Great hidden gem in Clayton! I randomly found Skylines on Yelp when trying to find a new place to eat in the are and I'm glad I did. Good drinks, good food, and good service. Skylines is located in a "shopping center" type of area with a variety of other restaurants and businesses and a shared parking lot. I've been to Skylines for lunch, dinner, and brunch, and I've been pleased with my meal every time! There's a small bar area, as well as plenty of other tables and booths throughout. Not a lot of places in the area offer lunch specials and brunch menus, so I'm glad they do. The food is always fresh! I especially enjoy their artichoke dip appetizer as well! read more

As we were traveling thru North Carolina we stopped at the Skylines Cafe because it had a patio and was dog friendly. I guess because we are from SW Florida we tend to forget that not as many people are eating outside at this time of year. The servers here were more than sweet, they came out and seated us outside even though we were the only ones! Aubrey was our waitress and she was most helpful. She kept checking on us while our food was cooking. David had an IPA and a lamb burger and a side of macaroni and cheese. He couldn't stop raving about the burger. I had a cheeseburger and grilled asparagus. It was very good! So we really enjoyed all the ladies that came out to talk to us and make us comfortable. I enjoyed my crab cake sandwich and macaroni salad. We all enjoyed the Pub Fries appetizer - Yum! The hummus was delicious, too; especially with the pita bread! My daughter wasn't thrilled about her chicken buffalo wrap but loved her dessert and the pub fries. Her girlfriend enjoyed her salmon and bread pudding, as well. This place was nice! We came on a Sunday afternoon and it wasn't packed at all. The vibe is nice and cozy with 70s music playing the entire time. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. We ordered the classic burger and chicken Parmesan. The burger was delicious, the chicken was missing a little flavor but was still good when mixed with the linguini and tomato sauce. My first time visiting this establishment and I was pleasantly surprised. Was deciding between the Chicken Ciabatta and the chicken philly cheesesteak and am content with my decision. The sandwich was delicious and the fries were great on the side. Small and crispy with a great seasoning. The price was also very affordable and very reasonable for the amount of food that was provided. There was plenty of interesting art scattered around to keep my eyes wandering and it was a cozy environment. The bathrooms were also clean and well kept. From the outside this place is deceiving. When we got here I was having second thoughts because we went out for my birthday dinner and I was expecting a nice restaurant. Once we got inside it was an almost romantic atmosphere. And I say almost because the servers were talking very loudly and talking to each other from across the room. That was very annoying part of our dining experience. Their food was wonderful. We enjoyed the crab cake appetizer. I loved my soup and it came out before my meal. They offer fresh ground pepper. I had the scallop special and those scallops were cooked perfectly! I wish the risotto and asparagus portions were bigger. Thank goodness we ordered appetizers or I would still be hungry. My husbands jambalaya on the other hand was not as tasty because it was very salty!! They were out of bread. On the menu it says you have to request it. The waitress we had did offer a piece of garlic toast to my husband to see if that would help but he refused. I will say the chocolate martini was delicious. When the waitress brought it out I was confused because it was chocolate colored at all. But she had me take a sip...sure enough it was chocolate and quite yummy! I recommend this place! Nice little restaurant tucked away in a strip mall. Service friendly and helpful. Crabcake sandwich was good, though bread to crabcake proportions a little off. Off of highway 70 in Clayton in a strip mall/plaza. We came for lunch on a Sunday and they were pretty slow - great for us! The waitress was so nice and seated us right away. She suggested the Buffalo cauliflower bites to us for an appetizer and we sure did enjoy them. They were crunchy on the outside and so soft inside, and perfectly combined with the ranch. I wish was there was more with the order, so good. My husband ordered the lamb burger and I ordered the chicken ciabatta. My meal was good, moist and flavorful with a touch of sweetness from the caramelized onions. My husband's lamb burger? Oh THAT was a showstopper. So tender, juicy, and delicious! That will definitely be my next order. The prices are all very reasonable. I can definitely see us back here. Great place to grab lunch! read more

I'm very confused as to why Skylines has more than one star on Yelp. We ordered carry out and the online ordering system was great. Definite best part of our experience with this restaurant. First thing I'll say? Hair on my food. I ordered a burger and when I opened my container up the hair was just sitting nice and neat on the bun. Obviously can't eat it and certainly not driving back. I also ordered a side of risotto and a side of mac and cheese for everyone to share. Portion size was fine, I guess, but neither of these dishes had any flavor!! Completely bland, no seasoning whatsoever, they were AWFUL. The risotto appeared that it was likely prepared hours before we ordered. Like when this place opened. Pub fries? So gross. Soaked in balsamic with half melted, shredded mozzarella cheese. Calamari? Absolutely disgusting. Rubber with a light coating of breading and completely drenched in balsamic. My husband ordered a wedge salad and not even this place screwed it up, so there's your one star. My friend got the southwest pasta, it was decent but NOT. WORTH. $16, guys!! Save your money and go to the Mexican spot a few doors down. Absolute waste of money, and the hair?? This place shouldn't even be open. read more

