My husband and I were drawn in here one night while walking along Phinney Ridge. There was an Oktoberfest celebration going on and the place was packed, but we managed to snag a table outside when a group left. For drinks, we ordered the Köstritzer Schwarzbier and Bitburger Pils- about $9 for half a liter, but makes sense given that it's slightly more than a pint and imported from Germany. Great to see places with authentic German beer! For food, we ordered the cheesy bretzel roll, bratwurst with sauerkraut, and Bavarian pretzel. All were tasty, particularly the side pickles that came with everything, although the cheesy bretzel roll is definitely not authentic German food (but still delicious!). At one point, they offered free tasters of beer to everyone from "tapping the keg" which was a really fun experience! Overall, a great place to go for authentic German beer and some bar snacks, but even more fun during the Oktoberfest season. read more

just went in here for my first time with my boyfriend and a few friends. the lager was absolutely lovely! however. the bartender falsely accused both me and my boyfriend of having come into the bar underage. for context: we have recently turned 21 and have been trying out new bars with our older friends. so, while serving us, the bartender decided to accuse both of us of having been served before. and when we protested, they claimed they were "very good with faces." and stood there with a condescending and rude ass look on their face. literally only one of our friends had been there before, so to be so rudely accused of that was super offensive and made the entire rest of the stay uncomfortable. i don't appreciate being accused of shit i've never done and hope the bartender learns to fix their attitude and actually learn to recognise faces. don't recommend going if you're recently 21, lest you be accused by a super rude bartender. read more

Prost is a hidden gem in this neighborhood. We stopped by for a quick beer and found the ambience, food, and service to exceed expectations! They have a great outdoor seating space, complete with German decor and heating. They also have indoor seating and a giant walk covered in German beer steins. The menu isn't extensive but who doesn't love a fresh soft pretzel with pickles and mustard? They have this pretzel with meat that sort of tastes like a pizza. They have both beer and wine options but the Hefeweizen was my favorite. Staff was courteous and there was hand sanitizer a plenty. I am looking forward to visiting Prost again soon. read more

Let me start by saying that we called the tavern prior to arrival to make sure they are kid friendly, which they said they are. Note: they do not provide high chairs as this is a legit bar. I don't know how kid friendly it is as it is small and really would only work for a baby, in my opinion. That being said, my one year old was fine and we luckily brought a portable high chair for her. Now for the food and service. The ladies that helped us were really friendly and attentive. If you go here often enough to kill your liver they have some great items you can try and get with your beer punch card, like shirts, steins, plagues and stools. This place has a good selection of German beer but, if you're not a regular, don't bother coming there. You'll be treated like garbage. I've frequently been ignored by the staff when sitting at the bar and when I request a beverage after being ignored for 10 minutes, it is met with annoyance from the bar staff. Ah! German Bier! What could be better than 2 litres of some sweet, unfiltered heffy? I haven't found anything yet! See my picture for an example, its not a yard of beer (and I don't believe they have them) but it is enough to satisfy ANY thirst, and let me tell you, me and the rest of my gang were thirsty! We all went there with the express purpose of drinking from "Das Boot" like in "Beer Fest" [Broken Lizard Films] but we were slightly disappointed when they came out with an over-sized Guinness glass (but not that disappointed!) It was still big enough to draw looks from everyone in the bar, especially when it was passed across the bar to us, and I had the first sip, and what a sip it was! My face was covered in foam! Before I drank, and I asked if I could set the beer down to let it settle a bit, but they were quite stern about the "you can't set the beer down" rule, so what the hell, go for it! We had about 7 or 8 people to share, so it was fine, and after our 4th 2-liter :O) (apparently you're only supposed to get two per group of 4...memory is fuzzy) But anyhow, I'm surprised we lasted that long due to the smell of rotting Sour Kraut the place had, geez, it was enough to make your first thought be of leaving, not which beer to have first. And to be fair, they did have a great selection of beer, not brauwers great, but 6 German beers I've never heard before great. The waitresses weren't the friendliest I've ever had, but they were accommodating to our large group with no where to sit, except 2 seats in front of the bar. So between the smell, the huskies losing, and the lack of seating, we made our way to another watering hole around 10. Have to recommend this place for the one time experience, I would do it again, but only to experience others to it. Das boot! This is sort of a Neighborhood pub that has a very German feel. The well crafted beers go down nicely and its generally done with a smile and great service. The ownership of Prost has also opened The Ridge Pizza just down the block and you can see the pedigree between the two. This was my first time at Prost! Tavern in Phinney Ridge. It was an excellent one for sure! SERVICE: The service was great! They brought our drinks in a timely manner and we didn't sit long before they took our orders. DRINKS: The drinks were fantastic and our group really enjoyed their chosen ones. My boyfriend particularly enjoyed one that was a "Nutty Amber" - he was a huge fun! The selection of beer and wine was good. I was a little bummed to not see more of a German Wine selection. That was really the only downside. AMBIANCE: The style of the tavern was perfect and definitely looked as if you were in a German pub. There is little space to sit, so if you are bringing a big group, I suggest getting there early. Also, in traditional German etiquette, there are mugs, seats and tables with family names on them. So if someone from that family shows up, prepare to move. Our group will definitely return here. read more

