I went in to get my bermuda jean shorts hemmed up 2 inches. I brought them in knowing I had a torn out belt loop that I didn't mind as it was and not only did he hem the shorts beautifully (matching the yellow stitching), he patched the belt loop. I have a fleece jacket from my college days (10+ years ago), but the pockets and inner lining were made from a cheap material, and the pockets formed holes in them. I brought the jacket in hoping to get the pockets replaced, he said that it would be tough since they were part of that inner lining. A month later, I came back to see the work he had done, and he went above and beyond by not only replacing the pockets, but replacing/repairing the inner lining to make it seamless. The pockets are much more sturdy and the jacket is as good as new. He originally quoted $100 for the work, but he did such a good job I threw in an extra $60, and now I can wear my favorite jacket in cold weather again. We recently moved into the neighborhood and were excited to see there was a dry-cleaner within walking distance of our new condo. But walking distance is all this place has going for it. Overview: I have been to this cleaners 2 different times and on each occasion they lost a shirt of mine. In addition, this past time, the lady working there repeatedly told me I was wrong and that she "didn't care" what the receipt said or if I get my shirts back. The details: The first time I dropped off 9 collared shirts on a Monday morning and was told they wouldn't be ready until Friday afternoon. I found it odd that it was going to take that long for what I was asking, but she told me if I wanted it done right, that's how long it would take. Fine. When I went Friday afternoon, one of the shirts still had visible stains on the collar. I was told I needed to wait until Monday, because again, if I wanted it done right, I had to wait. OK, fine. Besides one of the shirts not being clean, I was missing a shirt. I didn't argue because I didn't have the receipt and wanted to double check at home because maybe I was wrong. Sure enough, there were an extra set of stays. Looks like we lost a shirt, we weren't happy, but we could deal with it. I didn't have time to look up a new cleaner and my husband needed his shirts cleaned ASAP so we decided to give this place one more try. WHAT A MISTAKE! We dropped off 9 shirts again on a Saturday. I counted, my husband counted, and the gentleman behind the counter counted (TWICE) and all agreed there were 9 shirts. We held onto the receipt that said we dropped off 9 shirts (which I realized today having a receipt at this place means absolutely nothing). When I picked up the shirts today, there were only 8 shirts! Ok, this is not good, but I would think the owner would take the approach of let's work together to find the shirt or come up with a solution. WRONG! Instead I was told that I only dropped off 8 shirts. Which of course I proceeded to tell her, no, we dropped off 9, your husband counted them twice. She said, well, he counted them again when you left and there were only 8. When again I said this is incorrect, she picked up the phone called her husband and had him tell me over the phone that he counted them again and there were only 8. I asked how did you count 9 twice in front of us, but then when we left you counted 8. Again, I was told I was wrong. When I hung up the phone with her husband, the lady told me that she can tell I'm angry, but I'm wrong, I did not lose any clothing with them. When I decided to leave because clearly I was getting the raw end of the deal here and was sick of being told I was wrong, I asked for my receipt (saying I had 9 shirts) back. She acted like she couldn't find it. When she miraculously did, she said to me, and I quote, "Sure, go ahead and tell all the people in the neighborhood, I don't care, I don't care." Are you kidding me?! YOU DON'T CARE? I have never had such poor customer service in all of my life. I still can't believe a cleaners can lose 2 shirts on two separate occasions and then have the gull to tell me I'm wrong and they don't care. Since Yelp tends to be spot on as it relates to services reviews I said I would give Devrim Cleaners a try since it rated highly. Best decision ever. The guy who runs the place is named Figo. Why is that important? Well, I've never had the person doing my dry cleaning introduce himself, shake my hand after paying, then ask me if I wanted a chai tea on my way out the door. Is any of that groundbreaking customer service - probably not. But it's the little things that count; and because of this guy's pleasant demeanor, location and exceptional quality of service...I'll be going back every chance I get. By the way - Figo's services don't run cheap. I'm used to paying $1.50 - $3 for a shirt; and he's a tad more expensive than that. And you know what - I don't care b/c the place is legit. He also accepts credit cards which I like immensely. read more

