My love of succulents hit an all time high after leaving my office one day and I my eyes met a cool plant shop called Dig It. Named perfectly in my opinion. From the second I walked in they had so many options from flowers, cactus, and air plants galore. Every step I took I found myself wanting to buy a bigger house to buy every beautiful plant I saw. Both indoor and outdoor selections kept me there over an hour and having a hard time deciding. Fantastic nursery for desert plants and has quite a nice indoor area for indoor plants too. The real selling point is their very reasonable prices for Phoenix. Found ric rac cacti here and they are thriving! They can get sun burnt which I wish I knew but they came back.

This is a nice little nursery for some people, but for me the prices are too expensive and the plants look dismal. There are better nurseries around that have great plants, trees, pots and lower prices like The Plant Stand. read more

I guess because of Covid-19, they insist you make a 1-on-1 appt via their website to go there. They "sell" the idea by saying you will get lots of help and instructions about how to care for your selected plant(s). However, it is tricky to find the entrance on foot (in the heat wearing a mask) bc the glass sliding doors that would appear to be the most obvious choice is NOT the entrance. I didn't see any signage showing where an entrance to the indoor shop/employee who would help you IS. But eventually, before I passed out in the heat wearing a mask, the employee showed up and I followed him to the entrance/shop. He then stood behind the counter and instructed me to go back outside (alone) and help MYSELF, and then come BACK into the shop once I make my selection (with no help), at which time I would have to walk BACK outside WITH him to point out what I want. THEN, we would have to walk back INTO the shop where I would pay. He was very entitled in his attitude and short with me. I guess that's why he works with plants, not people. Anyway, he never gave me any care instructions on my plant, but he DID carry it out and put it in my car. Later I discovered why he was happy to get rid of it and take my money... Lacking any instructions at the appt, I watched multiple YouTube videos about how to care for a big aloe plant. Nothing helped. A month later, the plant was dead. I tried calling a few days before it keeled over for some advice, and Mr. Entitled cut me off and directed me to email their help team with some photos for some advice, which I did. I watched my In Box and my Junk Mail for any response for a few days, then emailed them again. Apparently, I missed their response email nonetheless, so they forwarded a copy of it to me. The response email told me that their aloe vera plants are all but doomed because of "climate change "and that they aren't doing too well because of the heat, the moisture in the air, and the lack of rain. I emailed them back that they should have told me the plant was doomed or I wouldn't have bought it. They did not take the hint that I felt I was owed a refund the first couple of emails. Once I finally explicitly requested a refund, several hours later they emailed me that they would do so, and they did, but it was like pulling teeth to get them to understand that they sold me a defective product that they even admitted in writing was defective or wasn't surviving well. Obviously if I never contacted them and requested a refund, I would've thrown away $35 for a plant they knew wasn't doing well. I'm sure MOST people just deal with it and eat the loss (WHICH CONTINUALLY PROFITS THEIR BUSINESS AT THE EXPENSE OF CUSTOMERS), but to me it was the principal and they messed with the Wrong Lady. Mr. Entitled should've explained to me how to care for the plant during my appointment as promised and/or informed me that the plant was doomed and all of their aloes were dying because of "climate change", in which case I would've chosen a different plant. I will never go back because (1) they did not give me the customer service that they promised during a one-on-one appointment, (2) Mr. Entitled was short with me during each communication -- demonstrating it is a problem with his personality -- NOT that he was just having a bad day the first time..., (3) Mr. Entitled knew that the type of plant I was buying was probably not going to live and let me buy it anyway which was dishonest, and (4) their email help team was very slow to admit they owed me a refund until I spelled it out for them in black and white. I went to Lowe's and found a healthy looking agave plant. read more

This is a funky little nursery with a great vibe that this neighborhood so desperately needs. Since Summerwinds was pushed out by high rent prices up on Bethany, I've had the hardest time finding small-scale, unique plants for my condo. Dig It is small enough to come in and out quickly, and the employees are laid back, friendly, and helpful. You plantstagrammers will go nuts - plenty of pilea, tillandsia, and succulents to drool over here. Pricing is a little steep and the selection is certainly not the widest on any given day due to the small footprint of the lot, but I'm able to find modern planters and bright colors that aren't the same three things I see at all the big box stores. And it's in my neighborhood! I hope Dig It is dug in for awhile. :) read more

We actually did a U turn after we drove past this relatively new Urban Nursery. From the curb you get a sense this isn't an old school dusty dry average place. As you enter this Urban oasis you can see a strong pride of ownership, This place is organized and tidy! lots of things to look at in every corner. My garden is pretty established right now so I didn't by any plants, but I plan to go back. They do have a great selection of heirloom seeds and I did grab a few packs that I already got started, to be ready for spring. These guys share their macaws that live in the center of the pergola, and there are many cool group boxes and awesome terrariums to look at. One of the owners, Ryan, took a little time to talk about gardening, plants and soil , and he knows his stuff, I left feeling more informed and enlightened. I sure was impressed with his Pro-Style. Have been driving by this location quite some time, when I finally decided to stop by I was amazed! The staff was very helpful and friendly. This place is awesome very neatly organized and they have 2 big macaws just chillin in there. Everything is at a reasonable price. Definitely recommend it specially here in Down Town Phoenix if you are looking to start your own urban garden or even if you are in the area. Its a nice place to just go and check out. A perfect urban gardening oasis. I found myself lost in my thoughts of all the possibilities of endless gardening and plants. I received wonderful customer service from Miss Terry. Cute little gem in the heart of the Valley. I love what they are doing here as far as having an urban garden, a wide selection, and affordable prices. We were perusing and I hear this HELLO! I thought it was a older man but turned out to be a huge macaw perched above the plants! Lol. I picked up some cactus potting material and cashier was very friendly and gave us a coupon for our next visit -score! Super high priced, hipster shop. There's other local nursery's with far better prices and customer service. I had a bad experience with an expensive plant. It began spotting like it had a fungus and died very quickly. It happened as soon as I took the plant home so I know it wasn't a case of mis-care. I explained that to them but when I approached the store about the problem they weren't really interested in taking any fault or replacing the plant. They sent me home after spraying something on it and mentioned that sometimes it comes from the grower (not the customers fault). It felt like I was an annoyance although approaching them kindly. They did mention sometimes growers give them plants that turn out to be bad and they return them and they get a credit back for the store. Seems like the right thing to do would have been to replace it for the customer considering they are charging $60 bucks for a plant. Ive heard similar stories from friends as well who no longer go there. Sadly I learned a little too late. read more

