With the great review here, I grabbed some people and went to find this place. And it's amazing! It was really crowded on Friday night with a mixed crowd. Reminded me of "Cheers", young people looking for meat, friends engaged in interesting conversation, your 8am psychology professor and some guy drinking out of a boot. Die Bierstube provided me my first encounters with various German beers and foodstuffs. For that, I am eternally grateful. Get a table with a group of friends and order a boot. They also seem to be more likely to have the boots around than Feierabend who always seems to be without (surprising to me that more people break those in South Lake Union than by the UW). The crowd can be a little confusing sometimes, since the vibe is divey and woody and the clientele seems to include lost sorority girls who thought they were headed for Trinity. And for the love of Germany, try a pretzel! They are amazing! I also suggest some Franziskaner (I think it tastes like bananas). I only wish there were less frat boys around... I need to try Prost out to complete the triad! read more

I love Die BierStube!!!!! It's a German tavern with a fun and hip atmosphere. Hands down the best German tavern around!!!! The staff here is extremely friendly and fun to talk to. I have a friend that lives out of the state and everytime he comes back to see friends and family this is the to go place for all of us because of the great food and yummy beer. We usually have a group of 10 to 12 people each time and we all love this place. The selection of German beers here is amazing and all of the ones I have tried are delicious. Some of my favorites are the Bitburger Pilsner, Spaten Oktoberfest, Spaten Pils, and Hacker-Schorr Weisse. I highly recommend all of them. I have yet to try the food since I am usually drinking my dinner but the food looks awesome and smells really good. In the back of the bar they have two dart boards which is always fun to play after a few tall glasses of beer. It gets very packed on a friday and saturday night and there have been a couple times where we have had to wait for people to leave a table so come early and claim a spot or there is plenty of standing room too if you are into that. read more

The only thing holding Die BierStube back from getting a 5 is that the prices are pretty high. It is totally worth what you pay though. The food is great. The menu is limited but includes German sausages and pretzels which are both pretty amazing. The beer list is very good including a large range of delicious german beers. They serve Liter's too, which is fun, but limits the kinds of beer you can try in a night. If you come in a big group you can order a boot (a la Beer Fest) which is a lot of fun. Just make sure not to break it because they'll 86 you (although they don't seem to enforce it, my friend got 86'd in a group because of this and he goes back all the time now). Overall, good food, good beer, decent atmosphere. Cons for me are that it is often crowded, small bathrooms w/ lines a lot of times and no music to speak of. I left Die BierStube completely satisfied after a fun evening with old friends: what else could you ask for at a german bar?!?!?!? We walked in on a snowy, cold, and slushy winter's night, and grabbed a few seats at the bar. My three friends and I began our "bier" adventure, myself ordering four different types of amazing beer for $4 per glass - at the end of the night, in the words of Sir Mix-a-Lot, "I dropped a $20 and didn't even miss it" . The folks behind the bar were very knowledgeable about the beers, as I wanted to know if they had anything not on the beer list (which they did; it was super dark and über tasty). My friend mentioned something about amazing soup, but the kitchen was closed when we went so I will just have to go back! Nice chill atmosphere, a small place, and pretty affordable if you enjoy reputable beer (or all of the people complaining about the price, just go find some place that has PBR for a buck or two). We had lunch at Die Bierstube today, it was great. I had an octoberfest Amber beer and my girlfriend had a light pilsner. Both were very good. Both of our meals were really good. We had fun with the spicy mustard. Go try it and see what it does to your nose :) The Place was dead, but it was On a sunday afternoon, so it is to be expected. Plus, thats what I prefer! I am very proud of being both a German and Frenchman.....As I like to say, part conqueror and part conquered... My wife and I came to visit Seattle for the week end and they took us here... Great atmosphere, a bit too packed, that was fun and loud. We Germans do love a good crowd! My brother had sent me a "prost!" shirt for my 30th birthday and had told me that the same guy owned it........Loved it! I didn't have time for the cucumber salad ( gurkensalad ) or the braunschweiger, but all was well with the good German classics of Paulaner, Spaten Optimater and so on....Lots of fun, but a bit loud and time-consuming with the orders...4 stars! read more

