4.5/5 My friends and I are huge fans of Daniel del Prado restaurants so we were super excited to try Dexter's when it opened! This one is a little outside of the city in Edina and something about the aesthetic didn't quite land for us, it felt like a cross between an upscale lounge and a sports bar with giant TVs playing random channels. Lots of families were here the night we were in as well so it seems somewhat kid friendly. Service the whole night was great and provided lots of recommendations! For food, we tried a few things including the caviar, trout roe, and cauliflower. HIGHLY recommend the trout roe and the cauliflower. For the caviar, we ended up having to swap the shoestring potatoes it came with for the ones that came with the roe since the shoestring fries couldn't scoop the caviar without spilling, but the crunch of the shoestring fry went well with the trout roe dip so it worked out! The cauliflower was a standout of the night. For entres - my favorites were the elote burger and fried chicken sandwich 100%. We also split some dessert and both the cakes were delicious (coconut was a fav) and I adored the chocolate hazelnut gelato best. read more

Dexter's started brunch up last weekend and sometimes you can tell when a meal service is new it feels unorganized or rushed. That was not the case at Dexter's you would have thought they always had brunch. Our experience was great service , food and drinks. We had a party of 8 girls for a birthday brunch and they seated us quickly. The Elote burger was incredible I would highly recommend it the jalapeño and cheese give the smash burger incredible flavor! The cheese curds were another favorite the powder cheese on top worked. Visited 10/10/24. Go for the apps, and mayyybe nothing else. (Even then I would still hoof it across the street and hit up red cow, or even better drive to St Paul and go to Brunson's). Dexter's is another Daniel Del Prado creation-this time his take on a burger joint. While I do feel like it could cater decently to the Edina crowd, to me it felt somewhat soulless. A burger joint should be lively with screens, noise, and good ambiance. Dexter's had low candle lighting, tables packed together (literally felt like 6 inches away from the table next to us), and an air of pretentiousness that was kind of hard to shake throughout the meal. Pacing of the meal kind of disjointed and we both left disappointed as we had high hopes for this to be in our rotation of burger spots. To start off I got a cider while my sister got a beer (she ordered a pickle on the side like she always gets with coors and this was a slightly surprisingly difficult request, took quite a bit of convincing on our part). We also ordered the cacio e Pepe cauliflower and the fried pickles. These apps were definitely the shining stars of the night and if I end up re-visiting, I would definitely order especially the cauliflower again. For dinner I got the bacon burger while my sister got the chickpea burger. I'm going to be honest, if you are going to charge $16-17 for burgers it's a bit shocking that you aren't going to include a side of fries. My burger had a lot of flavor and I enjoyed it for the most part. I like never complain about too much flavor but I will say it's a very rich burger (I would be willing to skimp a bit on the patty if I was given a side of fries!). My sister's chickpea patty was dry and spicy and when she did ask for a side of ketchup it took about 8-10 minutes for it to come out. Sometimes with burgers the simpler, the better and this felt like clear evidence of that. Overall a lackluster experience and you could get a better burger and ambiance at a cheaper price at many different burger joints in the cities. read more