I don't Highway 70 coming into Clayton from Smithfield. You'll find Skylines café. I have visited there several times, and the food was always good. I didn't mind waiting the extra time for the chicken Cordon Bleu one of my favorite dishes there. And the deep fried spinach interesting, the service was a little slow but understandable, they appear to be understaffed in the waitress department. All in all good place to sit down and have a meal. The ambience was OK for a nice sit down restaurant. We usually had a group of five or six and always walked away satisfied. read more

Pass on the parmigiana. Our first visit was with friends for a nice dinner. My wife order the cheese burger without a bun and it was the star of the show. Cooked perfectly and good size! The fries with it lacked a bit. None were crisp and seasoning was thin. The disappoint was my chicken parmigiana. A good chicken parm has a crispy crust, hearty sauce and generous cheese melted on top. This one was close, but they pasta was sauces with a thin watery red sauce that literally resulted in the chicken needing a swim suit. I had to ask two times for an extra plate just to keep it from drowning. I commented and showed why I needed a plate which went no further than that. I had CD a surprise party for my mom who was turning 91. There were 24 of us. We took up most of the restaurant but there were other patrons. Shonna, Hannah and Aubrey had their hands full, as did the two cooks. Every request was granted and things were done in a very timely fashion. Served with a Chipotle aolie and a quinoa salad. 10/10 Scallop dinner special, scallops cooked perfect, risotto had a sweet undertone but creamy and flavorful served with asparagus. 8/10 Jambalaya with shrimp - very flavorful, lots of salt though. 6/10 We ordered the Chocolate martini which is clear! The restaurant has a nice set up and is in a great location. It has the potential to be a local hit. However, they fail on the basics of food preparation and service. The Hamburger Steak was soaked under a very salty gravy and caramelized onions were nowhere to be found. My wife's Chicken Ciabatta was decent, so had some of hers instead of my burger The service was so-so. The waitress was very inattentive even though we were sitting right next to the bar where she was on here cell phone. I had to get up a couple of times to get her attention for more drinks or for the check. I may give them one more shot, but it won't be anytime soon. read more

Loved our experience there! Everyone was raving about their food and the waitress was so sweet! The AC didn't seem to be working so it was pretty toasty inside but they kept our drinks filled and it was a good time. Out of crab cakes so I can sea food pasta- delicious! So much better than I assumed- this place has GREAT food! My friend suggested we try Skylines Cafe. In a strip mall. Says "cafe". I immediately envision fried food diner food, typical of eastern North Carolina. WOW. I was not expecting filet mignon, lamb, swai fish, eggplant parmesan, and the best spinach salad I've had in years. Terrible experience, will not return. We had a reservation on Mother's Day and waited for 45 minutes before we left without ever being seated. The manager had multiple open tables where he refused to seat customers and elderly people had to stand without any consideration. read more

Purchased a Groupon and made the trek out to Clayton to try Skylines Cafe. Draft beer selection was SLIM and by slim I mean two. The beers on tap included Double Barley Thrilla in Vanilla and Double Barley Touche IPA (FYI, Double Barley is located 8 minutes away). Skylines also has bottles to choose from if you do not care for the draft selection. As far as the wine selection goes, I thought that it was a tad pricey for the wines that they offered but they had a good amount to choose from. For food Mom and I decided to split a few menu items: Butternut Squash Bisque - great taste and only $4, definitely recommend Beer Battered Zucchini Wedges - not a fan, if you really like fried vegetables then I think that you would like these plus they are topped with a sriracha aioli Southwest Crab Cakes - these were okay, you have the option sauteed or fried crab cakes so we went with sauteed. I was not a huge fan of the accompaniment which was a black bean and corn quinoa. Bourbon Pecan Salmon, half order - I do like that you can get a half order for a few of the menu items. The salmon had great flavor, it was served with risotto and your choice of vegetable. Creme Brulee - the custard had a fantastic flavor unfortunately it did not sit long enough and was still a bit warm and runny and the layer of hard caramel was almost too thick. Staff is very accommodating on your orders especially if you're with people who are on restricted diets. We had the homemade artichoke dip (second best after their cauliflower bites which they ran out of during our visit). Staff agreed with frying some corn tortillas in place of a gluten option (however, this is for a non-Celiac gluten intolerant individual). They used to have a crab cake Benedict (they now have a separate eggs Benedict & crab cake in their menu) but agreed for me to have the crab cake Benedict (expectedly, you'd be paying a different price). Their quiche was pretty good, too. Pair everything with their cranberry mimosa and you'd be in tipsy heaven. Covid-19 tip: come after 1:30 pm when the crowd dies. read more
