RCP has a few locations around San Diego. The Encinitas location is probably on the smaller side, but it has a pretty good inventory of pavers, decorative rocks, concrete blocks, and other materials. I appreciated that they have samples of pavers already laid out to help you see how it will look all put together. It helped me narrow down my decisions when we were remodeling our backyard, front patio, and driveway. We also used RCP for turf and rocks. I would say they have pretty competitive prices. We went to the Escondido location to pick up one more bag of rocks. They were out but called the Encinitas location and let us know they had them and told them I was one my way from Escondido to pick them up. I also called on the way to let them know I would be arriving at 4:05 and if it was an issue because they were closing that I would pre pay and they could leave the rock outside for all of five min. They refused and literally shut the door on me after driving one hour thru heavy traffic to get there. I wouldn't even give them one star for such horrible customer service. I guess the fact that I had just spent a mint there meant nothing to them just as customer courtesy means nothing to them. read more

i always assumed that this place would be super pricey...so i had never even been here. My sister just redid all 3 fireplaces in her house and purchased some material from home depot...then she came here for the 3rd fireplace and realized that the things she bought were cheaper here! so we are redoing our 2nd, and last, fireplace and loved the stacked stone my sis got for hers...so we came here...there was sooo much selection of stacked stone! all different colors, shades and finishes...wow! and they were all done on a wall so you could see the finished product. the staff is super friendly, knowledgeable and helpful...they were able to show us other matching pieces to accent what we had already selected. heads up though...no returns...so better to buy less than you need than too much...this is not Costco! read more

My first trip to RCP was so amazing I'm trying to figure out if I need anything else just so that I can go back again. I was greeted in the yard right away and kindly sent in the right direction. Update from my previous review from the encinitas location. We received a call from the regional manager Kiko about our bad experience. They talked about what could have been done better and how it was going to get fixed. My husband was very happy with the call since the regional manager took the time to reach out and find out the problem. My husband usually just stops doing business with places after he gets bad service but seems he will be going back. read more

We had an issue with our order due to a 3rd party vendor. The product delivery was delayed by a significant amount of time. Shane and RCP were awesome at resolving the problem. If you have not been here before, it takes a second to learn the buying process. You find someone with a forklift, getting your materials and then writing you a ticket that you take inside and pay. Once I got the attention of a staff member they were extremely helpful and nice. I thought their prices were very reasonable and the staff friendly and knowledgeable. I went in to the office, described to a salesman my needs for stone for my fireplace and was told "You need to go talk to someone in the yard." Ok. So I go out to the yard. Described to a salesman out there my needs for stone for my fireplace, and was told "You need to go talk to someone in the office." Call me old-fashioned, but when I'm made to feel - twice in ten minutes - like taking my money would be an inconvenience, I grant a business' wish by driving off never to return. Avoid this place unless you enjoy being treated like a turd in the punchbowl. read more

We purchased 6 bags of rock from this company twice. The first time was fine. The second time 2 of them had been opened and retied shut. We wondered if they still had the same amount of rock as the unsealed bags but assumed they would not try to cheat us. However once we got home and unloaded the bags, we could tell the resealed bags were significantly lighter. We did not appreciate this. We don't like not getting what we paid for. Why not tell us they had some opened bags with less rocks and give us the option of purchasing them at a discount? They have a scale because they weigh rocks and boulders so it's not like they wouldn't know they had less rock in them. Each bag costs $12 so it was not worth the effort to drive back to Encinitas from Oceanside. I'm not saying they don't have good points but buyer beware. read more

Word of caution...specifically ask about their return policy. Tried to return two unopened cans of Henrys sealer here today. Guess what, not returnable. Yeah our policy doesn't allow the return of liquids. Ok but your written policy on the receipt doesn't say a word about that and I wasn't told that at purchase. This is a great place for your home landscaping needs. I visited yesterday and purchased about 500 lbs of boulders for a wall in my yard that I am making. The price was reasonable and the service was friendly and very helpful. I had help from 4 different people and each one was a joy to deal with. Stay away. I bought some marble white rock from them, and they dumped rock mixed up with sand. When I complained that my yardage was severely reduced by the sand, instead of taking away their crap they offered some bags of marble white to make up for it. Except those bags had even more sand than the crap they dumped on my driveway. So now I have a whole bunch of 'rocks" that I used to put on top of weed block to prevent weeds from growing, only now the weeks are growing on the rock cause there is sand on top of the week block. This is more about the corporate headquarters than this particular location BUT it is a stern warning about their business practices... I hired a contractor that usually used Olsen and other products but there was an RCP product that I wanted. They agreed and proceeded to botch the installation, damage my home (including my brand new garage door, demolishing a stairway to my back yard, etc...). I had withheld payment to them (they even refused a walk through with me). Within 2 weeks of the end of job, I received a make-believe lien notice on my home from RCP through an agency for $6,000. (Make note of that amount.) I wrote RCP offering to pay them direct as I loved their products and strictly had issues with the installer. I only asked that I be given an itemized receipt as I wanted to make sure I only paid for materials on my job. RCP refused. RCP then put a legal lien on my home, for an around $1,800 (so, they were asking for $4,200 more on their scare letter). I since settled with the contractor, supplied my receipt to RCP and a month later STILL NO RELEASE. RCP's operating procedures have cost them more business from me. It is my genuine desire that you will choose the same and go with a firm that will treat you right. In the mean time, I will pursue contacting the Attorney General's office for help - I you have any suggestions, please send them along too. read more

RCP has been around forever and knew of them back when I lived in La Mesa 20 years ago. Now that I'm in North County I went to their store for some blocks to build a wall and some of turf. I was helped by Kiko and Ryan. Their selection was great and loved the colors of the material. They also referred me to some great contractors who I interviewed...all were good. Worse customer service I've ever experienced. As a customer we have been here twice, both times we had to wait for 30-40 minutes before being helped. The first time we told them we wanted pavers and needed to order the prep materials but didn't know what we needed. The sold us gravel and sand. Sounded right to us. When they delivered the gravel looked like much bigger pieces than we expected, we asked if this was right for pavers and driver said yes. Well my husband did the prep and filled with gravel to save money. The contractor came and took one look and said that they sold us the wrong gravel. The sand was ok to use but he commented that they sold us the most expensive stuff. Well we went down there and explained what happened (after waiting 40 minutes) and before hearing us out he quickly said he'd need to check with the rep who sold to us but wasn't working there for another couple days. He treated us like we lied about it and didn't offer any advice or help. Not even apologetic. Now we have to pay someone to dig out expensive gravel that we don't even need and buy the correct materials. WARNING - do not buy from RCP!!! You will be very sorry read more