I am assuming it is a training problem because she does things in a different way. She talks to customers on down times but doesn't do any side jobs. Takes her for ever to do anything. This is THE place to catch SF Giants baseball games! We found out about this being an unofficial Giants bar via Reddit, and it made watching the postseason so much more fun this year. Everyone was wearing hats, jerseys, and other gear! Even though our playoff run has come to a close this season (RIP), finding Prost has made the season more memorable. They have a variety of German beers on tap, and service is super attentive and friendly. It's amazing how much the ladies here can get done, even with a full bar and just two of them serving, pouring, busing, cooking. You really feel the lack of German chow competition in Seattle when you come to this place. It has some german beer and it's served in giant glasses. Some sad overpriced plates of middling sausage and breads are available, but I don't recommend them. If you must have something, ask when they last received a pretzel/bread shipment. They get it twice a week and if it wasn't that morning, you shouldn't like it. Think of this like a mini-hoffbrau house without the food and staffed by people who don't know much about what a good German would serve. This is a place to drink beer and maybe eat something. I walked in and there wasn't a place to sit, so I walked down the street to the 74th Street Ale House. Still though, I wanted to check it out, I've heard nothing but great things about it on here. After downing a few pints over some good conversation over at the 74th, we decided to try once more. Luckily, it had thinned out a bit and a few bar stools were now available. Now, I'm not particularly picky when it comes to beer. As long as it tastes half way decent and gets me drunk, I'm usually fine with it. With that said, I'm not sure this is my kind of place. They have a pretty extensive list of German beers served in glasses ranging from the usual pint glass to what looked like a gallon of beer. People seem to love this place and who am I to argue with the masses? I don't know if I'll be rushing back for another go round, but I also wouldn't deny it if someone else suggested it. Prost! and I go way back. I've been to a few of his brethren before (I've partaken in a few "boots" at Die Bierstube & Feierabend is always nice after an REI trip), but this was my first visit to the genesis of this brand of German pub. It's no surprise, but I totally loved this spot as well. There's something about the dark brown woody interiors of these bars which bring out the German in me (well, the Wannabe German in me). Oh, and as with all of their bars, the servers are super nice (and generally super cute). So yes, after a vegetarian meal at Carmelita's or just after bar hopping Greenwood, this is definitely a stop you have to make on your list for the evening read more

I really love Prost!, even though it's siblings now out-shine it (Die BierStube on Roosevelt and Feierabend on South Lake Union) it's still the best beer oriented bar on this stretch of Greenwood. Prost's tap selection is all German all the time but unlike other multi-taps in town the selection doesn't change all that often here except during holidays, which is fine considering the quality of the product. The food selection here is limited to German style pub food like bratwurst w. sauerkraut and hot pretzel w. mustard, but the food is NOT the focus here. Prost is, as other reviewers pointed out, a shoebox sized establishment which gets crowded very fast so I'd skip peak boozing hours in favor of a nice Sunday afternoon visit if you don't like being cheek-to-jowl with drunk 20-somethings and stoic Beer-Dads. I can see what other people are complaining about via the service, but none of the bartenders have ever been rude or dismissive with me, just super busy which may mean a slightly longer wait. As is also noted by others, you can get a punch card to record your purchases to redeem for free beer later which is a nice touch for beer pimps like me. As for not being able to set down "The Boot" while drinking: you get what you deserve if you order a gallon of beer in a giant glass boot. read more

Thank you for making my out of town experience during a world series win all the more better. I was sad, I was missing my friends and family, and I didn't know what to do because I wasn't home but finding out about Prost! and watching the Giants clinch the World Series here made me realize that our fans are the greatest, in SF and outside of SF. Prost! gets! many! things! right! except! for! the! frat! boy! vibe! Sorry, their name is just so exciting. Great place to chillax after a nice dinner at Greenwood Mandarin. The beers are very specialized and not the usual fare. The pub has an intimate scale and fun decorations. The menu is small and fits the theme. I wish I still could stomach bratwurst, or I would eat here. This is a great bar when the crowd is down to earth. read more

The Kassler Rippchen mit Sauerkraut is some of the best pork I have ever tasted. It just works with the hot mustard and the kraut. Yum! What we didn't like- We had 4 plates and every single one we got was chipped! The pretzels are only slightly better than those you would get at the movies or a sporting event. One of the people commented that the only difference between those pretzels and the ones served at Prost is that they aren't cooled off and reheated 40 times before you get it. Service was so/so, only one waitress to a packed (albeit small) house. It would have been much better with 2 people waiting tables. The waitress on duty was doing her best though.
