Prost! is the slighty stuffier older brother to Die bierStube's frat-partying ways. And though I'm past my college days, I much prefer the Stube. Mostly for two reasons: (1) the size/layout of Prost!; and (2) the service. Don't get me wrong--I love small, intimate bars, but Prost! is claustrophobic to the point of incapacitation. Granted, Prost! doesn't have the same large, drunken crowds as bierStube, but even one decent sized party in here can cause overcrowding. More importantly, every time I've been here the service has been sloooooow. In the realm of restaurants, the tortoise never wins the race. Even on days when there are only a couple patrons, it's taken forever to get beer and food. Tables are never bussed and ready to go--in fact, I've bussed them myself several times. My 4 star rating is strictly for the beer. While we did get food here, I thought it was just OK. They only had 1 boot in circulation during our visit and while it was a pain to wait while the 4 other groups in front of us finished their boot, it did bring some competition to the table; which was fun. The atmosphere is very authentic and they have some awesome beers on tap. Everything is also wicked affordable. There aren't many tables for large groups so if you do stop by with a large group, be sure to visit earlier in the day instead of the evening. read more

I'm a fan of Prost's brother-bar in SLU, Feierabend. If you've been there or heard about it, Prost! is really similar. The menu, the beer list, etc is all the same. However, the location is entirely different and therefore so is the atmosphere. I like that Prost! is somewhat more tucked away, somewhat smaller, and somewhat cozier. I love both bars but if I lived closer to Prost I'd probably visit it more often because it has the feel of the types of bars I like to go to. Bottom fermented goodness. Here in the pacific northwest, beer has to have more going on than just cold and boozy (although that doesn't hurt!) This region has an abundance of craft brewers, brewpubs, fine beer availability, bars dedicated to all things beer, homebrewers, organic beers, unique brews, restaurants with beer pairings...you name it! The bummer for some folks is that most of the craft brews you find in seattle are ales and darnit sometimes a lager beer is just plain refreshing. Enter Prost! with its nice selection of bocks, pils and the like. This is the place for me when I want to kick back with a beer that one could drink all day. And I do mean all day. Servings here can get pretty crazy. While most will opt for a scant liter, there are a few that work their livers and bladders over with a full on boot o' beer. Don't let the beer geeks intimidate you on the styles either, the staff at prost will be happy to hand you a menu of which is which on tap and wait for you to make your selection. I'll always be an american ale guy, its what I brew myself and its what I love, but this place is great to switch it up. read more

Ach du lieber! I loves me some Prost!. If you're in for a cozy, friendly place to sample an ample selection of German imports or inspired beers Prost! (and related bars) is a place to go check out. Picnic benches in the traditional German bier-hall style you can settle in next to strangers and kick off a conversation or keep it to yourself. It isn't a very big place but the waitress seemed to be struggling to get my friends their food. On the other hand, they have very generous pours of wine and the food is A+ I have the bratwurst sandwich, a pretzel, and the potato leek soup (hey - I was hungry) and all of it was filling and flavorful. I was disappointed thinking they had a complete dinner menu of authentic German food, but all they have are a few snack-type items to go with your beer. There's something about these places that make you feel happy whenever you go in. It's either their large assortment of German adult beverages, or their delicious pretzels with mustard, or their cheerful staff. Or maybe its DAS BOOT. Anyway, this place is within walking distance from my house and as you can tell is one of my favorites. Has all of the great things about a little pub you would want. This is a cute spot to grab some serious German beers, which you can order in 3 sizes. I ordered a 0.5 L of the Maisel dunkleweissebeir and enjoyed myself. They serve the beer with rich foamy head. Their food menu is pretty decent, featuring German fare-- Pretzels, land jäger, bratwursts, sauerkraut, etc. For $8 I received a delicious bratwurst with sauerkraut and pickle spears that hit the spot perfectly. Quick note-- although they have Franziskaner logo on their signs, door, walls, etc., they do not actually serve it. They like to serve only authentic German beers and since Franziskaner got bought by AB/InBev, they stopped carrying it. Which is a bit of a shame bc the main reason we stopped in was so my husband could have it on draft and then was disappointed that despite their signage, they no longer carry it. This is the primary reason I gave them a 4 instead of a 5 star. read more

Went here to knock another food off my 100 things to eat before I die list. I had to get curry wurst and Prost had what I needed. Went there after goulash and spaetzle at people's pub so I was stuffed when I got there. They also had a bunch of good German beers on tap but I was too stuffed to try any. What I wasn't too stuffed for was the curry wurst. My oh my was it tasty. For those not in the know curry wurst is a bratwurst that is boiled in seasoned boil then topped with curry ketchup and served with a side of rye bread and pickles. I'll be back! read more

This is a fun little German themed bar that serves up decent food in a pub that makes you feel like you are in Europe. My friends and I ended up here to watch the US Women's World Cup and had no problem finding a seat straight away. We ordered a smoked roast beef sandwich and a curry wurst, both of which had good flavor but seemed like small portion sizes for the price. The type of beer they serve is not really my style as the menu focuses a lot on light lagers (considering the lack of flavor these seemed pricey at $5 for .3L). If you like German food and beer definitely drop in for a visit. It's a quality establishment. However both the food and beer menu didn't appeal too much to my particular tastes, especially given the prices. read more

