Honestly, I contemplated writing this review because I don't know if the person behind the desk was just having a bad day or what, but I haven't been spoken too in a rude tone like this in a long time, especially in such a beautiful pottery place, so I think it's important. I speak up. Because it matters how you speak to people. Pretty much I was having a bad mental health day and I knew that pottery would make me feel better. I found this place while exploring Oceanside, and when I went inside the man behind the desk with the long hair and glasses seemed nice. I told him I was just exploring and he said to let him know if I needed anything. I saw a really cool skateboarding book and when I opened to the front cover, it said "to Nicoletta" which is my best friend's name so I took a picture to send to her - the moment I did that, the guy at the desk snapped on me. He said do not take pictures of the books, why would you take a picture of a book and not buy it. I apologized and was kind of startled with his aggression and said I would delete the photo and he told me to delete it immediately. I said I was just taking a picture of my best friend's name and he said the local artist don't like when you just take pictures of the art and not buy it so to not do it again unless I buy it. Honestly, it made me not want to buy anything because I didn't want the item to be attached to this negative interaction. So i just left. And for some reason, I just started to cry because the interaction made me feel so uncomfortable. I was excited to buy some pottery from someone who makes beautiful pottery. I don't know if he was just having a bad day, but I don't understand why I was spoken too in that tone over a minor incident. I also can't understand why taking a picture of a book would warrant that reaction. I didn't even take a picture of the front cover, just the front page that says a name. I don't know, you can shop here, but I don't think the people are very kind or they take out their bad day on you. read more

Best Pots in town! About 2 months ago...we were waiting to be seated across the way at LTH and since I needed to purchase some small plant pots, I thought I would take the wait time here and support small business. Pleasant experience, nice guy talking about the offerings and other pleasantries. He pointed me to what I was looking for... ended up purchasing other decorative pots along with a cute ceramic CAT pot for a small succulent I already had at home. Both owners were helpful and friendly! The shop is cute and as you walk around there is something cool or unique to discover! The prices were fair and was told some of their pots come from different regions such as Germany where I picked up a nice solid dark purple pot with attached dish tray. What a great addition to Oceanside when it comes to family businesses. The address is wrong on here though as it should be 309 S. Coast Hwy, Oceanside, CA 92054. Came in yesterday as I've been meaning to stop by knowing there would be at least something worth purchasing. I can be picky and don't always buy on the spot but what is not to love here. The abundance of pieces to choose from really made this 1st trip worth it - especially since I haven't traveled to Mexico in 20yrs. Walked in and was immediately greeted by the owners son and his sweet dog. I felt welcomed and right at home as "Tait" occasionally came around to chat about the items his parents acquired for the shop. The abundance of great finds Carrillo pottery offers could honestly make this shop a one stop shop depending from one person to another. And I will add, for those curious and have yet to make the trip, to not assume your only find here will be pots for plants as there is lawn/indoor decor, seating, tables, and even items for your kitchen and bath all wrapped up for a perfect shopping experience. Family business with very personal service - one of the best shopping experiences I've ever had; I bought 58 succulents and 11 incredible pots for under $700! When I arrived, Joseph the owner had no idea how much I was looking to spend... I honestly didn't expect to find so much in one place (after shopping all over North County). Despite not knowing how much I was looking to buy, Joseph had his assistant, Techa, come with me as I shopped for pots. I'm a perfectionist and usually like to shop alone, taking my time, but Techa was very funny and sweet so I enjoyed his help a lot - I never felt like he was waiting around for me. Every time I found a pot that I liked, Techa cleaned it off so I could see it better, then he carried it to the front (Joseph had already told me there was no obligation to purchase anything I'd chosen, in case I changed my mind). This place is huge and has so many pots, so it was very helpful to have them kept together for me, and I never had to lift a single piece of pottery... Contrast that with all the other places I've been to, where I had to load the carts (and sometimes my trunk) myself. In addition to the same pots you'll find everywhere else, they have very unique, handmade pottery from all over the world, and the prices are ridiculous! I don't like a lot of the "standard fare" when it comes to pottery, so I was a very happy shopper... Joseph's dad makes part of their selection, so you can't get these prices just anywhere. The owner is so sour and off putting. We walked in about 30 minutes ago looking for some pots for things we bought at the plant place next door. He didn't even greet us, he just started railing on about the plant business next door selling pottery, he was angry. It was awkward. We found a pot we liked for $20. When we went to pay, he ignored some nice things we said and then said the tax on the $20 pot was $5, which is a lie and a rip off. But my friend wanted the pot and the guy was mean/weird enough that we just paid it and walked out. Honestly, cool pots but the guy was so nasty that we won't be going back. read more

No pressure at all. I roamed around and decided to get one now rather than wait for the next shipment. I was given great information on how much wood or duraflame to use and how to care for it. We visited Carrillo Pottery recently after eating at LTH across the street. The owner, Joey, is wonderful! He gave us a tour of his store and told us all about where his products are made. His prices are reasonable given their quality and scale. We were ready to buy a bunch of items, but we didn't have our SUV handy to bring everything home! Joey sells beautiful concrete outdoor furniture with mosaic tiles, tons of ceramic pots, succulents, paintings, sculptures, and more! While he sells pots of all sizes, I think this is THE spot to buy large scale pots to make outdoor landscape design pop! I can't wait to return! :) read more

