For what it is.. it's pretty decent Americanized sushi. You're going to find crowd pleaser combos of crab meat & avocado & shrimp tempura in many of their rolls. I was impressed by how quickly our entire order came out. These guys work very efficiently even on a busy weekend night we got our whole table order in less than 10 min. I wouldn't recommend ordering the superman burrito and the salmon tower together they're basically the same thing. If you have sushi noobs who enjoy this kind of mayo-y covered & baked deep fried rolls this is the place to take them. They will love it. The atmosphere is lively although a bit noisy with the staff having to yell out irishaimase every 30 seconds. There was no wait when we came but the restaurant was almost at maximum at 9pm Friday night. The service here is always very good and the sushi even better. We have been coming for two years and the experience has always been memorable. The rolls are large and delicious and are my wife and son's favorites. Visited again after couple of years, the management changes brought some goods and Bad to this place. I enjoy the bento box selections but man the sushi rolls.... the portion of the rice in the rolls are ridiculously large. So much rice they put in that ruin the presentation of the food, at the same time they fill you up so much with rice that you have no room to try anything else on the menu. This restaurant has been our favorite for years but i changed my mind today because of the service. My son (15 years old) and his friend went there for lunch. After they finished, they paid about $50 and left but one waitress was following them and asked if they have any problem with restaurant because THEY DID NOT GIVE TIP. My did was so surprise because he never thought it was an issue for not giving tip. So he and his friend gave all the changes that they had to the waitress ( it was about $4-$5) The waitress DEFINITELY EMBARRASSED my kid and his friend and he went home unhappily that upsets me. Normally my kid went out with us and we always paid for the meals and he had no idea about how we paid or if we gave tip (we always gave 20% or more). Young kids they don't just make money themselves yet so they don't know if they buy something and they HAVE TO PAY FOR TIP. For restaurants in general and Densetsu restaurant in specific, if customers went there and they want/don't want to give tip, they will be the ones who decide it. TIP IS JUST BONUS, NOT CUSTOMERS RESPONSIBILITY, if the restaurant want to CHARGE FOR TIP, they should include it in the bill, otherwise, let customers decide what they want to do, they should not embarrass their customers and loose them because of some changes like this. Food: Huge portions and very filling. We ordered the ahi tuna tower, spider roll, and dragon roll and it was enough for me, my mom, and sister. All in all, very satisfied with the food. The food is the only reason this review got the 2 stars. Service: This is what will prevent me from coming back. Our waitress Sarah was extremely rude and impatient. When I had questions about the menu she acted very impatient and like I shouldn't have asked her but I thought it was just because she's busy. Our food arrived relatively quickly so I was happy since it was Friday afternoon. I asked her to mix up our tuna tower for us and she was impatient yet again so I just mixed it up myself. Again, i attributed this attitude to the restaurant being busy. However, I asked her for bowls and she gave me obviously dirty bowls. They were still oily and had particles from miso soup left at the bottom. Be careful, I suspect they don't wash their bowls when it's busy and just rinse and dry them. When I asked for new bowls, Sarah came back with an attitude and asked me if the new bowls were "clean enough for me". This place is nice. It is very pricey for dinner, mind you haha. The sushi is made really well with fresh fish and the rolls are humongous, packed with a lot of rice so that's gonna make you really full, especially once you drink water. My group of friends and I shared food and we got the tonkatsu, krispy roll, crunch shrimp tempura roll, red dragon roll, and the I love you roll (this name is too kawaii, I had to end my list with it hehe). The tonkatsu was lightly breaded to a crisp surrounding a sturdy pork loin. It wasn't too chewy and came with a side of special tonkatsu sauce, which wasn't much my cup of tea because it was like a mix of tangy and sour for soy sauce-- not my type of combination. The pork on its own still tastes good. Krispy roll was half cooked, half raw. I don't eat my sushi raw, so I wish they would label their rolls cooked VS raw so that guests like me can differentiate between the two instead of guessing from the description. I assumed it was cooked since it was deep fried, but the ahi tuna and salmon inside was left raw. You played me well, Densetsu lol. Nonetheless, it is still very delicious and I'd recommend it if you can eat any type of sushi, but I would pass on this one even though it's not as bad as a fully raw sushi or sashimi. The