It's where we found the chicken fried steak with gravy, and two sides. All for $9.99. The chicken fried steak was actually pretty good, a smaller lunch portion which is appreciated, and it tasted well. I chose the steamed broccoli and mashed potatoes, add gravy, and it all was great. There are other items on the 55+ menu including some breakfast items, so it's a deal that's hard to beat especially here. read more

Come here daily for breakfast daily while in Hawaii and wasn't disappointed. I was on here for Honeymoon week and our hotel, while in a nice area, did not have free breakfast or any breakfast of any type. Because we had to wake up early for excursions and couldn't be stuck behind lines for some of the other breakfast options, this was our go-to spot. By the end of the week, most of the staff knew who we were. Service was great and the food is fresh. Normally I wouldn't be a Denny's fan, but the food was just really good. Trio had visited this location three times for breakfast. Each time we've had a different server and sat in a different area either at a table or booth. We may have to wait at least 15 to 30 minutes on weekends or holidays. At this location, write your name and number of people in your party on sign in sheet clipboard located on counter. There's a section of cushioned seats in the waiting area. If lobby is full, wait outside. If waiting outiside, I highly recommend checking sign in sheet periodically so you don't miss your turn. I was super hungry and ordered Southwestern Benny Breakfast. Chorizo hidden inside the perfectly made eggs Benedict delivered spicy. Hold off the Tapatio. Not necessary. Creaminess from egg yolk soothed spicy palate and complemented crispy hash browns. I ate everything. I also craved for sweet and asked for Ala Carte Strawberry Stuffed French Toast. SIightly crispy on the edges. Structure held up and coated well with egg batter. Coconut syrup around edges, sliced strawberries, strawberry syrup and powder sugar paired well with French toast. This is the best Denny's I've been to so far in life! I was staying down the street during vacation and my husband and I wanted something affordable, tried, and true. We came late morning during a weekday and were seated right away. The restaurant was full which was a good sign. Our server was so awesome and sweet - she made us feel like family. She even helped me not order the wrong thing - I wanted waffles and didn't read the menu clearly to see that they did not make Belgian waffles. She made sure to tell me that the waffles were pretty small and that it's probably better to order at least 2 to feel satisfied. I'm so glad I listened because the waffles were indeed smaller than expected. The waffles tasted super good too. I didn't even use much syrup. read more

This review is about the Denny's Restaurant at 208 Kapahulu Avenue. Normally, I visit the Denny's located at 205 Lewers which is closer to where I live but from time to time, I visit the Denny's on Kapahulu, because it is newer and spacious. From when it first opened, it always seems to have issues with customer service. They seem to be short of servers all the time. A few days ago, when I visited, the server that I got seemed nice but when it was time to order, she seemed a bit impatient. I am a disabled person (partially deaf plus neurological issues) when she took my order, during the ordering, the dish I picked came with two sides. My two sides were rice and red potatoes. But, at some point, she asked me what type of rice I wanted and I guess because of my loss of hearing on one ear, I did not understand so I answered about the red potatoes but she said "I know about the potatoes, I am asking what type of rice!" It is not so much as to what she said but how rudely she said it. My friend who was with me, immediately let her know that I was partially deaf. She then, got really upset and walked away and told the other server to take over our table. What she did not do was tell the server that she had not completely taken all the orders so we waited and waited until I walked over to the server who was going to continue being our server. At that point, the Manager on duty came and took over and waited on us while we dined at the restaurant. She was really nice and really made the experience nicer Now the reason I am here writing this review is because, it appears that if you have a disability of any kind, this server isn't patient enough to deal with people with disabilities like myself who's partially deaf. I am sure being a server is not easy but in my opinion, just because one does not hear well, does not see well, walk well, is in a wheel chair, walk with a cane, none of those reasons should be reasons to disrespect anyone. I walked over to talk to her very calmly because I don't like to make scenes or try to cause waves or try to get free stuff. As a retired person from the medical field, I do not need to cause scenes to get free things. All I expect is good service and patience. I also must point out that the restaurant was not busy at all when I went to eat so it is not as if our server was slammed with customers. I hope that the owner of this Denny's tells his servers to be more patient with all types of customers and also I hope he hires more servers since they are always having issues with servers. I don't know what the issue is. It has been that way since it opened. The restaurant is awesome, spacious with good food, great prices for Waikiki and a menu that is not based on noodles, sushi or some type of Asian concoction. I love Asian food but not everyday if I was on vacation. It has been my experience about this location that many of the staff are rude, untrained, impatient and it has a high turnover. We keep giving it a chance since it is away from the busy touristy feeling of Waikiki, plus, sometimes, we want to eat comfort food. But, we always have a dissapointing experience at this location. read more