Pretty sure I got scammed. All I needed was my hem lifted a little and he tightened the straps of my bridesmaids dress. The dress still hit the floor (straps were good so I'll give him that.) It cost me 165 dollars. How does that make sense? My dress cost almost that much. He also kept complimented my appearance which made me uncomfortable and seemed like it was to soften the blow of a very expensive tailor job. This business does not even deserve the one star. Dishonest and shady owners. I generally give everyone the benefit of a doubt, and I really do not like to leave any negative reviews. I always support local businesses, and give second chances even after some disappointing experiences. However, I want to warn others about this place of business and its shady practices. We have been going to this cleaners for many years, ever since we moved into the neighborhood. They mostly did a decent job, however, what occurred recently is completely unacceptable. My husband dropped off a couple of items, including a beautiful elegant sweater tunic that I had worn only a handful of times. This tunic was black and was decorated with numerous silver color metal circles around the neck line. Please see the picture attached of the sweater. A couple of days after drop off, my husband picked up the items without incident and was not made aware of any issues at the time of pick up. The items stayed in the dry cleaner package at our house for a couple of days as I was planning to wear the sweater the following weekend. When I opened the dry cleaner package, I was in for a huge surprise. Each and every decorative metal circle was missing from the whole length of the neckline. And even worse, the imprint of each of the metal circles was fully visible all along the neckline. Pictures are attached of the sweater showing the decorations. Pictures are also attached showing the sweater without the silver decorations after it was picked up from this dry cleaners. When I called this business, I talked to the owner's wife, who was denying to know anything about the situation. A day later, the owner Figo called me and asked what the issue was. I described the situation, and he was right away extremely defensive and his attitude escalated. He asked me to send him a picture of the sweater via text message. As I was asking for the cell phone number, he said a couple of horribly unpleasant words to me and then HUNG UP ON ME. It is obvious that the metal decorations from my sweater had fallen off during the dry cleaning process, and that it was an oversight on the business's end. Now, I would have been completely okay if he had just worked with me thru the situation or offered to help in some way. I understand that we are all human and make mistakes. I would have possibly continued using this business for our dry cleaning purposes. However, first my beautiful sweater was damaged while it was in the possession of this business. And second, even worse, the owner had the audacity to call me and treat me so rudely and so miserably and with such horrible attitude and anger. I have never had such poor customer service and have never felt so insulted in all of my life. Do yourself a favor and go to another cleaner. This individual and this business have absolutely no sense of customer service, customer loyalty, and no sense of decency. I will give my business to one of the many hard working, more honest, dry cleaning business in the neighborhood. Main Point: They do not repair shoes, at ALL. Their shoe repair sign might as well be fraud. They think that shoe repair is super glue and a permanent marker--and those things aint cheap according to them. I wish I could give this place a zero star, or a NEGATIVE star as there is no one more obnoxious or rude than Figo and his service. Firstly, I agree with Jack and others that the place makes up prices as they go. I've been bringing in small things for about a year and about a month ago I brought in a large order. I brought in several dresses, sweaters and some shoes to be repaired. They said the shoes would take two weeks. They ended up taking over a month because of some mysterious mix up, which ended up just being that they couldn't find my shoes. They told me the bill was $129.00. And I figured, for $90 of shoe repair--that things would be sparkly, beautiful, and well, repaired. I should add that I get my shoes fixed a lot in the city. Here, I asked for two heels to be replaced and for the front of a shoe to be repaired IF possible, along with some minor stitching. They instead, cleaned and shined my boots (which apparently here, is the MOST expensive in the CITY if not all of america, come on, $90 total), replaced one heel and forgot to do the other, decided that super glue to fix the front heel was professional work, and TOOK A PERMANENT MARKER AND COLORED IN THE FRONT OF MY SHOE. All for the bargain price of $90. When I saw the work on my shoes I was mortified.I asked if I had been charged for 2 heels since my receipt said 2 heels (the only thing that made sense to me)--and Figo's wife didn't know.She told me that she would have the call the repair guy all the while claiming that she had no idea or was not responsible for the shoe repairs because she doesn't do them--when I reminded her that I was paying her, she didn't say anything. Hours later, she calls me and informs me that I was not charged for the heels and that I would need to come back to pay for my shoes that day. When I ask her what then was I charged for she, SURPRISE once again, wasn't sure. I told her that there was no way I could come back, but that was it incredibly unprofessional and rude to call a customer after they had left but had come to pay, to return to pay... and asked for an itemized bill, so that I could see what it was that I needed to pay for. Fast forward more boring and random rude over the phone encounters with Figo--when I did get to the store, Figo continuously changed his story but then proceed to call me a liar in front of his waiting customers. First it was that the repair people didn't do a good job, then he