I love the concept of Dig Inn. Healthy meals in a bowl! How great is this? The menu has something for everyone and you can design your own meal or order one of the featured MarketBowls. I like to make my own. Today I had the Herb roasted chicken with sweet potatoes and grilled peaches. I also had them add a little charred chicken. Both kinds of chicken were seasoned to perfection. So yummy. But the peaches were not ripe (hard as a rock) and the sweet potatoes were undercooked. The sweet potatoes were undercooked the last time I ordered from Dig Inn too. Kind of disappointed, especially with the peaches. Dig Inn offers fast and efficient online ordering for pick-up. Very convenient especially because the small space gets very crowded and a bit chaotic at lunch time. read more

Great foods but lost one star due to too much oil in it. Dig Inn just recently opened another location in downtown Boston. I haven't try the one in Backbay yet but I have the chance to tried out their foods in downtown today. The choices are great and have a variety options to choose from. The foods are very fresh and tastes delicious. Great vegetables and meats choices to choose from. As I mentioned before I just wish they used less oil in the foods. From the bowl that I ordered, I could actually see the shining of the oil in the foods that I'm about to eat. The vegetables and meats options are definitely fresh and healthy but I don't know about the amount of oils they used in the foods. The look and feeling just turned me right off. The fish and steak taste great but very pricey. I love the chicken. It very tender, flavoring and delicious. The iced tea tastes nasty. It tastes like plain water and very pricey for it size.. I love how the restaurant got the homemade feeling to it once you step to the window counter to choose what you like. They display the foods inside the pots and pans at the counter. It very not like all those fast foods restaurants feeling around the area. The restaurant look very clean, simple and relaxing with white wall, wooded tables and chairs. The staffs are very friendly and helpful. I definitely will come back here for lunch once in awhile. read more

I love finding healthy restaurants because it makes me feel better about eating out all time. Not so sure if my choices here were the healthiest options available but it was certainly tasty. For my bowl, I got a salad base with charred chicken, mac and cheese, and sweet potato. Portion was just right especially since my choices were on the heavier side. I didn't give this place the full 5 stars only because the food was pretty bland and I had to ask for two side sauces (maybe could have even benefitted from a 3rd) to spice it up a little. I'm a fan. Definitely lives up to the hype. I had been hearing a lot about this place, mostly along the lines of people incredibly surprised I had not tried it yet. Ended up getting a bowl with the unusual mix of the dark meat, broccoli, and Mac & cheese, along with some grains and greens. Did not disappoint. They give a very generous portion of protein with some delicious sauce to go with it (mixed the pesto and the homemade sriracha). Perfect place to grab a quick lunch. Everytime I go to the Downtown Crossing location, my order is wrong. I called and complained one time, they said they would refund my account. Nver saw the refund. I've had tiny chicken bones in my chicken 3 of the 4 times I've eaten at Digg Inn. At first, I loved this place. They put a lot of effort into everything they feed you, nearly everything is elevated considering it's a reasonably cheap lunch spot. The charred chicken is nice and juicy, the snap peas are crisp, the mac n' cheese is rich and creamy, and the sweet potatoes are perfectly soft and salty. They stumble with the roasted vegetables. I was expecting them to be cut into reasonably small pieces, but they were gigantic. Literally a baseball sized piece of zucchini. Same for the squash. The pepper was half a pepper, uncut. I understand the desire to be "rustic", but this is just too big... and since they are so big, the "roasting" only effects the outside shell, leaving the inside 3 inches raw. As I mentioned in the first line of my review, I've gotten small bones in my charred chicken 3 out of the 4 times I've been there. The last time, I got multiple bones. Given the seemingly high rate of getting these bones, I'd have to imagine that it's a common problem here. Small bones can be very dangerous, more care needs to be put into making sure no bones make it into the final product. I can't see myself coming back here for this unfortunate reason. Another issue I have with Dig Inn is their confusing ordering process. There is almost no signage -- you get to the ordering spot, and there's no labels, no menu, nothing. "What would you like?"... I don't know, what do you have? The only menu is this small poster on the wall behind and to your left. When you get to the cold toppings, there's nothing to tell you what they are or what's in them. Same for the hot toppings, same for the proteins. Make a menu, post it somewhere people can see it. Every time I've gone, the line is held up because almost everybody needs to ask what things are and what is available. I loved this place, but I can't ignore the issues. read more

