No, they seem to wanna charge on the higher end as if they were in Preston. the salad bar takes forever to get through and obviously there's no exhaust to pull the smoke out of the building the time we were done eating it was a thick haze that you were walking through. I had a fantastic meal here last night and I regret not trying this place sooner! My Dad took me out for a birthday meal and we split the prime rib. The salad bar had a great selection of veggies that looked very fresh, and I appreciated the house made croutons. The complimentary bread rolls were served warm and they were fantastic! Loved they tasted like a sweet yeast roll. The prime rib piece we received was part of the end and had a nice portion of cap, which is my favorite part of a ribeye. The seasoning was perfect and I didn't even have to salt the meat it was so tasty. The twice baked potato was delicious too! Our server Michelle was wonderful! While Angier might not be the first place you think of finding a good steak house, Harvey Johns is a solid choice and worth a visit. We celebrated a special occasion on a Friday evening and were pleased. The hostess started things out very positively by going above and beyond to seat us in a booth. She checked in a couple of times during our meal to insure that we were having a great experience. It was much appreciated. The salad bar doesn't have a huge selection of ingredients, but it is very fresh and kept well stocked. It was the quintessential steak house salad bar. Skip the dinner rolls; they tasted like something from the grocery store bakery and weren't very good. We both tried the Wagyu ribeye. It was very nice: cooked exactly as ordered with a nice sear on the outside. The steak was very flavorful and tender as Wagyu should be. It was excellent and a very reasonable value for $69. The accompanying salt-rubbed baked potato was excellent as well. The restaurant offered two dessert choices: a flight of cheese cake samples or a chocolate cake. We chose the chocolate cake and received a mammoth slab of cake covered in white icing. It was good but nothing exceptional. I wish there had been at least one additional dessert choice to choose from. Service for the rest of our meal was fine. Our drinks ran dry but were eventually refilled. The kitchen did a good job serving our meals at just the right time. The restaurant is attractively decorated inside, but it can't hide its heritage as a prefab metal building. There's a thrift store next door which creates a dichotomy for a restaurant serving $69 steaks. We will return to Harvey Johns Steakhouse the next time we're in the mood for a steak. read more

The wife and I decided to celebrate Mother's day early as our weekend will be busy with multiple events. We have a desire to visit local businesses and be supportive as they sometimes get forgotten especially when we are having financial concerns nationally. We made a reservation online and upon arrival the extremely nice hostess didn't even check to see if we had one. She just started looking for an empty table and offered one in a great spot. We informed her of the reservation and she thanked us for making one and for choosing them for dinner. She along with the wait staff wanted to know if we were celebrating anything and when we said Mother's day they were very attentive to my wife and were so polite. They brought fresh bread out quickly to our table. We notice the signs sharing that the produce used was provided by local farms. Both of our steaks wagyu and prime rib were amazing. They were hit and the right temperature. The potatoes, loaded and sweet were great. We got dessert to go and will try those this evening. The staff alone made this dinner worthwhile and the great care and cook of the food has confirmed we will be back. We recommend this restaurant to anyone willing to get away for a quiet enjoyable evening. My parents recently moved to the area, and one thing we all agree on is a love for a great steak. So when they heard about Harvey John's--and their $45 Tuesday prime rib special--they tried it and loved and brought me while I was visiting. We made a rookie mistake: no reservation. Day before Christmas Eve. The only table available was by the door, which, for us, is a hard no. It was already chilly outside, and sitting by the door means constant drafts, tense shoulders, and food cooling faster with every opening. Not ideal, especially when you're settling in for a proper steak dinner. To their credit, the hostess tried everything--even showing us the reservation layout for the evening. The owner came over personally, and in the end, our options were simple: take the door table or come back at 7:30 pm when more tables would open. We were hungry, but we chose comfort over impatience. My dad left his number just in case a table opened sooner. We went home, had light snacks, and--surprise--got a call at 6:55 pm. Not only was a table available, it was a booth. That alone told me everything I needed to know about how they run this place. Stellar Client Care. When we returned, the owner John Linderman,met us at the door--warm, apologetic, and genuinely appreciative that we came back. The entire staff operates like a well-oiled team, with hospitality that feels intentional rather than performative. It's been a good while since I experienced