    Southern charm and a manhattan

I had a fantastic meal here last night and I regret not trying this place sooner! My Dad took me out for a birthday meal and we split the prime rib. The salad bar had a great selection of veggies that looked very fresh, and I appreciated the house made croutons. The complimentary bread rolls were served warm and they were fantastic! Loved they tasted like a sweet yeast roll. The prime rib piece we received was part of the end and had a nice portion of cap, which is my favorite part of a ribeye. The seasoning was perfect and I didn't even have to salt the meat it was so tasty. The twice baked potato was delicious too! Our server Michelle was wonderful! She made our meal extra special and was so attentive! We plan on going back again and trying some of the weekly specials!

The wife and I decided to celebrate Mother's day early as our weekend will be busy with multiple events. We have a desire to visit local businesses and be supportive as they sometimes get forgotten especially when we are having financial concerns nationally. We made a reservation online and upon arrival the extremely nice hostess didn't even check to see if we had one. She just started looking for an empty table and offered one in a great spot. We informed her of the reservation and she thanked us for making one and for choosing them for dinner. She along with the wait staff wanted to know if we were celebrating anything and when we said Mother's day they were very attentive to my wife and were so polite. They brought fresh bread out quickly to our table. We notice the signs sharing that the produce used was provided by local farms. Both of our steaks wagyu and prime rib were amazing. They were hit and the right temperature. The potatoes, loaded and sweet were great. We got dessert to go and will try those this evening. The staff alone made this dinner worthwhile and the great care and cook of the food has confirmed we will be back. We recommend this restaurant to anyone willing to get away for a quiet enjoyable evening. We both felt that the environment was one that encouraged you to communicate which is missing at dinner these days with the focus on cell phones. We will be back!

We went here for the first time tonight and it is amazing! Everyone was absolutely wonderful! The minute we walked in the door the hostess greeted us and sat us right away. Our waitress Amy was extremely friendly and helpful. Everything was amazing! I ordered the espresso martini and it was incredible! We will be coming back and bringing the family!

A steakhouse in Angier. Yes.. you read that correctly. We decided to stop in because I wanted a good steak. The restaurant is very nice and inviting. We were warmly greeted and seated right away. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. They told us to check their Facebook page often because they offer a variety of daily specials based on what meat they get that day. prime rib specials. We ordered an appetizer and entrees. The food was quite tasty and came out in a timely manner. When you order an entree the salad bar is included. Some entrees also have a potato option. I recommend stopping in and trying for yourself. I will definitely be back.

Stopped by Harvey Johns for brunch and it was amazing! The meats (shouts out to the butcher and the shop next door) and the flavors are delicious. The pancakes and the steak and eggs are not to be missed. Service is great and the kitchen is churning out delicious orders left and right. The brunch cocktails are tasty as well. HJ is a quaint, quality dining experience that I personally loved! Will return soon.

We went on a date night tonight and it was wonderful. My steak was cooked perfectly! The staff was very attentive and even the owner made sure our steaks were cooked to perfection. Will definitely be back!

Spinach and artichoke dip with crostinis

We were greeted immediately upon arrival, we had made a reservation online on their website. We were given bowls to visit the included salad bar and presented with bread as soon as we sat down. We ordered a Chianti from their extensive wine menu that had wonderful choices. We started with the spinach and artichoke dip, it was so good, I didn't get a photo before we had all dug in! I ordered the filet, while my mother in law ordered the waygu, and my husband ordered the bacon wrapped bacon pork loin. Every entree comes with your choice of potato, mashed or baked, we ordered one of each. To end, we got the cheesecake sampler and it was fantastic. Our server was very nice, didn't come by very often but it wasn't necessary to, we had several people checking on us regularly. The owner, John, came by our table to chat with us and ask how everything was. Our answer, INCREDIBLE! Everything from the salad and bread to our appetizer and entrees was a hit. It's a family style, barn-esq interior with an open floor plan. It isn't noisy at all, perfect for a family outing or a date night. We were very impressed and will be back!

    Anniversary Dinner

We went for an anniversary dinner- salad bar was AMAZING! Service was really good given they were down 2 servers but we didn't feel left out at all. Food was delicious- NY Strip is the way to go. They even took our picture and had a sign for our anniversary.

    I'd say that's medium!!

Great addition to the quaint town of Angier. Harvey Johns Steakhouse is located to the right of the Angier Meat Market, which, yep....you guessed it, "they get their meat from." Parking is in the same strip mall. I'd recommend calling ahead just to be safe. There's ample seating inside with a small bar top and a few outdoor bar top tables with tower heaters. The inside decor is nice with the wooden accents. The coated concrete floor and high ceilings don't help to deaden sound much, but it's not a deterrent. The staff are all very nice and I commend the front of the house, all female staff. They were great! Food!! I'm not big on pork, but their pork chop description made me crack a sly grimace, haha. And it looks as good as it sounds. The chop sets atop a good-sized portion of risotto (it's not a thin chop either). The risotto was a little miss tonight, not as cooked through, but meh.....risotto is so finicky and usually hit or miss. It paired very well with the pork chop. I ordered the NY Strip, medium. It came out just right. The cut was nice and came out with a slight sear. You get the option to top it with either garlic - herb grass-fed compound butter or Roasted bone marrow gravy , yes.....I did just that . The steaks all come with a potato option, I chose "creamy garlic mashed potatoes". Good sized portion piped onto the plate accompanied by great flavor and texture. Upon being seated, you'll be served salad bowls and rolls (1 per patron). The salad bar is a small bar along the front wall. Rather, uncomfortable salad bar as it sits low. The items were all nice and fresh, but I'm sure it's funny watching taller folks make a salad. The rolls ended up not being eaten; pretty dry. Don't seem in-house made. These were the only 2 "meh's" we had. We look forward to seeing Harvey Johns develop and thrive as it is a great addition to Angier.

