Shepherds Pie

First time here, had a shepherds pie that was just loaded with cheese, so much that when you peel it back it that's the potato's and part of the pie with it. My wife had a burger and fries. The medium rare burger came well done. The fries she asked for with no salt was loaded with salt. Don't think I'll go back.

child the picture only pretty much tells you exactly why this review is the way it is. While I do love the cheap prices and most bartenders (I spend at least a hundred or week here bc I'm here about 4-5 days a week lol), the fact they ignore an obvious racist (I have to say allegedly for libel reasons) woman say backhanded racist comments is wild to me

I'd say this is your regular pub. Decent bar food. I had the Rueben with fries and my husband had their Salmon entree. They actually gave him the option of how he wanted it cooked. We have never been asked that question but it was nice that they offered it. We had the beer cheese soup. I was excited for this!! I love beer cheese soup and it's hard to find it at restaurants. I loved they topped it with bacon and green onions, but it was not my favorite. Although my husband loved it. When you can choose between appetizers they offer a sampler which you can choose from 3 on the list. We got the chicken tender, corn dogs and mushroom. It was nice they also come with homemade chips! My daughter loves the mini corn dogs. My husband enjoyed the tiger sauce that came with the mushrooms. It's basically sour cream mixed with horseradish. And their ranch.... love their ranch!

Had an amazing all around experience! Angelica was a great bartender/server who is very attentive to detail! I highly recommend stopping at this place for drinks, food, or just for a good time.

Have been her twice now. Both times our service was impeccable. The food was excellent as well. The bottomless chips are our fave's for an appetizer. Most recently I had the shepherds pie and absolutely loved it. My wife had the Irish dip and it was awesome as well. Our waitress was fantastic and the atmosphere is amazing every time. We had a blast with friends and family. It's about an hour away but we'll worth the trip. We will be back again soon.

Ask the Community - McKinley's Restaurant & Pub

Heard this place changed owners a few years ago is this true? Used to be a "local" hangout and unless you knew someone kind of was a don't go there place. Haven't been back in many years and was just wondering if the ownership and atmosphere had…

It is , indeed a " local " bar , however that does not mean that they treat people any differently if they are not regulars. They still show you the same courtesy.

Jeff was Johnny on the spot, kept water glass filled, made great summer cocktails--Jeff you Rock! Welcoming atmosphere in a small space with large vibes. Lets get to the food. Appetizers ordered were 3 Meatballs and Mango Jalapeno Wings. Delightful to say the least. I chose Uncle Joey and my sister chose the Blackened Chicken Wrap which were awesome and very flavorful. All food was complimented by the awesome Summer Cocktails. We tried the Tropical Splash-- I just needed one really;-)--for now. All in all a very successful foray. We'll be back soon.

The parking situation is interesting, there are a few spots behind/besides the building, curb parking in front, and then a dirt area that it doesn't look like you can park in, but people do. The food is consistently good. I've had their salads, sandwiches, pizza and a few dinner specials. They also usually have several seasonal cocktails. Inside, you seat yourself and someone greets you quickly. Outside, I think they want you to make contact with a server first, and then sit down. Everyone I've encountered here has been very nice and service is quick. I make a point to stop in when in the area.

There's a story behind why I'm giving this bar 5 stars. My first experience here a few years back…read morewas so memorable that I'm probably bias, but I was just visiting Raleigh back then and wondered in here around 10pm on a Friday, found my way to the back patio and can recall to this day what I was thinking. "I think I'm starting to like this city...". The back patio that night had a vibe and look to it that I hadn't seen anywhere else in a long time; almost Austin-wierd/cool like. I ended up sitting next to a guy who was rolling his own cigarettes from a roll of Drum tobacco when I noticed he put raisins and dates in the package. We ended up talking about finer tobaccos and the art of roll your own (his experience) and my thoughts on cigars and pipe tobacco. It was a great first night in Raleigh. Now, 3 years into living here, I can say that it's lost a bit of that first impression charm but the raw ingredients are still there. The music is still awesome, the service is still very good, the patrons are equally as surprising from night to night. I would definitely call this a Raleigh staple and hope that your first time here was as good as mine.

A cool pub in an unexpected place…read more This long and narrow bar certainly comes with a lot of charm, and an impressive amount of indoor seating. I would say it definitely fits into the neighborhood and appears to be a popular local hangout. Even on a chilly day, the outdoor seating is very comfortable, feel free to take advantage of the propane heaters. The drinks are excellent, and the customer service is good, it's definitely a great place to stop for drinks. Cheers!

Disclaimer: I came here only for the smashburger, so this review is limited to that…read more If you look at reviews for this place, a lot of people compare their burger to In-N-Out. Well, the burger is not as good, and the fries are better than In-N-Out. I went for lunch, and sat at the bar. You order ahead of time, and they bring you your food. Service is pretty quick. They also have a number of house made soft drinks, which is a bonus. They have some good beers on tap, but I didn't try any. The burger was a good burger, but it didn't particularly stand out. They use potato buns, which are really nice. The patties are not especially thin, and the pickles are not the tangy type. An In-N-Out Burger is mustard fried, and they put a special sauce on, but this place doesn't do that. They do have caramelized onions like the animal style burgers. Anyhow, come here for the cocktails, sit on some nice mid-century furniture, enjoy some solid food along with your drinks, but don't come here hoping that you're going to get a burger like In-N-Out.

They have a rotating menu of specialty cocktails, some of which are very creative, some are classics, and some are choose your own adventure. They also have house made sodas if you're so inclined. The smash burger, the animals fries, and the crispy Brussels are in heavy rotation with the friends that we usually meet here. They had some pretty cool offerings for Saint Patrick's day too this year. It's overall a cutesy, friendly, and local focused business and I would argue it's a must try (at least once) when you're in Raleigh. Bonus: they have a a cute coffee shop called the Fox Hole attached.
