Torrance Food Crawl #137 It's been over 40 years since I was last in this Denny's. This was one of my high school hangouts when my friends and I wanted to get some late night eats. It's been remodeled probably several times since then and the corner booth where we used to sit is gone, no surprise. Over the decades Denny's has been stepping up their game and while they're still 'middle of the road' in many regards they have made a real effort to change up their menu over the years. I ordered the first thing on the menu, the new Banana Berry Pancake Breakfast. It comes with two eggs, bacon or sausage, hash browns, and two blueberry buttermilk pancakes with sliced bananas on top. The eggs, hash browns, and sausage are fairly standard simple items and they were just about as I expected. Good, but nothing fancy. The blueberry pancakes were covered with fresh banana slices. Without syrup they were a little dry but a touch of syrup was all they needed. There were plenty of blueberries added to the pancakes. Sometimes I've seen pancakes go cheap on the fillings but not these pancakes. The bananas were good but I'm not sure they were really necessary, the pancakes were able to stand on their own. All together, a very filling breakfast. There is plenty of parking in the lot, but getting back on Sepulveda can be problematic so when you're leaving just wait for an opening in the traffic which will eventually appear. read more

I have to admit my expectations weren't high when my husband opted to eat here as we had to hit the road early. However, Jorge is what made this experience delightful. From the minute we walked in, he greeted us w a smile. The hostess was sweet too and sat us right away. Within seconds Jorge waited on us. Our coffees were served in a jiffy along w my son's hot chocolate. Jorge did not skip a beat! He ensured we weren't missing anything and brought our food out in a timely manner. He truly is an asset to this establishment and I would hope that he is treated and paid well because it's service such as his that keeps consumers like myself intrigued. The food today was also good--we all enjoyed our food. But again, Jorge is what made the experience that much more delightful. Thanks Jorge! read more

Long time customer. Pleasant greeting when I arrive. I pass by two other Denny's restaurants to eat at Sepulveda and Maple. The service is good there but Elizabeth is special. I have my order a special way and she already knows what I want. Sometimes my order is ready soon after I wash my hands and sit down. Either Elizabeth and even the cook see me walking across the parking lot and start the order. The busboy greets people with a "Good Morning " as he walks by. They are definitely a credit to your organization. Keep up the good work. read more

After getting my car inspected, I came here for lunch. I was starving, so I asked for a fruit bowl while I waited for my main entree. I got my coffee, water, and bowl quickly. I ordered the chicken skillet, which took about ten minutes to get. The entree was delicious, and came with potatoes and veggies as well. The portions were sizable, so I was good for several hours. The staff here was also friendly and attentive. They made sure I was taken cared of, and I checked out without a problem. This is a pretty legit Denny's location, I would recommend them. read more

Darius was very understanding and knows exactly what customer service should be like. For example, I ordered the Burbon sizzler, but instead got the Crazy Sizzler with chorizo. Darius apologized and fixed the order right away. However, when Marino was notifed of the incident je blamed ME for the mistake bc I wasn't specific enough in ordering. He said, "Because both sizzler plates have chicken we picked whatever plate for you." and looking back that is the most ignorant comment he could ever say to a customer. Mind you, I was calm and polite about the situation bc I too work in food service, and understand that things don't go as planned. Darius, I applaud you for your humility and kindness. After an evening of adult beverages, I found myself at Denny's to give my intestines a balance of both liquids and solids. Now, maybe it was my inebriated state that made it seem like time was standing still or that the food was bordering a quality that I wouldn't serve my dog but I believe that this location was just that bad. First, to walk in and have to seat ourselves while the staff passes you by without so much of a glance is bad. To have to wave someone down for menus, water and to order food is bad. To allow patrons in with attire that would make some porn stars blush is bad ... well, that I can let slide; but to allow people to light up and start smoking is against the law, isn't it? Anyway, I know the late night crowd is different but service is still service and food is still food. The service was non-existent and the food was bad. Just grateful for the cheap menu because if I had to pay more, I would have asked to speak to management. Park close to the doors. Parking in the back when the outdoor lighting isn't working can seem a little intimidating if you're not packing. read more

Denny's for breakfast. You know what you're gonna get. Good food. This particular Denny's has some of the best breakfast service. The staff is friendly, quick, they keep the coffee coming and and they remember you if you've been there a few times. I can't comment on the rest of the menu because I've never been a big fan of Denny's for lunch of dinner. Price: Not as cheap as I'd expect for a breakfast plate. Atmosphere: This is an older location but they've recently refreshed the furniture. The place is kept clean. The crowd is mostly older folks and some families (again, just talking morning breakfast). read more

