The pastries and bread here are straight up indefensibly bad. Thick, crumbly, brittle, dry. Don't do your mouth dirty like this. There's so much good baking all over SF, I can only assume that Destination survives due to some combination of habit and indifference on the part of its customers. But if that's not enough: they've been shut down by the health department twice just this year alone over vermin infestation. The health department is pretty accommodating with minor violations, so when they red-tag you, TWICE, it's because you're really fucking up baaaaad. So yeah, if they reopen after this latest closure, do your taste buds and health a favor and skip. read more

This is truly a secret gem for pastry lovers: great variety, all freshly made plus delicious coffee. This is a nice stop if you are on the crosstown trail across SF. Street parking is available if you find the spot. This is a nice residential area, so better park somewhere outside the area and walk. The prices are lower than usual. You can smell the freshly baked challah from down the road! This is the spot for Glen Park/Noe Valley locals. Self serve hot coffee, no fuss. Locally run, they have empanadas, muffins, bread, croissants, and more! It's CASH ONLY!! I loved the energy and loyal local folks who come regularly. Hidden gem. The best blueberry danish I've had in a long time. Their cappuccino was also delicious. Lots of fresh pastries popping out but I would definitely arrive early to get a great selection - especially on the weekend. Very friendly service and a cozy inside along with outdoor benches. The empanadas are large with a deliciously flaky, golden brown pastry crust. One empanada with soup or salad is good enough for a meal. On my last visit, I popped in to grab an empanada for a quick meal on-the-go and it was stone cold. Like it was just brought out from the freezer so I had to go home to warm it up. Hope this was an anomaly. Overall, it's not surprising that the beef empanada is the first flavor to be sold out...which is why I'm hesitant to post this review. I've only been here two days and I love this place. Everything is fresh and items frequently sell out! Because it's Christmas, they are selling whole panettone cakes and gingerbread people. I can't buy an entire panettone cake but I got two gingerbread people for fun! I also got two empanadas which are huge and the last two veggie samosas which are also huge! Can't wait to try them! The regular customer lady behind me also wanted samosas but I apparently got the last ones! They offered to call her when they had some freshly made! Very cool! My boyfriend comes to Destination every Saturday and picks up a box of goodies, but I finally had the chance to go for myself and try it for the first time! I was so excited! The pastry items that I ordered this time around were: 1) Cinnamon Roll - Absolutely delicious! It is sweet, but that is to be expected. 2) Almond Bear Claw - The almond bear claw, chocolate croissant, and blueberry danish all are made using the same dough. It was baked well with nice layers and the almond filling was good. Could use slightly more but I enjoyed it. 3) Chocolate Croissant - The croissant was nice and flaky, good texture. I think it could use a little bit more chocolate filling though. 4) Blueberry Muffin - the blueberry muffin had so many large blueberries in it and I was surprised by that. The muffin was not too sweet either and I liked it a lot. 5) Blueberry Danish - Not too sweet and again the pastry flake/texture was good. This bakery is such a gem that does not disappoint. Chicken empanada with corn and cilantro - good size portion that I heated in the oven for about 10 minutes - crispy edge, soft inside with decent amount of filling but was a little on the bland side - perhaps a little pepper or hot sauce would have done the trick. Cute little place tucked away on Chenery street in Glen Park. Was meeting a friend and we hadn't eaten lunch so got a few savory baked goods to make up for lunch. The quiche Lorraine would have been more than enough at $5.95 but I decided to get the vegetable samosa ($4.95) and scallion and cheddar scone ($4) anyway. My friend ended up getting a samosa and the bread pudding. Our request for food to be warmed up was willingly obliged and we sat there for 2 hours and savored our pickings. There was no crowd on a Wednesday afternoon and we had a really nice time. I ended up making it through the samosa and the 1/4 of the quiche. The portions were large... Make sure you go on the right days because they are closed on Sundays and Mondays. Also go as early as possible because they usually sell out of their stuff as they get closer to closing time. My favorite thing to get here are the empanadas. They are flaky and generously sized. I switch between the beef or the chicken one but both are good. The good thing about the beef empanadas are that they have boiled eggs in them. They are also more filling because of the egg. The good thing about the chicken empanadas are that they are less filling and taste like chicken pot pie. Their bench outside is south facing and therefore super sunny. It's nice to eat your pastry on the bench, but remember to bring sunglasses or wear sunscreen to be more comfortable. read more

