Very convenient location. Nice selection of things I need. Nice, friendly staff....except for Bonnie. She's grumpy, doesn't greet anyone, doesn't say thank you to customers after they've purchased something. After my purchase, I told her "thank you" and she mumbled "uh, huh" and didn't even look my way. Gee, Bonnie, thanks for the privilege of shopping at your store. You don't have to be all "sunshine & rainbows", but if you worked at MY store, I'd expect you to be pleasant, and thank customers. read more

This review is a condensed synopsis of my experience. And I want to make it very clear that my dissatisfaction is because of the attitude of the woman at the register and the store's return policy. I attempted to return a faucet cartridge puller that failed because part of it was made of plastic and had sheered off at it's end. They refused to accept it because I damaged it by cranking it too tight. A male employee said it was "FRAGILE" I don't need fragile plastic tools. I need tools that do the job. I purchased an all metal cartridge puller at Home Depot that got the job done. I asked them once again to refund my money for this substandard part and they again refused. I then told the woman that they had lost a customer. Her reply was, "Well, that's okay" I make no apologies that I turned around and told her "You will not get anywhere with a smart-ass attitude like that. This review is not based on the Store itself. This review has to do with the guy they hired to do knife sharpening. I spent 45 dollars for blades that were folded over and only appeared sharp. One use and a wash and they were dull again. The store itself has great customer service and is always able to answer my questions. Great staff! But they have been duped to think this guy Micah is a professional knife sharpener. DO NOT LET THEM RUIN YOUR BLADES! read more

We love True Value! Since we bought our home a few years back less than a mile away, this has been our go to place in terms of products, as well as home improvement advice! A beautiful alternative to Home Depot, True Value has what you need, as well as the knowledge to install it and make the most out of an odd situation with an older home! This place rules because you get old-fashioned service... Seems like everyone that works there is age 55+, but that is a good thing. Everyone is super helpful and it's great having a local hardware store in the village. This place is saved me so many trips driving to the other two big box hardware emporiums. read more

I WILL NEVER COME BACK TO THIS STORE! I just bought $20 in packing tape. A few hours later I came to return it to get my money back because I purchased the wrong kind. I paid in all in cash except $1.63 from a leftover gift card. The tape was UNOPENED and I had ORIGINAL RECEIPT. They gave me such a hard time!! They said I had to go home and get my empty gift card I had thrown away because they can only load it back onto the original gift card and when I said I was not going to go home they said there was no other way. I then demanded to speak to a manager because let me remind you that I had the receipt and the products were unopened. He said he could load the money all on a gift card and thats it. I finally said fine because I had already been there for 10 minutes. After that he couldn't find a gift card, then he had to photocopy all my info, then he had to go and find a hole punch because for some stupid reason they have to hole punch the gift card after they activate it. do I go to Home Depot? yup, necessarily as De Nault's doesn't carry lumber. But it's my first choice for needed repair items. Sure, they're a bit more than the HD, but they're closer and they're my neighbors. Also my customers. So it's worth spending my $$ to help insure they stay in the village. read more

I have shopped at De Naults for years and have had positive experiences. However, today they lost me as a customer. I bought a bike lock for my grandson yesterday and spent a total of $100.00 on it and other household items. Today he used it successfully 3 times but ran into trouble when he couldn't unlock it at the 7-11 nearby. My grandson, son-in-law and I were treated very rudely as we tried to problem solve. I drive by Lowe's and Home Depot every day on my way home from work, but choose to support local businesses. What a missed opportunity for De Naults to support the local community that supports them and keeps them in business. That would have been a positive story that would have been repeated as much as this negative experience will be and with quite a different result. I live in the Village and all my friends and neighbors shop at De Naults. Believe me, they will hear about my experience today. And I guarantee Home Depot's response to us would have been quite different. We will be loyal customers of Home Depot exclusively from now on. Oh, and by the way, De Naults, as a family we have over 50 years of management retail experience and know what true customer service is! read more
