Shoe shopping today!!! Jacob was my shoe salesman today and he was awesome. He was super friendly and super smart and all the different types of athletic shoes for my needs. I came looking for shoes that combined comfort and stability and I found a new pair of HOKAs. He also introduced Brooks and Nike air for me (hot pink one) and it looked good but didn't offer the comfort as the HOKA had. I also noticed how he was always friendly and chill and helpful to a lot of customers and he was patient and asked what they were looking for. He also checked the stock of each item to ensure they had it in the store for customers to try one. Very good associate and you get the genuine feeling that he was attentive and listened to your needs in looking for the best shoe! Easy transaction at the front. Great value for the type of shoe that I bought today. Other good aspects of the store was that they had a variety of other sporting goods for sale. Tons of white socks, as well as colored socks. Large variety of athletic attire, sporting equipment, and lots of golf clubs. Rest of the staff were cool and items were clearly marked and matched register prices. Great shopping experience today. He also gave me the tip that Dicks match Amazon or Nike website prices so that's also good!

I was dissapointed with my visit here today. The employees are friendly. The selection of merchandise for local sports teams is very good. However, they do not sell merchandise for non local teams. They sell a lot of shoes and generic sporting goods. The value is poor because everything is very expensive. In addition there is hardly any places to sit down inside the store.

Lots of items to choose from for outdoor sports. Great shoe selection. A lot of clothes to choose from. Poor service though - walked through the whole store watching workers talking with each other but not greeting and helping customers. That's sad. Nice wide isles though - clean.

I think this store has a great variety! Also, shout out to Nick who took the time to help carry our weights out to the car for us!

Upper management needs to shop in their stores to see how bad the whole culture is... from floor sales to cashiers... it's all bad.

The sign on the shelf for 4oz and 8oz ISO did not specify which brand so I asked a friendly associate. I didn't know that JetBoil branded isobutane canister can be used for MSR and vice versa. Cool beans! Also, the 8oz is a better deal than the 4oz and the only disadvantage is that it won't fit inside the JetBoil pot. The cashier asked if I want to apply some past credit I forgot about which brought the total expense even less! While there, I checked out the latest trail running footwear which I am due to be acquiring as well! Came in the middle of the week at 3pm and very few shoppers.

EVA and manager AARON falsely accused me of returning the wrong item, even though the item matched my REI account, app, original tags, barcode, and product details. They made this accusation in front of my family and other customers, which was very embarrassing. I asked them a simple question: "What exactly is different?" They refused to answer. That tells me they had no real answer. They accused me first, then avoided explaining their own accusation. While EVA was still processing the return, AARON told me to leave and threatened security for no valid reason. After all that, they still processed the return. So the item was correct all along. This was a false accusation, poor judgment, zero accountability, and terrible management. REI leadership should review this incident seriously.

MY QUEST FOR WOMEN'S SNOW PANTS…read more.. I was in need of buying my own pair of snow pants for an upcoming snowboarding trip where I did not want to spend too much, but wanted some quality pants that wouldn't rip after one use. let me tell you... I searched far and wide! I first initially searched on amazon and all of those seemed to be poor quality for those under $40 and I could not try on so I opted to not buy online. I then went to nearby stores (REI - best quality, most expensive & Dick's Sporting Goods - middle of REI & Big 5 with pants around $60 and slightly better quality than Big 5). my last stop was at Big 5 (I also happened to get in the mail a day before I went a $10 of $30 purchase!) and was pleasantly surprised! I had not been to Big 5 in years, but they have almost everything packed into this relatively small store!!!! from camping to snow gear to sports gear they had a wide selection. I was going in February so it was nice to see they had a whole rack or two for snow pants and I found a pair of pants for $40 that fit perfect for my height and may not have been as thick as REI/Dick's but it still was a easier and better design but cheaper with a quality that would hold going a few times a year. when checking out I used my coupon for $10 off and to my surprised the pants were also on sale for another $5 off... so in total my good quality snow pants were $25!!!!!!! CAN YOU BEAT THAT?! PROS: -really nice, chill staff and didn't even look down upon me for using a coupon! they even made conversation so I really liked this place -the discounts they normally have! -every couple of weeks I get mailed a coupon for $10 of $30 and this came much in handy! -the variety -low prices -changing rooms (2) -easy, huge parking lot CONS: -none! OVERALL: do not be a fool, look at Big 5 along with the other big name chains and you won't regret it!

Big 5 is an interesting spot. If I had a kid where I needed to outfit them for a sport, but they…read morewere not overly competitive, I would shop here. Everything seems aimed at the mid-range market. Not toys like you would get at Target or Walmart, but also not the high end equipment you would get at a specialty store. There are also lots of things for game rooms, family picnics... sports equipment that again, it elevated from the toy category but not what you would get at a high end shop. The type of stuff that won't break after one use but also not where you are going to be upset if you forget it at the park.

At first I didn't know where to start and it was difficult to find people out on the floor to help. I was struggling to find the right helmet size and was ready to just call it go somewhere that had more staff (just to be clear i work in retail and I know it can be hard to get full staff on a holiday so I don't hold it against the store by any means I just chose the wrong day to shop lol) but then John over at the repair shop offered to help me out with the helmets adjusting them so I knew which size was right. So I kept going back to John to for any questions I had. He was very friendly, knowledgeable and professional I really appreciate him helping me out even though that wasn't his job to do. Management I want you to know John himself single-handedly kept this customer in the store when they were ready to leave and made sure my 1500 dollar sale didn't walk out the door. Thanks John!

I bought skates on sideline but didn't know anything about sizing for hockey skates and the results were predictably terrible. Everyone in the locker room really wanted to help me and recommend I go to a shop in Anaheim or to hockey monkey in Irvine. The guys vouching for hockey monkey won me over with their stories of how good the staff was. I did not have a good experience, will not go back, and do not recommend. As stated... total beginner. I informed the sales rep, Alex, about my price range and that I'm just getting started and he grabbed some skates. I settled on a a pair and he informed me of the baking process. He baked my skates, laced them up for me, told me he would be right back and that I needed to remain seated for them to cool. Then - unbeknownst to me - he clocked out and went home. I waited there with my family ( we were hard to miss) until a manager came and told me the store was closed. I felt like a complete idiot. I hadn't even paid for the skates yet. I didn't know the process. The manager told me they still needed to be sharpened. They were nice enough to do that after close and the guy doing the sharpening was cool. But I was still really disappointed and felt stupid. Everyone in the hockey community has been cool up until this point. Very discouraging. Here is the kicker. I was just sitting there. Prime customer for gear. You could have sold me waxed laces, orthotics, pads, helmet, Anything! Im super new to the sport and definitely could have used the help. Easy sales. I will be going to the other store the guys recommended in Anaheim and probably play it again or online. Why would I ever go back to MonkeySports?!?