Great place with fun and new beers. The atmosphere is cozy and most of the regulars are really friendly. One of the few places on the ridge that I have encountered without it's super "too cool for school" bullshit. Nice. Food is not worth it, but go for the beer. Great beer and fun customers. Most of the staff is great - Most of them, one black haried girl is not so nice, but 90% of them are super friendly and happy to be there. You know I have been going there more and more lately. Seems like every time I head for this place it is too full to fit another person. Which is a shame because it has some mighty fine beers. My favorite is the Dinkel Acker Dunkel, a dark malty lager that I haven't seen anywhere else in Seattle. And you buy it by the liter (confuses some people....don't worry, one liter is less than one gallon) I don't think they have a full kitchen so the food options are slim, especially if you are after dinner, but they are tasty! Other attractions - dart boards, the 2 liter boot and you get a plaque on the wall or a bar stool named after you if you drink enough beer here...hmmmm, not sure I quite want to advertise exactly how much I drink.... read more

I will just give this place 2 for now...but that is if I ever go back again. I favor german bars as it is of my heritage and so my man & I stopped in one day for one. Very small. Very packed. We took the only seats at the bar that were left. The bartender didn't even acknowledge us for at least 5 minutes. Then, without a smile, she asked us what we wanted. "Well, sorry to inconvenience you" I felt like saying. Their "member" paraphernalia was pretty cool- shirts, mugs, even nameplates at the barstools for the hardcore Prost-ers. I love this place. I've come in a couple times and it just feels comfortable right away. The food is comforting and good. The beer is German. The staff are friendly and, dare I say, warm? Last night, they mulled some wine and included everyone in on the process of burning the sugar into it. Then, they gave everyone a taste. Prost! is where I met my boyfriend. I attended the Trivia night here every Monday for months with a good friend and we always enjoyed the atmosphere and service. It's insane how the service is always on point, no matter how crazy busy this place gets. The space is very limited so I would suggest arriving early-ish if you want to cop a squat. Otherwise, where very comfortable shoes. Don't say I didn't warn you. The building is a little hidden and I tend to basically pass it almost every time. Parking is easily found along the side streets. Do not park in the lot at the market next door, FYI. Inside, the lighting is great in the day as the wall facing the street is basically all window so you get a lot of natural light. At night, the dark wood mixed with the low lighting make the feel of the place relaxed and encourages you to take your leisure and time in whatever you are doing. My BF claims that I was a brunette when we met (I'm a BRIGHT red head), to give you an idea how how dark it can seem. The beer is great and potent! 1-2 liters gets me rolling on a major good one. If you are not familiar with The German beer, ask the bartenders. They are pretty well versed and can help you make some pleasant choices. I really wish they would open one of these in QA. I've been to the sister bar Feierabend in SLU and Prost is just as cool. Love the ambiance, decor, German beer selection and German cuisine. Nothing's finer than tossing back German schwarz bier out of liter steins and chewing on a huge pretzel. The rustic interior looks like you've stepped into Germany and the wooden tables and bar complete the scene. My favorite time to hit this place up is on a Thursday night. My boyfriend & I love to frequent German establishments in whatever new city we find ourselves in, so we finally made it to Prost! to see how Seattle's German fare compares to the rest of the country's. One takeaway is that I definitely can't judge purely on this place alone, as the (food) menu was ridiculously short. I'll be visiting the sister establishments before coming to any conclusions. However, my thoughts on this place are that it is quite small, so I could see not being able to get a table easily if you came during prime drinking hours, which would be quite a disappointment if you had been looking forward to a delicious pint of German beer all week. The food was good, but not great (the beet salad was my favorite thing, but I don't crave it the way I crave other dishes from other German restaurants I've been to), though frankly, I would have liked to have seen more variety. There were less than a handful of items that even appealed to me, and I like to drink on a full stomach so that I don't get stupid drunk super fast. Trust me, no one else wants this either! ;) Bottom line, the beer is top notch and after having the best damn time out after a couple liters (him) and a couple pints (me) that we've had in a looong time, my boyfriend and I decided this is definitely a place we'd come back to to drink...but that's about it. read more

I'm completely puzzled by this place. Went here once about a year ago and liked it enough. Beer selection was good and the food was pretty decent. But then, I go there again about two months ago when a friend was in town and I was shocked at how bad it was. It was about 7 or 8 at night, and the place was a little busy, but not overly so. My friend and I order two of the curry sausages and some beer to start. The beer that was poured was so heady that it was flat on the first sip. When the food came, both mine and her sausage were completely inedible. As a former cook, I could tell what they had done: they had (barely) precooked it and then (barely) reheated it to order. The result was a mushy, disgusting, lukewarm mess. The only reason this review is getting an extra star is due to the OK experience from the first time around. Otherwise, I would have to say that this was easily the most disappointing bar I've been to, and I've never left a bar faster. Might have been a new and altogether terrible bartender, but I'm definitely not coming back to find out. read more

Such a great pub with a really interesting rotating German beer selection. My husband and his friends meet at Prost EVERY Friday night. I join them at least once a month and always have such a great time! The beer is good and the food is solid, but - most importantly - the ladies tending bar are the BEST! I most often see Helen and Jessica there and they are hands down, the reason we all keep going back. Those ladies are super friendly, professional and skilled at pouring all those high-maintenance German beers while also taking good care of the customers. Thanks ladies!
