Our entire baseball team and their families came here late on a Wednesday night, on May 6, 2026, around 8:00 p.m. and had the absolute best meal and the best time and the absolute best service and there was only one cook and one server for the restaurant! I wish I knew their names because they deserve a huge raise. It did take a while, but we knew they were working as quickly as they could. We had at least ten different tables and had a couple of parents help out with refilling everyone's drinks. Each dish came out as it was ready which was the perfect way to do this, as it meant every one had a hot plate of food to eat and the boys shared their fries while the others waited for their plates. The place was clean and exceeded our expectations in every way. We gave the cook a round of applause as she headed out for the night. Ok. Ok and OK Food was ok. The pancakes were to die for. Hit the spot after being out of the country for a few months. Fluffy, vanilla notes. Service OK. Server had too many tables. She warmed to us when we showed our low maintenance and patient ways. An improvement would be serving the item we asked for as an appetizer before our main food. I've been going to this Denny's for about a year and a half and I've never had any sort of problems with this specific location. The service is good, environment is nice, what else can you ask for from a Denny's? I will say I tried a new item last time I went and it was absolutely horrid. I told the waitress 2 times I did not want bacon and of course there was bacon in it. It was extremely greasy and sloppy and I couldn't finish it. I stopped here with my family for a quick breakfast and at first I was pretty turned off. There were two hosts and one couple ahead were getting a pick up order. We patiently waited for one of the host to acknowledge that we were in line and she did not greet us nor look our way. She continued to help the other host look for an online order which likely wouldn't require two people and it didn't look like she was training. Another couple came in and was seated right away after we were waiting there for 10 minutes without being greeted or even seated...basically ignored. We had to call the host and let her know we aren't just standing in the lobby to observe and ask to be seated. Not sure what her issue was but we were then seated. My waitress was great, very welcoming and the food was alright. There were some great menu options but for my first time going to a Denny's I will not be returning unless it's the last place open. The food wasn't awful but I will say the lemonade was very sour, the steak had no flavor, the Cali club definitely needed some more mayo, and their Italian dressing is questionable. The experiences have been a mixed bag over the years at this Denny's. One or two good experiences, a few neutral, and a couple really bad ones. Unfortunately yesterday we had one of the latter. I felt like we were held hostage there... TWO HOURS start to finish to take our niece and nephews for some pancakes. I'm glad we ordered an appetizer (nachos), although we were at about an hour in when they were delivered to the table. (I DID see them in the expo window for about 10 minutes just sitting there. I said to my partner and the kids that I thought that was our nachos just sitting there but what can you do? It turned out that it WAS and they eventually made it to the table, but jeeeesh.) We devoured them because we were so hungry. It was another 20-30 minutes before our food order came out. I was ready to just walk out... we were at about an hour and a half then... we had a lot of time invested.... but the food came just as we were discussing leaving. I feel for our server and the team there. It was busy and they were doing their best to keep up, but there were not enough people working....and/or we got a very overworked server. There were some tables that were seated after us and gone before us, but maybe they just had the cojones to get up and leave when they understood the situation. Long story short, it was terrible. I don't ever want to go back and feel like I might need to get some therapy to overcome the trauma from being trapped there for so long sitting in a booth on a cushion that had a giant dent in it from being sat in too many times with a spring poking my bum. It was terrible.... but I also need to take ownership and recognize that we were not technically hostages, we COULD have gotten up and left. We just kept thinking it would get better. Silly us. Note, we've had that server before, Tracy, and when she walked up to our table I celebrated in my heart for our good fortune in getting her again. She made one of our previous experiences really great. Unfortunately this time she was having a hard time ... too many tables I'm guessing... and I don't know if I did something to offend her? I can't remember the details exactly but I asked her a question and it seemed like she was mad at me for asking. She just didn't have the bandwidth to serve or care for us. We asked for water for the kids so many times over the course of our time there and it only came towards the very end. Again, I don't hold her responsible... she was doing her best... a real trooper powering through a challenging situation with that full restaurant... and as far as I could tell, no one was helping her. I would hear the manager yell from expo "Tracy, your order is up!" "Tracy this!" "Tracy that!"