was the guy who fixed my shoes, then it was them and he had nothing to do with it....then him again...when I pointed out I just would like to see an itemized bill so that I can pay for the work that was done, he told me that there was no such thing. Which come on, that is the most absurd thing that a small business owner or anyone professional could say. Who can't come up with a price chart? Well, you can't if your numbers are imaginary. APPARENTLY the pizza that one buys at the frozen section at a store is the same that one buys in a restaurant--according to Figo and why he/someone else/he decided to color in my shoe with a permanent marker instead of just leaving them alone or actually fixing them. He then proceeded to compare leather to human skin and growth--the difference being that we can buy strips of leather, and they can be used to recover spots (much like repairing jeans or clothes one would hope)--this is a pretty specialized skill, one that I would gladly pay someone else to do for me, a skill that Figo/the repair guy obviously does not have--so don't ever ever take your shoes to him/mystery person. Figo, then, like an immature high school boy talking to a five year old, tried to bully me by using his age as some kind of proof that his logic was superior to mine. Which only made him seem all the more pathetic. He yelled at me for being narrow minded, and told me that he had the right to be rude to me and not listen to what i had to say and then before I could even say it, told me to never, ever come back--which is just nuts to say--why would I come back after this? Then he called me a liar and shouted that he, "was a legend," as I walked out (after paying a random number amount for the dry cleaning, after NEVER having seen an itemized bill--I told him several times that I was willing to pay for the heel that was actually replaced but he apparently, would rather keep price secrets to himself and not be paid than tell a customer what anything costs). I'm a legend? Is this guy slowly going crazy? Figo = 50 cent? P. Diddy? I do consider him to be a legend yes, a legendary douche bag and immature con. Ever been violated so badly, you just want to tell the world about it? This is how I felt after spending over $70 for 5 clean shirts, 3 clean pants, and two minor repairs (a hole in pocket and another torn pocket situation). I dropped off my clothes on Monday, August 19th, and got five shirts back on Friday, August 23rd. "Where are my pants?"... "Oh - they'll take another day, no problem". I paid my $30 for five clean shirts and returned home sheepishly. Saturday, August 24th, "Surely", I said to my family, "Surely they would be done repairing my trousers by now!" To my surprise, I arrived to only two pants, instead of all three! "Where is the third?" I inquired. "Oh, not done, no problem... wait until Wednesday (August 28th)? Why, that's absurd, I dropped them off last Monday!! Nine days for a pocket repair?" I agreed that I would pick them up on Monday. I reluctantly pulled out my wallet, expecting to pay another $15-$20, and was completely befuddled - "FORTY FOUR DOLLARS?" I gasped. Now - I was becoming furious. But that was just the start. This is the best dry cleaner in Chicago! Figo is an alteration master! He and his wife are so friendly. It is nice to walk into a shop and be greeted by its friendly shop keepers! Conveniently located just steps away from the Rockwell Station Brown Line you can drop off your shirts on the way to work on Monday and pick them up after work on Thursday... nice and easy! My husband brings at least 7 shirts to Devrim every week to dry clean and they always come back exactly the way we want them. I always have my alterations done by Figo and he does a fantastic job! Figo added a French bustle to my wedding dress and pressed it. I was so happy with the finished product. I recently had the sleeves on my coat shortened and he kept the original cuff... you can't even tell that it was altered. The only downside is that Figo works between this shop and his original location on Southport so you have to either make it to the shop before 8am or after 6pm. If not you can always track him down at his other location and pick up you finished product on Rockwell. We have been loyal customers to DeVrim since it opened its second shop on N. Rockwell) several times, I finally stopped in to check out the place. I was greeted by Figo who went out of his way to welcome me and explain the Devrim philosophy. I've now taken multiple items for laundry and dry cleaning, as well as clothing requiring alterations -- I can say that no other dry cleaners comes close to Devrim Cleaners. The quality is consistently top-notch, customer service superb and pricing is highly competitive. I'm always nervous to take my clothes to a dry cleaner: I fear they judge me based on the fact that I am beyond lazy and I wait til my clothes are in a heap in my closet for 6 weeks before I take them...but that's beside the point! I've lived in Lincoln Square for about two months now, and finally broke down to visit the dry cleaners. Let's face it, I was prepared to come here even if they shamed me cuz it's too convenient for a lazy gal like myself to NOT use! I walked in, not really caffeinated, to a beaming Figo, who says to me "Finally, a beautiful person in my store" which of course, is lovely to hear (even if he was full of it!) He took the time to wade through my smushed up clothes, passed no judgment (hooray!), and I was on my way. They always return