Dueling music with classic live Hawaiian music at the hotel's Grill near the pool but music was at volume 10 (how folks could eat listenin to a show at that volume?) but it was competing with the private promotional event (invite only) playing house music next door before Monkeypod...oh my head and my hearing! I feel like I haven't been to Denny's in forever. It's been that long. The T-Mobile Tuesday app had an offer of 70% off their Original Grand Slam. Alright, they got me and I decided to go. Our server was Cierra (sp), she told me her name but didn't have a name tag on. She was the best and told me that that location was the only one on the island open 24 hrs. I got a strawberry shake to go with my grand slam. The Original Grand Slam comes with two eggs, two strips of bacon, two pieces of sausage and two pancakes. Everything was on point. My over easy eggs were perfect and my bacon was crispy. The pancakes were light and fluffy. I didn't have high hopes for the milkshake, but that came out perfect as well. They even brought me the leftover that couldn't fit in the glass in a metal cup. I wasn't expecting that. I'm not sure how other items taste at Denny's, but it's five stars for my grand slam and milkshake. It's also five stars for the service I got. Cierra was on top of everything. read more

My friends and I came to Denny's after our GNO - idk why we chose to come to Denny's at like 3am. SERVICE It was horrible. Our waiter was impatient, rude, and blunt. When we first got seated, he didn't greet us in a friendly way, and he didn't even ask us like how we were or anything. He simply put the menu down, and said nothing. Then he goes to a table near by, with at least a groups of 10 people, and he goes and wait them. Anyway, after they paid and left, he said out loud, talking smack about that table about how they were the worst table, people, and talked about their tip. Like damn dude, so RUDE. You don't complain out loud about other customers like that. Then return to us, with the same attitude. Then when we ordered our food, he rushed us, and didn't even take the time explain some items we were unsure about. Overall, the customer service was HORRIBLE. FOOD Coffee was alright. It was nice that they had French vanilla flavored cream. The make it your own omelette was bleh. I took like 6 bites of it, and majority of it was egg, no veggies. It had no taste whatsoever too. Me and my family of 6 waited in the front to be seated and the woman at the front was extremely rude. I told her table for 6 and she said "How much children" and confused I said "uuhh do you mean, if we need a high chair?" And she quickly cut me off and said "How much under 10?" with a snarky attitude. I told her "oh just 1". She grabbed the utensils and menus and never told us to follow her. She asked if we wanted a booth or a table and I said booth. She walked to the back without saying anything so we were hesitant to walk back. I walked a little to the tables to peak over and see if she wanted us to follow and a tall black girl who was working in the kitchen YELLED AT US, "OH SHES NOT READY, SHES NOT READY, SHES NOT READY" and we turned around to sit back in the front and the lady at the front said "no I am ready". The black girl just said, "oh" while everyone was looking at us. No apologies for yelling at me and my family and embarrassing us when she was CLEARLY in the wrong. The lady with our menus was wiping our tables clean and rudely told us to sit down so she can push the tables in. The lady who sat us and the black girl in the back are both lucky I didn't cuss both of them out for treating us like that. Our server was very sweet and we tipped her 20%. Waited for 10 mins before server took our order. We ordered the lumberjack slam and the breakfast country fried steak and 2 coffee. I like the thick rimmed mug and the coffee so I was off to a good start. Food arrived and then I realized why I haven't been back for 20 years. Quality of food hasn't improved much as I remembered it. Feeding picky children can truly complicate a vacation. The waitstaff here on every shift is pleasant and very focused on making your meal a good experience for those little darlings!