I feel that the food has gotten slightly heavier and more oily since it was originally launched and they are now placing any additional sides in a separate container rather than adding them directly into your bowl. This is a good alternative to some of the other lunch spots. I will say I was not impressed over all with the food but two of the starts are for the gluten free meatballs. They were good not great but a meatball is always good! First things first you must grab a menu off the wall and then proceed to the assembly line. There are no overhead menus to tell you your options the sheet of paper lists them all. You get a base, two sides (veggies) and a protein. Simple and surprisingly really quick. I like that everything is gluten free unless other wise marked, so often it's the reverse. I'd like to see a more environmentally friendly approach to the menu selection. It's almost sinful to have everyone grab a menu to order and waste tons of paper even if they do recycle it doesn't make up for the wastefulness. My friend loved it. I might come again just for a side of meatballs. I'm a glutinous creature when meatballs are involved but this wouldn't be my go to place. Great restaurant and environment. I am a huge fan of the farm to table vibe that restaurants have to offer. Definitely gets crowded so don't expect to get in there at peak hours. YUMMMM! This fast casual dining place is what I'm missing in my life. Especially after a long day of travel on a very cold day. Their warm faro, carrots and roasted chicken hit the spot. For a quick turn around restaurant they don't offer a lot of seating and this location ingredients were pretty sparse. I would welcome a Dig Inn in Brooklyn. read more

It exceeded my expectation! I was expecting something similar to Grainmaker (which is also really good if you are a sauce person.. I'm not so it's meh). I absolutely loved my bowl: char chicken, Peruvian potato and the almond ? carrot ... and i forgot to take a picture it but i did take a picture of the cookie - "healthy" cookie that's quite delicious (crunchiness comes from the seeds as you can see from the picture). My favorite thing about this place is that each "side" has an unique flavor to it so it's not just boring veggie you add to your bowl. Definitely coming back again!! Food-wise, it's what I expect from a Dig Inn - fresh and natural food. Generally no problem in that department. However, they're definitely understaffed, and often under supplied. Since I live about 3 blocks away, I go to this location about 2-3 times a week, between the hours of 6-9PM. Nearly every time I go in and wait in line, there will be no one doing the serving for long periods of time, which can make this place a bad choice if you're in a hurry. Charred Chicken Marketbowl First time here and the food was SPECTACULAR! This is a place where you have to have an appetite, because the food fills you up. The chicken was juicy and flavorful. The broccoli had a crunch to it, which I'm lot a huge fan of, but this place made me love the crunch, and I wish they added more. The Mac and cheese was good. Just went here for the first time recently. I knew it would be somewhat similar to Sweetgreen and it is, but I think it's still different enough that it can compete. My favorite thing I got here was the farro, which I had never heard of or had before. They make it with some cinnamon mixed in and it's absolutely incredible. Like I could eat a whole bowl of just the farro on its own. The carrots, brussels sprouts, and chicken were all good as well. I also got half an avocado, which was pretty hard tbh, so maybe skip that next time. After paying for my order they asked me if I wanted a bag and I said yes, and they gave me this cool reusable square fabric bag. Think like one of those reusable grocery bags. I'd give 3.5 stars if I could. Details below. It's always exciting to try out new places, particularly one that you know will do your body a whole lot of good. That's why I came to Dig Inn. This was during the lunch rush hour, so understandably, the line was to the max. I wish I had taken the online ordering route before arriving, but as a first timer, I wanted to see what I would be filling my "market bowls", which is what they call the Chipotle-esque bowls mixed with protein, sides, healthy carbs. After perusing the Yelp reviews, I went with quinoa as my carb rather than the brown rice (thank you for that suggestion, it did not disappoint!), with steak as my protein, and kale + broccoli as my sides. Overall, I thought the taste was okay. Here's where I thought things fell short: 1. The steak was tough... as in, shoe leather tough! I wish they had cubed it or sliced it thinner, because at the size that it was, it was rather uncomfortable to eat a slice in a single bite, and could not easily be cut smaller with the plastic cutlery provided in store. I walked away feeling rather sore in the mouth from all the chewing. 2. The price. I get that they use fresh ingredients sourced from local farms, so that the price needs to be higher. But somehow the food didn't blow me away enough to deserve the price tag of $13 (for the steak bowl). Yes, I know, $13 for a meal is still $$ in Boston, but when it comes to lunch, we have a lot of options for $13. 3. The ordering process. If you're a repeat customer, having the Step 1-2-3 sign to the wall against where your customers stand is just fine. For the newcomer, I got totally confused. Step 2 says I get to pick 2 market sides. But WAIT, I'm being asked if I want some cold sides by a lady and if I want some hot sides by another. Does that mean I get one of each? (The sign on the wall also doesn't match what they have on offering.) Oh, and do I want a dressing? I can't remember if that was included in the already hefty price... That said, the kale side was delish. Not sure whether grilling it truly enhanced its flavor, because it did have some of that burnt grill bits stuck to it that made it feel like you were eating dirty kale. But yes, despite the occasionally odd texture, the flavor was the best I've ever seen infused in kale. The broccoli was cut too coarsely and immediately made me want to floss my teeth after eating. Everything tasted rather lemony, and you'll see the word "lemon" appear on their titles a lot. Would be better if they expanded to some other flavors. read more

