On a day when was craving crunchy tacos, I decided to give Tom's Tacos a try since it has great reviews. I was expecting the tacos to be similar to Tito's Tacos. I drove up to the spot and found that it's take out only. I was greeted by the cashier with a friendly hello and I placed my order for one taco of each, beef, chicken, and kalua pork, each with cheese. I can't comment on the ambiance of the place as it is take out only. I got my order in about five minutes and made my way to the car. We "found" Tom's during the pandemic and had been excited to find the "original" Tito's flavors. At the time, Tito's had been closed anyway, so we drove from Culver City to Torrance, and under the various shutdown protocols, knew that Tom's was only operating as a takeout window. With that said, at the time, the price was right because Tito's had already begun to over-inflate their prices, and had changed their recipe. It was worth the drive! But fast forward: Today is 12/31/25 and I was in the area. Had already planned on Tacos from a Culver City location for NYE takeout, but decided to see if Tom's was open while I was down there. I jumped on Yelp for the phone number and found a picture of menu from 4 months ago. I called and placed my order over the phone, a little surprised that I was given a total that was significantly more than my mental math. But it made sense when I arrived and saw the CURRENT menu. YIKES! I know, everything is going up... but I'm not really feeling that Tom's vs Tito's is a financial difference anymore. And for this trip, it was takeout anyway, but I was disappointed that they are still operating as a takeout window. It's actually very rare that I just end up in the Torrance area, and though I would absolutely drive down to eat at Tom's, it's not really convenient to drive down for takeout. As for the food, Mom enjoyed her taco but feels like something was missing- she couldn't describe what. The chips are on point. The salsa is delicious. Small spot located in a strip mall that specializes in tacos dorados. All orders come with free chips and salsa here. The people here are friendly and you order from a window that's connected to the outside of the restaurant. I ordered one crunchy taco with cheese as well as a bean and cheese burrito. The flavors were good and the fried items had a nice crunch to them. The salsa is definitely close and well the flavors of the food to the other place that everybody obviously compares it to. This place first got on my radar because I read somewhere that they are affiliated with Tito's Tacos. Exactly how I am not 100% sure but I think it has something to do with being in the same family and this place broke off or something. The similarities are obvious including the prices, ordering style, and flavors. Definitely if you're craving the crunchy fried style tacos down in the South Bay this is a great option. I have been a fan of ToM's TaCos since their location in Anaheim at Beach and Ball. Having moved to OC it was fantastic to have a childhood restaurant that you loved close by. The salsa, tacos, chips comparable with Tito's, but better in my opinion. The beef is better and Tom's just built a better taco. If you enjoyed Tito's in the past, this place is worth a try. Not sure why they have a tip jar. There is no inside seating or outside seating for that matter. You can only order at the door where an employee stands with a register on a cart blocking the doorway. You stand outside and wait even though there is space inside for seating if they wanted. Had heard about this place for many, many years and finally decided to give it a try. We did not think it lived up to the hype. The individual tacos are a bit pricey for a take-out joint and we found them to be bland. They were fried nicely though, and not greasy. The salsa had a lot of herby flavor that reminded us of Italian rather than Mexican seasoning (maybe Mexican oregano). The super nachos were tasty and plentiful. The best crunchy tacos in town! I've been going to Tom's Tacos for over 10 years now and I still find any excuse to stop by whenever I'm in the area. The closest thing you can compare this place to, but don't, is Tito's Tacos in Culver City. Whatever you do, don't mention Tito's at this place lol. However, I've been a Tito's customer for over 20 years and Tom's for over 10 and I'll pick Tom's any day. Their tacos, burritos, guacamole, and salsa are as good or even better. Better yet, they offer chicken! If you still have any doubts I'll tell you what you don't have to deal with here is finding a parking spot and long lines. At Tom's you'll always find parking, there are NEVER any lines, and you get the personal experience and satisfaction of supporting a small business. Over there years I've had the pleasure of chatting it up with the owner, Ted. I even watched his son grow up as he slowly started working the register at a young age. This is truly a family business. It always felt like hole in the wall and after Covid it really became a hole in the wall. They closed their seating area and now it's just a walk up window for to go orders. This place is cash only so please come prepared but when you do come talk to the staff. They truly are the nicest. I remember when Tom's was it at the previous location on Del Amo and I followed them to this new location. I will forever be a Tom's fan and advocate. I LOVE TOM'S TACOS!!! Just ordered food from Tom's tonight and by the time I got home realized one of the burritos was wrong. I called to let them know my husband was on his way to get the correct burrito ( so they would get it started ) and they gave me a refund along with the correct burrito! I have been a fan since Tom's was on Beach Blvd. Haven't been in a while so placed an order for the fam. 3 burritos, 6 tacos, order of taquitos, 2 orders of fries, extra salsas, guacamole and chips. $134, ouch. I was willing to pay because we haves loved so long. All of the food was cold, cheese not even melted in the burritos, the salsa was so watery I had to strain and was overpowered by some spice, we think oregano - not at all how it used to be. Believe the hype! The tacos are loaded with meat, the chips are fresh and the salsa is spot on to the other place. We don't eat a lot of fried food but when we want it, this is the place to go.
