Soooooo my partner and I were tired one evening, a Thursday I think, we didn't feel like cooking and we're like hell lets go to a bar, have a drink and eat bar food! Boyyy did we finally find our spot!! Reminds me of those awesome family-owned neighborhood bars back in Champaign-Urbana (yes, Illinos but we're Angelenos)...the kind you don't really plan for, but end up talking about later. We've been here twice now and honestly? We love it! First time, there was live music, open mic night. Just people showing up, putting their heart out there. No pretentious vibe, just good energy. Second time, there was line dancing. And if you bought one of the drinks you got a raffle ticket for free classes. Completely different night, same welcoming feel. How cool is that?!! The thing about this place is that it shifts, but sort of still feels like home. The first night it was raining, and they let us bring in our 3-month-old poodle, Kopi, without hesitation. Not only that! they offered him a blanket!!! A blanket!!! For our dog!!! Yeah...that told me everything. They kept checking in on us, making sure we were taken care of, recommending drinks like we were regulars. And there were clearly many regulars there. Drinks were solid...good cider, good beer, good mixed drinks. And the food? Omg! The food!!! Honestly fucking underrated (can I curse?). Way better than you'd expect from a bar, though to be fair some of the best food I've had has been from a bar's kitchen.. You know.... the kind of food where you take a bite...and your eyebrow rises just a tad...you pause and are like....okay wait, this is really freaking good! It's a casual place to grab and beer and hang out. They had line dancing the night we went and it was very busy. Not really enough room to order and line dance, but they make it work as best they can. The burger was just okay, not something to order again. Their fries weren't the best either, the fish from the fish and chips was the best thing we tried. Their beer was okay, I'm not really a beer person, but my husband is. He wasn't super impressed with his. I'm there to hang out and order the least hoppy beer possible. I tried the blackberry plum sour and it definitely makes you pucker. We were visiting town and looking for a dog friendly brewery to check out. We had been to the Project Barley at Redondo Pier and enjoyed their beers. I knew the pier wasn't dog friendly so we decided to visit this location. There was plenty of dog friendly places to sit. There was plenty of inside seating as well. We had the wings and the chicken salad. The wings were so tasty, crispy, and sauced perfectly. We had a key lime sour and a ddh dipa. A nice casual local space. Super cozy with the options to sit at the bar, at high bar tables, sit down table seating or outdoors in the narrow patio area. There's a large TV screen, some board games and darts to keep you occupied. I've been here twice now both on the late afternoons to enjoy a beer with friends. It's not a modern space but comfortable. The bartender let me sample some of her recommendations based on what I like. I really enjoyed the Neverland. Very tasty and smooth. I was bummed to find out the pinball machine is no longer there. Good vibes here! I was a guest of the band that played on a Saturday evening in December. Although I got a ride here, there were plenty of free parking spots in the back. This Project Barley Square is a small pub located in Old Torrance. There are other locations in the South Bay. I'm not a beer drinker so I can only say that the folks around me seemed to enjoy the beverages and live classic rock music. I did get ginger ale from the bartender and she was super nice. Later in the evening, I did order a side of french fries and they were okay. They have an outdoor patio area which is great for groups. Restroom was clean. They had a Christmas tree with a Guinness hat on top. They also have their "People Love Us on yelp sticker" up. Hope to be back for more classic rock! read more

Such an amazing place to hang out if you like having great beer in chill, cozy vibes. The beer menu has a good variety, so there's always something for every mood! Food menu is also pretty good and not too pricey. I've had the Fish & Chips, 2 Russel Sprouts, Giant Pub Pretzel and they were all great. It's a spacious place with plenty of seating both inside and outside, so it never feels too crowded. I love the fireplace inside and the fire pit outside, it really adds to the cozy atmosphere. Whether you go in solo or with a group of friends, they are always very welcoming and attentive. This place changed owners sometime recently. This used to be the Yorkshire Square Brewing Company. Although the beers remained thankfully for the most part the same, the menu has changed. We used to love their Fish and Chips under the old name and management. So here are two comparative photos of the Fish and Chips. The first photo from what is now known as Project Barley Brewery, and the second photo of Fish and Chips is from what used to be known as the Yorkshire Square Brewing Co. Same location in Torrance, but different owners. The new pub chef in the first photo has smaller portions of fish. The outside is not crispy with the inside being slightly dry due to being overcooked. The second photo is from a past visit when it was still Yorkshire Square Brewing Company, before it became Project Barley Square. The original pub chef served a larger portion of fish. The outside was light and crispy, while the inside was moist and juicy. I wish that the original chef was still there. The ambiance lost some of its uniqueness as there were cutouts of the royal family and pictures of towns in England. I am sad to see that is now gone. I will still come back for the beer. Although I will try the other offerings on the food menu, unfortunately I will need to find another place for authentic Fish and Chips. read more