My bestie and I had a late Monday night dinner here. Visited around 8:00pm. Entered the restaurant and no one was maintaining the hostess table at the moment, but quickly a gentleman came to greet and seat us. The vibe is almost like super club atmosphere with dim lighting, small intimate tables, and unique drink and food menu. Cozy upscale-ish place. Our server Brady was friendly. We asked what his favorite burger was and immediately without hesitation answered the Elote burger, so of course, we went with his recommendation. We also had an order of onion rings. Split both and the portion was just perfect. The elote burger was very flavorful and a burger I'd definitely get again. The sesame bun was incredibly soft and so light. Only thing is I wish the burger packed some spice. Maybe I'd need to ask for more jalapeños. The onion rings were light as well and I liked the thickness of the onions. I was not a fan of the sauces served with it, I think a nice horseradish sauce would be really good with it. For dessert we had the passion fruit gelato. It was so cold, but very tasty and tart. It was topped with some granola which provided a nice crunch. It was also served in a cute little dish, perfect amount to share. Just needed a taste to satisfy the sweet tooth. Overall, experience was good. However, I had to call the next day regarding a charge on my card I noticed while reviewing my transactions. The gentleman I spoke to handled the situation pretty good after allowing me to explain my situation a second time and appears it's all cleared up now. I came here over their opening weekend, and was glad I got to try it! This is a new concept for Daniel Del Prado - more lowkey and chill than the usual upscale feel. Since I was there opening weekend, there were some hiccups with seating, but I think it'll iron out with time. One warning is this place isn't as large as I thought it would be - definitely try for a reservation. I also wouldn't recommend going with more than 4 people since the sizes of the shareables aren't too large. The service here was really wonderful, the ambiance was just a little odd. It feels a little torn between being a sports bar and a trendy spot to eat - there are giant TVs everywhere but it's decorated very minimalist/boho. I wouldn't quite come here to watch a game, but also wouldn't come for a celebration meal. Maybe a good date night spot, but it's very suburban in Edina. I feel like this would've been a good place to put near Target Center for pre-game bites. My friends and I split A LOT - my foodies wanted to try about everything! If you're a fall girl and an espresso martini girl - you need to try Dexter's. I had mine with Tequila and it was such a cozy/spicy martini - I fell in love! My friends also loved the martini flight and other cocktails. After splitting a bunch of apps, here are my thoughts: CAVIAR - Delicious, but served with the wrong type of fries. We ended up taking the waffle fries from the trout roe for this. You can't really get caviar on a shoe-string potato. TROUT ROE - MUST GET, like an upscale sour cream and onion dip. CAULIFLOWER - also highly recommend! Super rich. CHEESE CURDS - Skip, these aren't bad just very basic. For dinner we also split a few entrees: ELOTE BUGER - MUST GET, so flavorful, unique and delicious! FRIED CHICKEN SANDWICH - I didn't try this but my friends LOVED TUNA MELT - If you are a tuna salad girly like me, MUST - so delicious I still think about it. Finally, for dessert: CHOCOLATE HAZELNUT GELATO - So rich and flavorful, like eating frozen nutella CARROT CAKE - Delicious, lots of people recommended COCONUT CAKE - MUST GET if it's available, it was so fantastic we couldn't get enough of it! Had a reservation, still forced to wait 20 minutes for a table due to poor management. Tables sat empty while none of their team cleaned them. Came on a Monday night and of all the holiday drinks, they only had one available citing the rest as "sold out". Additionally, several of their beers were also unavailable. After seeing the table next to us able to order one of the "sold out drinks", the waiter said oh yeah, that changed. Maybe you can get that as your next drink after we had already ordered but he couldn't change the order on our behalf. As for the food, had a very long wait for it to come out while half the tables sat empty. When the food finally came, the fries were cold. This place is not worth the hype and even with the owner present, it was horrible service. read more

Our first experience at Dexter's was a few weeks after it opened. We had a reservation but managed to be seated 20 minutes early, which we appreciated. Overall the ambiance inside is like a slightly elevated sports bar. Tables are small and not super clean and there was a lack of menus to the point where drink menus were being passed amongst tables. We both started with the dirty vodka martini on the cocktail list and were both disappointed. Not nearly dirty or cold enough, and the herbal notes were a bit odd. So for our next drink we both ordered a classic dirty martini (extra dirty) and while it was slightly better without the herbal flavor, it again wasn't very dirty or cold. For a restaurant that makes its schtick martinis we found it strange that we couldn't get a good one. For food we started with cheese curds, which were good. We then split the beef tongue pastrami sandwich, Dexter burger, and a side of fries (which are a la carte). For the price of the sandwiches/burgers ranging from $15-26 you'd expect a side included rather than having to pay $11 for a side. The pastrami sandwich was incredible - 10/10 recommend and would get again. The burger was pretty good, the bun got soggy quickly though which was unfortunate and we never got the ketchup we asked for with it. Fries were good. For dessert we ordered the vanilla caviar gelato with olive oil and sea salt - absolutely delicious. We also both ordered espresso martinis at this point and it was honestly terrible. It had a menthol flavor that was very off putting - how hard is it to make a classic drink?? Overall I think there's room for improvement as they find their footing. Definitely a bit overpriced but could be mitigated by better drinks and atmosphere improvements. Given you're in Edina it's what you'd expect from a price perspective. read more

Dexters is on another level!! I'm from california but was in town to visit family and we had such a great dinner here - one of my favorite meals of the summer!! Ambiance is trendy but also really approachable as a sports bar too. Food wise, the menu is really versatile so there's something for everyone from (picky eaters and foodies alike) which makes it a good place to go if you're with a group. Drinks - As soon as we sat down we noticed the table next to us had flights of martinis (on the menu as "Tiny Tini's") so we had to try. I felt a little bad that the server had to bring us 5 different trays of 3 martinis each, but she handled it like a pro and it really set the vibe for the whole night. Other favorite drinks were Naked in Tulum and Make Up, Make Out (which had a fun touch of a lipstick kiss stenciled onto the top of the foam). If you're coming with the group, the La Flameco is a punch bowl. Was really good and perfect size for the 5 of us with some extra leftover. Apps - My favorite apps were the trout roe dip (standout of the night for me - this is a must order) and the caviar (so fun with the shoestring fries). Highly recommend getting the pate if you order charcuterie! We also got fried pickles and the bar trio which were great if you're not super hungry and looking for more of a snack. The table next to us ordered the cacio e pepe cauliflower and it looked so good, I had major food envy seeing theirs. Dinner - I had the lobster roll which was really light and fresh but still quite a lot of food so I had enough to let the other folks at our table try too. The elote burger and the beef tongue pastrami were the highlights of the dinner orders for our group! Dessert - get the caviar ice cream! It sounds a bit odd but it is SO good. I am going against the flow here with all the other great reviews for Dexter's but I would not return. The food was ok. I was there with a party of four and we shared a dozen oysters which were good (I love oysters). I had the fried chicken burger which I shared with my wife, it was ok. Better than Mac Donald's but given the price it should be. The tallow fries for $4 extra really were no better than Mac D's. I did not like the ambience at all. Inside was very noisy so we had to sit outside to be able to talk to one another. It was hot and we faced the setting sun which was blinding. I finally asked to be moved and they were very accommodating but even though it was clear we were suffering I had to take the initiative and ask to be moved. The bill was over $100 for a fried chicken sandwich which my wife and I split and six oysters plus two mock tails which were very good. Service was okay. I found my experience dining at Dexter's unpleasant and I won't be back. read more

