First off, let me start by saying, I do not typically like beer. It's very filling, and takes me a long time to drink. And being the nuerotic girl I am, I can't stand drinking anything if its gone warm. So, I usually steer clear from the beer! HOWEVER, I love Prost! And it's beer. Contridicting my entire previous statement. Don't you love doing that? A must is the Franziskaner Weissbier, very light, and a bit sweet. And surprisingly tastes reminicent of bananas. NOT my favorite fruit, but tasty in my beer. If you're brave order the 2 litre boot, and share it with your friends. Or if you're a boozer drink it all yourself. Don't forget to order a hot pretzel with 2 kinds of mustard, it'll save you from the drunk stumble to find food later. read more

I like Prost! I also love German food and beer, so that is probably why I like this place, The staff is friendly, and so are the regulars I've met. so it's a comfortable place to drink. That said, the place has a number of problems that keep it at the 3 star level, and it probably rates a star lower to people who can't deal with it's faults. Fault number one is that their kitchen in a joke. While they use only the finest ingredients, there is not much you can do with toaster oven and a weenie boiler. Yes, they use only Bavarian Meats products, and everyone knows their würst is the best. I'm not asking much, just some spätzle and rot kol to go with my würst. The next fault is that they are just too tiny. Now, I don't judge a place by the physical limits of the space they are in. I do judge a place by how they use the space they have, When you have a long and narrow space, it's already hard for people to move around when you get busy. Now, when you split that long, narrow, space in half with a buddy bar so that you can call the other side the 'dinning room' for your class H license, all you really accomplish is making the place even more dangerous in a fire, and only handicapped accessible if there is no one there. I don't know what this place could do if someone showed up on a busy night in a wheel chair, and expected any sort of accommodation. Still, when I have that urge to get my drink on in the German style, nothing beats a liter of Spaten Oktoberfest and some curry-würst at Prost! read more

Good beer- meh food. I ordered curry wurst and I don't recommend it. Call me uncultured, but I've never have had curry wurst that wasn't cooked. This wasn't cook. Prost is an excellent German bar. They have lots of great German beers on tap. They also make sure they have the correct German glass for each beer, since the proper glass adds to the experience of the German beer. The food menu is VERY limited, and you generally would not go here for dinner. However, if you want some good drinks and a great atmosphere, this would be great to go. The bar is kind of small, so its tough to get a table sometimes at peak hours. I've generally sat at the bar since that is usually available. The staff is always friendly. read more

After a day of hard work on Friday, we decided to treat ourselves and headed to Prost! a German-style pub on Phinney Ridge. Our friends absolutely love this place, so we met them there for drinks and dinner. I had a delicious bloody mary and we all ordered what our friends say is the best thing on the menu: the Brezel Sandwich. It features thinly sliced German Cervelat and Jagdwurst with mixed greens, red onions, cheddar, and swiss on a Morning Star pretzel roll, toasted and topped with horseradish aioli and stone ground mustard. I'm telling you, this sandwich is beyond delicious. My friend and I are both obsessed with sauerkraut, so we had the brilliant idea to order it as a side and add it to our sandwiches... A heavenly choice. I've been to Prost! a few times now, and it's always been full of people (but not packed), and the food and service has been great. read more

Simply put the best environment to enjoy beer and good company. The classic beer hall decorations, wood furniture, incredible staff and perfect beer cannot be beaten. This recipe exists in all the great beer cultures in northern climates. And what it produces is an undeniably comfortable place to laugh, drink and enjoy life. I am a beer guy who likes ales. However, this is the place for someone who likes German style lagers. The service is fast and friendly. You may have to wait for your beer a bit. Great neighborhood bar featuring excellent German beer. The place tends to get extremely crowded quickly. I like going in the early evening when the tables are full of friends and an older gentleman reading a thick book and working on his bratwurst but there's still a few seats at the bar. Otherwise, if you snag one of the two outdoor tables you're a lucky one and set for the night. Free pretzles to snack on and a couple of dart boards on the raised platform offer endless entertainment. read more

I had the best time at Prost on Saturday. Prost is real small, so get there kinda early...my friends and I snagged a table when we got there a little after 9:00. Great selection of German beers on tap. In true German pub fashion, we made friends with the table next to us and all shared a giant boot. The way a pub night should go...also, what's not to like about pretzels and hefeweizen? My only complaint is that the place is too small so it's hard to get a table, but you just might be forced to sit by a stranger which could end up being fantastic. Tiny little hole in the wall that did not impress me. First off its impossible to get in through the front door if there are more than 8 people there. If you do manage to make it inside, good luck finding a place to sit (even standing is difficult). What initially attracted me to this place was the fact that you can get beer served in a giant glass boot. What they don't tell you is that: 1. There are only certain hours you can get one 2. You must have a minimum of three people 3. You can not set the boot down at any point 4. You are only allowed one bootfull of beer. Forget that, way too many rules. I have my own glass boot at home now and can drink as many bootfulls of beer as I please, I can set my boot down and there is no need to share. read more

two kinds of mustard. need i say more? what's that? oh. ok. right. i guess that needs some context. sure. well...ok - so i'm referring to the bratwurst here. which comes with the aforementioned two kinds of mustard. and a mountain of sauerkraut. and - no bun. you do get some bread with it. so i suppose you could fashion a bun from the bread - but i think it's better just to go after the brat with a fork and knife. and it's an outstanding stomach-prepper for just 6 bucks. the beers on tap rotate here - and they are all impossible for me to pronounce and/or spell - but if you're a fan of german beers - this is your spot. it's also one of the few establishments that forces you to say the name with a little emphasis: prost! i can think of only one other spot off-hand that mandated the exclamation mark, and that was of all places - the boise public library. right there on the side of the building it says "library!" no joke. next time you're in idaho, check it out. i think it was an effort to make reading and thinking sound fun. i don't think it worked. bush has been elected twice. read more

