A tiny but well-curated store. I wasn't going to post, but I've had my plant for over a month now and it is by far, one of the healthiest plants I've ever bought. I came in on a whim, looking for a swiss cheese plant, and the guy working enthusiastically showed me several different sizes. I knew I wanted something small, and he had exactly what I'd hoped to find. There's a lot going on in this little space; every plant I saw was absolutely gorgeous. When I went to pay, he gave me a bunch of tips on how to care for it, and was untangling leaves while he spoke to me. I could tell he loves what he does! Overall, it was a bit pricey, but I do like supporting small businesses and I am pleased with my purchase. I will definitely return. It was OK. Definitely pricier, which drops it down a star for me. There's no ambience, unfortunately, which I guess isn't a dealbreaker, but combined w/the prices was a disappointment for me, esp. since I'd just been in Morro Bay and found places like The Garden Gallery and The Garden Shed in Cambria. This place just had random plants clumped around on shelves and the floor w/some decor randomly thrown in. But the guy is DEFINITELY knowledgeable! read more

Nice small shop. Love the ambience between the water fountain and earthly soil. Very zen. Looking for cast iron plant but ended up with some nice plants instead. On top of that sergio is very knowledgeable with the plants, he really knows his things, from cat/pet safety to proper plant environment. Hes like the doctor of plantology. there is also free teaching lesson for the aftercare of plants. Highly recommended. Definitely be back for more. This is the cutest little plant store in Oceanside. I have only been here twice, but I bought my first plant here last year so this is where I started my crazy plant lady journey at. I meant to come back sooner, but life got in the way. There is a fantastic variety of plants here, and lots of little pottery items to choose from. I wish the inside of my house looked like this store. Plants everywhere! The man who works here is very helpful, and knowledgeable. The store also has an Instagram so you can keep up to date on all the plants they have in stock, and what is going on at the shop. The person who works here just saved me from a street sweeping ticket! I parked up the street, I didn't know it was street sweeping day. I took a while gathering my things, the guy waited a few minutes for me to get out of my car just to tell me about the street sweeper. Moments after moving the street sweeper with the meter made came by. He just saved me a bunch of money! So grateful. read more

My favorite plant store! Whenever I am in Oceanside I always make time to stop and see Mike, Sergio and of course Gina . I own a salon in Downtown San Diego and 90% of my plants that I have are from here, and people are obsessed with them. I appreciate Plant Play above other shops because it's not some overpriced, trendy store that sells basic plants. It reminds me of the South O I grew up in, good people and not just there for 'the gram'. They have quality and unique plants! Mike and Sergio are SO knowledgeable as well. Sort of a cute VERY FUNKY AND CLAUSTROPHOBIC nursery. It is quite small with everything absolutely stuffed into the small space, and winding, crowded pathways weaving through the plants, pots, fountains and statuary. It was so claustrophobic for me I left almost right away, but I could see that there were many nice items if you don't mind the small, crowded spaces. Their pot selection is minimal but as I was leaving I saw that there is a large pottery place next door. Sheesh. read more

Really awesome nursery!! Super unique with sooo much to look at and variety of plants to choose from. I would highly recommend checking this place out. They even have a super cute older chicken running around with plenty of birds u can ask to feed and an occasional squirrel. Lots of beautiful, well cared for, plants. This lovely oasis off of Camino Real provides a wonderful respite from the larger stores (as well as the sun on a scorching day). It is an outdoor botanical market; its maze of myriad plants and flowers impels you to just wind your way through, bobbing and ducking and juking along, taking in all of the different smells and sunlight patterns peeking through the garden canopy. I saw a lot of plants I haven't ever seen; I got lost for a little bit; I now a bunch of plant species new to me. It's worth it even just for a visit to appreciate its tranquility. read more