crunch shrimp tempura roll was my pick and it was my favorite. Your typical crunch roll minus excessive breading with added shrimp tempura. Absolutely delicious and the crab meat was superb. Red dragon roll is a little bit spicy, so be careful on this one. If you love spice, you'll handle it well. This one has a ton of mayo, by the way. Last, but not least, the I love you roll-- much simpler than the rest of the sushi, mild taste, and it has tamago (egg) in it! Overall, I think that Densetsu has amazing food presentation, but they love to deck out their sushi with rice and special house sauce and mayo. If you love your sushi drenched in mayo, then say hello to Densetsu. Otherwise, after a while of plenty of these type of rolls, your stomach will start to get queasy. Just be on the lookout on the menu to see what goes into your sushi to balance out your meal proportionately. We also ordered dessert which was the green tea ice cream and that fed all four of us in my party. They give it to you in a large bowl shaped martini glass topped with whipped cream and chocolate syrup and a bright red cherry on top. The green tea ice cream was mild and it was a lovely light dessert to end our meal! Every person gets a complimentary orange as their palate cleanser so that's nice and healthy to make up for that sea of mayo we drank from the sushi. Ambience here is formal-casual. You can go either way. Not too brightly lit for dinnertime for that sensual, intimate atmosphere with your date-- and by date, I mean the sushi ;) Hot bomb diggity. Service was attentive and gently polite. As nice as this restaurant is, my boyfriend prefers simple sushi without the try-hard mayo additions, so we are likely not to return. I personally would not mind coming back, but the pricing is almost as ridiculous as the back of yo head. I'm just kidding. It is wallet crushing, though. I haven't tried a lot of sushi before and am recently getting into the sushi culture! I'll have to say that this place was fantastic! It is a very small but tastefully decorated environment. When you walk in every staff member greets you in unison! I ordered the crunch shrimp tempura roll as well as a spicy salmon roll. I was beyond stuffed at the end of the meal because I gobbled up every last bite. The crunch shrimp tempura roll was definitely the best! I'm all about service. I love Densetsu's food don't get me wrong! All the rolls are TO DIE FOR! I usually go to Densetsu for dinner but yesterday I decided to go for lunch with my family. A boy and a girl were working. Both of them were very attentive to all the tables despite the hustle and bustle of the restaurant. The owner walked in right before we got our food and welcomed us with a bright smile. She is a gorgeous woman so I kept looking at her (trust me, I'm not a creep). To my understanding, the girl server messed up on an order and much to my surprise, the owner started yelling at her...infront of everyone. I was not pleased with this. It definitely was not professional. I understand that this is the owner's business and she is in control, but if she wants respect from her customers, she needs to respect her employees. We stopped by for dinner Saturday night around 9 PM (they close at 11 - this is important). Friendly chefs greeted us as soon as we walked in so we opted to sit at the sushi bar. We ordered drinks and an appetizer before our waitress let us know she was done for the night and would be handing us off to another server - no biggie. Five minutes after ordering our rolls we started smelling a very strong odor of disinfectant. Turns out they were scrubbing down the kitchen and mopping the floors. My nose hadn't hurt this bad since the time I partied with Charlie Sheen. So we packed up and headed for a seat outside. A few minutes later all was forgotten when we were served some delicious rolls. The Sea Breeze Roll is a definite must get - extremely light, fresh and flavorful. Then it appears our newly assigned waitress left for the evening and did not let anyone know she had a table outside. Eventually I had to go inside to ask for the bill and also point out that the sashimi we'd ordered had never arrived. This time it was @ rush lunch hour and so I thought I'd call in and order to let them know I needed a table and place my order. When I called in Gina, the owner answered and recognized the voice on the line. Refreshing.... When I arrived, the place was packed but to my delight, I was seated immediately. Had miso soup to start. FAB! As always. Then had the Lone Star roll. Usually don't get fried rolls. Their rolls are HUGE!! It was AMAZBALLZ !! I have ordered in the past, Ahi Tower, Sunset roll, rainbow roll, smoked salmon, and Japanese Scallop. All to die for. It's a feel good atmosphere. Simply decorated but tasteful. The one thing I absolutely LOVE is how you're welcomed. When you walk in each and every time you're greeted with a warm welcome as they say... Irashaimase.... The owner Gina is one of the most genuinely sincere, enthusiastic, beautiful person! To finish your meal, they serve a