The ham and cheese croissant flake test in SF
Juan V.

This bakery destination is a hidden gem in San Francisco's Glen Park neighborhood. Destination Bakery has lots of bake goods like their carrot cake and cinnamon buns. Since Xmas is almost here this is the destination to grab last minute sweet and savory bake goods. I got the beef empanada which was very savory and very tasty. I also got the savory ham and cheese croissant which was delicious. I also got the Xmas tree short bread which looked sweet but was not that sweet but very yummy. It's a good bakery destination in San Francisco to discover savory and sweet bake goods. Great bakery creations with decorations for the Holiday celebration Come to taste the savory and sweet sensation at the San Francisco bakery called Destination

This is truly a secret gem for pastry lovers: great variety, all freshly made plus delicious coffee. This is a nice stop if you are on the crosstown trail across SF. Street parking is available if you find the spot. This is a nice residential area, so better park somewhere outside the area and walk. The prices are lower than usual. There is a restroom for the customers. They accept credit cards and cash. There are 2 tables inside, and a couple of outdoors benches.

You can smell the freshly baked challah from down the road! This is the spot for Glen Park/Noe Valley locals. Self serve hot coffee, no fuss. Locally run, they have empanadas, muffins, bread, croissants, and more! It's CASH ONLY!! I loved the energy and loyal local folks who come regularly. I got the cheese danish, it was creamy and had that little crunch to it. This shop has been open for over 20 years! They have indoor tables and nice outdoor bench. The owners were kind and warm. I will be back to try the challah!!

Hidden gem. The best blueberry danish I've had in a long time. Their cappuccino was also delicious. Lots of fresh pastries popping out but I would definitely arrive early to get a great selection - especially on the weekend. Very friendly service and a cozy inside along with outdoor benches. Had the pleasure of meeting Indie, who was so kind and gave my pup a treat to have outside while I enjoyed my goodies. They prefer cash but accept cards.

Empanadas (top to bottom): Chicken & Corn, Beef w/ olives, raisins, boiled egg, and Potato Samosa | $5-$6 each

We've all read it: "I'm hesitant to post a review because..." "I want to keep this place to myself..." OR "I want to keep this place a secret..." But, here you are...posting a review to let the Yelp world know! (I'm kidding btw.) Yas, I'm going to be that person today because IF you can get me to eat olives...you deserve mad props! Destination Baking Company has been around longer than Yelp which says a lot. Driven by a million times but never stepped in because I'm not a sweets person. BUT, then I saw they had savory empanadas. SOLD! Destination Baking Company has three savory empanadas available ($5-$6): https://tinyurl.com/y2j8kyc9 * Beef: Fav of the three; Argentinian-inspired with flavorful and moist ground beef, quarter boiled egg, raisins, and olives. The salty brininess of the olives are masked by the rich spices so even an olive hater like me enjoys it. * Potato Samosa: Tender potatoes with a bite. The flavor was more nuanced compared to Indian samosas but you still get the warming spices. * Chicken & Corn: Least fav; bland and uneven ratio of corn to white meat. The empanadas are large with a deliciously flaky, golden brown pastry crust. One empanada with soup or salad is good enough for a meal. On my last visit, I popped in to grab an empanada for a quick meal on-the-go and it was stone cold. Like it was just brought out from the freezer so I had to go home to warm it up. Hope this was an anomaly. Overall, it's not surprising that the beef empanada is the first flavor to be sold out...which is why I'm hesitant to post this review. But hey, gotta give Destination Baking Company props if they can make an olive hater like me craaave their beef empanadas! OTHER NOTES: * Thank you to the kind lady cashier for going outside to take my order and ringing me up since I had my dog with me. * Only two small tables for dining in (and two outdoor benches) so more of a takeout spot. * Parking can be difficult because it's a residential area. * Cc's accepted.

Cinnamon roll (without raisins)

I've been on the hunt for the best cinnamon roll (or bun?) in the city, and found it here! After passing by this spot for *decades*, I finally stopped in, and I'm so glad I did. Everything is made from scratch, and the owner/baker is a really cool dude. Other must-try goodies include the banana cream tarts, sour cream coffee cake, sticky buns--honestly, everything. Love this quaint, quiet neighborhood gem in Glen Park! Heads up- it's cash only!

I've only been here two days and I love this place. Everything is fresh and items frequently sell out! Because it's Christmas, they are selling whole panettone cakes and gingerbread people. I can't buy an entire panettone cake but I got two gingerbread people for fun! I also got two empanadas which are huge and the last two veggie samosas which are also huge! Can't wait to try them! The regular customer lady behind me also wanted samosas but I apparently got the last ones! They offered to call her when they had some freshly made! Very cool! I'm glad I got here earlier today! 11am! Life is good with a fun local bakery!!

