I know the whole gimmick is that the staff is supposed to be rude, but there's a huge difference between playing a character and just providing terrible service. This was our first visit to Dick's. They are known for being somewhat rude and crass to customers but if you don't want the full Monty, you can request and they can do "nice". The menu and decor are a bit suggestive, so you may want to leave the kids or those easily offended at home. Dick's has a great happy hour (M-F) which they call Crappy Hour. We were the only people at the bar. Embere, the bartender, was great, perfectly rude and efficient. I enjoyed a couple Margaritas. The fried pickle apps are wonderful, with a light corn meal breading. They have a full menu serving traditional American fare. Prices are reasonable. Our hats were great and the vibe of the place was unruly, the place looked rundown, and there was a bunch of tacky merch to buy. So overall, it was pretty good. The food was good. You can't walk in here expecting the best food possible. It's bar food. We got the Dicks sampler. It came with chicken wings, mozzarella sticks, fried pickles and chicken tenders with 4 different dipping sauces. All good. Nothing tasted like old oil like some places. The evening started off fun for our first visit during FDIC with a group of 9 of us. The fun started waning when our server wouldn't check on our drinks or bring water we requested 3 times. Two of our party ordered steaks and they arrived first. They were totally finished eating when the rest of our food arrived. Once our food arrived there were two additional steak orders. One couple ordered nacho and there order never came. Finally after quite some time the server finally returned and was told of the duplicate steak and no nachos. Have to say, we were very disappointed in our Dick's experience in Indianapolis. Probably because we had such an awesome experience at the Mall of America. We decided to do a late lunch at Dick's to avoid the crowds and any wait for a table. While that strategy worked beautifully, it was obvious they did not have their crackerjack staff on during this non-peak hour of the day. The Good: We were seated promptly, and our wait staff was attentive. The food came quickly, and it was hot and fresh. And, when we were ready to leave, they quickly cashed us out and got us on our way. The Not-So-Good: We came specifically to get a good laugh and poke fun at each other through the rude and rambunctious behaviors of the wait staff. BIG let down. Our hats, the primary purpose of laughing at each other, were weak and thoughtless. Although my wife did get another Walmart shout-out on her hat just like she did in Minneapolis. For the restaurant not being at all crowded, they hardly messed with us at all, and the jokes were delivered half-heartedly, if at all. Meanwhile, one table over, they were getting the royal rude treatment and laughing at each hysterically almost the entire time. #feelingleftout While the food was quick and hot, it was MEDIOCRE AT BEST. Caveat: If you go to Dick's for the exquisite cuisine, you are making a mistake. Known more for their hilarious banter and unique cocktails (which we did not try). My BEEF: for the price we paid for the food, it should have been way better, especially since we did not get what we paid for in entertainment. This gets a DON'T BOTHER, or better yet, DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY. Minneapolis set the bar HIGH, and Indianapolis barely even got on the bar. The pork had no flavor! And the onion rings were ok. They were not hot and there was only four of them. I would not order it again. All of the food was mediocre at best.