So thankful to find a restaurant that takes patio reservations. MN was having summer weather in the spring and had to have a girls night to celebrate. Ambiance was great huge patio, great simple decor. Cheese curds are phenomenal the batter they use was above par other restaurants in the Twin Cities. I forgot to take pictures of my cocktails. I started with their what they advertise the best espresso martini ever. It had a peppermint taste that overpowered It was not my favorite. 2/5. Enjoyed a glass of rosé wine but was charged at the end of the night for a more expensive glass and after having the server correct our checks A several times I just determined it wasn't worth battle. I will say with service it was nice the waiters were floating but what happened is that we kept getting mix ups at our table of what they would originally try to deliver that was not ours seems communication was off. Now the burgers were great my elote was missing jalapeños so I can't speak to spice but the corn paired perfectly. 4/5 We are one girl who tried the sea boots sandwich and said it was exceptional dessert the strawberry shortcake was also great. 4/5 will def come back again read more

After tasting an onion ring, I asked the waiter about the seasoning. He checked with the chef and let us know the onion rings are fried in the same oil as the chicken wings, which include cinnamon--helpful information to have. I have been coming here since they opened and have loved it since a few months ago. They changed their beer menu and their drink menu. I went tonight and tried to order a mescal drink that was on the menu since they opened and that said they could not. They were out of the beer I ordered which is on the tap menu. I ordered food to go and waited for 30+ which isn't the worst but I saw a to go order come out but assumed it wasn't mine. I waited another 15 and asked about my order and the waitress went to check and it turned out that was my order sitting now for 15 minutes. Ordered a margarita and it was full to the brim with ice and about 3 sips at $16. I won't be going back. read more

What an amazing place! The vibe was very welcoming with a fun energy in the atmosphere. Service was spot on and the food tasted delicious. I had the fried chicken sandwich which was bomb. It had basil mayo as a condiment which I had never heard of but is now my favorite! I placed a reservation for 2 and arrived early to get checked in. We were seated pretty quickly but got placed in the back closest to the kitchen and right in front of the server station. We were given water after 15 mins went by without being acknowledged by our sever, although, she continuously looked at us and quickly turned each time we made eye contact. Another 25+ minutes passed and the same server went to the surrounding tables next to us to check in on them, take their order etc. I then walked back to the hostess stand at the front of the restaurant to ask if we had been mistakenly not assigned to a server after letting her know that we hadn't been checked on the entire time we've been seated. The hostess was extremely apologetic and went back to speak with the assigned server, but the moment she saw me walking with the host, she ran over to the table and started speaking with my sister. She did not apologize, introduce herself or even acknowledge that she was awkwardly and sheepishly looking at us, over her shoulder, and blatantly ignoring us for nearly 45 mins. The restaurant was not even halfway occupied and we weren't even dining during peak hours.... I wanted to leave but my sister was hungry because we waited there for so long, we decided to give them another shot. The vodka rigatoni came out cold and bland. Overall, it was an extremely disappointing experience and the lack of hospitality from our server was micro aggressive. I will never waste my money here ever again. We only visited Dexter's because of their connection to Porzana, but they don't compare AT ALL. Ambiance was cute though! read more

Del Prado hasn't launched anything interesting since Martina and Rosalia. Yet he keeps opening up fussy, overpriced, cookie cutter restaurants. If people are willing to pay $25 for an over-designed burger that honestly doesn't even have good presentation then this the place for you. Overall, not impressed I hope that Edina rejects this restaurant simply out of principle, otherwise we'll just keep getting sub-par restaurants. read more

The restaurant is described as an upscale sports bar but really it's a good restaurant with TV's. They have a great outdoor patio and roomy indoor seating. The acoustics aren't great and it can get really loud. We shared the trout roe and potato waffles. That is a must order item. It was so good. I would love to see it as a wedding appetizer! I had a glass of the Rose and it was perfect. My friend had the seafood roll. Warning she said it was very spicy with too many peppers. She liked it and she likes spicy but said it was a lot. I had the lamb burger which is my go to when it's on the menu. It was very very good. I wish fries were with it but you need to order those separately. They looked great! We shared the coconut cake. My one bite turned into sharing half the cake. It was one of the best and served cold just like I like it! I wish they opened a second location in the Mill District. It's what we need!