My wife frequently visits with our preschool son every Friday morning before school. My son enjoys the chocolate croissant. Unfortunately, my wife mistakenly brought in a brand name coffee to enjoy along with their baked goods in one quiet Friday morning. Plenty of seats were available at the time. As soon as they sat down, the owner ANGRILY approaches and tells them they aren't welcome to eat inside with the outside coffee she purchased. I understand the unspoken rule that outside/rival food shouldn't be allowed to be eaten inside any Mom/Pop shop. I also understand good customer service when situations like this arise. I've received more polite responses when forgetting water in my bag when preparing to board a plane. Treating regular customers in such a OUTRAGED manner is puzzling considering your competing with big name coffee companies. I support local shops, until they start acting PETTY and forget about good customer service. Props to their cashier, Debbie. I'm bummed to hear that a local business owner exercised their right to refuse on a local mom and her kid because she happened to be drinking a coffee purchased elsewhere, especially since she's been a regular for years and purchased several pastries to go that day and simply wanted to take a load off and let her kid have one of his favorite treats. It makes me wonder what made the business owner behave in such a beastly way to someone who grew up in the area who also makes the effort to support local businesses but happens to like coffee from another place. I'm all for supporting local shops but it almost felt like I could get similar items at a grocery store at the same price and with better packaging. Despite not being overly busy, service was slow. Called ahead to see if they had an apple pies, and they were able to put one on reserve for me until I got off work, which was very nice. Had the typical issue with pies: love the crust, hate the filling. The apples had their skin on (not sure why, but the texture was pretty weird.) Like how the crust wasn't overly glazed or sweet. Wow... a real bakery that makes great-tasting pastries, serves decent coffee, and has friendly, chatty staff. DBC is my favorite find of my COVID walks. For months I did morning five-mile strolls around my house and collected sights and smells of places I wanted to check out. I didn't go in anywhere until after my second shot. And then, ugh, several disappointments! I found "coffee shops" that made coffee that was less flavorful than what I brew at home. And the scones and pastries at these shops mostly taste like they come from the same off-premises cardboard manufacturing plant. DBC, on the other hand, has less cute charm and no parklet seating, but their very rewarding, simple baked goods. The selection is limited (at least when I go by at 7:30 am) but absolutely satisfying. I am fan of the blueberry Danish, but cinnamon rolls are excellent, too. read more

This little bakery has been appearing on all my feeds and I finally had to make my way out to try this perfect local bakery! The woman greeted me at the door with a cheery and humble smile. I ordered a small coffee with a cinnamon butter horn and its the perfect morning combination. The coffee is at a medium-dark roast, very subtle and robust in flavor and it blends perfectly with the buttery flaky pastry that reminds you of something homemade. There's a hint of cinnamon that doesn't overpower the pastry and the brown sugar crust on top gives it the perfect crunch to the light flaky bread. The icing on top is a super plus!! I told myself not to have sweets anymore... and I definitely did not cheat today! Going to surprise family with their pumpkin cheesecake for Thanksgiving :) read more

I'm always excited to try new bakeries, and had the chance to stop by Destination on a Friday afternoon. They weren't busy around 2pm, but they had already sold out of a lot of items, so you'll have to come early if you want to see the full selection. I ended up trying: -Sticky Bun ($3.75): This was a giant sticky bun, but it was on the doughier/heavier side. I think they also added cardamom or some other strong tasting spice, which I felt ruined the overall taste of the sticky bun. I probably wouldn't get this again though. -Carrot Cake ($3.50): Yum- this was my favorite item from this bakery. The cake was moist, and the cream cheese frosting was really good. Recommended! They also bake homemade fruit pies, but sadly, do not sell them by the slice! I hope that changes at some point. I would come back to try their other items if I was in the area, but would only come if it was earlier in the morning. There isn't much parking right in front of the bakery, but there are some street parking spots a short walking distance away. read more
