The fire pit installed by this company exploded into my girlfriend's face. We had an independent professional company come out to inspect the unit and the gas line. Their findings were shocking: the gas connection was completely loose. This negligence allowed gas to build up inside the fire pit structure, which caused it to explode upon ignition. Because of the physical injuries sustained and the absolute gross negligence regarding a gas installation, we are now taking this company to litigation. If you value the safety of your home and your family, stay far away from this business. A "loose connection" on a gas line is not just a mistake--it is a deadly hazard. We are currently in the process of legal action to hold them accountable for the damage and trauma they have caused. Zero stars. Avoid at all costs.

Solar and pool repair were must haves with summer approaching, and next on the list was getting rid of a decomposing wooden outdoor staircase with ridiculously oversized and hazardous wood block steps. After consulting with Bryan, we immediately felt confident in his approach and began a fun collaboration to update our property. As the project got underway it became apparent that a simple replacement with a different material wasn't sufficient. No, we imagined something grander -- which kept evolving -- and resulted in what can only be described as a work of art on our property where dirt and rotting wood once stood. Bryan's crew -- Benancio and company -- are a world-class team of builders and problem solvers. To this day, my wife and I can't believe our good fortune that we had this crew all to ourselves for the roughly month of time that the grand staircase, hundreds of feet of new pathway, additional patio expansion with a new gate, and front courtyard gazebo garden took for them to complete. We miss them! We won't miss them for too long, though, as we 100% plan on booking Majestic Hardscapes again for ambitious future ideas we dream up here at home around the property. Even though the quote was not the lowest, it was reasonably priced and they were the only contractors that answered a lot of my concerns. I had several quotes from numerous contractors and all; expect Majestic Hardscape, just give me a price. This was concerning to me because we live on a hill and the side of our yard slopes. Every contractor just suggested laying concrete to the way it slopes so water would run off the hill. Bryan was the only one who suggested that this will need further attention, such as a retaining wall in the future otherwise it will just get worse over time. They were able to level the concrete the way we wanted and recommended us to eventually level the rest of the yard in the future. They even went out of their way to take some of our old stacking bricks and used them as a temp retaining wall to aid the sloped yard. I highly recommend Bryan and his team and look forward to working with them again in the future, thanks again Bryan!

Furthermore, the contractor under-reported our $24,331 contract to the City of Imperial Beach on the permit valuation as only $3,786.75 (an 84% discrepancy). We have fulfilled 100% of our financial obligations to close out the contract, but an active investigation has been requested with the California Contractors State License Board (CSLB Complaint #S F 2025016199) regarding their permit reporting and management practices. Proceed with extreme caution.

I had 2 medium-sized fruit trees I needed to transfer from my parent's home in Southeast San Diego to mine in North County. I took pictures and he gave us a very reasonable price. We also decided to also add another service to take out our palm tree. There were a couple of mishaps such as: The day he was scheduled to take out the palm tree, he was a no-show and my husband had to call him an hour after he was supposed to arrive. Then, the day after that incident, was the fruit tree transfer. He and his team forgot to bring their dolly. Thank goodness my Dad had one so they borrowed it, but now we have the burden in taking it back. Despite these mishaps, Noe was very knowledgeable and professional in his mannerisms. The day of the fruit tree transfer, he and his team arrived in a timely manner, was efficient and did a great job overall. We were very pleased and will definitely use him again if we have another project.

Sorry I'll be back in town tomorrow." 08-10-2026 08:18 PM A month later and I have heard nothing. I don't usually chase people to give them my money. So now I will start over, with someone new. I don't know if my job was too small for them, or they are too busy, or they are just incompetent and lack systems and follow up. None of it is an excuse for how I was treated, and the time that was wasted. Evo Turf needs to rename itself to "Never Turf". That would be much more accurate. Hey, "Ev-OH NO! Turf", save the apology, and the request for a phone call to explain things and make it right. You are fired. Get a CRM with a follow up system, make sure the manager is on top of the salespeople. If you can't use a basic CRM, fire everyone and start over. As a matter of fact, the owners should fire themselves. You should not be operating a business. A lemonade stand maybe, a proper business, no. If you want to write me a check for the time I wasted, at my hourly rate, I estimate $1,000 will cover it. You have my address.