This place sucks. Waste of money and time; a joke, as far from authentic as Americanly possible. Germany in a can (what is with those illuminated photos?). Service is slow, rude and insultingly over presumptive. Nothing is house-made, mustard is Beaver brand. This place I dig. Just like its sister Feierabend only it feels a lot more real. That is, it's more authentic inside. If you wanted the same vibe in say, Germany, you would likely find it on a similar strip to where Die BierStube is located. For the beer, have it all, I take mine in .5 L measures and try to work my way all over the beer list. For the food, I love the pork, tender, good, and smattered in great sour kraut. Went to die Bierstube for my first time tonight, after meaning to go for a loooong time. It just took me that long to get up off my stool at the People's Pub. The selection of German beers at the Stube was great, and to me seemed pretty well representative of German beers. Bocks, doppel bocks, lagers light and dark schwarzbier, pilsners, hefeweizens... they had something from almost every style I can think of. Notably, however, they did not have a kolsch (perhaps a seasonal?), a Berliner weiss (but nobody does), or an altbier. Only noticed that one because I was in the mood for it. One server admitted repeatedly that it was her first night. The other server was quite knowledgeable about the beers and enjoyed discussing them, and when I pointed out the soured Franziskaner Weissbier she tried it herself and then refused to serve it. The same people own two more pubs: Prost in Greenwood and Feierabend near REI. I've not been to the others, but I've heard good things and will definitely check them out after my experience here. Nice dark wood interior, and what I see as the typical German pub decor. As an aside, I went to die Bierstube on a Saturday night, and it wasn't nearly as overrun by partying college students as I'd been led to believe. This place is really different from most of Seattle's restaurants--a nice change from the overabundance of Asian-fare. Though there is no private lot, street parking is fairly accessible. I found the place to be a little bit small and way too crowded! I'm never a fan of sharing tables with strangers. For the socially-inclined, it's a wonderful way to meet new friends. For thee anti-social, such as myself, it can be a little intimidating. I also find the restaurant about 50 decibels too loud. I like to conversate during dinner, but the music and clamor is much too loud to hear any words from your dinner companions. I'd really like to give 3.5 stars on account of these things, but I rounded up, because everything else is pretty awesome. The thing I love is the beer and the food and the prices for each. I LOVE the giant pretzels that come with two types of mustard. They are less than $3 a-piece!!! I've also tried a boot of one kind of beer: Pay $50 deposit on the boot, never put the boot down, share with friends, get drunk. And all for $14? It's a fun time, and good photo-opportunity for the social-networking sites :-) I also had a mug of beer on a different occasion, and though it was a less festive experience, still good. Let me start by saying that I was here for a birthday , and I was the Designated Driver that evening. So because I did not imbibe any alcohol this review is strictly limited to services rendered, and quality of food. Having never visited this place before, it was about what I would expect as far as a bar/pub goes. The menu had quite a few German delicacies on it, but being a pretzel fan I had one with a bowl of (at the time) their current soup, Potato Leek with Cheddar & Bacon. Again, playing the DD, I ordered a Pepsi. It was not busy to start the evening off, so the drink came right away, and the food didn't take long either. The reason behind this less than glowing review is two-fold. While I got what I wanted in a timely manner, the service was incredibly lacking for how (non) busy they were. The waitress who took my order was very cordial at the time, but seemed to lose interest once I made my order. My food was originally brought to the wrong table, and when I pointed it out I got a funny look like I was not who she had talked to 15 minutes earlier. I had to get up from my friends to go to a different (and empty) table to retrieve my food. My soup was not warm (read: warmer than my drink, but NOT hot) so I basically scarfed it down before it could thicken/congeal, and the "giant" pretzel was decent, if not a little on the bland side. I practically chugged the first Pepsi with my food, and when she came around to make sure everything was indeed on, asked if I'd like another drink. I suppose the fact that she didn't say 'refill' should have tipped me off, but I agreed and she was back shortly with "another". I nursed this one for awhile just by chatting up some friends, meeting new people and friends of friends, etc. I ultimately went the bar somewhat later to order another beverage, which was simply replaced promptly with a new glass. After three to four hours of catching up and it now around half-past midnight, I decided to call it a night as my party was dwindling and I had people to drive home. Having not seen my server for the past 45 minutes I went to close my tab at the bar. Imagine my surprise when each Pepsi (3 total) I ordered that evening was $3.25. In Pint glasses w/ ice mind you. So as the DD I paid almost 30 (with tip, obviously) for a bowl of lukewarm soup, a pretzel, and three pint glasses of soda. All-in-all I didn't choose the location, my friend turning 30 did. And so far as I can tell, everyone else had a decent enough time. But from my standpoint, this was a pretty lackluster experience. All said, I won't be returning here (so long as I don't get to drink, anyway) in the near future if I can help it. read more

