I decided to give Davis Imperial Cleaners a try as I was looking for special care for some of my more high-end clothing items. Overall, I had a great experience. The location is super cool, the people are beyond nice, and the end result was excellent. Yes, it is quite pricey, but you get what you pay for. No safety pins pierced through my delicate fabrics, and service exceeded my expectations. Example: for several blouses that have fancy buttons, they removed them prior to cleaning and then reattached them, at no additional cost. Now that's fancy! They also offer a pickup and delivery service at a very reasonable price, which I didn't try the first time but may in the future. The only minor issue I had was related to when my order was ready for pick-up. I was told three days, and that's what it said on my receipt. I was also told I'd receive a text message when everything was ready. No text came that day, and late that evening I received a confusing email from them that said something about two of the 10 items I dropped off being completed. I called the following day to inquire and was told the entire order wasn't ready yet. It wasn't until the end of the following day that I received a text saying everything was done. It wasn't a big deal, as I didn't need my items back right away, but the email was confusing and if something is supposed to be ready in three days, it should be, or you should receive a clear communication with an update. One more thing: every single item I picked up was individually wrapped. That is to be expected I guess, as this is a very high-end business, but I had 10 items and was given 10 plastic bags which just seemed wasteful. Next time I go back I will ask if they can reduce the packaging. Overall, I was pleased with the service I received and will definitely be a repeat customer. read more

Bought a one of a kind vintage Roberto Cavalli set that I had worn once and had personally tailored. Bc of how delicate the item was, I went out of my way to find a cleaner that specializes in high-end garments, which is how I found this place. I should have used my neighborhood dry cleaners. After a significant amount of time passed, I called to check on the status of the cleaning. Following a review of camera footage, I was informed that my item was mistakenly believed to be recycling and was disposed of. Mistakes happen and they are just materialistic items, but I was especially disappointed given I was required to upload photos of my items prior to cleaning and those images were no longer visible. I truly appreciate I was reimbursed and my other item discounted. However, the piece itself was irreplaceable. The person I spoke to was nice but not really apologetic over what happened and didn't seem that shocked by it, which is why I wouldn't return. You'd think if a dry cleaners threw out an item mistakenly they would be extremely concerned? I wanted to share this feedback for others with rare or high-value items. We had a Canada Goose jacket we wanted cleaned and didn't want it wrecked in the process. Canada Goose in downtown Chicago recommended two cleaners ... Davis Imperial being one of them. We drove out from the southside to give it a try. We brought the jacket in and were somewhat surprised by the price ($88) but very pleased with the result. Cleaned and ready about three days later, we didn't get it back in a cheap slip of see-thru plastic but a nice carryall for the season. Best dry cleaner I ever used! I had accidentally caught my Moncler coat on something and the down was leaking out. I went to Moncler for repair but they no longer have the fabric...it's a basic black coat so was a little miffed at Moncler. Anyway, I called Davis as our building manager recommended them and they looked at the coat, advised they could match the fabric and repair my coat. I'll use them forever! read more

For a VERY expensive place, I expected better quality. Everything was returned with a smell like an old storage facility. The ends of the hangars were so sharp that I scratched my finger. Getting my wedding dress altered at Davis Imperial Cleaners was one of the best decisions I made about our wedding. I do not live in the Chicagoland area, but was getting married there. I live about 3 hours away. I purchased my dress in Atlanta. I reached out to a Chicago salon that sells my dress's designer to ask about their recommendations for alterations. My dress had A LOT of beading so I was very particular about who would take care of it. They directed me to Davis Imperial Cleaners as that is where they send their brides. Iana was absolutely wonderful and I quickly found myself looking forward to traveling to Chicago for my 3 fittings. She made the process so easy by clearly explaining what was needed, giving suggestions and advice, and generally was just fun to be around! I was actually sad picking up my dress because I realized my fittings really had come to an end. She created a pretty intricate bustle (ballroom style) that had 17 ribbons to tie and 4 buttons. She clearly numbered everything and made us take a video of her clearly explaining how to bustle my dress before the reception. That was a life saver as it took 3 friends and watching her video (again) to pull me together. The dress fit GREAT and the bustle stayed up! I really cannot recommend Davis enough for alterations, and I especially cannot recommend Iana enough for anything and everything! From my initial consultation, Iana showed me so much patience and care. Moving forward, each fitting was better then the next. After buying a sample of my dream dress (which was about 8 sizes too big and 5 feet too long!) I was amazed at what Iana did in order to assure that it would fit me perfectly. Even in the last month she fit me in for additional fittings just make sure that I was absolutely satisfied with the end product. AMAZING!!!!!! From the beginning to end this is by far is the absolutely best cleaners. My off-white ski coat was filthy with dirty cuffs, black ink marks, and some unknown glue-like stain (maybe from a ski pass sticker) and I got it back good as new. The booking process was so smooth, and they kept me informed of when the driver would arrive and he was always prompt and professional. I cannot rave more about Davis Imperial, it is an impeccable service that I wish other companies would learn from. Some might think it's a bit pricey but I think it's understandable because their service is phenomenal. It was worth every penny and I probably would have paid more than they charged me anyway. If you'd like your delicate items to be destroyed, come to Davis Imperial. I'm writing this review because I've heard these horror stories about Davis, but when my sister's brand new Moncler coat got destroyed by them, I couldn't help but warn the public. Her brand new coat had a small little stain on the sleeve, which she asked to "SPOT CLEAN" And NOT dry clean, but they ended up dry cleaning the entire coat, i'm assuming, which left crusty chemical spots ALL over it-and a HUGE snag going down the entire sleeve to boot! (see picture). She spoke with someone named Cynthia who promised to "replace the coat if need be," but wanted a chance to fix it. Well, they didn't. Snag is still there and Davis claims they won't replace it because, get this, "you cannot see the snag from 3 feet away." This is how you do business, Davis? We used to recommend you guys to all of our brides, and everyone we know in general, but never again. read more

