We saw their big sign across the freeway when we were visiting Cal Pacific Orchid Farm, so we decided to take a peek afterwards. This is located off of Piraeus Street that runs along the Northbound 5fwy. We entered Piraeus from Leucadia Boulevard. The commercial entrance came up first, then the regular customer entrance, thanks to their clear signs. It was mid-afternoon on a Thursday in January, so maybe that's why the nursery lot was kind of empty the further we went in. At the front area though, there were poinsettia trees still in bloom. I didn't even know that they can grow into trees (they don't last very long after the holidays in my care, lol), so I was actually fascinated to see them so big. They also had a fenced area with 2 small goats, possibly pygmy goats...so cute and friendly. Considering the cold weather, they had a good selection of healthy cacti, potted flowers and plants at reasonable prices (i.e., 4" pot of succulent $5.99, 6pk annuals/perennials $4.99). The bigger shrubs like hydrangea and hebe coed were more expensive ($26.99 and $28.99, respectively), but beautifully kept. We had no plans to garden any time soon so didn't plan on buying anything, but ended up getting some plant accessories, including a car-shaped ceramic planter that kiddo really liked, lol. Service was okay. We were the only ones there and took our time browsing, but no one asked if we needed help. Family owned nursery in Encinitas. Plants were in good condition. They have fruit trees, succulents, and lots of begonias and other shade flowers in a greenhouse. It's not the largest nursery, but they had some unique plants not found elsewhere, and a good selection. read more

Great place to buy plants and everything you'd need to plant them, people who work here are incredibly friendly and helpful as well. I bought a bunch of small vegetable plants to plant in pots and they told me the type of soil they each need which I would have had no idea on, and the plants have grown a ridiculous amount in only 4-5 weeks, I really can't believe how much they've grown and how healthy they are. I definitely do not have a green thumb but they made it easy for me to think I do. Plus they have the Carolina Reaper pepper if you're into planting spicy peppers. Bottom Line: Gorgeous, super healthy plants but a bit slim on gifty items. Wow, I don't think I've ever seen happier plants! I shop at a fancy garden center on a regular basis that has healthy plants but the selection at Weidner's is unprecedented. It's as if every plant is in the perfect spot getting the perfect amount of sun and water. The gorgeous variety of poinsettias had my jaw on the ground. So pretty! Equally dazzling is the service. What drew me to Weidner's was the hope of finding some nice Christmassy winter gifty items like decor and ornaments. Unfortunately it was slim pickings but I hope to have better luck on my next visit. read more

Weidners' Gardens is one of our "vacation" spots reserved for special occasions, like yesterday, our anniversary. Our commute from LA was a slow one, likely due to the holiday weekend, but that's what you have to put up with to get where you're going! We picked up a couple fuchsia's, a squash and a megacopa,for color. All our plants were reasonably priced ($4-$6) and our clerk was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful! This place is awesome for your fellow nursery goer. They have a wide variety of plants! But they definitely have more outdoor plants than indoor plants! Lots of pretty flowers and trees. My plant of choice is any succulent really so I checked out their section. They have about 15 different succulent to choose from. I ended up choosing this beautiful red pagoda! Upon entering this nursery your eyes captivate the beauty of the flowers glowing in the sun. This is a great nursery with a simple but outstanding selection, great prices, and super friendly staff. It's easy to find this place as it is right off I-5. Private lot for parking. You can grab a little cart to take with you to hold plants while you shop, which is a nice touch. I was able to find a good number of special succulents and aloes here. They have a well-organized and large selection including milkweed for butterflies, special aloe and euphorbia, etc. There are chickens that run around the grounds, which is a nice touch.