very chilled orange that tastes like it came out of the garden of Eden. Don't be fooled by their all-Asian staff, this is far from authentic Japanese. They Googled how to say, "いらしゃいませ" and as people leave, they shout "ありがとうございます" which is incorrect grammatically. As I waited, I doodled on a plate with soy sauce, "電設" which is simply their name. The waitress asked if it was Japanese. I said yes. She stated she "didn't even know how to write it." I asked if she was Japanese, and she said no (I knew she wasn't, she was obviously Korean). Why would one assume you know Japanese if you're not Japanese? It just seemed arrogant to me. As I signed my receipt, I left grammar tips for them to use in the future. The food wasn't that great. But after having real Japanese food from living there, nothing in the US will compare. Rarely will the Japanese open a restaurant. Most are Korean or Taiwanese operated. So, please don't ever think you're actually having anything authentic. Wowww!!!! Japanese cuisine has been my favorite since I was small child living in Hawaii. In Texas it is hard to find delicious, perfect Japanese food and most places just don't have what it takes. Densetsu is a gem, hidden away in Plano on the SW corner of Spring Creek and Coit. Get there before 6 to avoid the crowd. They also have a small patio. The food is delicious and beautiful and plentiful. Their menu is authentic (with a twist) and extensive sushi choices. My new favorite is the Dragon Roll, which is a "baked" roll, which is a California Roll with Salmon and Tuna baked on top with a yummy sauce. Deeeelicious! I can't even finish it myself and with a salad I was stuffed! My kid scarfrf up the edemame, Gyoza and Cali rolls with chopsticks! My 2 year old polished off two bowls of miso soup, it is that good! My husband who is not adventurous LOVES this place and all the food he has tried. The Hawaiian Poki salad is huge and so so good. The staff all welcome you by calling out to you in Japanese when you enter and leave. My 8 year old was very taken by this and though it was so special. I have a child with severe tree nut allergy. We can't eat out very often because we can't ensure his safety due to untrained staff, contamination fears, and language barriers at most restaurants. Based on the reviews of Densetsu, I came in and met with the owner, Gina, who is always there. She was wonderful and assured me there are no nuts or coconut at all brought into Densetsu! All the sauces are made from scratch. The only thing they have brought in is the ice cream and toppings and she carefully checked all labels for my son so he could have a big dessert after devouring a huge meal. It is truly a blessing for my family to have Densetsu. We will continue to come here for the wonderful food, atmosphere, and safe surroundings. It is priced comparably with all other Japanese places, but the food far surpasses the others. This is now my son's "go to" place for honor roll celebrations (makes us happy!). Gina visits your table herself, dotes on the kids, and just really takes care of her guests. I can't recommend Densetsu enough. The food is tasty and they really aim to please, and will make sure you are happy. And if you happen to have a food allergy, you can't beat an English-speaking, conscientious owner (whose husband and co-owner is the chef) who will make sure you are safe and taken care of. This is the one place that serves huge sushi rolls and I looove it! There's definitely quality food here. It's nice that I don't fee like I'm just eating mainly rice from the sushi. Unlike some places, Densetsu is very generous with the sushi stuffing so you can taste every bit of that spicy tuna or salmon. I feel like 1 roll is equivalent to 2 rolls because it's so big. Pricing is within the usual $12-18, but at least you're getting bigger portions. Service is good...although it can get really busy to where you have a hard time catching the attention of your server. Salmon tower is good, but mix it yourself! Got this for the first time and it was yummy, but the mayo is super rich and really gets to you after a few bites. The udon is really good too. Broth is delicious! Servers are always nice and attentive. They also greet you very enthusiastically when you walk in. Portions are large, food is tasty, sometimes seems overpriced (like $8 for a single shot of soju), and it can get cramped and loud pretty fast. The main problem with this restaurant is that the new owners do not feel that having a manager on the premises is important, so no one is running the restaurant. Managing the restaurant is left up the the waiters, take out order takers and the sushi chefs, which results in the long waits despite the restaurant being 1/2 full or ordering take out at 5 pm. I might have just come on an off day but... Densetsu will not be my go-to destination to satisfy my sushi or sashimi cravings. I'm very very picky when it comes to eating japanese cuisine because I developed a spoiled taste for how my sushi or sashimi should be. Let me start off about the staff and decor. Right when