If you don't like German Beer then Prost! (German for cheers) is not going to excite you. However, if you do appreciate the subtle delightfulness of one of these brews imported from the kigdom of beer and served in that bier's appropriate glassware, this place will be your heaven as it is mine. A friendly neighborhood bar with interesting folks to talk to is my idea of a good night. Ah, German beer, brings back memories of living in Berlin. Not too cold, not too warm, deep and dark, but you've gotta be in the mood. This is a decent neighborhood place for a beer and to meet up with friends. They have a good selection but pretty much stick to their theme. The waitress at Prost was terribly mean to us. We came with our close friends one of which has Asperger's syndrome. She discriminated against us because of this. We will never visit Prost because of this waitress. She has red short hair, bangs, a nose piercing and a tattoo on her ankle. She refused to give us service even though we were polite, asked her her recommendations and she replied, "it doesn't matter what I think because I'm a different person". Get better staff Prost, because after meeting this terrible waitress, I don't plan on returning or telling my friends to go to your restaurant. I wish I knew her name because her discrimination toward my friend with a disability was completely uncalled for. We're all responsible hard working adults. Used to go here when they first opened and I loved it, but I don't think I am cool enough any longer. About 6 months ago I went in, ordered a beer, got something other than what I ordered, bartender said I was incorrect. The guy next to me said she did the same to him. Then my girlfriend and I went in, sat at the bar, and the TWO bartenders wouldn't even come over to say hello even though they stared at us multiple times. I honestly am done. Customer service has become extinct at this place. I also will never go back, Seattle has a lot more bars and ones that will treat their customers better. read more

I have tried to go enjoy the fantastic beer selection here at least 10 times. The place always feels right. The decor is excellent. The whole vibe is just right and then I sit there for 10 minutes before any acknowledgement. Nobody says "hey welcome!" or "be right with you." Instead I get nothing. No eye contact. Nothing. It happened again just now. I was so ready for a cold delicious beer. I sat right at the bar and the dude was swamped with 6 people in the place. I have lived near that spot and watched in change owners 5 times. I want to like Prost. I really do. I'm a regular looking Joe from Phinney Ridge. I love it here! A narrow, wooded place full of German beers and walls decorated with a moose head and rows of "stein club" steins and plaques honoring those who do a lot of drinking at Prost. The bar has a warm, intimate vibe and the staff have always been super friendly. Full disclosure: I haven't had any of the food (yet) and I've only been on Monday nights, but after a handful of visits I'm just such a fan of the Monday scene. Monday is their trivia night and trivia at Prost is a breed of its own. It's not run by any kind of company (like Geeks Who Drink, etc.) but rather by bar patrons, on a voluntary/rotating basis. Trivia this way is awesome! A little bit different each week depending on who's hosting, but always efficient (it doesn't take 3 hours) and no-gimmicky. Every player puts in $2 and the winning team gets the money. Second place team wins a "boot of beer," and that boot is BIG (2 liters, I believe). Tends to be 4 rounds of 10 questions each and teams correct each other's answers after each round (again with the efficiency!). Not sure I can ever go anywhere else for trivia. :) read more

I've been here twice, including once on a Saturday night with at least a dozen people, and didn't have a problem getting a seat or service. The selection of beers is expectedly German-only (or at least German-style), but they do have a full range from very light to very dark. The Spaten Optimator Doppelbock is dark, rich, and delicious. At $4.75 for .5L, the price is pretty good too, though you may have to point that out to the bartender, as we had to. The only food I've tried there (besides the ubiquitous mini-pretzels) is the bratwurst with sauerkraut, and the sauerkraut is absolutely amazing! Even if you think you don't like sauerkraut, there's a very good chance this stuff will change your mind. The bartender did seem a little surly when we first arrived, but she warmed up eventually and even made a joke. It was unexpected and caught us off guard, but we appreciated the effort and were touched. ;-) If you have several careful friends (so you don't break it and lose your $50 deposit), you should try drinking from The Boot, aka Der Stiefel. (Contrary to what movies like Beer Fest would have you believe, it's not actually called Das Boot.) read more

Finally able to snag a table at Prost on a Friday night, and I think my opinion might have been more positive before actually drinking here. One person was working the entire bar, so it was slow, crowded, and there was no table service to speak of. That might've been understandable, given the severe understaffing, but what's Prost's excuse for the inconsistency between the menu and what's actually on tap? One example: boyfriend ordered an Erdinger Dunkelweiss, only to be told that they don't have any Dunkelweiss on tap, just this dark hef from Hacker Pschorr. There wasn't any Hacker Pschorr beer on the menu, and no Erdinger on tap -- and call me crazy, but isn't Dunkelweiss...a dark hef? Also, the bartender just assumed the size of beer we wanted and started pouring...thank god she went with .5 Liters, I guess. Definitely, definitely recommend Die Bierstube over this place. read more