This is a small, wonderful nursery in Carlsbad. The two gentlemen that work here are super nice and give you a wealth of information about plants. There is also chickens here! Unfortunately I can not recommend this store. I walked in where both employees were maskless and as I started to walk through and I was offered assistance and let him know what I was looking for. AFTER starting a conversation with me, they slowly each put one on and he then offered me a mask. I can not wear one and said that I could not put it on. He told me it was required, even though when I entered neither employee had one on! The hypocrisy of the entire situation was that I left and sat in my car writing this review where I could see that they had both already removed their masks. I will take my business elsewhere and recommend those who ask me to do the same. This is all after a full day of running errands that I was not asked to wear a mask in a single store I entered. read more

Sergio was amazing and went above and beyond helping me and my husband find 3 perfect plants for our living room. He took his time and made sure we understood the instructions for care. If you want to buy a few plants here, then by all means, go for it. It's a quaint setup that makes you feel like you're in the middle of a garden. It's fun to browse around and just relax while you're here. If you want to get design or landscaping services though, steer clear. Sergio has a good eye for design, but his execution and follow-through leaves a lot to be desired. I actually paid him to come out to my place to design my yard for me, and all I got were a couple photos of his sketches (with no measurements) and an estimate with 4 line-items on how much it would cost to implement. All the while they ignored my phone calls and emails and I had to go out back to them in person even to get the work I paid for in the first place. I ended up making my own CAD drawing based on his sketches because what I received from Plant Play would've been rejected outright by the HOA. I'm finalizing the design with another nursery now and the difference in service is night and day. If you need more from a nursery than buying a couple plants, go to a real business that actually understands customer service. read more

My friend and I stopped in to this fabulous plant shop today and were just thrilled with what we found. Not only are the two owners of this wonderful shop absolutely delightful and full of knowledge, they offered to help my friend with her sick plant at home "bring your plant in, that you purchased from another store, and we will try to make it well". Wow! These guys are amazing. Their plant selection is vast and out of the ordinary. Beautiful plants and succulents you just don't see in every shop. My friend spent close to $100, and I will certainly be back when I have more time. They also have a beautiful supply of unusual planters including a nice supply of brightly colored Mexican pottery. If you are looking for an out of the ordinary gift or plant for your home, do not miss this shop. You will not be disappointed. read more

AMAZING SHOP!!! I went in and spent literal hours gushing about plants with the owners, who are absolute gems! Plus, they laughed at my corny plant jokes (I'm not sorry)- bless their hearts, lmao. Every plant I got from there was in exceptional shape, and the prices are literally the best I have seen anywhere - and I try to visit every houseplant shop from LA to SD. I had just been lamenting that there were so few shops with uncommon aroids, hoyas, etc in the area, and I am so so happy to have found one with such pristine plants and interesting cultivars - and most, if not all, are at or below market value which is why this is 1000 times better than shopping online (and I sell online myself, lol!), and more fun. They gave me amazing advice, some of which I knew, and some I did not, which I was super excited about! I like to have as many tricks to try out in my back pocket as I possibly can. :) I appreciate that they didn't see me as a total weirdo for squealing about every cool plant that was seen or mentioned and being as excited as a BTS stan about pretty leaves, lol! I know places like Trader Joe's can have great finds sometimes, but family-owned small businesses like this are the heartbeat of any city and if we must consume in our capitalist nightmare, then I wanna do it at places like this: where plants are truly the passion of the owners and a source of wonder and joy. Where I know they inspect each and every one and ensure it's perfect, and in the perfect substrate. I did not see a single demonic evil fungus gnat skulking about in the many lovely hours I spent there, because each and every plant was watered properly from the bottom, and with great care. Seriously, it made me so happy to see. Usually, I tend to buy plants from big box stores just because they look sad or are super overwatered and I want to save them, but not here. I was just so taken by the perfect foliage in every direction and the genuine love and charm you feel the moment you step inside. You have a lifelong customer, a full-blown sicko plant addict! Ps. This is a really cool nursery. It's cozy. They have chickens! Lots of interesting plants, and a pet chicken named "Phylis Diller" !! She's old and kind of blind and she'll just walk right into you!