I walked in, my partner and I were the only customers in the room. They greeted you a formal hello and then let us sit down wherever we wanted (they prefer if you wait to be seated but the place was slow). The restaurant is unbearably cold and tables were so small and uncomfortable. Even though we were very new to the restaurant and asked for recommendations, our waitress had no interest in taking care of us. She just let us be and came back to take orders later. We ordered the vegetable tempura, cherry blossom roll, and the green tea tempura ice cream. The vegetable tempura was GREAT. Perfect amount of batter and the vegetables were a great size and portion. For the cherry blossom roll: ALL THE BUZZ IS TRUE. The rolls are humongous. I actually prefer a smaller size because it's much too hard to eat. Other than that, the roll was delicious in flavor. For the dessert: the tempura ice cream... just skip it. Do yourself that favor. It's just not worth it at all. Overall, my first experience could be better. Will I come back? They are definitely generous with their rice, spicy tuna, snow crab, and cuts of fish. First off, although the servers are very nice, service is shitty. If you're anal about service, go somewhere else. It's tiny, cramped, and can get loud and noisy and the servers seem to get overwhelmed. There hasn't been one visit in which we haven't had to wave down our server just to get refills on drinks... but that's just what you gotta do here. Secondly, don't expect authentic Japanese food. If you nitpick the authenticity of food and can't just enjoy what's going in your mouth, go somewhere else. That being said, I love this place. We occasionally bring our children, but mainly it's just my husband and I. We know how crowded it can get, but we don't mind sitting and talking. We have our favorites and know what to expect and we always try something new. The Hawaiian Poke is one of my favorites. While it isn't authentic Hawaiian Poke, the flavors are close (closer than Roy's Poke) enough to remind me of home (Hawaii) and overall delicious. I just wish the tomato pieces weren't so big. It's raw tuna cut into pieces, with chunks of tomato, cucumber and avocado, mixed together in a yummy sauce. We typically order this as an appetizer, but I could eat this as a meal with a side of rice. Ahi Tower- It's not sushi, but the ingredients that come out in a "tower" and are then mixed together. So you end up eating a goulash looking dish. Might not sound or look pleasing, but close your eyes and put it in your mouth, YUM! My husband's favorite is the Popcorn Lobster Roll. They stack a spicy tuna roll in a bowl, top it with a bunch of fried lobster pieces and sprinkle on a few sauces. I really enjoy this too, but I can only handle so much sweet and the sweet eel sauce tends to pool at the bottom and soak into the rolls. Of course this is why my husband loves this dish - the sweet sauce with the spicy tuna. The popcorn lobster is delicious and not over cooked at all. Red Mountain Roll - It is what it says. California roll topped with spicy tuna wrapped with salmon. I think this would be a good sushi roll for sushi newbies. The spicy tuna is just piled on top, so if it's "too much" it can easily be knocked off. The Desentsu Roll - My husband and friend loved all the different flavors coming together... I couldn't get over the fried onions. They're homemade, but reminded me too much of French's onions (barf). The Baked Scallop Roll - One of the picky eaters loved this roll. I thought it was bland, but I tried this right after a bite of the popcorn lobster roll (super sweet). It's also a very soft roll. I like at a little firmness. Kid's chicken teriyaki - I personally wouldn't order this, but I'm pretty sure this is specifically made for picky eaters or sensitive palates. Downgrading Densetsu to a 3 for the service. I came here to catch up with some childhood friends over the break last week, and it reminded me why I prefer to get Densetsu to-go. Knowing how busy Densetsu gets (even on weekdays!), I made a reservation for 6:40 PM and specifically requested not to be seated at the sushi bar. We walked in a little before (not after!) 6:40 and were told that they had accidentally *given away our reserved table* (they weren't clear about what happened--something along the lines of someone else claiming my reservation?). The hostess was apologetic and asked if we wanted to be seated at the sushi bar, which we didn't (since we wanted to be able to catch up, and sitting in a line at the bar would have been awkward and inconvenient), and we decided instead to sit at the bar to wait for a table to become available. We ended up waiting about 15 minutes at the bar, and when we asked if we could put in our orders so that the food would be ready as soon as we got to our table, our server (who was aware of the "we gave away the reservation you made" situation) said it wouldn't be possible since if you're sitting at the sushi bar, they'll just put the sushi right in front of you (ok...... I get it that maybe that's how they typically