I wish I could give 0 stars for the service we received. We were shopping for xmas trees. They had none on display, so we asked if we could just look into the box to see the branches. He barely cracked the box open and I asked if we bought it, looked at it and if it wasn't what we're looking for, could we bring it right back and return. His response was, what am I supposed to do with it if you brought it back? He then said it can't be returned. It's a $450 tree! We went to 4S Commons Ace location not far from there and had a GREAT experience with friendly staff who had bothered to put trees on display for their customers. She told us all Ace locations are supposed to accept tree returns until 12/15. Some folks are kind to kind people and others are unkind just because they can be. We don't visit the large home supply stores anymore, and have been using Ace Hardware for several years. My old weedeater cord feed broke and the replacement part is no longer available. So I stopped by our Ace Store, picked out a new Craftsman weed-eater. The clerk told me that I could pick out another Craftsman tool on that display as a gift. I chose a finish sander. Knowledgable and helpful employees, affordable prices, excellent stock. We don't need to wander around the big stores looking for a helpful employee only to find out that we would have to order a part that they didn't carry in the store. read more

They did not have in stock the cleaner to remove permanent marker from my car paint, and I asked a male employee if i tried 1 squirt of the cleaner they did have in stock, and if 1 single squirt didnt work, if i could bring it back to return. He laughed and said no. I thought he was being sarcastic at first, then realized he was serious. So no returns at this store? Okay. I wont shop here even if you have it in stock. Experienced the best customer service ever at this Ace Hardware. Cannon who greeted us at the door was friendly, kind and filled with knowledge. He spent over 20 minutes patiently helping us solve all our needs. Disappointment is an understatement! Today, I tried to return a product(can of spray wall texture) due to it being defective(stopped working about 1/2 way through. The can was $24, and although Lowes sells this same product for $22, I had purposely purchased it ACE to support the newly re-opened store. The store manager told me it was their policy not to accept anything opened or used for return even if it was defective, and please reach out to the manufacturer for replacement. Are you kidding me? I know for sure Lowes & Home Depot would accept and manage that return of mine without incident. Maybe now I know why they closed before. read more

I bought a fan at an ACE store in San Diego, at the time of purchase I asked about the return policy, they told me 30 days from purchase with receipt. Today I wanted to return the fan because it did not have the output I was looking for. I went to this ACE store in Escondido and was told to go back to the ACE 16 miles away in San Diego if I want to return it! This is why you buy at a big store like Home Depot or Lowes so you can return it to any of there stores with no questions asked!!! ACE is too small to have that kind of policy from store to store. read more

Purchased a Weber Spirit Grill last November, as an assembled floor model, without discount. Went to Ace specifically to have a unit assembled and delivered. Used grill less than 5 times, and in August a wheel assembly fell off. Through Weber warranty, received replacement screws. Each wheel assembly requires 4 screws. Ace only used 1, and it fell out! Spoke to store manager twice with no recourse. Next time will purchase from Costco. They understand customer service. read more

Do not buy a Big Green Egg here! They are listed as an authorized dealer on Big Green Egg's website but they will not do a warranty replacement for you. The reason that BGE's are so expensive is because of the lifetime warranty. I purchased my BGE back in 2006 from an Ace Hardware but moved away several years ago. I came in to this Ace Hardware to do a warranty replacement for a covered part and they told me that's something that you do thru Big Green Egg not us. It is very clear on the warranty that any authorized dealer can replace parts for you and they are my closest BGE dealer. They said we can't find the part and basically told me to pound sand. They sell BGE's at this store but they won't take care of the warranty. Please support a local business by buying a BGE that will also take care of your warranty. read more

I stopped at the Ace Hardware store this morning to see if they carried a type of putty used to secure objects during an earthquake. The clerk had no idea what I was talking about but instead of just telling me they do not carry that item he said I should speak English better. As a PhD graduate of UC Berkeley and a college professor I can well assure you my English is not the issue. The store has a big closing store sign on the side so I decided to stop in and see what they had to offer. They have a lot of signs showing whatever % off but they did not appear to be any cheaper then anywhere else I looked at for comparison. Here on Yelp they say their hours are till 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Went there last Saturday at 5:30 - after driving 8 miles one way - only to find their hours have changed. They were closed and put up a new sign regarding the hours they are open. Don't know whose fault it is... Yelp's or Ace's for not updating their page here on Yelp but it cost me time and gas and I was chagrined to have to go to Home Depot. I like Ace. Been shopping at many Ace Hardware stores for 40 years. They have a hard time competing with Home Depot and Lowe's but they have items that those 2 big box stores don't have and the people at Ace are knowledgeable and helpful. read more