Looking for a healthy yet delicious lunch option? Dig Inn is the place to literally ... dig in. This Dig Inn is located next to Chitpole... it is a hard decision. I usually choose Chipotle but I will try to go to Dig Inn more. The ingredients are fresh, the menu will tell you where they locally source their ingredients from. The line is usually pretty long during lunch time but it moves at an ok speed. You can also order online and pick up but I haven't tried this myself. First you pick a base- salad, brown rice or quinoa. I usually get brown rice or quinoa. Then you pick two sides. I have tried: -roasted kale: I didn't know kale could be so delicious. One time I accidentally got the raw kale, make sure you get the roasted one! -carrots: I didn't know carrots could be so sweet. Chilli- citrus cucumbers: tastes like Chinese smashed cucumbers that you get in Chinese restaurants I usually get the chicken thigh or chicken breast as a protein. They also have salmon but it is pricier. Next time you are looking for a healthy and tasty lunch, go to Dig Inn. They make veges taste good! read more

Great food (mac n cheese is delicious), but the ordering process was very confusing as a first time visitor. There were no signs telling us what's included in a bowl, but my coworker in front of me ordered a protein and 2 sides with no issues, so I tried to do the same thing. However, I was rudely informed that I needed to pay extra to get a protein in my bowl (I had no protein in the bowl at this point), even though my coworker did not receive an upcharge. I agreed since I didn't want to hold up the line, but after going to their website to see that each bowl does include a protein, I'm still very confused as to why I had to pay extra for something that others did not have to. It was also impossible to hear what exactly the employees were saying to me. I don't think I would go back, because I still don't know how the ordering process works. read more

Great build-your-own-bowl option! You've got a lot of options, so it can be as healthy as you make it. I've had a few combinations at this point, and would recommend trying their charred brussels sprouts, broccoli three ways salad, and seasonal butternut squash farro in some way. read more