I don't want to spend a ton of money so he replaced the adobe bricks with cinder blocks that were the same size and shape and had the texture of adobe. Pablo then painted it. He and his son did a really nice job. They built a frame around the fireplace so the dust would be contained during demo and replacement. It only took 1 day to do the bulk of the work before returning 2 days later to paint it the same matching color. I'm happy with the work they did!

He kept the area clean, cleaned up after himself and has a very pleasant demeanor. I asked him if he knew someone who could build a fence and it turns out he does everything. So now I am waiting on a bid from him to do the fence and eaves. I can tell he's a perfectionist who takes pride in his work and delivers quality results. Ghosting a new customer after committing to a job is disappointing and wasted my time. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this company because reliability and communication are important qualities in any service business.

I first met Blake (the owner of this Company) a little over 20 years ago and had him add a lot of concrete where I used to have a HUGE Redwood deck that just became too wet, soggy and maintenance intensive for me to bother with. I wanted to go Surfing,Kayaking and ride all of my Motorcycles I collected. So I was SO happy with his work I ended up having it all stained as well and today had him add to the backyard area as I am now permanently Disabled and can now use any of my electric wheelchairs or other electric (or otherwise_ mobility devices to go back outside again. S A F E L Y! This time he had the color added IN the Concrete delivery truck to insure a nice even color throughout. We chose a lighter color this time as an accent and love it. As ALWAYS with ANY of the work Blake has done with our home,it ended PERFECTLY...HE is a perfectionist and takes great pride in his work unlike every other contractor I have ever hired to work on this home since 1991 when we bought it. And not becaud=se of any pressure. He simply demands it of himself and refuses to take less than his best effort as an option. Well this sounds like a damned love letter so will stop before the wives get jealous:-) But if you need concrete work, little or BIG job I would never even consider anyone else. Blake did a beautiful job on our concrete and his price was reasonable as well. We put in a winding walkway in the front yard and a meandering walkway and patio in our rear yard. Blake was professional, dependable, punctual, reasonable, honest, and has a great artistic ability. I kept trying to lay out the exact shapes using yarn; he intuitively "got it" and framed out a beautiful walkway and patio that was what I wanted... but even better! He understood what I was describing and brought it into reality. Our design involved a lot of curves - it came out beautifully. He sloped the concrete so the water runs off it perfectly and the finish is beautiful. We ended up removing from the original design a small amount of walkway in the front, and Blake agreeably adjusted the price and made the design change we wished. I would recommend him highly. When you deal with him, you can tell he has years of experience and knows what he is doing, yet he is humble and kind. We recently replaced all existing walks, patios,and driveway plus added new patios, new parking place, and new front entrance walk from the street at my daughter's beautiful home. Blake Carroll and Gold Star Concrete did a wonderful job in every way possible. All the existing walks and patios were redesigned for much better appearance, more space and better drainage, plus the new walk from street to front door (the "grand entrance"). Here was the first place that Blake Carroll amazed me. He is a natural designer and made many key design suggestions and ideas to improving the existing, plus he completely designed the new "grand entrance" with a wonderful spacing out of gradual steps up from street to entrance. We were having an architect design an new house for the property and there is no way the architect could have designed the concrete paving as elegantly as Blake! Then Blake and All Star team formed up, poured, and finished beautifully all the concrete work, all executed right on schedule. We needed old concrete removed, and new, decorative concrete installed in our back yard (and covered patio). We wanted a gas fire pit and a fountain, but weren't sure exactly how to do it (or plan it). Gold Star Concrete (Blake) was one of several contractors who came in and bid ... but we felt the safest with Blake. He seemed very experienced, and also was excited about the plan as we both knew it would be challenging. We spent over a month working with him on the design, and he was very patient with us. We ran into a few challenges during the project, but Blake and his seasoned team helped us work through them. In the end, the work was fantastic, and our backyard looks great! We needed to replace our existing driveway and correct a significant problem with the grading of the area soil. After reading reviews and viewing pictures of their work on the Gold Star website, we contracted with Blake to do the job. Blake and his crew did a fantastic job for us! They removed the large existing driveway, removed and re-graded the soil, installed new retaining walls which matched our other existing walls, and installed an even-larger driveway using the Belgian Slate finish and Sierra Sand color. The results are first-rate and we get many compliments on how nice the driveway looks. During the project, Blake constantly checked-in with us to make sure we were happy with the progress. I found Blake on Home Advisor website and he came highly recommended. Blake responded immediately when i requested to be contacted and he met me right away to discuss my needs. My project required a large haul out of asphalt and a new pour of my driveway. Blake provided a very reasonable quote within a couple of days and he even worked with me on the schedule while i worked out the financials. Blake always arrived on time, performed great work, and always made sure all the little details were performed to my satisfaction. We were referred to Blake with Goldstar Concrete by a friend of mine, who found him Through Service Magic. Although I had complete trust in my friend, the main reason we set the appointment with Blake was his 35+ five star ratings with Service Magic and his A+ rating with the B.B.B. Blake offers free estimates, and because of my work schedule we had to set the appointment for a Saturday morning. Blake was on time, friendly and spent a lot of time with us. He answered all our questions and offered suggestions to help better our project. Blake did over $20,000.00 worth of work for us consisting of a concrete patio, block work ,fencing and a deck he was always punctual, professional and at no time was his honesty or integrity ever in question. When I was looking for someone for my backyard patio slab in Escondido, CA, I talked to several contractors. I chose Blake for several reasons. He wasn't the cheapest (per sq. ft.), but that wasn't what I was concerned about. He had a vision and suggestion of what would look good (better than my vision). After an exhaustive search for a quality Concrete Contractor, and eventually obtaining bids from four, including two General Contractors, Blake clearly stood out as the clear cut choice. While his bid wasn't the lowest, his bid was fair and reasonable..and much better than either of the two GC's that bid. His honest and straight forward approach to the demo and replacing of my pool decking matched my expectations and beat my budget. Further, he and his crew showed up on time every day and cleaned up daily before they left. The job involved about 450 sqft of concrete replacement, plus the addition of a new firepit. Gold Star Concrete is a great company. We got estimates from a few companies and Blake came in the lowest. The other companies told us that they couldn't beat his price. We're sure glad we went with Gold Star. Blake and his crew are professional, on time and friendly. They did a beautiful job on our concrete patio slab, concreted the side of our house and built an 85 foot block retaining wall. The total concrete was 27 yards and it looks amazing. The diamond cuts are perfect. They also rebuilt our single gate into a double gate. Painted it to match our house, its a perfect match. We hired Blake owner of Goldstarconcrete to rip up our old asphalt driveway and pour a new concrete driveway. Blake was a pleasure to work with, he was very professional and had creative ideas for our new driveway design. The project took three days to complete, which is what Blake estimated. His crew was hard working and they cleaned up everyday after work. We are very happy with our new driveway, it's clean looking and Blake designed a very appealing pattern for us. We are redoing our backyard, and I went through at least a dozen estimates before landing on Blake and his team to pour our new custom patio for us. They were responsive, respectful, timely, and completely knew their business! I can't tell you how many contractors came and tried to tell me what they thought I should do rather than listening to what we actually wanted. Blake listened and delivered! He made suggestions that improved the finished product for us and was so personable. Gold Star was always immediate in their responses and super easy to work with and totally dependable. Blake and his crew did some of the best work I have seen and at a fair price. Most contractors will try to give you a high bid and then tell you they are the best. Blake gives you a good, fair price and does better work. He is VERY HONEST and gets the job done when he says he will. I started with just a back patio and after seeing his work I will be using him for the side of my house and any other cement jobs that I have. He has very good ideas of what would look good if you don't know what exactly you are looking for. I would recomend him 100%. I will not be using any other contractor but Blake. read more