Even if this may not be the right place to say this, your app does not make it easy to contact who is responsible for rejecting all of my online orders. But when I place an order by phone however, it always goes through. That would be fine if I could obtain and use the rewards the mobile app provides, but unfortunately it does not. I'm surprised I am giving a Denny's 5 stars. I've had bad experiences before and actually had a bad experience at this one years ago when I first moved to South Bay, but I miss diners. I don't see a lot of them around unless they are Mexican food. I wasn't in the mood for Mexican and needed a place I could sit down for a few hours without pressure to leave (like Panera), having greasy hands from my meal (like Jersey Mike's), and not feel like I'll lose my seat if I run to the bathroom. Last time I wanted to get some work done a have a quick meal, I went to Starbucks, which is very little food and coffee for 12$. This Denny's I had some chicken fried steak and eggs with coffee and toast. Over Easy Eggs were cooked perfect, the gravy was good, and the meat was perfect. Food was quick, I put it down in about 5 min, and then asked the waiter if I could just chill with my coffee for a little (about 90 min). He said "of course", took my dishes and left me alone until I was packing up to drop off my check. The wifi worked well, the booth was comfortable, and outside of the horrible Denny's pop music (which I had headphones anyway), it was great. I totally forgot his name, but I think it was Eduardo. I have been coming to this Denny's for a long time and have NEVER had the problems that I had coming today. My husband and I came for brunch on his birthday, which happened to be a Sunday. The place was PACKED first off, which is understandable for being a Sunday. It took about 10 minutes for us to be sat. But once they sat us down, they basically FORGOT ABOUT US!! After sitting in our booth for about 15 minutes, I finally got up and went to find a server. The lovely young woman that helped us was wonderful, but not our server. After sitting there for another 20 minutes after placing our order (we've been here for 45 minutes now), the table behind us got sat. The server was at their table taking their order in LESS THAN 5 MINUTES!! I then had to flag down our server to get silverware as she just hightailed it away once she took the other tables order. We then waited ANOTHER 10 minutes for our food. Our food finally came out, then the table behind ours food came out RIGHT AFTER OURS!! WTF?! Once we finally got our food, it wasn't even good! I got the southwest skillet, but they were out of chorizo so I got sausage. There was literally NO seasoning on it at all, and food on about 3/4 of the skillet, so barely even a full meal. My husband got the triple double, with French toast, scrambled eggs, bacon, and pancakes (which we had to add). The French toast was barely cooked, and the eggs and bacon both tasted like they had been sitting for a long time, not fresh at all. The pancakes and coffee were the only thing that was half decent! Our "server" came to ask us how our experience was....we let her know all of the problems. She apologized and said the manager would talk to us when we left. The actual server then came over to ask if we were ok, in an annoyed tone. I told her also about the issues, which she apologized for, but didn't seem like she really cared too much. Just said that she wasn't our server but is "here to help everyone". Whatever. Definitely won't be coming back here on a Sunday (if ever) again. read more

The only reason I'm giving this five stars is because my gf and I went here at 2 am on New Year's Day and there was only THREE people working (server, cook, and busser) and it was a damn near full restaurant. It took us a while to get seated, seen, get drinks, and our food but that's okay because these men were BUSY. The customers that are coming in kept giving them a hard time and being rude but failed to realize these men were taking care of everyone and getting shit DONE. Kudos to them for pulling that hat trick. Shame on the management for only scheduling THREE people on a New Year's Day, like come on, what were you thinking?! These men's deserved every tip they got. Had the worst customer service here and they wouldn't seat anyone even after waiting for over 30 minutes. Multiple parties left and the restaurant was mostly empty yet no one was being seated. After waiting that long the lady at the front desk told me that they would not be seating people for a long time and she just laughed when she said it. I would not recommend going here unless you want to wait forever and maybe not get seated at all. read more

We've been coming to this location for a while now and by far it's our favorite one. The service they have provided to us all this time has been great. We are always greeted respectfully and the wait time hasn't been bad except when they are super busy and that's understandable. Denny's has always been a go-to for a quick dinner or a comfort sit down dinner when you are coming home from somewhere or just don't feel like cooking. This location made the best omelette I've ever seen from a Denny's, the spinach omelette had so much spinach it was huge, and compared to the normal flat omelettes from Denny's it was nice. Service was very good, no complaints there, except we had to have the bill adjusted because the computer added items that made the omelette over $18 ... Our bill for 4 people was $75 .. not including tip. Dennys prices have gotten out of control for a cafe. I get it, inflation, but burgers are over $15 now, add a drink tip and tax and you are over $20 each... for Denny's!! Seems their prices aren't matching their quality and reputation, I hope they plan on lowering their prices now that business has picked up. We def will consider other options when considering denny's as their prices match so many other restaurants now. read more

By far the best Denny's we have ever been to. The host was extremely friendly, and we were able to get seated immediately. Jorge was our server, and he was extremely attentive, friendly, and efficient. He needs to get a raise, he's awesome! If we lived in the area, we would be repeat customers. Recently discovered this location and was very pleasantly surprised. I have been back 3 times in the past week. The entire staff is very friendly and accommodating. We were out really early, before our usual places were open, but we were hungry. So we went to Denny's and got the Fit Fare breakfast with no eggs, extra avocado, and dry sourdough toast. Since I am vegan, the good mixture of fresh vegetables, salsa and that avocado were good for me. I take away a star because they need to offer non-dairy alternatives to the creamer they have. That would make it more acceptable to this vegan. It was a big plate of vegetables! Potatoes, spinach, onions, lots of broccoli, cherry tomatoes and avocado. While Denny's may not have been our first choice, it was good, the service was friendly, the coffee was hot (although Black), and we were happy. read more