my suits/shirts/coats in perfect condition and they get it done on time. The prices are pretty good too. I've come across plenty of horror stories to convince me to stay where I know they won't poke holes or bleach stains into the fabric. This is absolutely my go-to dry cleaners. I moved into the Lincoln Square area about a year ago, and from day one have been using them. Figo is SO nice, and learned my name immediately! I love the way my clothes come back. I recently thought that I had ruined one of my favorite dresses, and it came back SPOTLESS. I was SO happy about how it looked "post-devrim". I realize that perhaps dry cleaning here is a little pricey, but knowing that my clothes are coming back perfectly, and with a smile keeps me coming here. I'm so happy about this location! I went to the DeVrim on Southport more than two years ago and Figo did a fantastic job. I told him what I wanted done, and he kindly told me I was wrong; there was a better way to do the job. Of course he was right, and the dress turned out great. I've since moved north and joined another wedding party, so I need a new tailor. I called two nearby shops and both were curt, difficult to understand on the phone and had inconvenient hours. None of that at DeVrim! Found out about the Rockwell location; I just returned from the shop and my mind is at ease. This one will be a difficult job but I have full faith in Figo! DeVrim isn't particularly cheap, but they do a really expert job. I can only speak for dresses, but it will fit like it was made for you. And if I'm standing up in front of a couple hundred people, I want to look good! Other perks: Tootsie Rolls for the local kids, biscuits for the local dogs, and compliments for the local ladies. read more

I really, really want to like Figo and his family, but like many other reviewers, I am completely turned off by the fact that I have no clue what my bill will be when I go in to pick up my dry cleaning. My first trip in, I brought 5 dresses (nothing fancy like bm dresses...just typical cotton Gap-like dresses) to be shortened. My bill was just over $100. Ok fine...a bit pricey to bring up a couple hemlines, but great work. My next trip in was to have a tiny tear in my boyfriend's slacks stitched and to have 2 dresses dry cleaned. The bill...$30. If money is no object, and you're one of those people that freaks out about handing your clothes off to strangers, rest assured Figo will certainly take care of you. Best dry cleaners in the city! My wife and I used this place for several years when we lived in Lincoln Sq. Figo is awesome and very thorough. He would repair ripped elbows in my dress shirts some times FOC. Wife used him for alterations a few times and was happy with them. Yes some times your clothes can take up to a week, a good dry cleaners will normally be this way. If next day service is a priority there are a ton of oriental style places you can go to in the city. I have learned to only use these as a last case scenario as I notice they don't really clean anything but just press all your clothes. It's the same way where we live now, there are several next day type places, and there is one family run place that takes a good week. It's typically not because it takes him a week to do your dry cleaning, but because the entire city/town/neighborhood goes to them. Reading some of the reviews I just think 'oh it takes a week, that's ashamed considering you were his only customer', considering you go to the most popular place around. read more

I brought in a shirt with a missing button on one sleeve & when I picked it up he had not charged me to fix it (he changed the buttons on both sleeves so they'd match) AND had fixed a hem on my pants that I hadn't even noticed had come partly undone, also for no charge. To me, one of the hallmarks of a great business is when they help you to spend your money wisely, including turning away business when it's not your best option. Figo is unfailingly kind, gives great service, and makes you feel like family when you walk in the door. For me, Figo has expertly restored a leather overcoat (looks like new), repaired and re-sized suits, re-stiching a leather backpack, and done alterions on all my suits (I'm hard to fit; broad shoulders, no chest, long leg/short trunk). My wife has made her own clothes before, and she knows quality tailoring. Very simply, we would not consider going anywhere else. read more

Figo is amazing! My wife, who has made her own clothes and knows quality tailoring, swears by him. Speaking for me personally, Fido has refurbished leather coats and jackets that have been badly abused by winter business travel and laptop bags. The results were fantastic, they looked brand new. Figo has tailored Armani suits, made repairs to my cat-scratched casual clothes (I favor Ex Officio pants, the fabrics are challenging), and treats a $2,000.00 suit or a $25 sweater with the same exacting care and attention. I can't tell you the number of times he has made small (but detailed, painstaking) repairs for us and others(buttons, ties, etc.) spur of the moment, no charge. If you want a quote, Figo is glad to provide one (I've personally seen him do this dozens of times, and he'll take the time to explain to you in detail the whys and wherefores). He'll also advise you when you should save your money on repairs/cleaning that won't get the result you hope (wish) for. And, on the (infrequent) occasion where a hem or other work didn't hold? Not only have I witnessed Figo gladly