an owner manager stop by every table to check in. A gesture from better dining times. Now, the food. We ordered: * Stuffed Shrimp with crab meat * Sausage bombs * Prime rib * A tomahawk ribeye to split I don't know if Harvey John's is officially farm-to-table, but the steak tasted incredibly clean--like actual beef. As a native New Yorker living in Los Angeles, I've eaten at many top-tier steakhouses--BOA, Ruth's Chris, Musso & Frank, Nick & Stef's, Steak 48--and I can confidently say this tomahawk was more flavorful and tasted fresher than all of them. Who knew a small-town North Carolina steakhouse would deliver a truly high-end experience? I'm no chef, but I do have a refined palate, and this meal was memorable. Honestly? If Michelin ever looks this way, they should take note. They weren't cooked to medium well like requested more medium, but that wasn't what really disappointed us. Our biggest issue was our server was terrible. She was too busy talking to people at the bar or the cooking staff or wandering around looking out the door. We were greeted immediately upon arrival, we had made a reservation online on their website. We were given bowls to visit the included salad bar and presented with bread as soon as we sat down. We ordered a Chianti from their extensive wine menu that had wonderful choices. We started with the spinach and artichoke dip, it was so good, I didn't get a photo before we had all dug in! I ordered the filet, while my mother in law ordered the waygu, and my husband ordered the bacon wrapped bacon pork loin. Every entree comes with your choice of potato, mashed or baked, we ordered one of each. To end, we got the cheesecake sampler and it was fantastic. Our server was very nice, didn't come by very often but it wasn't necessary to, we had several people checking on us regularly. Great addition to the quaint town of Angier. Harvey Johns Steakhouse is located to the right of the Angier Meat Market, which, yep....you guessed it, "they get their meat from." Parking is in the same strip mall. I'd recommend calling ahead just to be safe. There's ample seating inside with a small bar top and a few outdoor bar top tables with tower heaters. The inside decor is nice with the wooden accents. The coated concrete floor and high ceilings don't help to deaden sound much, but it's not a deterrent. The staff are all very nice and I commend the front of the house, all female staff. They were great! Food!! I'm not big on pork, but their pork chop description made me crack a sly grimace, haha. And it looks as good as it sounds. The chop sets atop a good-sized portion of risotto (it's not a thin chop either). The risotto was a little miss tonight, not as cooked through, but meh.....risotto is so finicky and usually hit or miss. It paired very well with the pork chop. I ordered the NY Strip, medium. It came out just right. The cut was nice and came out with a slight sear. You get the option to top it with either garlic - herb grass-fed compound butter or Roasted bone marrow gravy , yes.....I did just that . The steaks all come with a potato option, I chose "creamy garlic mashed potatoes". Good sized portion piped onto the plate accompanied by great flavor and texture. Upon being seated, you'll be served salad bowls and rolls (1 per patron). The salad bar is a small bar along the front wall. Rather, uncomfortable salad bar as it sits low. The items were all nice and fresh, but I'm sure it's funny watching taller folks make a salad. The rolls ended up not being eaten; pretty dry. Don't seem in-house made. A party of five, for Saturday night Dec 6 th, we made a reservation for 6:30 pm, and were warmly greeted by a very nice gentleman and immediately seated. Our waitress promptly brought ice waters, menus, and returned 30 seconds later to take drink orders. They have a full bar, and about twelve handcrafted cocktails. I ordered a Manhattan, the spirits nicely balanced with some citrus and a marinated cherry. Others ordered beer, Gin and T's. The restaurant was full, but we were given a nice private table booth, and felt cozy and looked after. Our waitress was great. Right there! We all went to the salad bar, with 32 ounce deep square bowls. Fresh romaine, lovely ripe cut cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, pickled items.....a nice selection, everything super crisp and fresh. At the end of the bar are carafes with pourable dressings, the Caesar was very nicely made, garlicky, creamy. Croutons are at the end. It's not a huge salad bar, but works. The bowls hold so much fresh goodness. But back to the table for the main event. We ordered mains, Waygu topped with lobster, crabcakes, Filet mignon, and wine Obsidian Cabernet Sauvignon. Back again, this time for dinner. Thought we would try the wagyu ribeye filet with bacon wrapped asparagus, etc, only to learn it was not offered. The FB post we saw didn't state the timing of the selection. Anyway, my guy wanted to try the wagyu, so we opted for the steak on the menu. He enjoyed it and the mashed potatoes. Their salad bar is fresh and has ample offerings. I had the BBQ salmon. Personally, I would prefer just grilled with salt pepper. I don't need special toppings. Their offering of roasted pepper salsa AND BBQ sauce was over the top. I scrapped both off the salmon. The BBQ was a bit