That's a big no for me, and honestly, even though I liked my meal, it would make me hesitant to come back. My favorite lunch spot in Georgetown. It's a fast casual place and a great option if I want to feel good about what I eat. They make everything in house and the staff are great. Their menu changes based on the season. Also great for vegetarians and dietary restrictions. They usually have some deals on their app too! I ordered through the app TooGoodTooGo and unfortunately, I didn't not enjoy the food at all. My order was not ready when I arrived, a man cashier quickly apologized and stated he would make it soon. I did not watch him put my bowl together since I was watching my car outside the window. Once we was done, he helped we pick out which sauces would go best with the bowl and apologized once again for the wait. However when I was home, I discovered the bowl was not up to par. Dig is a farm-to-table "make your own bowl" place. I'm not in the Georgetown neighborhood often, but I was today, so my boyfriend and I decided to have lunch at Dig. I chose a "market plate," which consists of a base, two sides, and a protein. I got farro, a kale Caesar salad, sweet potatoes, and tofu. I do wish I had more kale Caesar and less farro, but everything was delicious, and the portions are generous. My boyfriend got a tofu sandwich with tomato-cucumber salad. He liked the flavor, but the bun was too small and squishy, throwing the whole meal out of balance. Pro tip: Skip the sandwich and get a plate instead. The restaurant is rather small and I would bet a lot of the young folks we saw dining there are Georgetown students. A sign suggests that students use the restaurant as their "dining hall." But we did get a seat easily at lunchtime on a Saturday. Vegan items are marked with a "V," and plenty of the sides are vegan. The service isn't super friendly, but it is quick and efficient, which is what I expect with counter-service places. If there were a Dig closer to my side of town, I'd definitely go there. DIG is a NYC-based fast-casual chain claiming to serve up "home-cooked food" with good-quality ingredients, and opened up a Georgetown location right off of the bustling M Street in a quaint little cottage-like establishment. The interior is cozy yet open-concept and bright, with wood accent pieces and fun tiles lining the floor. At around 7pm on a Friday night, the restaruant was about half-full, with no line. Just like any other fast-casual restaurant (e.g. Chipotle, Cava, etc.), you can order off a preset menu, or make your own bowl/salad/meal of your choosing. Fresh ingredients are displayed inside of a large glass case - they do have a nice variety of protein and side options to choose from that should fit most peoples' dietary needs/restrictions. When I first walked in, I was instructed to stand at the left end of the case in order to start my order. However, they either forgot about me or didn't see me, since I ended up standing there for 5 minutes. I ended up ordering a Custom Bowl with Protein, which I got with their Hot Honey Chicken ($12.10 for this particular protein), a base of Farm Greens with Mint, and I chose their Jasper Hill Mac & Cheese and Chili Roasted Brussels as my two sides. Firstly, they gave me a TINY scoop of their farm greens - it was hardly a base, and more like a small side order. I thought that the pitiful amount of greens would mean that they would be more generous with the other components of my bowl, but unfortunately, this was not the case. The protein of Hot Honey Chicken was well-seasoned, with juicy pieces of chicken thigh in a sweet and spicy glaze, but they gave me a CHILD'S PORTION (four tiny strips of chicken). The Jasper Hill Mac & Cheese was, again, a small portion, but it was so rich that I don't think I would be able to have much of it anyways. The three-cheese blend that they use has a nice combination of tang and richness, but the whole wheat pasta was overcooked, and I could tell it had been sitting out for a while, since the panko breadcrumbs on top were no longer crispy. The Chili Roasted Brussels were neither spicy nor crispy, though they were well-seasoned, and I did like the leaves of roasted basil as well. Finally, I topped it all off with a drizzle of Sriracha, which added a much-needed boost of flavor and spice to the bowl. Without tip and tax, my bowl came out to $12.10 (it varies according to the protein that you order), though there's always some sort of promotion/discount code if you use the app, so I ended up getting $5 off from downloading the app. The $7 price tag made this trip to Dig worth it, but I wouldn't go again for full price - I didn't leave feeling full, the food was solid (but not stellar), and service was slow. I think this is a decent place to get relatively healthy food (but FYI - everything is doused in a generous amount of oil), and if you can get some sort of discount/promotion, it may be worth it, but there's plenty of other better places out there in the Georgetown area. read more

On the occasion that I am in Georgetown for the day I make it a point to drop by Dig for a Hearty Lunch. This is smaller than the Bethesda Location and Parking is always a challenge in Georgetown. The staff move the line pretty quickly and serve your food right away. It may be hard to get a seat during peak lunch hours but you can always order it to go and sit at the Georgetown Waterfront Park for a relaxing meal. read more

I was happy to hear that Dig had arrived in DC. My previous experience woth Dig had been in NY where they do JetBlue's inflight catering for the NY - London flights. For this visit, I built my own bowl with salmon, faro, carrots, and sweet potato, topped with sriracha sauce. Everything was perfect. The ordering experience is similar to a Chipotle or CAVA. You can pick from pre-set bowls or build your own. Substitutions are allowed of you don't like the sides. They carry a small selection of desserts also. Note that the dishes change by season and they locally source the ingredients. Win win! The staff is extremely helpful and will walk you through the process and provide recommendations if you're unsure. Also, kudos for having reusable cutlery if you're eating in va the usual throwaway plastic most places have. The inside is a bit small and there is some sidewalk seating, but if you are with a sizable group of people, best to get everything to go and enjoy a picnic in Georgetown. I usually start with their farm greens with mint or a half-and-half situation. As for mains, the wild Alaskan salmon is my go-to, but their maple glazed tofu has the perfect level of sweetness and a slightly crunchy exterior that hits every time. I have such a hard time choosing from all their delicious sides, but you can never go wrong with their sheet tray carrots, charred broccoli (emphasis on the char, but it's broken up with a great hit of lemon), or roasted sweet potato. For a bit of fall flair, their kale apple crunch and golden brussels are great seasonal hits. Then, I usually top it all off with their house-made sriracha or a lemon wedge. While I usually get my food delivered, the couple of times I have visited in person have thoroughly impressed me with how welcoming and friendly their service is! Popped in to DIG for a quick dinner. Initially had trouble finding the main door lol. Getting your food and paying was super quick, and the workers were very pleasant and fast. All the freshly cooked food looked so good! You can see workers chopping and cooking all the raw veggies in the back, so you know it's fresh! I got the hot honey chicken and it was good. Carrots were a little burnt for my taste, but definitely edible. Mac n cheese was sooo good. Chicken was delicious, but I just wish they put more in. The classic dig was also good. This place feels so chaotic, which is ironic because physically its very clean/ mellow, light filled. But if its your first time there and you are trying to order it is somehow hard to figure out the flow of the menus/ offerings/ how pricing works. Like menus were by the cash register, which is where the line ends, not where it begins. What are the meatballs made of? who knows? Why wouldnt that be listed on a menu? The greens were fresh, the mac and cheese was quite good and had a nice breading on top, and the kale caesar had the perfect amount of dressing and some cashews for crunch. The hot honey chicken was my favorite part of the bowl; it was juicy and perfectly marinated!! The sriracha sauce was not as spicy as actual sriracha and was a bit sweet, and the garlic aioli was not overpoweringly garlicy. Overall, this was really good!!