operate, but really, it isn't possible to make a small accommodation for a customer with whom you've already made a huge mistake?). In any case, when we got to the table, we ended up having to wait again just to put in our orders (and then, of course, we waited for them to make the food even though we'd decided what we wanted 20 minutes earlier). At the end of the day, maybe we should have done more to express our discontentment/dissatisfaction with the situation (admittedly, we were smiling and good-natured about it the whole time), but we wanted to be polite and figured that it had been an accident. Still, their complete lack of remediation (seriously, you could have taken our orders at the bar or at least given us a free dessert...) and unwillingness to accommodate customers they had already inconvenienced came off as inattentive and unprofessional. I still think the Ahi Tower is to die for (literally, maybe, given the size/ingredients), but I'll stick to take-out. read more

My wife and I had dinner here after reading all of the great reviews of this place. First off, the space is small and cramped. If your party is just two people they will put you by the outside wall where it's a long bench on one side and a chair on the other. The table is small too which is a problem since they like to use large plates and bowls for presentation. We got there just before six on a Saturday and the place was pretty busy already. As I like to do when I visit a place for the first time I order a variety of dishes so I can really get a sense for the place. We started off with an order of soft shelled crab tempura as well as a mixed tempura place which came with mushrooms, broccoli, green beans, sweet potatoes, and shrimp. We also ordered the fried tempura dish. These three plates completely took over the tiny table we were seated at. For the main we ordered the red mountain roll, the superman burrito (since several reviewers raved about it), eel sashimi, hamachi sashimi, and salmon sushi. I also ordered some uni but the server came back and told me that they ran out of it. Each of these dishes were also served on huge plates and bowls which was really inconvenient for the small tables they have here. The small table and big plate issue was a problem throughout our visit as we were constantly playing Jenga at our table trying to move this plate or that plate so it would sit without falling off the table. The service was a bit off as well. The servers were friendly but they had a terrible time knowing when to bring this dish or that dish. They basically brought everything to the table at once; all seven plates and bowls. It was really ridiculous watching as I could see the gears turning in their heads trying to visualize how to make it all fit on a two by three foot table. I had to tell them to take it back and wait for us to get done with our starters. Because of this parade of servers that kept coming to the table to drop something new off before there was space available we felt we were being rushed to the point the whole thing was more stressful than enjoyable. Another thing people should be aware of at this place. The rolls people rave about like the red mountain and superman burrito are huge. The red mountain roll is about three inches in diameter to it is really not easy to eat. You either have to pick at it so you don't get the combination of flavors and textures to hit your palate or you will have to stuff a fist sized piece into your mouth and look ridiculous. The superman burrito comes in a burrito form factor like a Chipotle burrito wrapped in paper and then wrapped with a rice paper sprinkled with black and tan sesame seeds instead of a tortilla. It is a lot of rice and fish. I remembered it had salmon and tuna (red) and avocado slices but I don't remember what else it had. My issue with this "burrito" was that the sashimi inside it was not diced. It was three inch long slices of fish so when you take a bite and pull away you will be pulling out long strips of fish. Something so obvious but not considered. We were there less than an hour and dropped $150. For that we felt stressed out and rushed. The quality of the fish was good so I still felt this place was deserving of three stars but they really need to work on the issues I have noticed. If you are going to use giant plates don't have tiny tables to serve them on. Also work on timing when dishes are brought to the table so you won't make diners feel rushed. They do have larger tables on the outside patio but the strong winds are a problem. All in all while the quality of the fish was good there are too many other issues that made this dining experience not as pleasurable as it could have been. I will not be in a hurry to come back but may give it another visit in six months. Until then I will go to Sushi Sake. read more

The sushi rolls are SO BIG that it's really unappetizing. Trying to eat one piece turns into 2 or 3 messy bites. You'd think that they'd at least fill the gigantic rolls with more ingredients, but it's 90% filled with imitation crab meat.