Die Bierstube is a great find in Seattle. Last week I went with a friend of mine for a few beers. It was packed for a Monday night so we sat at the bar. The bartender was very friendly and made a great suggestion for a whiskey to go along with my friends beer. He also let us have a taste of their special infused whiskey. He let us know that the kitchen would be closing soon so if we were interested in food we should order quickly. I appreciated that as I've been places before that don't tell you, and then when you want food...there is none. I have found they have great service, even in the busiest times with only two of them working. I recommend this place for anyone who wants to kick back, and enjoy a few beers with your friends. I love this bar. It's unassuming and has great German beers and food. We basically got every food item on the menu and thoroughly enjoyed them all. I especially loved the hot pretzel. Yum. My favorite drink, like Zarah, was the Hacker Pschorr Weisse. It's a must-try. I was a little disappointed that they no longer have beer boots. They made for fun games and a good time all around. If I'm feeling extra snazzy and want to do some people watching, off to Belltown I go. However, the other 90% of the time I prefer a more casual approach to drinking my Doppelbocks. Die BierStube is just one of those no-nonsense taverns highlighting authentic German beers (with the proper glassware mind you). The bartenders are very friendly, very knowledgeable about the beer selection and pretty darn prompt in making sure your beer stein never hits empty. One of my favs is the Spaten Optimator. Been to Freierabend, done Prost!, had to check out Bierstube. Drug my buddy out to join me as a send-off for his trip to Costa Rica since it was in his hood. It was quiet on a Wednesday night. There were a few groups scattered at the tables, bar and games and a b-ball game was playing on the two screens. We chose the bar and ordered a couple of .5L's; I went with the Optimator. Good call on my part - the Optimator lives up to it's transformer-like name, a powerful bier! While swilling our bevies we perused the short menu; Eddy G. ordered the potato leek soup and I had the Ripchen pork tenderloin. Can't say that either one of us were too impressed with the food. So to make up for it we ordered another round and fortified ourselves with more bier. The service was good and very friendly. Behind the bar, Abby was super sweet and I think Eddy G fell in love. If you join the Stein Club you can win all kinds of cool shit. 500 litres & $5500 later you earn the mack-daddy prize - your very own bar stool at BierStube! Don't think I'll go back any time soon for the food but the next time I'm in the mood for some quality bier drinking old skool style like the Germans do it, The Bar would be a good call. I love all of these locations! I've been to this one and Prost! in Phinney Ridge, and must say I love the character that accompany's these spots. Fantastic German beers on tap, tasty german fare, and friendly attitudes make this place one of my favorites when getting Happy Hour with friends. If you bring a big enough group (or big enough drinkers), try the BOOT! I have yet to try this but have seen many others. Parking may be a little difficult, but generally you should be able to find street parking after driving around a bit. read more

Stube is where family is. My friends have been coming here every Monday since college. I'm sure they have spent enough to buy a car together :p Huge selection of delicious beers if it's your first time ask the bartenders what to drink. So much selection, don't waste it on getting a mixed drink. Prices are very reasonable they don't have a huge selection of food so come here to drink. They have Das Boot! Don't be an amateur and put it on the table until it's done and please don't be an idiot and drop it. Great location, not in the heart of the u district so u don't get the bums and college crowd. I've never had a problem with finding street parking. Great for groups come here to meet new people maybe you walk in with two people by the end of the night you've combined tables and are at a table with 15+ people passing a boot around. Only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is cause I wish they had a full kitchen like the other bar the owner owns Feierabend. Amazing German food served there! I recommend the bratwurst mit sauerkraut, and add an extra brat for good, tasty measure. Great for groups, given the traditional German seating arrangement. Everyone here was really friendly, our server knew her beer, and the beer we ordered was delicious. I think it was called something sounding like a Spartan Oktoberfest, although I'm terrible at pronouncing foreign words (even if it would help me order some delicious booze). I'm not going to lie, the best part about this place is they actually have Das Boot. Like, the kind that's straight out of Beerfest. They make you put down a card for a $50 deposit in case you break it, and they tell you the thing holds two liters. But they're lying. It's actually much, much bigger (ok, probably not, but it looks much bigger). The catch is that you have to finish the whole thing without setting it down. This place is wonderful; every single beer was incredibly delicious. Service was quite good - always checking up on us when our beer got low. My friend ordered food and it came out fairly quick too, although it wasn't very busy when we got there. I'll have to try some food next time. Once the crowd came in around 10 or 11pm the bartenders still managed to do a good job. 2 complaints from me, 1) The acoustics in this place are awful. They have music on which isn't terrible but it is pretty much just noise due to the bare walls which just makes it bounce around. It makes it difficult to make good conversation. 2) The bathrooms are singles, but since the place is so small it isn't really an issue. Overall a good experience. read more