Gold Star Concrete removed and replaced my existing patio. They were helpful, responsive, and timely. The job couldn't have gone better; the patio looks great! They replaced a worn and outdated patio with a beautiful sleek design with belgium slate texture finish. This was a huge upgrade for our backyard. They even rerouted my sprinkler system around the new patio and fixed a section of stucco against my house! The crew went above and beyond. I had taken out an old patio which had been in place for 25 years. It was a DIY job and it was time. However, this time I wanted to find someone that knew what they were doing. Not knowing anyone I looked around and eventually settled with Blake and Gold Star. I could not have been happier. An outstanding price with and equally outstanding job. Blake showed up for a consultation, gave us a bid two days later. Martine and he were exceptionally punctual when starting the work on our front sidewalk. Blake stayed on the job or returned shortly if he had to get supplies. He is very professional and displays a sound work ethic. Gold Star was awesome. I had three bids for replacing my cracked and lifting driveway, and Blake's was significantly lower than the other two. He came to my home and explained everything clearly. He answered all of our questions. They cleared all the old driveway away, found what raised my drive and removed the problem. The driveway was poured and stamped. It looks great! We just had Blake and his guys do our entire porch and new walkways and could not be happier with the final outcome. First I'd like to say he and his team showed up when they said they would and kept us in the loop when things didn't go as planned due to the rain. I can honestly say this was the best experience I've ever had with a home improvement contractor. From start to finish, Mike Stratton and his team were outstanding. Mike is friendly, responsive, knowledgeable, and clearly takes pride in his work. He was flexible throughout the project as I made a few design changes along the way, and he was always willing to discuss options and offer thoughtful recommendations. What really impressed me was that many of Mike's best ideas didn't increase the cost of the project. He suggested installing a sleeve under the new driveway so I could easily run irrigation or electrical lines to the other side in the future, something I hadn't even thought about before he mentioned it and will almost certainly make use of. He also recommended embedding a drainage pipe beneath one area of the concrete so that, if drainage ever became an issue, it would already be in place and could easily be tied into. He also recommended removing the old porch step to create a seamless, modern transition to the front entry. As we discussed different layout ideas, including curves versus straight runs, he made it clear that the cost would be the same regardless of which design I chose, allowing me to focus on what looked best rather than what cost more. The workmanship was exceptional. The crew was professional, friendly, and obviously very experienced. You could tell these are craftsmen who have been doing this for a long time. They worked efficiently, never seemed rushed, and paid attention to the details. Mike stopped by every day, often multiple times, to check on progress, answer questions, and make sure everything met his standards. The project stayed on schedule from beginning to end, with each phase flowing smoothly into the next. They also went above and beyond at the finish by repairing stucco that had been disturbed during construction, rehanging my gate, and even patching some older stucco adjacent to the project that wasn't really part of the job. The finished driveway and walkways look fantastic and have completely transformed the curb appeal of our home. Just as importantly, the work looks incredibly solid. Even the walkways were built with the same attention to durability as the driveway. Nothing about the project felt like corners were being cut. The price was also very fair. In fact, another contractor I'm working with on a separate project, someone who frequently works alongside concrete companies, told me that the price I paid was very reasonable for the scope of work being performed. I recommend Mendenhall Concrete without hesitation. When I'm ready to tackle the backyard, they'll be my first call.