agree to re-do the work, but often I have found that his inspection of clothes before giving them back saves the customer an extra trip for a re-do (fyi, it's VERY rare that Figo's own work that needs re-doing). Figo is also generous with his time, his humor, and wonderful Turkish coffee. You need turnaround on dry cleaning in one day? No problem (I try not to abuse the privilege). Devrim's basic dry cleaning prices are a bit higher than others. So be it. If you want the low cost provider, please go elsewhere...those who appreciate personalized service, quality work, and a friendly, outgoing owner who genuinely cares about his customers and goes the extra mile will gladly pay a premium. I came to this place based on the great yelp reviews. When I walked in, there was no owner in sight. After waiting about 5 minutes for someone to appear, a disheveled grey long haired man came from the back room completely unaware he had a customer waiting. The first thing he said was "have you ever been here before?" and when I replied no, he immediately asked "well then, why are you here?". What kind of service is that? He had a bad attitude the minute I walked in and overall was not helpful. I had brought in a white dress shirt that had a small nickel sized wine stain on the sleeve and he said it would take over a week to clean! On top of that, the price for one shirt was not reasonable (as some reviews have also experienced below). I always feel bad having to leave a poor review but I feel that people should know what happened to us. We took a bunch of our clothes here after a flood in our garden apartment. And after we supposedly got all of our garments back, I noticed that I was missing my very expensive black dress. We checked his list (which was handwritten scribble on a scrap piece of cardboard) and saw that he had written down the dress and charged us for it, however I didn't have it. We called several times and he kept insisting that he gave it back. Figo is my new best friend, and it's not just because he told me I was beautiful. My secret shame is my fear of dry cleaning. Like Amanda C, I am terrible about getting my dry cleaning in. I dread going in for fear of being judged, and in the meantime my sweaters and jackets become more and more beat up and soiled. This time I went in with 2 blazers and 3 sweaters. All were dirty, the jackets were borderline disgusting, and one of the sweaters needed a slight repair. All came back spotless and in better condition than I could have imagined. The repair on the sweater was seamless. The price for the lot was less than $30. I'll be going back tomorrow with a few more coats. They also do shoe repairs and alterations... Figo is amazing! I just took a bridesmaid dress to Devrim after having a disappointing experience elsewhere. The dress was in an unwearable state and I was super short on time. I'm not sure how he did it but he somehow reworked the entire bodice and it fits like a glove. I will never go anywhere else for alterations. Thank you Figo! read more

I would like to say that I'm happier with my experience at Devrim, but the cost of my alterations ruined it for me. I was referred to Figo by Nuri at Nuri's Custom Tailor on Lincoln because Nuri fell ill. I've gotten 3 dresses altered at Nuri's (two bridesmaid, one rehearsal dinner), never for more than $30. I took a very simple, short, one-layer dress to Figo to be taken in, and it cost me $55. Granted, he did a good job, and the dress fits well, but I cannot justify that price. Figo also altered a pair of pants and a jacket for my boyfriend, again did a solid job, but those costs + reattaching the buttons to a pea coat ended up costing $95. Figo is charming and a generally pleasant guy to work with, but overall-- Solid job, but overpriced. read more

I bought a Tokidoki sweatshirt tunic that was absolutely cute, except for the elastic band at the bottom, that cups and hugs the rear end. I live on the 3rd floor, so between a lot of stair climbing and walking, my gluts are well exercised and my bum is fine enough without drawing more attention to it. The sweatshirt and I went to Devrim and Figo modified the bottom hem and it looks and fits great. He made sure it stretched (it is a sweatshirt) appropriately and now it looks like a long tunic top. It was well worth the train ride to get there! read more

Love this place. Love Figo, love his wife, love that my clothes nearly always come back perfectly clean and love that they don't bullshit me; when I brought in a yellow coat that had been stained with red wine and sat in my closet for a week afterward (don't ask) they didn't pretend it was going to be easy, just said they'd do their best. More importantly, they didn't judge me for what was obviously a drunken mishap. Special occasion tailoring is amazing as well; Figo has altered two bridesmaids dresses for me and you can't beat the quality or the price. Devrim's not cheap, but if you're paying good money for your clothes and want them to be taken care of you'll get your money's worth. read more

Well... Figo is a really nice guy- so he makes it hard for me to say this, but.... I'm not too impressed with this place (besides Figo's kindness). Had my pants hemmed there, and the hem dropped the first time I wore them out. Our clothes come back a half size smaller on occasion, and sometimes not necessarily clean. For a dry cleaner, they are pricey- so although Figo is great- clothing is why I go to dry cleaners, so I'm going to look for something else. read more