3.5 stars, but rounding down. Small but well refined selection of beers from the old country. They also seem to rotate through quite a bit so your particular mileage may vary. Typical of German bars, Die BierStube pours in metric. Your usual 12oz bottle is around 355mL. They only serve 250mL, 500mL, 1L. So keep that in mind when you're trying to plan out your drinking for the evening. Got here early (like 4PM) on a Saturday night so they place wasn't anywhere near crowded. Ok, there were like 10 people there. Ordered some beers (duh!) and the waitress was great with recommending something we enjoy. I ended up getting the Spaten Oktoberfest btw. I ordered the Landjager to snack on. Don't know why but it took like 15-20 minutes to arrive. On the plate is a stick of cold sausage (sliced), two mustards, and two pieces of bread. Don't really understand why it took so long, but that's not too big of a problem since I had .5L of beer to sip down. The sausage was ok. I really wish they had a larger food selection. There didn't seem to be too much in the way of snacks. Most things were almost an entree -- like sausage & kraut on a bun. Some frites would have been perfect. Great beer- bad service. Pretty sure the waiters try to set down your beer/food and run so they're gone before you can open your mouth to ask for silverware or anything else that is a bother. It's actually pretty funny. What to order: Being a vegetarian left me the option of either a pretzel or a salad. They serve beer in boots. That makes this place a winner in my book. Though I'm not exactly a huge german beer fan BierStupe is a fun bar to go to every now and then. Splitting a boot of beer amongst friends is a great time... though remember you may not set the boot down until it's finished!. How you could give Die Bierstube less than five stars is beyond me... I went into Die Bierstube a few weeks after they first opened a few years ago and was pleasantly surprised. I studied abroad in Germany and had not found beer at a bar that was of the same quality as German beer since I got back. Die Bierstube imports all of their beer straight from Germany and I'll tell ya it brought back some great memories. The beer is well-priced and you'll get a buzz quicker than you normally would on domestic beer you'd find at most other bars. The food is delicious and the wait-staff helpful. I've been back to Die Bierstube many a time since and they're very consistent at what they provide. Give it a try some night and you won't be disappointed. read more

If I were to just rate the bar itself and forget about one of the bartenders, I would give this place 4 stars. BEER ---- I'm not a beer drinker, but most of my friends are, and they find the selection of beers one of the highlights of the bar. Also, they serve all their beers in the appropriate type of glassware; makes for a classy beer-drinking experience. GIRLY DRINKS ---- For those of us who prefer the "girly" drinks, you'll find no such super-sweet concoctions here. Herbst Whiskey and Honig Dropf are my favorites. A touch of sweet with more than just a kick of liquor and some nice rounded flavors to boot. They also have a few other creative concoctions that aren't quite my cup of tea. FOOD --- I have never been to Europe, so I'm not THAT qualified to say this, but I believe their food is as close to authentic as you could hope to get in an American bar. Tasty delicious meat and potatoes (don't forget the Sauerkraut!) for the most part. A nice companion to a cold beer. LOOK --- The bar is small, but I love the dark rustic feel and the bar height seating. Lots of flat-screen sports action and a quaint bar that matches the rest of the decor quite nicely. SERVICE --- Finally, the nasty piece of business about the bartender. Most times the service here is fine. However, there is one male bartender who has a nasty habit of not giving you change. Now, if this were just a simple matter of forgetfullness, it might slide. But, when you notify the bartender that you did not receive change, he gets very defensive and puts up a bit of a verbal fight. This has happened to my boyfriend and I twice, on separate nights. And, we have heard of two additional accounts from friends of ours. SUMMARY --- Not a bar you want to miss if you appreciate German Beer and Food ... just steer clear of any male bartenders ... especially when it's busy and they are noticeably preoccupied with watching a sports game. read more