In an attempt to be healthier, Dig Inn makes that so easy! Some might compare them to Sweetgreen, and yeah they are pretty similar in terms of being a healthy, fast-casual, sources from local farms place, but, at least in my opinion, I think Dig Inn has more unique cooked options which you can definitely smell when you walk in, versus Sweetgreen has more raw veggie options. One of the toppings you can add to your "marketbowl" are cantaloupe so that's pretty cool. Choose one base, 2 market sides, 1 main (proteins), and there a few extra options and you can add any additional side for $2. After your bowl is assembled, you can select a dressing (which I wish they listed on the paper menus) but I got the chimichurri one was has a nice garlic-without-being-overpowering flavor and paired really well with the grilled organic tofu. That charred grill on the tofu made it so much better. Also, for a small space, they have a decent amount of seating and I easily found a seat at the bar by the windows since everyone seemed to eat pretty quickly then head back to work. Went during the lunch rush hour today (Tuesday) and it was pretty busy but the line moves really quickly. I asked the lady at the front who was handing out menus if they plan on having breakfast options in the future like the Back Bay location which she didn't know. So glad this place opened up on Washington because it's closer to me than the Boylston one is. It has some catching up to do, though - the service isn't as friendly. I asked to do a side as a base, saying I know they charge extra (because they do it at the Boylston one), but the girl refused. The salmon also looks kind of overcooked sometimes, so I avoid it and go for the other meats. Overall, it's still the Dig Inn I love and the food is still great, but I've had a more consistent and pleasant experience at the Boylston location. read more

I have been dining here since I discovered it in my walks downtown. I REALLY like their food. Well prepared, delicious meals that are healthy and made from local ingredients. My faves: Roasted sweet potatoes (dark and simply seasoned) Wild Alaskan Salmon (loads of flavor and tender) Mixed leafy green salads (REFRESHING alternative to iceberg/romaine lettuce you get EVERYWHERE) Chicken (roasted/rotisserie) Wild rice (filling) Roasted kale & onions Golden beets!! (Where they do that at?!?!) Non faves: Quinoa base is good but not for me but the rice is good and more filling. Coconut carrots made me queesy. The flavors together are a bit overwhelming for my tastes Looking forward to: Mac & cheese - lactose intolerance keeps me at bay but will try when I'm feeling brave. It always looks delish! If this were the only "eat out" restaurant in Boston, I'd be just fine. The staff works hard and are always busy and not sitting around or on phones. Much better tasting food than I even expected. Only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because I feel like their base options are limited. So you get to pick one base, 2 farmer's market sides, and one main. As my base I got the brown rice, which was not good at all. I would not suggest getting this as your side. As my farmer's market sides I got the macaroni and sweet potatoes. Both were delicious, I'd recommend. As my main I got the charred chicken, which was also amazing with a great hint of lemon. If you're looking to have something super healthy for lunch without feeling any guilt whatsoever, then this is your spot! If you have a hearty appetite with no dietary restrictions, this is NOT your spot. So basically it's kind of like a Chipotle in a bowl; pick your base, protein, sauce, etc. I had the brown rice, veggies, and charred chicken thigh. Even with all the sauces they offered, it just wasn't cutting it for me, it lacked flavor and wasn't filling me up. For beverages, they offer some bougey drinks, like water in a box, or some fruit flavored whatever in a bottle. Pro, it's healthy and inexpensive. Con, if you're hungry, you'll be hungry when you leave. Also one thing to note: I understand it's difficult to renovate such historic buildings to be ADA compliant. I prefer the Boylston St. location over this one due to the preparation and care for the food being served. There is a lot of imbalances with the portions. I.E. my husband getting four small pieces of chicken thigh vs. my half a bowl of chicken. There are also times where the veg isn't cut up enough or cooked through enough so it doesn't make it as pleasant to eat. I attached a picture of a sweet potato that was as big as my fist. I like to eat at Dig Inn, because of the healthier/delicious food. I just wish the quality and consistency with this location was as good as Boylston St. read more
