Everyone here is so kind and helpful - plus there's a mural to draw on! The owner is in from time to time with his daughter, otherwise it's often a team of sweet ladies (who also seem to be family) and local teens. They offer several specialty flavors, as well as traditional and choose-your-own. My go-to is maple with Nutella drizzle, but right now they're doing a Pumpkin Spice Powdered Sugar with Carmel Drizzle and pecan pieces. It's really good! First visit and it was spectacular! I had drove by this place so many times but never went in. They make the donut fresh in front of you! This is a cool experience as well. Ethan (I think that was his name) was amazing with customer service, he explained everything about the process, answered all my questions and was so helpful with everything! The first time I actually felt like i wanted to give a tip, not forced to give a tip like everywhere does now. This guy works hard and does it with a smile, I was impressed. It's been awhile since I have had a good customer service experience like this- it was refreshing. My daughter got the cereal killer donut and I got an iced Carmel machiatto- made well (it was just the perfect amount of sweet with sugar free syrup options too!). Inside is super colorful and the menu has super clear photos so you know what you are ordering. My daughter loved the wall because she got to color while we were waiting for my coffee. They let visitors color on the wall every month, then take a photo, and then wipe it off so it's fresh for the next month's customers. It was my first time at Desert Donuts so I wasn't sure what to expect. As soon as I came in, my daughter and I were greeted by the owners. They explained the menu board to us and we took a minute to decide what we wanted. Once ready, we placed our order. I noticed that they have rewarding points, so I asked the girl if i could sign up. I scanned the QR code and filled out the information. I was hoping she would give us points for that visit, but she told us the next visit she could put our phone number in and we could start earning points then. As a first time customer and an avid person for reward points, I was quite bummed. I proceeded to pay, about $10 for 2 donuts. I wasn't sure what to expect for that price. My daughter and I then walked over and watched them make our donuts. My daughter loved that there were a lot of different options for icing colors. When I saw the size of the donuts I was a bit bummed. They were quite small for the price, about the size of your palm. After we received our order, the owners were nice to chat with us and let us know about the paint and sip that they do every Saturday. That was really nice because we are always looking for something to do. They were friendly and chatted for a moment and welcomed us back. Once we got home, we tried our donuts, about a 2 minute drive, so they were still warm. Still bummed about the size, we dug in. My daughter had a pink icing and rainbow sprinkle donut and I got the Cinnamon sugar with apple and caramel. My daughter dug right in and loved it. Mine on the other hand, while delicious, I was bummed it wasn't real apple, it was canned apple pie filling. The donut was gone in 3 bites. A very small snack at best. While the taste was there, I would only consider this a snack and not a real breakfast. They did have other items on the menu, which screamed diabetes to me! Had a great experience at Desert Donuts! Ethan served us and explained the entire menu, had such a great positive personality, and checked in on us when we tried the coffee he had made. We were in the area camping at Lake Pleasant and decided to make a foray into town to get some dinner and groceries and saw this little shop. I had seen it on Yelp and at first glance I thought it was a place where you could choose your donut batter and they'd make it fresh for you. I was wrong! Upon entering our family of 5 was very enthusiastically greeted by a young girl (we later found out she was the owner's daughter), who proceeded to give us a tour of their ordering process and answered any questions I had. Turns out that all their donuts are vanilla cake donuts (I'm actually not a fan of that kind--but wait! I'm not done...) and the variety is in the variations of toppings, not in the donut batter like I'd thought. And man, they have it (almost) all! We were going to just get one for each of us, but then it turns out we were there on their Dads for Donuts day--50% all donuts with dad present. So we opted to get 2 for each person, with the intention of one now one later. Ordered 8 donuts for 4 of us, and my youngest isn't a donut fan so he ordered a single scoop of ice cream in a waffle cone. His order was made first and it was very impressive in size, so much so that he offered to share with us (and he never does that)! In the meantime, we had to wait a little while as they put together our 8 and to be honest, I wasn't having high hopes. The donuts by themselves weren't very impressive looking and assemblage looked meh. When she gave us our boxes I was pleasantly surprised to feel warm bottoms, and when we got into our car to enjoy the donuts, they looked really good. Then I bit into mine and wow... it was REALLY good!!! The donut was very soft and moist on the inside with a lightly crisp exterior. And the pleasant thing is that the donuts themselves are not overly sweet, which is a nice balance to the toppings. The rest of the family agreed that the donuts were good; some a little too sweet while others just right. Definitely would come back if we're ever up in this corner again.