Back again, this time for dinner. Thought we would try the wagyu ribeye filet with bacon wrapped asparagus, etc, only to learn it was not offered. The FB post we saw didn't state the timing of the selection. Anyway, my guy wanted to try the wagyu, so we opted for the steak on the menu. He enjoyed it and the mashed potatoes. Their salad bar is fresh and has ample offerings. I had the BBQ salmon. Personally, I would prefer just grilled with salt pepper. I don't need special toppings. Their offering of roasted pepper salsa AND BBQ sauce was over the top. I scrapped both off the salmon. The BBQ was a bit sweet. I substituted the cream corn for grilled veggies (zucchini and yellow squash), they were seasoned nicely and had a good char. Brandon, our server was handling the entire dining room and did a fine job of educating us on the restaurant and menu, as well as keeping our drinks refilled and checking on us. Even with a table of 12 near us, he seemed to be at ease with everything. The atmosphere is warm, and decor is a subtle steakhouse, with not feeling too pretentious. Some guests were casual, some were a bit dressed up. But it all works. Let's continue to support local!

Along the wall by the cashier, they offer to go treats, dark chocolate bars, beef jerky's, cheese bites, high end chips... the pastry display will soon be packed with other goodies that they get delivered. Right now, they have muffins, lemon bars. I also saw a deli meat since they will be serving charcuterie too. By the back door to the patio, they sell bottled drink of all sorts, some I've never seen. The wine area, located to the right side can be closed off for private events or other events. They will offer wine tasting, bottle that you can purchase whether cold or room temp. I've never met them before but she is the warmest being. She gave us a tour, explained to us how they operate and that soon she will be posting events located above the building where you can enter at the door with an awning 2a. Also, soon, if you are seating outside in the back, you can tap at the small window to order a drink. How convenient is that? Right now, please be patient as they still work out all the kinks to perfect their spot. It is a nice place to go while we wait for our children doing sports near by.

In the picture you can see one showing the burnt side and I turned the other one over to check the other side. There was a kale slaw type salad that was just ok. Had lots of onion in it which I don't prefer. The fries were not good at all. Limp, no flavor. I only ate two and gave up. We went to Publix and got a frozen pizza and went home and cooked it. I watched the waiters speaking and laughing and joking with other tables around us while we sat with our baby. My husband and I, I mean just we, sat together and did the entire word search and all the other games on the kids menu before even being greeted by a server. We finished all the games on the menu without a server greeting us still or getting us water or anything to the point where a table got sat right behind us and within less than a minute a server was at their table taking their drink orders. It should be noted that "All items can be made gluten free". This place checked off our "boxes". My first observation after being seated, was their coffee machine; it's Lavazza coffee!!!! One of the best Italian coffees you'll find; that's all my family buys. The owner Larry, stated "people say there's 2 absolute favorites that people come back for, the coffee and............the bacon". We agree that not only is the coffee an obvious winner, but the bacon.....OHHHHH THEEeee Bacon!!!! I've recently completed cancer treatments, which has caused me to struggle with food, and found that my tastebuds are quick to alert me to high salts, nitrites/nitrates, msg, basically chemicals. Well, Famous Toastery was my very first breakfast out (2nd meal) in over 7 months and not 1 time did i put the bacon down; or anything for that matter. Nice hearty, meaty, non sizzle on your tounge bacon!! Due to my condition, i didn't "eggspect" to find much on the menu that i'd be able to enjoy but, once i saw the all time classic breakfast it was game on. The "First Responder", comes with 3 scrammbled eggs with cheddar, served with bacon and sausage. You can request "egg whites" for $1. Each item under the "Eggs" list come with your choice of breakfast potatoes, grits, or fruit, and a choice of toast. Along with this, i ordered the "Famous French Toast", which is 3 slices of Texas toast ligjtly dusted with powdered sugar. Ok, you ready for the syrup!?!? Real.....Maple.....Syrup. No high fructose sludge!!! Lastly, the orange juice. Ladies & Gentlemen, Famous Toastery squeezes their OJ, fresh to order! C'mon, How can you not start to love this place already? Secondly, we ordered the Meditteranean Quesadilla, which was on the specials menu. Wow, that was a delicious choice. Scrammbled eggs, feta, pepper jack, cheddar, spinach, onions, and roasted peppers inside a grilled tortilla, with a side of salsa and sour cream. This is not a flimsy, thin quesadilla. It's also not too thick, but it was juuuuust right. If you're not in the mood for breakfast, they also have sandwiches and wraps. While talking with Larry, i mentioned seeing they have a "Reuben" on the menu. Well, Larry peaked my interest by stating "they cook their corn beef DAILY...... in house!!!!!!!! Omg yesssssssss!! Also offered as a substitue, if you're not a corn beefer, is roasted turkey! I could keep going but, you've read enough if you got this far . Now, take your hungry appetite on down to Famous Toastery, in Fuquay-Varina, and get your grub on! They are located in the same shopping center as Kohls, so no worries on parking as they have plenty!!

Famous Toastery has a lot of potential, but the overall experience can be frustrating. The food is…read moreokay--nothing particularly memorable, but decent enough if you're just looking for a casual breakfast or brunch. Where things fall short is the service. It tends to be slow, and getting your server's attention can be a challenge. Paying the bill ends up feeling like a project, with long waits just to close out. If service improved, it would make a big difference, but as it stands, the experience doesn't quite match the expectations.