I really like this small, family owned shop! Great place to pick up plants and mainly pots for container gardening. Decorative iron accents for the home and potted plants for gifts. I picked up a beautiful succulent arrangement for my Grandma for mothers day that was beautiful, and really affordable! Around $30 for a large arrangement in a terra cotta clay pot. Have been back since then to pick up a few odds and ends for our yard, we always like to stop in after having breakfast at Bobby's in the same parking lot. read more

The owner is such an honest and helpful person! I've always wanted a Mary Garden and after visiting numerous pottery places from Menifee to Carlsbad, my husband and I were led to Carillo Pottery after visiting the Oceanside Mission. I explained to the owner I was searching for a Mother Mary statue that was all white that was at least 3 feet tall. He didn't have any, but promised he would go on a search for us when restocking his inventory and call me if he found what I was looking for. A few days later he called to let me know he had found a statue fitting the description I wanted. He kindly said he would place the statue on hold for us until we could see it in person and even then we wouldn't be under obligation to buy it unless we liked it. He was so sweet in giving us priority over other potential buyers! The moment I saw the statue in person I knew it was meant for our home!!! He helped us load her into the car with the utmost care. We truly feel so blessed to have been led to Carillo Pottery and to this wonderful business owner. The price was so very reasonable, but after we had the statue blessed by our parish priest this statue has really now become priceless to our family and means so much! This past Easter morning we experienced a beautiful sight in our little Mary garden with a beautiful beam of light surrounding this statue. We truly love having her be a focal point in our garden. Carrillo Pottery has a wonderfully large selection of pottery. I've shopped here in the past and have purchased some beautiful items. I will never shop there again though. My son and I went there a bit too late one day and they were closed so we walked next door to look around. I saw a large beautiful pot that I was interested in but didn't purchase at that time. We went back the next day to Carrillo Pottery and I saw a duplicate of a lot I had purchased at Carrillo 6 months back. The price was higher by only $5 but the guy there, owner?, wasn't willing to negotiate. I went back next door and the pot I looked at originally was $16 cheaper and prettier so I purchased it. As I was walking my car up for loading, the guy at Carrillo started yelling at my son and I that we were supporting a dishonest seller. This guy wouldn't shut up. He kept yelling and making rude comments to/ at us not to buy from there and we were dishonest to be supporting his competitor. They are losing their spot in the year due to housing soon to go in, maybe that's why he was upset about losing a sale. He's losing much more than that. There were several more items I was going to go back and purchase after my purchase was put into my car but not after that. He's list my business for good. He's looking for another location but I will never make a purchase from him no matter where he moves to. He only got 1 star from me because to post a review, I had to pick a star rating. read more

This is a really cool place to wander around, if you've had breakfast or lunch over at Bobby's and have some time. Joey Carrillo (owner of Carrillo's Pottery) is the nicest, most laid back guy. He sells pots for planting, yard decorations, some wild sculptures, and tons and tons of succulents. Everything is priced very reasonably. Horrible man runs this place. We visited the plant shop next door, the sweetest man runs it. We bought an outdoor furniture set from him. Not knowing the history of the neighboring business we pulled our car up to load the furniture. The owner of Cabrillo Pottery immediately came out and began to act with hostility toward us and the owners of Plantplay Garden. He told my husband we should have bought the furniture from him and berated the people we were working with. It was horrible and made me very nervous. This man clearly has some beef with the company next door and isn't afraid to verbally attack regardless of witnesses. Stay away from the place. read more

I went into this pottery business yesterday and had the strangest most unpleasant experience because of the man working there. We first asked about his next door neighbor business? Are they only closed on Monday? His angry rude answer was "that's a separate business, I have no idea!" Naturally the answer was hiding some latent problem the man has with competition. So we tried to talk to each other in the parking lot and he was so intrusive I asked him to stop, let us talk amongst ourselves so we could decide if we would like to buy anything. We went inside and located a couple of pots we liked but they were more expensive than all the rest so I asked him why, what makes them so much more? He got animated and rude and he was only able to say "there from Germany." So I asked if I buy 2 could I get a discount? That was it! He lost his composure completely. He said "I could have them for $XX.XX, a price that was more than the listed price. So I pointed that out to him and he went off with a bunch of nonsense. Instead of buying the pots we wanted I told my wife "come on we need to get out of here before this ass looses his mind and does something worse than verbally abusing his customers. We left and bought a beautiful pot at Green Thumb Nursery in San Marcos. They were kind, helpful, respectful and priced better with a much better selection. Never will go to Carillo Pottery again ! Bought 3 pots on April 17th. Decided that 2 of them would not work so I took them back on April 29th to get a refund. A man at Carrillo said could not refund only exchange. There are no signs as you walk in about refund policy or anything about refunds on the receipt. We had a receipt for what we had bought. Ended up the pot I got for the exchange had to pay $10.00 for since it was a little higher than 2 pots I returned , which did not make me very happy. I returned merchandise in excellent condition and had the receipt. They should make it clear about NO Refunds when you buy ! read more