Ok, first thing to be sure you know: they are not cheap. But, you pay for what you get. Their work is amazing. I brought in a white and grey duvet cover that was not white in some of the parts that were originally so anymore. I had tried to wash it twice (using various and sundry internet tricks), taken it to another dry cleaners who tried twice, and, finally, went to them. I took my wedding dress to Davis Imperial for alterations. David Imperial took the time to understand what I wanted done to my dress and guided me on all of the decisions. What I liked about Davis is they didn't just look for what I wanted, they came to the table with recommendations and expertise. The work was perfection, they had to rebuild the top straps of my dress and added buttons all the way down the back. On top of that they helped me decide the best bustle for my dress. I'm writing about my recent experience at the Evanston, IL location (1920 Harrison Street). I searched for a reliable suede cleaner for my beautiful, grey suede jacket by John Varvatos. Upon entering the store and handing over my item, I was met with a cashier who asked, "If I had an account" and, if "I'd like to know their prices for that service?" I guess "may I help you?" wasn't her concern. In addition to being pompous, that 'greeting' signaled that I'd be hearing an exorbitant cost however, I didn't flinch at the $185 minimum (no explanation as to what could cause a price increase), and the 4 to 7 week wait. After pondering the experience, price, wait-time, I decided to take my business elsewhere. That happened to be Best Care Cleaners on Chicago Avenue in Evanston. They get 4-star reviews on here as well. However, at 1/3 the price, a 5 to 7 day wait-time, and grateful and respectful customer service, I'm already pleased with my decision. read more

The worst experience with cleaning services in my life! First of all, pay attention at $$$ under the name of their business. Three dollar signs are there for a reason. But they charge you an arm and a leg for simple cleaning. Second of all, get all the price quote in writing, otherwise you will be charged "whatever". They promise one price but the invoice is four times higher. But since you gave them your credit card ahead of time they won't be shy to charge it more than you discussed. Third, the cleaning time is five times longer than they promise. Be ready to spend some time on the phone calling them at least 4 times looking for your item. Overall, I do not recommend it unless you don't care and have endless bank account. read more

Long overdue review. I hate to leave a bad review, but they serve as a warning to others who may be looking at cleaning very pricey coats. Between my boyfriend and me, we needed four coats cleaned: two Canada Goose parkas for me, one Arc'teryx parka for him and one really pricey Moncler coat for him. He'd worn the Moncler fewer than 20x max as it was always a bit large to wear in the car, but bird in the hand, since I was already sending out three coats to be cleaned and it had been in the closet all year gathering dust, he sent that one in as well. And now I feel guilty, because I'm the one that found out about Davis. I will say my longest Canada Goose came back perfect. I'd been warned about potential shine on some of the matte areas (yikes), but nothing like that happened. However, my everyday Canada Goose's zipper flap was permanently deformed. I don't know if it was cleaned or dried in the open position, but it literally will not lie flat anymore, even if you steam it. The fabric on the outside is somehow now shorter than the fabric on the inside (shrank?), so it naturally curls open. Quite annoying on a $1200 coat purchased in December 2018. The Arc'teryx came back fine as well, however, the Moncler is a mess. There were snags on the fabric that weren't there before, and the rope-like waist adjusters at the bottom were very visibly snagged. A $3500 coat. He now doesn't want to wear it, so we'll be listing that one for sale on Poshmark or TheRealReal sometime. Yikes, man. This is why we didn't send these to just any ol' cleaner, but Davis came highly recommended on here. Maybe for a $90 Brooks Brothers shirt, but dayum. Pickup and dropoff were strangely disorganized as well. I waited around, but they missed the first pickup window entirely, and when I called to inquire, they gave me another window. I never got an estimate as promised before the cleaning was done. I called to check on the coats once I figured they'd gotten them in, see if they had inspected them and had a price for me, was brusquely told they'd already been cleaned, so the price was what it was. Whatever, the prices were fine had the work been fine as well, but you just read how that went. They didn't notify me on dropoff, but rather left them at the front desk. OK, that would be fine if our front desk were always populated by trusted building employees, but it's not. Can you imagine if $6K in coats just up & vanished on us? I gotta say I'd be safer washing these things in the tub with Nikwax from REI next time. read more

I recently used this cleaner for several higher end pieces. Their level of service is definitely above and beyond! Everything was handled with care and delivered back to our door. Once delivered, they did notify me immediately to make sure I would bring it in. Unfortunately, both my husband and I forgot and thought the other had brought it in. It actually sat out there for a couple days and through a couple of rain storms. When I realized, I was devastated that everything was going to be ruined but to my surprise, it was packaged so well that not a drop of water came in contact with my clothes. I came here feeling dejected after being refused service to have the sleeves of my dress altered (they were too tight). I don't know much about anything when it comes to having alterations done, but a friend's coworker recommend Davis Imperial Cleaners and I figured I would give it a shot. I wasn't disappointed. When I walked in, I showed them my dress and explained the situation. They told me they'd be able to handle it by simply cutting the dress where some of the embroidery is and inserting some elastic to expand the width of the sleeves. After I agreed, they asked me how much elastic I needed and I made my payment. A few days later I picked it up as promised and it fit great. Easy peasy. read more

They have been nothing short of lovely the entire process of getting my gown fit especially since I have had to reschedule almost all of my fittings due to my work schedule.