Small and cute, only about 2 tables inside. The pastries are fresh and classic! Cash only when I visited + pastries are 2 for 1 after 2pm

Assortment of Pastries: Cinnamon Roll, Blueberry Danish, Blueberry Muffin, Almond Bear Claw, Chocolate Croissant

My boyfriend comes to Destination every Saturday and picks up a box of goodies, but I finally had the chance to go for myself and try it for the first time! I was so excited! The pastry items that I ordered this time around were: 1) Cinnamon Roll - Absolutely delicious! It is sweet, but that is to be expected. 2) Almond Bear Claw - The almond bear claw, chocolate croissant, and blueberry danish all are made using the same dough. It was baked well with nice layers and the almond filling was good. Could use slightly more but I enjoyed it. 3) Chocolate Croissant - The croissant was nice and flaky, good texture. I think it could use a little bit more chocolate filling though. 4) Blueberry Muffin - the blueberry muffin had so many large blueberries in it and I was surprised by that. The muffin was not too sweet either and I liked it a lot. 5) Blueberry Danish - Not too sweet and again the pastry flake/texture was good. This bakery is such a gem that does not disappoint. I will definitely be back for more!

Cherry danish

I really like the fact that it's a local place and they have a nice selection of sweet and savory pastries with friendly service, but after having gotten several different things, I would rate it as decent, but not something to rave about. Chicken empanada with corn and cilantro - good size portion that I heated in the oven for about 10 minutes - crispy edge, soft inside with decent amount of filling but was a little on the bland side - perhaps a little pepper or hot sauce would have done the trick. Cheddar scallion scone - decent size square but a little dense and lot of butter Sticky bun - ok but pecans would have made it a lot better Cherry danish - good filling and light on the icing but seemed on the greasy side.

Great local place. Down home in SF. One morning it was a grumpy woman and the next a friendly woman. All good. Classic.

Like everywhere else in SF, you have to pay for street parking but it's free after 6pm! The vibes inside are of a typical coffee shop and there is a good amount of tables and seats! The barista makes each drink one at a time, so it could take a while to order and get your drinks, but it just shows that they are very intentional with their drinks! I was super excited to find out that Ballast Coffee is actually a Filipino coffee shop that serves Barako Coffee, which I believe they source from the Philippines. They also sell barako bean roast blends for $20 in case you wanted to make it at home! Since they use Filipino barako beans, I had to order their Ube iced latte and Ube hot chocolate! The coffee had a slightly fruity yet chocolatey undertone that made it really delicious with the Ube! I do think that the coffee had a lighter taste to it, so it let the ube taste stand out more. My favorite was the Ube hot chocolate because it was super decadent and warming! I'll definitely be back at Ballast Coffee to study more and to also try their Ube Mocha as well as other drinks!

The empanada wasn't heated long enough and the inside was still a bit cold. There were cubes of beef inside but I didn't think it had enough seasoning. Wouldn't order the beef empanada again. It's a nice place to meet with a friend or two and have coffee and a conversation if you ca. get table seating not occupied by people with their PCs for hours.

Today I dropped our recently senior rescued dog for his first grooming for us. I came upon an "Old Friend" Java on Ocean Coffee. The café is at the corner or Ocean Avenue and Faxon across the street from the former Walgreens which means amble parking! Java On Ocean Coffee is a classic San Francisco coffee place which has much more than coffee to order. There is a selection of savory breakfast items, sandwiches and smoothie! Given it was after 3 pm I ordered a Mexican Mocha and an oatmeal cookie. The café was fairly packed with nearby Riodan High School students studying about American history "New Deal" with great enthusiasm and laughter! There are 15 tables and plenty of seating including several outside but given the May gray day I cozyed under a poster of famous Mexican artist Frieda to drink my Mexican Mocha today. I look forward to future exploring Ocean Avenue including getting a smoothie or sandwich at the café!

Each one with a side of a simple garden salad that helps lighten up your plate and a nice serving of potatoes that are your standard breakfast potatoes but done well. Crepe itself is light and crispy, each filled with a very solid amount of well thought out combination of fillings that are each cooked to perfection. Most recently I had the puttanesca, which was served with a side of sour cream. This combination of flavors with the cheese, mushrooms, and sour cream was an excellent way to start my day. I've also had the curry crepe as well which is also an interesting combination but overall delicious as well. A bit more depth of flavor with the curry. The omelets and potatoes lacked seasoning, and the toast was just plain buttered bread. Overall, it felt basic for the price.