!... but Tracy needed HELP. Probably all the servers did. There may have only been 3 servers, a hostess (who was also playing the role of busperson), and a manager. There was a full restaurant and a wait and it was just not fair to any of them. But again... they were doing their best. My compassion for their plight translates into a "2-star" review vs. the "1-star" it should be. The food wasn't great. We stood there waiting at the entrance for a waiter although there was plenty of tables and nobody ahead of us. They finally came to sit us down after 10 minutes. After they sat us down the waiter didn't come back until 15 minutes later and tell us 'sorry I didn't even know you guys were here until a little while ago.' We ordered our food and drinks which came in quick in comparison but the pancakes were undercooked and tasted raw inside. The Denny's that is off 70 in Selma is terrible. Three of us went for breakfast and waited for more than 15 minutes just to get something to drink. There was plenty of staff and the place was not even full. The food was mediocre and the service was terrible. Just for breakfast we were there for more than an hour. Talking to other people in line, they were equally as frustrated. There are many other places that are much better to eat breakfast at! We will not be going back. Saw the ratings of this place on google and yelp both not great but we came anyways coz we love Danny's. Well this place is great now! Here are why: 1. BEST coffee, simply the BEST. Fresh, Bold, perfect temperature. Quick and frequent refills. "It is buzzard how good the coffee is!" 2. Clean. We read reviews about sticky tables. It is totally nicely clean now. 3. Service. Service people are quick and attentive, our waitress name is Dollie, a very warm hearted lady. A manager looking gentleman quick came to the table and make sure things are alright as well. They care. 4. Foooood. Ordered all-american-slam, subbed toast to French toast, no problem with a little surcharge. Asked for extra crispy for harsh brown, and it came out Excellent! Both crunchy part and the tender part are very enjoyable. The OJ is quality juice too, you can taste the difference. French toast is also wonderful. Philly cheese omelette is satisfying. Came here with friends during a long road trip looking for lunch, but was greated with crying children, dirty tables and everything was sticky. I ordered a normal burger with no tomato. Stopped for breakfast. After waiting 20 minutes for a table (at noon on a Saturday, with COVID restrictions), waited another 20 for someone to take our order. It was then after 15 minutes we asked for our drinks. We watched our plates sit in the window until another server brought them to us. My husband was handed a bottle of syrup for his pancakes with about an inch in the bottle. My overnight eggs were still very raw, with whites running all over my plate, I wasn't able to eat them. They were clearly understaffed and unprepared...and they were running out of food items. This location is an example of why Denny's locations are closing. My husband and I had breakfast here this morning. We were seated at a table. Then the server came with a cloth and said she needed to clean the table because the night crew didn't clean the tables. When our order was brought to the table, the server asked if we needed anything else. I asked for syrup for pancakes and realized there were hash browns on my plate instead of pancakes. The server said, "That's my fault," and ran away to have an order of pancakes prepared. She returned with a plate to retrieve the hash browns, which I had already put on my husband's plate. She told the kitchen we were keeping them. I waited 10 minutes for pancakes while my eggs and bacon got cold. (Any halfway decent establishment would have taken the entire plate and brought the correct order fresh as the mistake was entirely on them.) When I got the check, I was charged for the pancakes... and not even as an add-on item for the Grand slam but full price. I asked at the register about the charge and was told since we kept the hash browns they had to charge for the pancakes. Absolutely ridiculous! I didn't get upset that she got my order wrong. Nor did I say anything about having cold eggs and bacon due to incompetence, but I refuse to be silent over being expected to pay for someone else's inability to properly do her job. The point really isn't even the few dollars. It's the principle. Any customer deserves what they ask for and pay for. I entered expecting a hot, fresh breakfast. That's not what I received. I didn't request a discount, and I refuse to pay extra for not having my expectations met. As a reviewer on Yelp, I understand that restaurants may have their off or slow days where the food is not as fresh and the management is not as attentive. However, I feel as though this particular visit was unacceptable. The waitress taking on our table was inattentive and rude about our seating placement and orders. We went around lunchtime, and it was not particularly busy that afternoon. It took close to an hour to get our food, we only had four people in the party, and our orders were not excessive or demanding. Denny's normally does not disappoint with their food most of the time, I ordered the BBQ Chicken Boneless Wings and a side of fries. The fries came unseasoned and warm-ish, and the wings were scarcely dipped in BBQ sauce.