The main issue was that we would agree on a scope of work and price, but after the job started, he would later complain about the price or try to change the terms. On one project, he initially offered a discount if I paid cash, but about a week later said he could no longer honor that arrangement. I agreed to pay the full amount because he is also my neighbor across the street and I wanted to keep things friendly. I also asked him to repair damaged stucco under my patio doors, and he agreed to include that work. While I was traveling, he sent me a bill for the full amount, and I paid assuming the agreed work had been completed. When I returned, I found that the stucco repair had not been done. I asked him again to fix it. He sent a long message complaining about the price and scope of the work, apologized, and said he would fix it -- but he never did. After dealing with repeated complaints, uncertainty around agreed pricing, and unfinished promised work, I gave up. I would not hire him again. In my opinion, there was too much inconsistency and stress for work that should have been handled clearly and professionally.

However, there was an issue with our side gate that the contractor stated he would return to fix after I had already paid in full. Due to safety concerns for my children, it was important for us to have the gate repaired promptly so it could close and lock properly. While communication was initially good, it eventually stopped and there was no response to calls or texts. I escalated the issue through Thumbtack, and shortly after, the contractor reached out and resolved the gate issue. The concrete and artificial grass work itself was well done, but the lack of communication regarding the gate repair was disappointing and ultimately led me to update my review.

His company had reasonable pricing and lots of great options. He does the work himself on site with his staff which is awesome. They were very thorough in their exceptional craftsmanship. They power washed the driveway and then proceeded to grind off the old paint. Afterwards the vacuumed the dust on day 1. Then they primed the concrete, painted it on day 2/3 and sealed it on day 4. The high quality textured paint helped prevent slipping when walking it wet. It's built to last decades. Don gave me daily updates and he was very reliable. Great communication! It was a seamless and successful project. It exceeded our expectations. I highly recommend this company to paint or repair your driveways or any concrete surfaces.