I ended up at Project Barley on a whim because I was nearby, and I was NOT DISAPPOINTED. As a beer enthusiast, I was excited to see what they offered since I hadn't visited in years. I stuck to the Neverland for the most part, but because I love a good West Coast IPA. I arrived around 5 PM on a Tuesday, and while it was a bit slow at first, Ricardo did an amazing job of making me feel welcomed and informed. He offered me the happy hour menu that ended at 6 PM. I was hungry, so I asked about the fish and chips, and his recommendation was spot on--I can confirm they were fantastic! I stayed to enjoy the karaoke night. I'm a bit shy about singing, but Hannah made everyone feel so comfortable that I ended up getting on stage. This was also my first time trying cask beer. It was different at first, but I learned to appreciate the flavor and temperature. The brewery and restrooms were clean and well-equipped. Funny enough, I've driven by here plenty of times and never even noticed a brewery here! Hubbers scheduled to meet up with some of his college friends (who happen to be doing a pub crawl of some sort) and this was where we were told to meet with them. (And that's how the discovery was made!) All parking spots were taken EXCEPT the one right up front, so we lucked out on that part. We all arrived within minutes of each other and all walked in together, pretty much. There was a private event/party that was pretty much at the end, so the staff hadn't gotten the chance to do a bit of clean up just yet. No biggie, we sorta just took it upon ourselves to set aside stuff and take advantage of the open seats and tables near the fireplace. Hubbers handed me a menu, but since we just had lunch not too long before coming through, I passed on the grub. I'm not familiar with their products so I took my time going through their brews selection. The lime light caught my eye and without asking, I was given a sample to try. I'll admit I'm not really a fan of sour anything, but this was mild with a really flavorful finish. The dealbreaker was when I was told it won a couple of awards, so yep... I went for it! They have a following as almost every table was occupied in the duration we were there. They do have activities scheduled once in a while. I believe they have an open mic on Thursdays. Gotta keep that in mind. I enjoyed the drink so much, I went for a second not too long after finishing my first. I really liked it! FOOD: (well.. drink/Lime light) Solid 5. SERVICE: 3. I remember this spot being a lot better than my visit today. The fish and chips batter was poorly done and had the texture of mashed potatoes on the inside. Fish tasted unseasoned and the tartar sauce was out of a bottle. Fries were over done. Might've been last of the batch. The Memphis burger was really good flavor just kinda falls apart though. They have several locations. Note: this is the one on Van Ness in Old Torrance, near 3355 Asian Grill and BCG. This brewery is GREAT for groups! I came here recently for a friend's birthday. They were able to reserve some tables outdoors in their back patio. There were maybe 20 of us and there was plenty of space for everyone. The place is super chill. Love the relaxed vibes-- it's overall great for a casual group hangout. They let us bring our own dessert/snacks too. The place is also dog friendly! Indoors, they had TVs, darts, and a free pinball machine! Unlimited plays for free! Their beer selection isn't too wide but they had a decent amount as well as wines, mimosas, shandy, hard cider, etc. There's something for everyone! Though the wines and beer cocktails don't scream the pub vibe they are going for. Yellow mustard and a greasy pub pretzel with a broken cheese sauce? And fried previously frozen Brussel sprouts with a sprinkling of Parmesan cheese melted on top? Food is a no go; maybe their specials are better but I don't think I'll be back to try. Review based on the food only. Somewhat of a hidden gem, this gastropub is located across the tracks on the other side of Torrance Blvd in Old Torrance. There's indoor, as well as, plenty of outdoor seating on the patio. After eyeing the large baskets of Fish n Chips brought to other tables, i knew I had to try it. Service is more laidback. Our order seemed to arrive fairly quickly though. Th F&C came with a generous hunk of filet in a crispy batter and it's the real deal, with malt vinegar. This is the best authentic British fish n chips I've had locally in a long time. Parking in the lot. Will be back to update the review on the bear. read more

We went there for lunch on the weekend and it was so comfortable and nice. The bartender and patrons were all very friendly and helped me choose the fish and chips and a great sour beer. My girlfriend had the chicken salad and it was tasty but was disappointed that it was ground chicken not whole chicken. They have an awesome outdoor dining area and are very pet friendly. Great beers, fantastic food, cool atmosphere. This place specializes in British cask ales and the menu is a mix of British food and modern American. They also have a decent selection of regular beers too if you dont like cask ales (I dont). You order and pay at the bar and seat yourself, which makes splitting the bill with a large group easy. The patio area is small, but its dog friendly and really nice. They have live music most nights, which my wife and I really enjoy. The parking lot is small but its very easy to park on the street if you need to. The food is also really great here and my go-to is the bacon wrapped hotdog sliders. I am bumping this to 5 stars, on the strength of the always excellent beer (the bitter I tried last time was especially good) and the great relaxed atmosphere. I also tried the food - the bangers and mash were pretty good. Not great, because frankly the gravy had a bit of a bitter taste, but otherwise the dish including sausage, potatoes, and mashed peas (especially this) hit the spot and went great with the beer. Also, in case you are wondering if the Real Ales here are authentic - I spoke with a native of Yorkshire who has had a few pints here, and he reports that not only are they quite authentic, but are indeed close copies of specific Real Ales he knows from Yorkshire (by different names). Good beer and service, absolutely mediocre food. Seats are nice outside and plenty of them, but just surprised how bland the food was. Giant basket of fries and dime cup of ketchup. Salad with no dressing and they were going to charge me for "extra" dressing. You are charging $18 for a chicken sandwich, unreal that they hold back on condiment size and even upcharge for the normal amount. We had to get our own napkins and silverware when food was brought to us too. Paid a lot of money for very little, I don't think I will be going back, there are just too many options to resort to mediocre. read more

LOVE this brewery - it's the best one around! Try every beer and leave no ale unturned. Their range of English beer is impressive, and always try the nitro. The only thing that rivals their beer is their food. Fantastic pub fare, good luck not ordering everything. Start with a Scotch Egg because it is awesome! Be sure to share because it is incredibly filling. Have some Pub Sliders if you just want a good burger - they're really good burgers. I think they stopped making the Curry, but their chicken tikka looks just as promising. My personal favorite is still Bangers & Mash. The bangers smooth, and the gravy packs a punch. nice space with indoor and outdoor action. good band was playing that night. but then I ordered a beer. they had a good enough selection--something for everyone, if you will--at the scant price of 8.32. now you would think that they would have adjusted for tax and that 8.32 would turn into 9 bucks even, after tax. nope. it was 9.17. so I saw a band for a while, stayed for two drinks, and was out over 20 bucks with tip. that's for two beers made on premises. everyone was nice. the place was clean and the seating was comfortable.