sweet. I substituted the cream corn for grilled veggies (zucchini and yellow squash), they were seasoned nicely and had a good char. Brandon, our server was handling the entire dining room and did a fine job of educating us on the restaurant and menu, as well as keeping our drinks refilled and checking on us. This steak was delicious. I have never had a real "prime" prime rib before this week. Incredible. I'm a 99% unapologetic filet fan girl. But I thought I would give this a try. I could barely eat half this steak!! The prices are so reasonable for the steak quality, service and sides included. We moved from Texas where we ate steak at least weekly at Saltgrass Steakhouse, Outback, Texas Road House etc. This restaurant is the best. What a great place in good ol' Angier! It was great dining at the new restaurant in our area. It's hard finding anything in the area, let alone, a nicer place. It's right beside the butcher market and it was easy to find with their pretty lights on the roof. Below I'll go into detail of our great experience that left us wanting to come back with even more folks! Food: We really enjoyed everything we received! They came to the table right away with a fresh parker house roll with falvorful butter. The salad bar had a few more options and variety than other salad bars I've been to in the past, but everything was very fresh! The orzo pasta salad was very flavorful! I hope that's always on the salad bar. We also ordered the special appetizer of the night, which was the spinach and artichoke dip with grilled pitas. The portion was HUGE. We were nearly full from our salads and appetizer before our meal arrived. It was very fresh and had tons of spinach in it. We would get it again. For our entrees, we ordered the herbed chicken dish and the filet. The chicken dish was probably one of the best ones I've ever had at a steakhouse. I don't eat beef, so it's sometimes a hit or a miss when ordering other meat options at a steakhouse. Not with Harvey Johns! The skin was crispy and flavorful throughout the meat and the risotto underneath was cooked to perfection! My husband ordered the filet and mashed potatoes. They came to the table and torched the butter right in front of us. The steak was cooked perfectly and my husband was able to cut the steak with a fork. He said the mashed potatoes were a little thinner than what he prefers, but the flavor was good. We were too full for dessert but they had a few options if you wanted something sweet at the end of your meal. Overall, the food was incredible. The menu is smaller, but they are still learning what menu items need to be on rotation or permanent. Food was a 9/10! Drinks: We ordered two drinks while we were dining. The Gentleman John vodka cocktail and the Pops Old Fashioned. The Gentleman John was the perfect tea cocktail. It tasted like summer in a cup. It had vodka, peach liqueur, tea, and lemon. Almost like a twisted tea, but way fresher. My husband got the Pops Old Fashioned. He did end up having to send it back because it was overly sweet. We didn't see on the menu that they also had a regular old fashioned. He prefers less sweet drinks, so that was kinda on us, but they took it off the bill and got him a different drink. They were very understanding! The next drink he ordered was perfect and he really enjoyed it. Drinks were a 8/10! Service: The service was outstanding! From the greeters, servers, runners, and even the owner. Everyone was really friendly and professional. Our server always refilled our drinks, asked if we had any questions, and cleared our table when necessary. The owner/chef came by the check in to see if everything was cooked right. He was friendly and very appreciative of the kind words and business. Service was a 10/10! Atmosphere: This is a very small place for a steakhouse. We luckily went on a weeknight, but I have a feeling when more people learn how good the restaurant is, there will always be a long wait. I think I counted around 20 tables, most of them seating only 4 people. I hope they stick around, but they might have to relocate if their popularity increases. For now, expect a longer wait in the evenings, especially on the weekends. They do have a bar window that is available outside while you're waiting for your table, which is really nice if the wait is longer! Atmosphere was a 7/10! Price: Many are saying that the prices are too high. Coming from someone who loves to try new restaurants, including steakhouses, I think the prices are spot on. At most upscale restaurants you have to pay for drinks, appetizers, salads, entrees, and sides completely separate. Here, you get a salad bar, entree and potato side all included in the price. The only place that does anything similar is Angus Barn, which is nearly an hour away from this location and is more expensive. Cocktail prices were in line with every other nice restaurant too. I'm fine with paying good money for good quality, and this place had the perfect match for the price vs quality given. Price was a 9/10! Overall: Amazing first experience here. From the staff, food, and overall quality, you can't beat it in this area. We can't wait to return, order new menu additions, and bring others with us. When we called ahead, the hostess assured us that the portions were generous and the food was excellent.
