses that exceptionally exceed OR exceptionally fall below "acceptable" service. THIS IS AN EXCEED ONE. One of the most telling signs that you are dealing with an exceptional business is their readiness to handle any issues that you may have. I have had two. They were minor and did not require immediate attention BUT I was given immediate attention anyways. Yesterday my alarm went off while my daughter and I were at the beach. I received a phone call from the monitoring system quickly and I advised them that NO ONE should be at my home. They dispatched police and the response time was phenomenal! I am a retired Police Officer so this impressed me. My house was clear but there was a malfunction with one of the window devices. On a Sunday afternoon, of a Holiday weekend, I sent Russell a text and he responded within minutes. I was given the information needed. Later that same night, a storm came through the area and my alarm started going off at 1:30 am. Scared me to death. It seems that the system lost communication for a moment with the monitoring system. I left a detailed message on the office number at 1:45 am. At 7:00 the next morning, Labor Day, I received a phone call from Sal (SUPER nice guy) and he had someone at my house within a couple of hours. The person that responded was Roy (I think, sorry if I got his name wrong) and he was FANTASTIC!!!! He fixed the problem and then went further in helping me register my alarm with the City. You see, I mailed my registration in on August 17th. It was returned to me as "Address not found" on Saturday (yes, one day prior to my alarm going off) and of course, they were closed so I wouldn't be able to remedy it until Tuesday (because of the Holiday). He contacted Sal and together, they gave me the information I needed to register everything online. I did it just after his departure. So anyways, I am really impressed with this company!! I can not end this review without giving a "shout out" to Omar. He came by to install the keypad for me and was friendly, professional and helpful. This is a great company. read more