While the staff was super friendly and super helpful, and the place looked beautiful, the condition of the plants were poor. My girlfriend and I had visited this nursery on two separate occasions to get plants. Our first plant was a beautifully variegated pothos that seemed to only die. It started as a 6 inch plant and is now barely hanging only due to extreme care. The other poor plant was a pink and dark green rubber tree that, just like the pothos, kept dying no matter the conditions. We have since then gotten similar plants from other nursery's and they have had no issue in our home. read more

I only gave this two stars because the selection was decent and they also offer terrariums for reptiles. Where they were lacking was in customer service. From what we could gather, there were two people working on a Saturday afternoon. We had questions about a plant we wanted to purchase, however the one guy inside was so busy flirting with a woman, who had no plants in her hands, that we could not get him to step away to answer a quick question. When we went outside the cashier was nowhere to be found, so they lost our business as far as plants go. We did purchase a branch for our terrarium. When we went outside, there were two people in line ahead of us and the cashier was nowhere to be found. It took several minutes for him to surface and when he did he was not very cordial. Scam alert! I've never had a retail purchase scam so blatent in my life. I was searching for a tree that is not easy to find and contacted Dig It to not only see if they sold the tree, but to support a local, uptown Phoenix business. Turns out they had the tree priced at $300 and made arrangements to drop by the next day to see the tree before I purchased it. I was promptly emailed by the owner asking me to purchase that evening over the phone, I declined. Next day called back and asked about the tree and they again said $300 plus istallation fee of $150. I live 3 miles from then and have a truck to transport the tree, so I asked what their definition of installation meant and they said to deliver the tree which I said I did not need, but also asked if installation means planting too. The answer was no, that's an extra $50 (which is reasonable to me) but installation suggested just that to me, transportation AND planting. Asked the representative I did not need them to deliver the tree, so did that eliminate their $150 installation fee. They advised the installation fee was mandatory for all tree purchases! So $300 dollars plus unneeded delivery and planting was actually $500. Total scam. Purchased the exact tree from Summerwinds Nursery over the weekend for $129 out the door and they happily loaded the tree on my truck without being asked. BEWARE of Dig It nursery, they are blatantly scamming folks with fake/,mandatory fees that are not disclosed during initial quote. Will never do business with them! read more

Cute little garden shop in central Phoenix. Love the adorable mural on the outside with plenty of parking for customers. I will say, for a garden shop, the landscaping surrounding the shop is a little overgrown. The store is very cute, with a lot of little houseplants to choose from. Priced somewhat reasonably, still not as cheap as buying from a major hardware store for example. I bought two plants and a bag of potting soil for $60. Not terrible. The cashier seemed knowledgable when I asked him about plant care. I don't personally think they had enough variety of inventory but I'll give this place a second chance in the future when I need a new plant child. read more

I have loved Dig it since they opened, but wanted to share an experience I had today. I stopped in to find a small cacti to give as a gift. The crew at Dig it went out of their way to help me and transplant the cacti into the planter I was using. I bought four trees from this nursery. Though the man that helped me was very nice and informative, the co-owner was not. The trees were promised to be the best he had and delivered the next day. Due to a family emergency I was unaware of until I called three days later the delivery was delayed. The co-owner promised to get the trees out that day but had no order form or knowledge of "what" trees I ordered. I spent almost $500 and the four trees that when delivered were small and two were dying. I called and stated that this was not what I was promised but was told it is definitely what I was getting. A little water and the two I was concerned about would perk up or so I was told. So I planted them. Two weeks later I called again because the two trees were indeed dying. I was told by the co-owner that "he had done this for 15 years and I was not watering them enough". I was disappointed after everything, I had been understanding of and actually attempted, that was the wrongful gardener. One tree barely survived after a pound of miracle grow and A LOT of water but sadly the other one that was sick did die. I expected more than Lowes as this is a nursery but the co-owner is sadly unprofessional and uncaring. I do not recommend this place- I actually lost money and don't care to go back for the ridicule of not having "15 years" of knowledge on watering. read more

I found Dig It on Yelp several weeks ago when looking for some small succulents for my office. I have visited twice; once simply to pick up a few succulents and again last weekend to attend a class. I am a total plant/garden newbie. I love Dig It because the owner answers the phone, teaches the classes, and rings you up. The employees are accessible and helpful. I feel comfortable asking questions or taking a few minutes to explain what I'm looking for. I don't have a frame of reference for the cost of the plants/items compared to other nurseries or gardens, but I do feel that each one is well cared for. You're not rifling through each section trying to find the best looking, least damaged plant. I went home with two beautiful plants and pots and am really excited to watch if I can keep them alive! read more

Selection of plants is great and they will order anything they don't have for you. Their plants are also much better grown than the Low-end nurseries (Whitfill, moon valley, etc...): they are fuller and last longer. read more
